About this apartment rental
Make your Tucson visit memorable with a stay in a very unique travel accommodation that only recently became available for vacationers. The Ranch House is one of three guest homes situated on the former estate of playwright Clifford Goldsmith in the historic Casas Adobes area of Tucson. Goldsmith’s work includes Broadway, Hollywood and television, but he is best known for “The Aldrich Family” radio show. Built by noted architect Arthur T. Brown in 1947, this private estate was once called home by some other interesting people. Past residents include: Oscar-winning actor Lee Marvin, movie producer Larry G. Spangler, Kansas City Ford Executive Rudy Fick (the auto dealer mentioned in the FBI’s notorious 1950 UFO memo) and newspaper publisher Carl Winter.
Like other ranches and citrus groves in the historic Casas Adobes area, development gobbled up most of the surrounding land over the years and what remains today is a tranquil 8 acre knoll covered with natural desert vegetation and abundant wildlife. The entire property, which you are welcome to roam, consists of this guest house, a main house (occupied by a nonprofit foundation) and two other guest homes. (Please see VRBO #725631 for the one-bedroom Bunkhouse and VRBO# 767200 for the two-bedroom Tennis House.)
The property entrance is off the main road, but all buildings are set back over 600-1000 feet and hidden from view. It feels amazingly peaceful and secluded here, but in reality you’ll only be about a mile or so from major shopping, dining and travel destinations, such as historic Casas Adobes Plaza, the Foothills Mall, Tohono Chul Park and NW Medical Center.
Private resort-style amenities on the grounds are exclusively for the use of our guests and include a tennis court, two pickleball courts, basketball, shuffleboard and a huge swimming pool (unheated) with views of the Catalina Mountains and city lights of the foothills and downtown Tucson. Sunset vistas over the Tucson Mountains are equally spectacular from here. Outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy nearby hiking, golfing, horseback riding, and a network of paved bike routes throughout the area that can be accessed right from the end of our driveway!
The Ranch House is named for its romantic, western charm. It has an open, interior floor plan of approximately 950 square feet with a living room area with TV, sleeping area with a king-sized, gel-infused memory foam bed, dining area that comfortably seats four, kitchen with a breakfast counter and washer/dryer, bathroom with a walk-in shower, and ample closet space. Almost barn-like in openness, the Ranch House has a vaulted ceiling with wood beams, two rustic ceiling fans, acid-etched concrete floors, and windows that offer a variety of beautiful views, including the surrounding desert landscape, courtyard fountain and Catalina Mountains. There is also a private patio off of the bedroom area with amazing desert and mountain views! It is very common to see (safely) coyotes, bobcats and javelina parade past your windows as this guest house is near a natural riparian habitat and wildlife corridor.
The Ranch House is beautifully decorated and appointed with all you need for either a short or long-term stay, including a/c, WiFi, basic cable, all linens & towels, dishes, cookware & utensils, cutlery, silverware & glassware, iron & ironing board, and a variety of board games, books and DVDs for your use (many with local or western interest).
The Ranch House is ideal for up to two persons interested in Tucson's history and looking for a unique, high-quality, secluded travel accommodation. We love this place and think you will, too! Please feel free to contact us with any questions.

This is a special property. As others have mentioned, it feels like you're in the middle of the Sonoran desert but restaurants and shopping are only minutes away. The ranch house is clean, comfortable and well equipped. All the amenities are top notch. Jeanmarie and Kelly are great hosts. We'll be back!

Our fourth consecutive stay and it was perfect in every way. It's a unique property and you won't find another like it. Amazingly clean, wonderful desert grounds. great evening view of the Catalina Mountains, Saguaros, quail, near restaurants and shopping, and close to all the great attractions of Tucson and Southwestern Arizona. Don't miss it!

Stayed here 1week last year and came back for a 4-week stay this year! Jeanmarie & Kelly are welcoming, friendly and helpful hosts. Accommodations are extremely clean and very comfortable. All-inclusive amenities are thoughtfully provided and more than adequate. House & property are a peaceful “oasis” yet within minutes of all Tucson area offers. Would not hesitate at all to make a return visit here. Thank you Jeanmarie & Kelly for doing all you do to make this a very special place:)

a real gem on 8 acres in the middle of the developedpart of Tucson. 360 degree view of the horizon was awesome. Loved the pickleball court. Another renter came out and joines us. The deck and pool area felt luxurious. Three coyotes came trotting by the window one morning. We are already booked for next year.

