About this house rental
Come enjoy our little piece of paradise, about two miles outside the NE gate of Yellowstone and nestled between the idyllic mountain towns of Cooke City and Silver Gate, Montana. The front of the property offers great opportunities for spotting bighorn sheep and mountain goats on Mount Republic, and the back runs into the cool trout waters of Soda Butte Creek. Our mountain home is a perfect escape from the crowds, while also serving as a convenient base camp for animal watching, fishing nearby blue ribbon waters, hiking, horseback riding and much more.
The house features 3 bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms:
- Ground floor master bedroom with en suite bathroom (king bed)
- Second floor bunk room (two bunk beds; four twin beds total)
- Second floor bedroom (queen bed)
- Comfortable memory-foam full mattress in the living room pullout couch
We live in an apartment above the detached garage, so we will be near enough to answer any questions and offer assistance whenever you need it, but far enough away to respect your privacy. We have managed vacation rental cabins on the Bighorn River in southeastern Montana for over a decade, and bought this property and renovated the main house in 2017.

This house and setting was amazing!! It was very clean and had everything we needed. The only complaint I have is that I never saw a bear!!!😀. Anna, Joda, Luke and Ben (our host family) were so friendly and helpful! I would highly recommend this mountain house on Soda Creek!

Beauty and wildlife all around. Saw moose 12 feet from picture window, deer in yard and bears crossing creek behind house!
Home is fully stocked with many extras from kichen to games and movies.
I would rent here again and again!

The location is magical. The Silver Gate / Cooke City valley is just a special place, must be experienced to appreciate. The house is on the Soda Butte, which is a quintessential small Montana trout stream. The deck is a couple of feet from the stream and is great. We fished, and caught fish, right in front of the house all week. The pictures in VRBO are spot on, we saw Bison, Moose, and deer in the yard over the week. The Park is a couple of minutes away. And for us, the Lamar Valley and the three rivers, Lamar, Slough, and Soda Butte make this our favorite part of the Park.
The house is very large and comfortable, in the Montana lodge style. The master bedroom is super.
Anna and Joda, and their boys were great. Very helpful. Had great advice about how to enjoy the area. The hike to the Woody Creek Falls was amazing. Any little issues were dealt with very efficiently.
We can not recommend the Mountain View House highly enough. Particularly if you have younger folks in the party, The Mountain View House is perfect, and you will be glad you stayed there - I know we are, and we'll be back.

The setting is beautiful! The creek in the back yard and mountains on both sides. The house has nice big windows to see out and watch for wildlife.
We could not have ask for better hosts. Anna , Joda and their boys felt like family right away. They gave great advice on the area. The house is nice and big.
Thanks so much for our wonderful time at your home!

We loved everything about our stay. Beautiful home, great hosts and the location can’t be beat! We have already booked for next year and can’t wait to go back. Woo hoo!

Nestled between two mountains, Republic and Mineral, along the bank of the Soda Butte Creek, this is a refuge worthy of the commute into the park, if that’s where you’re headed, or if you are just escaping to the area around Cooke City and Silver Gate. Yes, you can stay with the crowds in West Yellowstone or Gardiner and have easier access, although that depends on road construction and tourist traffic. Or, you can commute across the Lamar Valley and decompress from the traffic as you put your car in park because of a bison jam and watch the prong horn, bison, and perhaps some wolves up in the tree line as evening falls upon the American Serengeti.
Staying at Moose Meadow was an experience that will never fade into memory. As we sat in the great room we watched bison, elk, and squirrels. Morning coffee was punctuated by visits from a black bear in the meadow and a red fox scampering across the wooden walkway. The cabin is comfortable and the hosts are friends you haven’t yet met — maintaining the perfect balance between privacy and being accessible to provide advice and assistance when needed. It was the perfect spot to visit the park and surrounding area and comes with your own little pocket of trout water if you are searching for tight lines.
This retreat is the perfect blend of being away from it all while providing access to the northern gate of Yellowstone and the surrounding area.

This home and location is fabulous. Perfect spot for us and our two young boys. My 11 year old son was in awe fishing in the creek in the back yard. Anna and family were great and so helpful! Would go back anytime!

