Dan was fantastic, house was just as described, are looking forward to another stay at the River House.

Dan was super pleasant and friendly. House is cute, but dated; clean, but not squeaky clean. Recliners are worn and uncomfortable, towels are old, and shower curtain liner needs replacing. The weather was perfect for opening the upstairs windows at night, and having access to the internet is a plus. The location suited our needs and we would stay again.

Well managed and well maintained. It has everything. But a little close to road with traffic noise.

Lovely house with nice touches. Plenty to see on the peninsula—Castine, Deer Isle, Stonington, Blue Hill to name a few of the beautiful spots. Dan, the host, had some excellent suggestions for local restaurants, too.

Dan is a top- notch host. He’s easy to communicate with, flexible, and super friendly. The house feels like an Irish B&B in its decor. Very comfortable! Highlight is sitting on the deck, overlooking the meadow toward parts of the Penobscot River in the distance. Frequent visits from a pair of bluebirds was a special treat.

It was a cute cottage. No air conditioning upstairs made it a little uncomfortable during a high humidity week. Furniture waa a bit too used and worn. It was a good location for traveling to lighthouses in Mid Maine. We had a great time finding lighthouses and eating lobster ar Glenn's Restaurant.

We enjoyed our stay at the Riverhouse. Dan was a gracious host who met us for checkin and checkout. He recommended restaurants and things to see and do.
The bedrooms are upstairs and it was quite warm during our stay, so that was the only drawback. Dan had fans for the bedrooms which helped and opening the windows allowed a breeze at night. The air conditioning is a window unit.
We walked down the hill and through the woods to the Penobscot River and enjoyed looking for shells several times. One evening, we startled a deer who was relaxing in the woods.
Castine is a cool town and Penobscot Narrows Bridge and Observatory/Fort Knox is definitely worth a visit. Acadia was about an hour away and overcrowded since it was the summer, which meant getting back to the Riverhouse took 100+ minutes in the evening.

Had a pleasant stay here. No issues with property and owner was very nice. Good views and location, situated between plenty of small towns and tourist spots. Thanks!

The house is very nice & well kept with a nice view of the Orland River valley. It’s about 12 minutes from Castine, 12 minutes from Bucksport, & 1 hour from Bar Harbor. It’s a short walk on their property to the shore of the Orland River. There are several fishing/tourist towns to visit within a hour (Searsport, Belfast, Lincolnville, Camden, Rockland, Blue Hill, Ellsworth, Trenton, Bar Harbor, & others). There are many lakes nearby too. Dan is very nice & informative too.

The property was was quiet and very clean and the owner met with us to see if there was anything that we needed. He lives only 2 doors down from this cottage. I would highly recommend this cottage. This place had everything we needed. Ty Mr. Brooks.

It has been our STR experience that sites that are individually owned and locally managed provide the most enjoyable stays. Dan Brooks is the perfect example. The Riverhouse is everything it is represented to be: well-located for exploration of the region, delightfully and thoughtfully furnished, and, in a word, charming. Dan is an involved veteran host who, from prior to arrival to departure, is there to ensure that your visit is completely what you anticipate and more. His experience and pride in his native area are boundless and Dan shares his knowledge joyfully. The title says it all: Perfect Home, Perfect Host.

We really enjoyed our stay in this rental. Dan responds quickly to questions and is pleasant to work with. Everything you need is at this rental: the kitchen is fully stocked, there's a room AC on the 1st floor and large fans on the 2nd floor, and the linens and towels are provided. It's a 45 min. drive to Acadia, and there are many quaint harbor towns in driving distance.

The Riverhouse was the perfect cottage for our first trip to Maine. It gave us the country cottage feel while being close enough to the grocery, restaurants and things to do.
Our host, Dan, was absolutely amazing!! He contacted us several times to make sure we had the correct directions to the cottage and to make us aware about changes in the weather. Due to travel delays, we were VERY late arriving but he had the light on for us. He met me the next morning to go over any questions we had and to share with us the history of the area and the house. Dan is a true "inn keeper" sharing his love of the area, the history and making sure his guests have a memorable vacation.

This was the perfect place! The house was beautiful and right on the water with a private beach just down a walking path! It's about 45 minutes from all the main attractions which was perfect for us because we didn't want in the hussle and bussle, we wanted that relaxing and true vacation feeling which is what you will get when you stay here. Dan was pneoumonial and was there to welcome us when we arrived to ensure we had everything we needed. Will definitely be back and will work with Dan!!