This is an amazing place to stay. Surrounded by nature and wildlife--and all the amenities we might want--we loved our stay at the Ranch House.
There are windows on all sides, and the place is on-point with decor. The open floor plan is spacious and there is all the closet space you would want--there's a place for everything, so it's easy to keep it neat and tidy. We will most definitely stay here again if it is available.

Jeanmarie and Kelly were the perfect hosts . This was the cleanest vrbo we’ve ever stayed in and they supplied so many extras to make our stay comfortable . We can’t wait to return !

The ranch house is perfect for two people with a beautiful sunset view of the Catalinas. Lovely decor inside and windows to look out on the desert. Convenient to groceries, restaurants, and a wonderful botanical garden, Tohono Chul.
Great hosts!

This simple private and well equipped suite was atop a small rise on a large multi acre desert property and had wonderful views of the Catalina mountains. We felt felt like we had our own desert garden on this huge property. The host was very responsive and clearly committed to running a first class operation as every little detail was thoughtfully taken care of. We were lucky enough to get the rental due to a last minute cancelation and will book for next year for a couple of weeks well in advance.

Fabulous place to stay!
This place is amazing! Everything was so clean it was like we were the first guests to ever stay there! All amenities were like new. We enjoyed watching the wildlife from our patio and we took advantage of the Pickleball Court. This location is perfect for visiting Saguara NP West and dining in the Presidio. Would definitely stay here again. Thank you Jeanmarie!

Two weeks in Tucson
My wife and I were looking for a spot for a two week stay in Tucson. This is a great space. Very quiet. Good views and a great
location.
Just a few miles from several major attractions. If you are a bicycle rider this property is not far from the loop.
We can highly recommend.

The perfect VRBO
This VRBO rental was one of our best experiences. The owners have thought of all the details that make a difference - extra towels, tissues, soaps, teas, & a very clean accommodation.

Amazing place
Super place to stay! Kitchen is well supplied. A Weber grill is available for grilling🙂. Seating and bed were both very comfortable. The property is amazing! You feel like you are in middle of the saguaro 🌵 desert! Great patio to sit and enjoy a cup of coffee in the morning with views of the mountains. We enjoyed a few shuffleboard games. We were wowed by both spectacular sunrises and sunsets. Our host was most welcoming, checking to see if we needed anything during the week. It’s in an amazing location to make outings easy to get to. Can’t say enough good about the whole experience! Thank you, Jeanmarie!

Exceeded our expectations
We recently had the privilege of staying in the ranch house for a week. This house is well stocked, we did not want for anything. The bed was super comfortable, we had all the hot water we needed, Wi-Fi was spot on, the scenery was breath taking. This house is secluded yet minutes from everything. We have friends that live in Tucson (1 less than a mile away) that never knew this little spot in paradise existed.
The owners were very easy to work with. My husband said he could easily stay here for a month.
We will most definitely be back..

Highly Recommend!
Our stay in the Ranch House was excellent - it’s super-cleanliness, its easy driving access to hiking and groceries, (other shopping options too), seeing the sunset from one end of the Ranch House, sunrise from the other, and its privacy made it a perfect stay for us. We like the option of “eating in” and the kitchen amenities made it easy. Jeanmarie & Kelly are gracious and generous hosts. It was our sincere pleasure to be their guests. The 8 acre property has multiple lodging options with good reviews and we are interested in experiencing those sometime as well.

Delightful studio with gorgeous views!
This property is now my new favorite go to in Tucson. Not only is it well appointed with all the amenities, the views of the mountains are spectacular. You're surrounded by lush desert with all the cactus variety renowned in the Sonoran Desert... and if you watch long enough, you'll see lots of fun desert critters!

Just right
Everything about this stay was just right. The property had the perfect balance of being a quiet escape/home base and also proximately located to everything we wanted to do (great outdoor destinations, grocery store, restaurants, access to the highway, etc.). Every morning included a cup of tea on the patio overlooking the desert and enjoying the chorus of birds singing.
The space also had everything we needed in the kitchen for the occasional meal we prepared, lovely towels and linens, and an especially comfortable bed! Jeanmarie was a great host and truly interested in making our stay comfortable.

This is a wonderful, quiet rental. Within two miles of Whole Foods, Starbucks and a wonderful botanical garden. We have stayed here twice and love it. The desert views, sunrises and sunsets are incredible!

What an experience!
Property exceeded expectations. Beautiful setting, conveniently located, pictures were accurate but did not reflect the positive ambience and efficient use of space. Unbelievable mix of desert surroundings in the middle of a city. Property was excellently equipped. Wanted for nothing. Highest recommendation.

