About this chalet rental
Nestled in a cathedral of Old Growth Redwoods on 72 acres in the Santa Cruz Mountains, this Treehouse is one of a kind, for the quiet, nature loving adventurers. Lofty ceilings and solar string lights. oak spiral staircase leads you to your "nest", a queen sized bed with fresh linens and pillows provided. Down stairs is a tiny porch with bistro dining set for sipping wine from a local winery as you gaze out at the moonlit pond and meadow, the dappled light in the trees.
Also a comfy sofa in the family room down stairs, a library of old, collected books arranged upon various shelves. 300 square feet.. close to several hiking trails.
Wildlife spottings have included deer, red tail hawk, owls (heard at night especially), cute little blue belly lizards, turkey and wild peacocks, among many other more shy animals such as fox, turtles, koi,, and rarely (if we're lucky) bobcat.
Close to everything Silicon Valley and Santa Cruz have to offer: beautiful restaurants, live music, wine tasting, craft breweries, hiking and state parks (Big Basin and Henry Cowell) for amazing hiking and events. San Francisco, Monterey is one easy hour drive north and south.
Vintage Clawfoot Bathtub/ Shower under a canopy of redwood branches and bay laurel, maple trees give a new meaning to "hot tub". Instant and abundant hot SPRING water..... This was such a great little place! Very cozy and unique. Only issue was the heat- it wasn’t insulated and it got pretty warm. But nothing that fan they provided couldn’t handle. My fiance and I really enjoyed and made use if the the outdoor shower and tub! All in all a REALLY cool space and place to stay! Unique experience!!

A huge thank you to George for a wonderful stay! This was a welcome respite from a hectic city life.
Although chilly (for me) in December/January, George was extremely communicative about bringing cozy clothes. The heating pad on the bed is brilliant as it allowed for longer than normal morning's in bed... listening to the birds and enjoying peering out the window at the trees.
Thank you again for providing and maintaining this special space for us to enjoy! I'll be back in the Spring + Summer!

Quiet unique stay in the Santa Cruz redwoods with easy access to Scotts Valley, Santa Cruz and Capitola restaurants. We would definitely stay here again

My partner and I enjoyed a long weekend in this secluded mountain woods treehouse. While no shower or central air was unfamiliar at first, the outdoor tub and natural shade made for a very refreshing retreat.

If you are looking for a getaway, then this is the BEST place. Granted, it is winter, and it was COLD, but in the most amazing way. This house is beautiful and feels almost magical. With the large pond and deer and wild turkeys roaming in the field in front you don't feel like you're so close to the city. There was also a post about the land and restoration upon entering the driveway that was so cool. I would definitely recommend bringing a power strip to be able to charge multiple phones and extra blankets if you are going during a cold season. We layered on the blankets and clothes and were fine. We will definitely be booking again during each season to get a different experience. This is definitely a GEM and we LOVED it!

If you watched Swiss Family Robinson as a kid...well this is as close as I have even gotten to staying in a tree house like that!! It was so cozy and romantic for our honeymoon trip. It was secluded but very close to amenities. It was so cool to sleep in the redwoods. Nice touches throughout.

This place is so cute and cozy. It was so quiet and peaceful. Great place to get away and be alone. They provide lanterns and battery candles that I was so grateful for. It gets really dark! I would stay here again.

third time's a charm
This was my third stay within 6 months. Each time I have enjoyed the beauty and solitude ... Although I am retired, I still need a getaway for r&r and this place is perfect for me. Love it here!

Love the treehouse and surrounding property, but ...
Although I love being in the treehouse and enjoying the surrounding property and wildlife (deer and wild turkeys), one of the bed covers/blankets had some small twigs clinging to it. Also, I would enjoy spending time by the pond, but both times I have stayed ... the pond has been completely covered by scum/algae.

I'll be back
Loved my time in the tree house. Needed a getaway to relax and read, so it was a plus that the tree house had so many windows, so that when I tired of reading, I had relaxing views ... The deck was lovely early in the morning and at dusk. The interior's rustic quaintness made it hard to go outside. Loved seeing deer and hearing owls at night. Only negative: the pond needs to cleaned. Thank you!

Amazing Getaway
My husband and I were on an extended vacation and after almost two weeks this was a much needed 2 day getaway from the hustle and bustle of being tourists!! Our experience was one will not soon forget!! George was excellent from making our reservation to answering all our questions promptly and efficiently!, thank you for that!! If I had to complain about anything it would be that it rained most of the time we were there 😞 If you’re looking to relax for a few days with no noise just quiet nature then this is for you!!

Great Escape
This is a great place to stay if you want to unplug. George was very clear about the property and was very accommodating as we were running 6+ hours behind on getting to the property.
This is truly a place to unplug and re-energize. The outdoor bath/shower was really relaxing. Would love a little coffee maker as a coffee on the porch would be amazing in the AM.
Thank you George for an amazing stay.

An adventure with nature
We had an unforgettable time at the treehouse in the Santa Cruz mountains. The property was just as George described it, and being able to be surrounded by nature was exhilarating for us. We had a run-in with Nature, and George was beyond helpful in getting us settled. He is very responsive and made our stay fantastic!

Weekend away
This was a cute place to stay at with my partner and has always been a dream of mine to stay in a tree house. Listing was as described. The pond area and out door seating / chairs were a nice touch but also I think need to be updated a bit. It is a shared bath space with another listing but that did not really bother us. We couldn't hear or see them while they were there and was close to the city to go and grab food.