Dan is a wonderful host who went out of his way to help us and make us feel comfortable. Would gladly stay again! Thanks Dan!

We stayed at the River House last week, and had perfect weather for our first trip to Maine. The house is centrally located for near by attentions. It was a 45 minute drive to Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor. Fort Knox is close by. Dan met us shortly after we arrived and gave us a run down on the house and surrounding area, that was very helpful to us. We recommend this rental, and will be returning again. Thank you Dan !

The house had a nice view of the river and we were able to walk down to it. Dan was wonderful host and enjoyed sharing information. The refrigerator and oven were not very clean and the table on the deck was not usable. The house is close to a busy road. The new grill was awesome! We enjoyed our stay!

Small, quaint home, but a good central location for all your day adventures. Was perfect for a sisters get away. Would recommend for an adult couple, but not for a family with small children. Owner was friendly and awesome! Would stay again.

Disappointed on recent stay..We were informed upon arrival of water shortage,no laundry/dryer on property, limited to 5 min showers.Unaware of brown moth in area which can cause severe rash.We were cautious and it limited our outdoor activities. Overall, back yard views lovely to laze only.

A perfect spot to relax. It is an hour away from Bar Harbor traffic. We enjoyed the river view and having an entire house to ourselves. Just what we were looking for.

Quaint home with a beautiful view of the Penobscot River. Met our needs for hiking in Acadia and exploring Bar Harbor. This trip we explored many of the small towns such as Castine, Wintersport, Deer Isle, Stonington etc. Reds eats was great and enjoyed the Lobster from Carriers. Dan was a great host with recommendations and with his knowledge of the area!

Great location, easy access by car to a number of mid-coast outdoor activities, nearby walking access to Orland River on property a plus!

The house is cute and has a kitchen with everything you need in Corona times to be independent of take out food. The host and owner, Dan is a gentleman through and through, and as such understands that you need attention only when asked for it. He lives close by just in case. Check in and check out were pleasant encounters. Overall we enjoyed our stay very much!

This quiet and cozy cottage sits up on a ridge above the Penobscot River. The cottage was clean and had everything we needed for our stay. There are amenities such as grocery shopping and restaurants within an easy drive. We enjoyed the broad deck overlooking the water.

We stayed at the Riverhouse over Thanksgiving and enjoyed the laid back atmosphere of the area.
Dan is very accomodating and was quick to respond to any of our emails and requests.
The cottage is clean and nicely decorated and has very reliable internet which was very important as this was a working getaway for us.
We enjoyed exploring and sightseeing along the Maine Coast and stopped into Youngs for a delicious lobster roll while we were there.
Nice relaxing experience.

Riverhouse was conveniently located to many attractions. Maps, brochures, and a folder about local attrations were there for us to peruse, and the owner offered many helpful suggestions for dining and sightseeing as well. The owner, Dan, was friendly and even stopped by to welcome us. The view from the back deck of Riverhouse was beautiful. The home was very clean and nicely decorated, and beds were comfortable. Perhaps a recliner or more comfortable seating for lounging would have been nice, but overall the stay was enjoyable and relaxing.

Great stay, the house is charming, it's small but has everything you need! Great location for sightseeing, it's not so far off the main highways to add too much travel time, Castine is lovely, close to Bar Harbor and Acadia. We loved it, would definitely return! Dan is a gracious host and a font of knowledge on the area.

We had a great stay at the Riverhouse! With two young girls, having access to the river's shore via a short walk through the field was key. There was plenty of room for them to explore, find shells, collect rocks, etc. I did recommend this for families with young children (ours are 6 & 4) even though the house is on a fairly busy road - but again, there is plenty of room in the back of the house to roam. Orland was the perfect launching point to explore the surrounding areas - whether it was a short hike over in Blue Hill, or visiting the Penobscot Marine Museum, or exploring Fort Knox & the Narrows Bridge Observatory, or even a day trip over to Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor - there was plenty to do within a short drive. Castine was also a beautiful step back in time. And if you're a fan of the children's author Robert McCloskey, why not a visit to Buck's Harbor and enjoy an ice cream at the same market as Lil Sal! Dan was a gracious host and the accommodations were modest and more than adequate. The house has an interesting history and is beautifully landscaped. And don't forget the sunsets from the back porch!