If you are reading this and deciding between places to stay. Let me tell from experience this is the one you want. The location, the house, the wildlife you will encounter. The owners went above and beyond making us feel welcomed. Everyone in our group had a great time. This house left us recharged and will look to returning again in the future. Thank you for letting us stay on your property we had a blast.

Can't say enough about this beautiful house with property on a pristine trout stream and it's gracious owners. The house is spacious, clean, and nicely updated. The surrounding property has a deck overlooking the stream on which we enjoyed our morning coffee and meals. A short walk through the woods takes us to the firepit and "beach" on the stream that we used to relax, fish, and cool off in the water. It's a 5 minute drive to Yellowstone or historic Cooke City. An unforgettable family vacation!

The best
One of our best vacations! We had postponed this trip for two years running because of the pandemic, but it was well worth the wait. We enjoyed getting to know Anna and her family during our stay; they were caring and responsive hosts. The property is magical, with the Soda Butte on one side and 'moose meadow' on the other; private, yet only 5 minutes to town. We visited just after the floods, but were still able to hike into Yellowstone and there is also plenty to do and see in the Silver Gate / Cooke City area. We are already planning our return visit.

Our stay was absolutely incredible! The hosts were so kind and helpful and responsive. The house is great and the location is perfect for a mountain vacation very close to Yellowstone. There are great hikes close to the house that you don’t have to drive to…we enjoyed a beautiful waterfall right down the road from the house! Also we had several animal sighting on the property which was so special! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

My wife and I and our 7 kids stayed at this amazing cabin for 5 nights. We couldn't have found a better cabin for our needs. There was plenty of room in the cabin for all 9 of us. We were isolated from the touristy traffic. We had a beautiful stream and scenery from every vantage point and saw abundant wildlife from the cabin without having to even enter Yellowstone. (We saw moose, deer, buffalo, and otters from the cabin).
As we prefer to stay away from crowds, staying near the northeast entrance of Yellowstone was ideal for us. It's not only less crowded, but prettier and more abundant wildlife. It made for a long trek to hit the more popular Yellowstone landmarks, but it was worth it to not be caught up in the crowds on a daily basis.
The owners of the cabin are a wonderful family that were very helpful and accommodating. It was a delight to talk with them occasionally.
We typically don't go back to the same places for vacations as there are so many places to see. But our entire family agreed that we'd love to come back to this cabin some day!

Our trip was originally planned for June 2020 but we were able to reschedule for June 2021. Communicating with Anna was always easy and she responded promptly to all my questions. Anna and her family were extremely friendly and gracious hosts, providing a detailed video prior to our arrival so we could be prepared and some great suggestions for fishing and hiking. My husband caught several cutthroat trout in the creek right behind the cabin. The property is beautiful with views of the mountains from all sides and the Soda Butte Creek in the backyard. We spent every afternoon and evening on the spacious deck enjoying the scenery. We saw moose early in the morning and a Blacktail deer walked right up to us while sitting on the deck! The cabin is just a short drive to the Northeast entrance of Yellowstone but secluded enough to offer a peaceful retreat after a long day in the park. We had 5 adults and 2 children and the cabin offered plenty of space. The master bedroom has gorgeous views of the creek and mountains - the best view to wake up to each morning! The living room had plenty of windows to offer beautiful views of another mountain and it was a great space for gathering. We especially loved the DVD selection! The kitchen was well equipped with everything we needed to make meals and we really appreciated Anna's suggestion to stock up on groceries before getting to Silver Gate. The local general stores were great to pick up a few things we forgot but there was not a huge selection for groceries. Our week at Moose Meadow was absolutely perfect and we will definitely be planning another trip soon!

All nine of us loved this property, from my eight-year-old niece to my 74-year-old father-in-law. It is a beautiful place with a very sweet family on property and super convenient access to the north east entrance of Yellowstone. Our family loved the easy access to Lamar valley and all the animals and fishing.
For me it was like going back in time with modern day conveniences. The cabin has a lot of charm and is true to it’s rustic environment.
If Yellowstone is in our future again we will definitely try to book this house again.
My only advice for future renters is to not plan oven meals for large families because it is small. However using the grill and the stove top for our meals worked great.