Spectacular home away from home
Highly recommend this property from the surrounding area, the grounds, pool, amenities, beautiful decor, stocked with nothing left to chance & very comfortable bed. One of the best!

Week in Tucson
Kelly and Jeanmarie were really easy to communicate with, incredibly responsive and accommodating when arrival times went slightly awry (generally and genuinely, very nice people). The space itself is lovely. Really spacious and absolutely spotless. It’s incredibly well appointed, simple things I forgot to even consider or look for in the photos: washer/dryer; something to make coffee in; something to float on in the pool; actually start a bbq, etc., all there (don’t even worry about it). It felt selfish to have a pool, tennis, basketball court and run of the property to ourselves, but it was great! Particularly like the nature strip (there is probably a better description for it) that runs through the back of the property. My wife had to work during some of our trip and would watch coyotes and quails walk by early morning (doubly exciting if you are foreign and assume at first coyotes are neighbourhood dogs…). The property is very close to suburbia, and useful things like supermarkets (wholefoods) but equally convenient as a base to get to hikes in the area (which I spent my time doing) in the Saguaro National Parks and Sabino Canyon. Great place. Book it.

Foothills Ranch House Stay (2/23/20-3/2/20)
Our stay at the Ranch House was an absolute joy. Jeanmarie and Kelley were the perfect hosts and met all our needs (and then some). The property is beautiful and serene even though you are in an urban area, close to many amenities. We rate our stay as a "double thumbs up"!

a lovely place in the Oro Valley
we came for a 10 day bike/ hike holiday over Christmas 2019, and while the weather didn't entirely cooperate, the property was lovely, private, spacious, clean, comfortable, with terrific tennis courts and shuffleboard (both of which we played multiple times) and a great desert property to wander around. JeanMarie was terrific and accomodating. the property was not inexpensive, but we got what we paid for, and it's close to many restaurants and shopping etc all of which we took advantage of. Strongly recommended!

Love this place!
This is the second time that we have stayed at this house and it doesn't get any better than this! The house is perfect for two and it has more than you need for a great vacation. We played tennis, basketball, pickle ball and shuffleboard! This time, we had warm weather to enjoy the pool and it was a delight. This home is close to everything and easy to travel about to see the sights. Jeanmarie and Kelly couldn't have been more accommodating.

The Ranch House is a very relaxing oasis.
The Ranch House and all of Oracle Heights Estate is a very relaxing spot. The property is immaculate and nicely furnished. The location provided easy access to all the attractions of Tucson. Restaurants and grocery store are within a mile.We would definitely stay there again.

Relaxing, active and beautiful
This location and setting suited our purposes perfectly. We wanted an active vacation with the ability to unwind in a beautiful setting, and the ranch house certainly filled the bill. It has a beautiful view of the mountains, an interesting yard with cacti and the occasional coyote passing through, great tennis and pickle ball court, a pool, and space to either soak up the sun or find some shade to read. Amenities are close by car. We loved the loop trail and golf courses of Tucson.
Jean Marie was very responsive to our questions. The unit was very clean and functional. All in all a wonderful experience and we would highly recommend this property.

Perfect in all ways
We stayed at the Ranch House in 02/18 visiting from New Jersey. The house really is perfect in all ways. The décor is beautiful, the kitchen is well appointed with everything that you could need for your stay, the bed is tremendously comfortable , the views are awesome. The home is spotlessly clean. Better than any hotel that we've stayed in. It is private and serene yet right near everything you could want. We found great restaurants right around the corner as well as downtown. Jean Marie and Kelly couldn't have been more accommodating. We cant wait to return!

Beautiful casita with gorgeous patios, great (unexpected) location!
Hidden away near TohonoChul, quiet and secluded, this spot offers a newly renovated large casita. Very private and roomy with new appliances too. Dual patio seating provides views of sunsets AND the Catalina Mtns! Small kitchen and bath (wonderful shower) encourage quick breakfasts or drop into any of 3 (yes, 3) exemplary breakfast spots within a 7 minute drive. A big plus is getting quickly to Hwy. 10; no more l-o-n-g drives on Oracle Road. Also, the WiFi is wicked fast and streaming is a breeze.
Jeanmarie and Kelly manage to be caring, available and unobtrusive at the same time. We enjoyed being met when we arrived with a nice chat and felt very at ease with the electronics etc.
We will certainly be back next year!
