About this house rental
Country Get-a-way:
The GPS address is, 5114 Dick Woods Road, Charlottesville, VA 22903.
Are you looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of 21st century living, step back in time 200 years in order to enjoy the rhythms of nature? Come listen to the rain on a tin roof and sleep in the morning until you are finished.
You and your children can feed the chickens, collect eggs, milk goats or go for a long walk. Due to bio-security and health issues we have a strict no pet policy! The owners live in a separate cottage a short distance away and are available for help or emergency.
You can ring the dinner bell or hang out in the "Man Cave" with the 42 inch flat screen TV. Come away and relax with a glass of wine in the cool of the evening as all the stars in the Milky Way pop out to greet you.
The most amazing part of this saga is that it is available only a short 14 minute drive from the Rotunda at University of Virginia. Quarters Farm is also only 15 minutes from Pippen Hill Vineyard, King Family Vineyard and Pollack Vineyard. We are 45 minutes from Wintergreen and close to many fine restaurants.
One new addition is a catering service provided by close friends. They can have the frig stocked when you arrive or cater a meal during your stay. Prices and information sent upon request.
The history of the farm only adds to the mystique. In 1745 King George of England granted 1800 acres to the Mills family who moved to Virginia and had a three story home built with 6 rooms for themselves and their three sons. This home predates the beginning of construction on Thomas Jefferson's Monticello by 18 years. In the 275 years since then, wings and additions have been added on to the original stone and log construction
My father purchased 180 acres, along with the house, in 1952. It is now a sustainable farm selling pastured eggs, and other products which are all available to our guests. My wife and I live in a house close by and run the farm.
A beautiful kitchen attached to a large screened-in porch, along with a second story porch for enjoying the mountain views with your favorite beverage. 4 bedrooms and two bathrooms will comfortably meet your needs.
ALERT: Due to the design of this historic home, there are NO bathrooms/bedrooms on the ground floor. Access to the living areas is via a flight of stairs.
We believe that you will find this home truly inviting and relaxing, well furnished with antiques and beautiful furniture. The house has a whole house generator, so you will not have to leave in the case of a power outage.

Our host were fabulous, our stay was just what our family needed to celebrate and lift each other up. The house is adorable and in excellent condition. Very clean and the host were perfect communicators. It is a working farm and the host allow you to do as much or as little as you wish with the farm animals. If you are looking for a lovely weekend this is the place. The stars were magnificent

We had a great family visit at Quarters Farm. Bill and Cynthia were excellent hosts. They let the children feed the chickens and goats and help collect eggs. We loved the historic house and walking the loop around by the lake. It was a great base for visiting Monticello, UVA, and local orchards and restaurants. But we also really enjoyed just staying at the house and sitting on the screen porch and watching the cows graze and the goats cross the field. Bill and Cynthia, thank you again for your hospitality!

We had a class reunion at my house this July 4th, and our guests stayed at the farmhouse. The host was very nice and gave us a tour of the property. The rooms were very clean and full of character. The kids really enjoyed the farm experience, including feeding the chickens and goats, and collecting eggs.

Group of us there for a local wedding. Perfect location midway between the city and the wedding venue. Idyllic setting, terrific hosts.

This is our second time to stay here and it was again so relaxing! The hosts are awesome and let us enjoy chicken feeding and goat milking. The grounds are beautiful and the place is restful with a screened in porch for fellowship and food since the weather was cool. Definitely our go to place in the area!

Six adults and two children enjoyed a wonderful holiday weekend at Quarters Farm. The setting provided lovely views across the countryside and all enjoyed the historic property and its surroundings. The children were able to help with feeding the goats and chickens making it extra special. We all left feeling relaxed and appreciative of the time we spent there. Our hosts, Bill and Cynthia were most welcoming and helpful, and ensured the children also had a memorable time. We all agreed it was a setting and weekend to remember!

This was our second time to stay at this farm house. Anyone who is interested in farming, animals, American history or just wants a pleasant, pretty place to stay should book this property. My daughter was able to help milk the goats. My husband and I enjoyed the hike on the property to the fishing pond. We all enjoyed waking up to the sounds and sights of life on a farm. The hosts take extra care to meet all of your needs- highly recommend.

Bill and Cynthia are such amazing hosts and the property inside and out exemplifies it. What a great place to stay for some serious rural R&R! The property was very clean. They have thought of everything one would need for a delightful get away. If you forgot anything, just ask and they are sure to help one way or another. The Fresh eggs, courtesy of their chickens, were a treat and the farm animals are such fun…esp Posy, Zoey and Hemingway. We hope to return soon for a longer retreat! Thank you Bill and Cynthia for a short but wonderful stay!🙌☀️

My husband, 17 month old son, and I stayed with Cynthia and Bill for the weekend, along with my best friend, her husband and their two year old.
Cynthia and Bill were so welcoming, greeting us to let us in, and then helping the children feed the goats and chickens the following day. They had so much fun! Meanwhile, the farm stay was spacious, clean, quiet and beautiful.
The location is convenient access to lots of the local wineries and breweries, Crozet Pizza, and only 20 minutes from the downtown Charlottesville mall.
A wonderful stay. We can't wait to come back!

While visiting Charlottesville for a wedding, our family stayed at this beautiful farm house for the weekend. We absolutely loved it and hope to return next year. It was the perfect place to have our children run around and play. They loved feeding the baby goat with a bottle and helped collect eggs. Bill and Cynthia were the perfect hosts. Thank you for sharing this beautiful home with us!

My Grandson thoroughly enjoyed seeing and feeding all the animals. We came to Virginia to go to Wintergreen Resort which was only 40 mins away.