This was a very beautiful property. The family who owns the property, and stays there, is wonderful! So kind! They are there for any need that may arise, but are very respectful as they leave you alone to enjoy the time and property. As we pulled up there was a buffalo sitting out front to greet us! We saw a lot of wildlife (elk, deer, a baby fawn, buffalo) and there are plenty of things to do around the area. Our teens loved it. Close to the house is a short hike to a beautiful waterfall, which was a favorite for us! The Super 8 in town rents outdoor vehicles for trail rides; we rode up the Daisy trail and played in the snow in July. You need to do your grocery shopping before you get to town, as options are very limited. The small store did have more than we expected though so refilling our cookies and snacks was easy in town. Buy the small cooking essentials such as spices, as there are not any in the house. They have plenty of everything else you would need for cooking though. I would also suggest to set up Wifi calling on your phones before you get there as our phones did not get service (Verizon or AT&T). We enjoyed our time so much we will be returning next summer for 2 weeks instead of one! A huge thank you to the hosting Wolfe family!

Awesome - Living in the Woods
My husband and I with 2 adult children spent 5 glorious days in this spacious, family friendly property. Right on the river with huge deck that was perfect for dining and relaxing to the sounds of the rushing water! Wonderful open windows spanning woods and water. Spacious living area where we enjoyed sitting by the fire after active days of hiking. Great master suite with sitting area overlooking the river. We loved our stay and plan an even longer stay nx yr with the grandchildren.
Wildlife on property: both deer and moose. Abundance of large sunny windows were perfect for sighting these lovely creatures.
We are returning next year and bringing the grandchildren so they can enjoy the terrific trails close by as well as the homey accommodations!

The house was in a beautiful setting. To hear the rushing water of the Soda Butte Creek was wonderful. A big buffalo made his way to the property during our stay. We chose this location because of ease to the Lamar Valley and fishing rivers and creeks! Easy in and out of Yellowstone. Anna and her family were wonderful hosts. Thank you.

Perfect Wilderness Stay
You will absolutely see wildlife at this cabin. Elk, bison, deer, moose, bear, chipmunks, squirrels, and numerous birds, all from right there at the cabin. I had planned four days of exploring Yellowstone but after being at the cabin for about an hour, decided to spend most of the time in the cabin and only two days in the park. The back porch overlooking the Soda Butte Creek is the perfect way to have your morning coffee. Joda and Anna are there to give you all the best ‘local’ info on restaurants and secret waterfall hikes but are absolutely not in the way of your private mountain retreat. The best place to stay near the park.

Mountain Retreat
Our family of 7 absolutely loved our stay at Moose Meadow Ranch!! It was more than enough space for our large family = two bedrooms upstairs with a queen bed and two bunk beds plus a full bath for the kids and a master suite with a sitting nook that faces the creek. So perfect! (We even had friends stay with us for a couple of nights (pull out couch in living room!!)) The property has been beautifully remodeled with all expected amenities without losing any of it's cabin charm!! It is an absolute gem nestled in between the creek and Mount Republic with breathtaking views. The owners are right next door and a wealth of knowledge!! They supplied everything we needed & more! A great family we regret not having more time to get to know!
The location couldn't be better. Just minutes away from the NE gate of Yellowstone, we were able to explore Yellowstone, Grand Teton, Gardiner and more, all while staying in one spot for the week. We thoroughly enjoyed Cooke City as well as Silver Gate. Both offer impressive dining options for such small towns and the people are exceptionally kind. Our family will not soon forget our wonderful week here and we HIGHLY recommend this extraordinary retreat!

WOW!!!!
Gorgeous setting. Pictures aren't enough to tell the story. We used this as a base camp for visiting Yellowstone Park. It's not a place that you want to get up and leave early in the morning and get back late. It's a place you want to sit in the bay window of the master bedroom drinking tea and enjoying nature and the gushing creek.
Yes we had buffalo and deer around the house. Upon arrival they gave us two canisters of bear spray. Didn't encounter any bears. :-)
Get groceries for the week when you are in Cody. Not much in Silver Lake-Cooke City.

Mountains, a creek as clear as glass and wildlife in the pines. Wish I was still there.
The property owners were responsive and so nice. The house was lovely and the beauty of the area was incredible. You can relax with your morning coffee on the deck and watch moose crossing the creek. It was a very short drive to the NE Yellowstone entrance. From there you can drive through the Lamar Valley and see thousands of bison on your way to the rest of the park. I highly recommend this property!
