Loved the location! We loved sitting on the deck and watching the deer and enjoying the morning sky over the water. It's so quiet yet is still conveniently close to Acadia Park and Bar Harbor. The house is very spacious and well stocked. This is definitely a place we would consider if we return to Maine. Highly recommend.

Plenty of space for 3 couples. Great water view off the deck. Saw the deer walking around the property. Water pressure for showers was weak but we made the best of it. Captains Quarters would be a stellar property if it were updated. The artwork was very nice touch.

Enjoyed our stay. Teenagers' loved the bedroom above the garage. Enjoyed seeing the deer playing in the front.
Would liked a handrail or handle to help getting up the small stairs inside the front door.

Our overall stay was great. Very comfortable and offered many fans on those warm humid days. The AC is only in room above garage, a point which I did not see the detail on. Jan was reachable within 24 hours with any questions or concerns we had. Our family enjoyed ping ping in basement. It was very cool down there.the enjoyed the coole

Excellent location next door to Acadia, my husband and brother in law walked to the Acadia Mountain hike from the property. Jan is great, very responsive. The kitchen is well stocked with plenty of kitchen essentials including a crock pot which was amazing. We also had a very large group and didn’t run out of towels! The large porch on the back overlooking Somes Sound was my favorite, drinking coffee and eating breakfast there in the morning I won’t easily forget

Property is centrally located on the island with view of Somes Sound from large back deck. Great accommodations for family.

This property was exactly as described. We had 7 adults and 3 children under the age of 4 and had plenty of room. We ate many meals at the house and had plenty of plates utensils, pots pans, etc. This property is only 20 minutes away from the park, Bar Harbor and many hiking trials. The communication with the host Jan was outstanding. We would definitely stay here again!

The property was quaint and charming. However we were on Mt Desert during a hot spell and only one room was air conditioned. Beautiful views! We were visiting family in Somesville so the location was perfect for us!

Comfortable home in a nice quiet location, pretty view from the deck. Jan was quick to respond to any questions we had. Lovely visit to Acadia!

We had a wonderful time exploring Acadia National Park from this house. The location was awesome and the house had plenty of space and a great deck overlooking the sound.

We absolutely loved our stay in this quaint Maine house with a beautiful view! Great location - easy access to Southwest Harbor and Bar Harbor, deer in the yard daily, and lobsters off the boat at the bottom of the hill. It suited our extended family perfectly- we will be back!

We had a fabulous stay at Captains Quarters. The property is clean and spacious. Conveniently located minutes away from Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor while affording peace and privacy. The view from the back deck overlooking the Somes Sound is beautiful. The kitchen is well stocked with anything you'd need to cook, including a lobster pot and popover tins. The beds are very comfortable and rooms are large. Jan was so responsive to answer any questions we had. We would definitely stay here again.

Older property but location is great.

The house was very dirty. Soiled carpeting, orange mold on shower curtains, stained furniture, dead bugs all over the floors and un-vacuumed carpets. Everything is old and nothing is updated with wallpaper peeling off in the bathroom. The cookie sheets and non-stick frying pans were rusted and black as were a number of the metal utensils. Emailed the owner about none of the floors being cleaned when we arrived and she did not offer to send cleaning service back over.
The saving grace was the view, but the outdoor furniture was also old and dirty so hard to enjoy the deck. Would not rent again.

Lovely home with great view of Somes Sound
We rented this house for a family reunion. We were very pleased with Captain's Quarters overall. The bedrooms were comfortable and the large deck with a view of the sound was especially nice. We were disappointed with access to the internet. At best it was very slow. At worst, we couldn't connect at all.
The location of the house was just right for our group. Everyone appreciated the quiet location and easy access to the western parts of the island.

Great Getaway
Nice location on the “quite side” of the island. Easy access to many attractions and towns.
Lots of room for the whole family to stay.

Great location. Wonderful views. Saw deer and squirrels from the deck almost daily. Close to all the scenic places we wanted to visit. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Mainely a magical Maine memory
Very enjoyable stay at a well located area on Mount Desert island. Close proximity to Echo Lake and South West Harbor, twenty minutes from Bar Harbor. The property is secluded, spacious with a nice view of the sound. From deer to skunks to humming-birds we had all sorts of wild-life visitors.
The house is nicely decorated with a fully equipped kitchen with a great rec room for ping-pong. It has most of the amenities and we (10) felt comfortable, but could have sorely used an extra full bathroom, because there is only two.
The landlord was very gracious and responded immediately to questions.
The only thing missing to make it a perfect 10 would have been a fire pit, and a grill (which we bought and donated to the house)

Great location. Beautiful sunrises and view of Somme’s Sound. Convenient location.

Pleasant but needs work.
Home was central to all that Mt. Desert Island had to offer with Mt. Acadia, Echo Lake, and a boat launch nearby. Not far from Ellsworth for groceries. Property needs some updating. There was no key to lock the house. Property manager stopped communicating once we got there. It was unclear about which boat belonged to the house and there were no oars. The water was further away than indicated.