Although it was a short stay, our family thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Our granddaughters loved feeding the goats, and visiting Miche Tavern and the light show at the Boars Head Inn. Our friendly hosts made our visit all the more enjoyable. Would love to come back.

Granddaughter got to milk goats. Beautiful walk in the woods to pond. Mountain and farm animal viewing out all of our windows. House felt like home immediately. Hosts were amazing. Couldn’t have asked for better.

We had a group of 8 that turned into 9, and there was plenty of space for everyone to be comfortable. The goats, cows, chickens, pup, and kitten made the stay even better and Bill and Cynthia, of course, took great care of us throughout the weekend. Wonderful spot for a group/reunion of friends.

This place has the charm of a farmhouse from the 1700's and yet there is not a spec of dust, must or dirt! Super clean! New appliances in the kitchen and plenty of space inside as well as outside to explore. The McCaskills are great hosts. Their love for God's creation was evident in the beautiful cut flowers from their garden they had in each room. They even had decorations for fall up which made me feel as if I was visiting a friend. I got a thrill feeding the chickens and petting the goats. So that part isn't just for the children! We only had three of us stay this time but look forward to bringing back the whole family in the future! Thank you!

This house and property was my favorite place I’ve stayed in a long time. The house has so much history and is decorated so beautifully. It has everything you need and more. It is impeccably clean as well. We loved the slow mornings on the screened in porch with our coffee. Cynthia and Bill truly made our stay memorable and joyful. They were so excited to show us the house and tell us the history. They really take pride in the house, their animals, and their guests having a wonderful time. They let our children feed the chickens, feed the goats, milk the goats which was such a fun experience for all. There is a beautiful hike to a pond as well that is absolutely breathtaking.
Zoe the dog and Hemingway the cat were also a highlight of our trip
Cynthia and Bill are the kindest and most attentive hosts and I would stay over and over again! We created so many core memories there.

Our hosts were wonderful and readily available to us. The beds were comfy, the air conditioning did a great job keeping us all cool and comfortable. There was plenty of space for the 8 of us. We couldn't have found a better place for a weekend reunion! Bill and Cynthia provided us with farm fresh eggs, which we enjoyed on the enclosed porch looking out over cows, chickens, and goats roaming the pastures. Kitten Hemingway and their Great Pyrenees Zoe kept us entertained when we were at the house and not exploring. Perfect vacation spot! Everyone was happy! Thank you to our hosts! They're amazing!

Where to begin? EVERYTHING about our experience at Quarters Farm was top notch! From their initial welcome message when we first booked the property, Bill and Cynthia proved to be warm and welcoming hosts. They guided us through the night and gave us a personal tour upon arrival, filled with fun historical facts about the home and property, fresh cut flowers, and delicious farm fresh eggs. The home itself is absolutely beautiful and was right up our alley with its historical bones and farm animals abound. We were in town for a family wedding (just a hop, skip and jump from the church and venue) and those family members who came to visit us at the property afterwards were all jealous of our lodging. So much so, we are plotting a family reunion and hope to stay at Quarters Farm again!

We stayed one week while we prepared for and held our daughter’s wedding. The home was perfect for relaxing and preparing for the big day. Our granddaughter went with Bill to feed the chickens and goats and was also able to watch the milking. Fresh flowers were in many rooms which brightened everything and the porch was a fabulous place to have morning coffee and spend time visiting.
I have no reservations highly recommending this beautiful home.

Our family stayed in this beautifully updated and lovingly maintained historic farmhouse over a long weekend. The property has a magical quality: wandering paths through fields and rolling hills, watching a thunderstorm off the porch at night and seeing our grandson delighted to gather eggs and feed the animals. Thank you to our hosts who made us feel so effortlessly at home and like we were the most special guests. As the saying goes; worth the price of admission.

Cynthia and Bill were wonderful and welcoming hosts with Southern hospitality. We appreciated the history and charm of the house, the fresh cut flowers and farm fresh eggs and so much more! Bill showed our kids how to milk and feed the goats and built a great fire pit for us. Sugar Hollow north fork hike to the waterfalls was a nice trip.

We stayed here in 2022 for our daughter’s graduation and returned this year for her second graduation. I almost wish she’d go back for another degree so we could enjoy the serenity of the farm again. We will have to visit just for fun. Bill & Cynthia are amazing hosts.

This was our third stay at Quarters Farm. That should tell you everything you need to know. We have three kids, under 2, 6, and 7. Our 6 and 7 year old have talked about 'The Farmhouse' since our last couple of stays in 2020. We wanted to return and keep the memory alive. Mr. Bill and Mrs. Cynthia were great as always. Every morning we fed the chickens and this time baby goats! We love Quarters Farm and hope to return again.

Our host were very accommodating and friendly. Our family enjoyed the screened in porch area especially as well as the abundant flowers and farm animals on the property. The beds are comfortable and all 7 of us had room to spread out. Thank you for making our stay in Charlottesville comfortable.

We all loved our week-long stay at the farm! We had a wide range of weather and exciting adventures. The hosts were incredibly accommodating and helpful. The house is clean and comfortable, and full of rooms and books to explore. The farm is a joy! There were chicks and kid goats and calves to watch and hear. Trees and flowers were blooming, and the variety of birds was astounding! Mornings on the screened in porch were magical. And those fresh eggs and lemons.... From 17 months to 71 years, we all had a wonderful time. Though we were very sad to leave, we felt refreshed and restored by our time on the farm.

We stayed here for a bachelorette party and it was our first time in Charlottesville. It was a beautiful property and was located perfectly in winery country. Bill and Cynthia were wonderful kind hosts and let us feed their goats and showed us around the farm. We truly loved it and would come back again!

This rental has to be our favorite of all time. Not only did the house have every convenience imaginable, the hosts were so very friendly and gracious.