Fantastic location and house - very involved owner
Fantastic location and house - very involved owner.
First of all, the tree house is exactly as described and the couple staying there thought it was incredible. It was a great combination of outdoors and luxury.
I booked the tree house as a gift and unique experience for my sister and her husband on their wedding night. Admittedly, I did not tell the owner that I was booking the tree house for my sister (I didn't even tell the bride and groom about it until the wedding reception) but I didn't think it was relevant. Since it was a special occasion and the bride and groom were not informed in advance, I sent the photographer to the tree house with the couple to snap some quick pictures and set out a bottle of champagne with chocolate covered strawberries to the house. Again, I did not clear this with the owner in advance. As the photographer was not staying longer than necessary to get them settled in (~30 minutes), I did not think this would be an issue - especially at a tree house located at an out of the way destination.
I was mistaken. The main house is located pretty close to the tree house and the owner seems to keep tabs on everything that happens on the property. Before they even arrived at the tree house door, I was called because the photographer had gotten turned around following his directions. Then I was questioned about why there were two cars - apparently having two cars was strictly against the rules (I did not know that or see it posted anywhere). I explained the situation, said that the photographer was only staying a short time and apologized for the confusion. This did not seem to appease the owner. He asked me to relay rules to the couple, ensure that the extra vehicle left asap and even after giving my assurances, he went over to the tree house to talk to the bride and groom shortly after their arrival because "they were playing music too loud" - note it was not yet quiet hours and the music was being played off an iPhone.
I admit that I probably should have explained the situation to the owner and cleared things in advance. That being said, I kinda expected a little more privacy for a 'Quiet, rustic, off the grid, unique, romantic, yet close to everything!' tree house.

Romantic Getaway
The area and property were absolutely beautiful and the tree house was quaint and beautifully designed/decorated. I was surprised to see the main house of the property was so close, so was not as private as I initially imagined, but was still private enough. There is a beautiful pond and meadow and you are surrounded by redwoods, but not much room for exploring/trails etc. (unless you leave property). Check in is at 4 and check out is at 10, which they are very strict about (we were walked in on and asked to leave immediately -20 minutes after check out). We were also questioned why there was a bright glowing orb in the meadow during the night as if we were up to something? It was odd.
Overall I'd recommend- the outdoor tub was my favorite part. Enjoy!

Perfect magical getaway for one night (a bit tough to stay longer with no kitchen + outdoor bathtub), but truly unique for a special occasion

TreeHouse - not in a tree, without basic services :(
Cute and quiet retreat, but we were surprised by several aspects of this place. First, the house is not in a tree, but on the ground surrounded by trees. We learned in first grade, a treehouse is in a tree, otherwise it's a house.
This house win the trees has NO KITCHEN. We went back to the listing and found it stated at the bottom of a long description of the treehouse. This should really be at the top because it was not obvious that we would not be able to cook, bring an ice chest into the house, or even boil water to have coffee in the morning!
Also, the bathroom situation is not at all clear. The fact that there is NO SHOWER OR TUB should also be very clearly stated at the beginning of the text. Instead it isn’t mentioned at all, and in fact at the very end of the list of amenities under bathrooms it lists three different situations regarding bathrooms and not at all clear that the treehouse has only a toilet and sink.

Great retreat
My husband and I had a great time! He only thing that we didn’t realize was that the tree house had no electricity. It would have been great to have a coffeemaker at least. Otherwise absolutely a great place.

This treehouse is a wonderful tranquil getaway. The owner is really respectful of your privacy but also very helpful and responsive. I would highly recommend this if you want a little getaway and you enjoy the quiet and being out in nature. Its simple and serene.

Perfect getaway
Beautiful and perfect. Lovely place to stay. Make sure you take a lantern (or a lamp there is one plug-in) because the house is dark.

beautiful location, not so private
We had some trouble with a little rodent guest, and also another couple parked behind us, which was right by the outdoor tub, so I had to wait to shower until after they left. Otherwise a very special place! Loved the ferns and redwoods

Fun place to stay
Rustic cabin in the forest, manager had thoughtfully turned on strings of lights and laid out wine glasses with bottle open on balcony table, small electric heater kept it warm, bed was comfortable with plenty of older blankets, bathroom in the house has no door but there is a full toilet in small outhouse and an big outdoor bathtub, we enjoyed the experience and will return.

Secluded Santa Cruz stay
Amazing piece of property tucked away in the Santa Cruz mountains. This cabin was only 5 minutes off the highway yet nestled nicely under the Santa Cruz canopy. Once we entered the property, there wasn’t much direction / indication of where exactly the cabin was located; however, we were able to locate it without having to inquire further. I would definitely stay here again!

Quiet and serene
We loved staying in the treehouse! There were some really cute elements to the house and decor. The reason I didn't give it a 5 star rating is because 1. although the bamboo "door" is cute and I wasn't concerned about privacy, my husband and I are in our 60's and we make middle of the night visits to the bathroom. It was pretty noisy having the bamboo clunk together as we were quietly trying to pass through the "door". In the future, we would tie them to one side or something so we didn't disturb one another. 2. The platform at the top of the stairs creaks very loudly (again another old fogey middle of the night bathroom problem!! LOL) We learned to take a large step past the platform. 3. If you have sleep apnea, make sure you bring a 20 ft extension cord with you because one is not provided and you will need it for your C-pap machine if you sleep upstairs in the loft. Other than that, we were satisfied with our stay. We saw deer and turkey, it was a quiet, pretty and secluded area.Oh! One more thing: be aware that there is a 10:00 checkout instead of 11:00.
George, the proprietor, was very nice, helpful and easy to contact. He has a list of places to go and to eat available for you to check out.