Excellent house for exploring Acadia
The house was very clean, well equipped, and conveniently located. We specially enjoyed having a garage to store our bikes andnother gear, and a finished basement equiped for ping pong and other games. Perfect spot to let the kids play and have some space for themselves. The house is very close to Echo Lake, which was a perfect spot for swimming on the hot summer days We had. The house is also close to a grocery store and a couple of restaurants that were not as croweded as busy Bar Harbor. Overall a great spot for vacationing!

Awesome time. Nice quiet neighborhood with deer and fox sightings.

Nice, comfortable house. Well equipped, clean, everything worked well. Wonderful view of Somes Sound
The house is nice and comfortable but definitely dated. It was warm and comfortable. Low ceilings, small bathrooms, small kitchen. But, it was very accommodating and easily met our needs - 6 adults, three married couples. I suggest new pots and pans and a new dishwasher. Maybe a face lift is needed too. Still, I can easily recommend this house. Plus - it was nice being close to Southwest Harbor and the west side of MDI - a bit away from the hustle and.bustle of Bar Harbor.

Great stay!
We had a lovely time at Captains Quarters! The house is in a great location, just minutes from Acadia NP and Bar Harbor. The home is well stocked with everything you need and clean. we slept 9 people very comfortably and enjoyed the great deck overlooking the sound and the ping pong table in the basement Jan is an amazing host and very quick to respond to any questions. The home does not have AC, as I'm sure a lot don't, but there were plenty of fans provided and screen doors to keep us comfortable on the unusually warm days...Echo lake beach is just a couple miles down the road for cooling off too! We would definitely rent Captains Quarters again!

My group of 7 friends stayed at Captain's Quarters for a week and just loved it. We had plenty of space and loved sitting on that incredible deck at any time of day! The game room downstairs is fun, too. Taking our coffee down the hill and sitting on the dock was definitely a highlight! The house is on the quieter side of the island, but still an easy drive to busy Bar Harbor and famous Acadia sights. There are some really great hikes just a couple of minutes away (Flying Mountain, Beech Mtn, Acadia Mtn) that are much less busy than the rest of Acadia, as well as the gorgeous Echo lake for swimming! FYI: All of Mount Desert Island has really bad cell service and the house had pretty slow internet (which I think they are looking to fix), so if you're looking to work from home there, I'd check with Jan first.

Our stay in Maine
This property was perfect for our family vacation, we had a blast! Such a beautiful location with lots of wild life and friendly neighbors.

Great spot!
We loved our stay. Only complaint is very little available kitchen storage. It’s all fulled with really too many dishes. And - the water access is a bit of a walk which we had to ask directions for- this was unclear in the listing. The house is great for a family vacation!

A great way to see Maine
Captains Quarters provided an easily accessible base of operations on Mt. Desert Island’s “quiet side” for our three-generation family of eight’s first Maine vacation. Sunrise views of Somes Sound from the family room and spacious deck offered a lovely backdrop for morning coffee and evening BBQ, while the basement game room and fireplace made a great hideaway on a rainy day. All the beds were comfortable, the kitchen had all the equipment we needed, and everything was clean and tidy. A great place to stay.

Perfect!
We stayed here with 6 adults (3 couples) and our 7 year old granddaughter, and had a marvelous time. The house is perfectly located in the quiet Somes Sound region, much less touristy than Bar Harbor, which is about 20 minutes away. Quainter, quieter Southwest Harbor, Northeast Harbor, and Seal Harbor are nearby, and the entrance to Echo Lake is just 5 minutes down the road.
Bedrooms are large and comfortable, and there are 5 (!) bathrooms. The kitchen is very well equipped, although counter and cupboard space is a bit challenging - plan on bringing a tote or other container to store food. We cooked fresh lobster sourced from a neighbor - delicious! The deck is the crown jewel of the property - huge, with plenty of seating, and the most wonderful view of the sound. We looked forward to our daily visits from the resident deer - 4 fawns with their moms that visited frequently.
The basement rec room is a great place to escape the occasional hot and humid day -temps were in the 90s during our visit, and there's no a/c. Plenty of fans are available and there's always a nice breeze, so the heat wasn't much of a problem.
There's a sizeable campground next door, and we were a bit worried about the noise a couple of times, but it didn't end up to be an issue - it seemed like they have a pretty strict noise policy.
If you're looking to explore the true quiet beauty of Mt. Desert Island, this is the perfect place to do it.

Great vacation home
My family and I recently stayed in Captain's Quarters.(There were six of us.) We enjoyed the house very much. It is roomy, very nicely decorated, very clean and has all the amenities. We loved the view of the Sound off the huge back deck. A little deer came into the back yard every day, and a few times right up under the deck. The house is located in a secluded, quiet area and yet only a short distance from Southwest Harbor, Bar Harbor, etc I would recommend staying in Captain's Quarters. It is perfect for a family or several groups of friends.. M. L. Garrison
