Lovely quiet location but also close to amenities. Cottage was very comfy and had everything we needed. Excellent stay

Great location for us. Bouncy castle really made the holiday for our 6 year old.
Lots of room in the cottage and great facilities. Everything we needed for our stay. It was a nice touch that fresh milk and butter were in the fridge.

Spacious and well equipped

This is the second time that we have stayed at South Downs Rural Retreats. The cottages are on a working farm which is peaceful with great views. Silver Birch Cottage is spacious with a reasonably well equipped kitchen. There is a large walk in shower with 2 shower heads. Towels are white, large, absorbent and fluffy kept beautifully warm by a large heated towel rail. The bed is comfy with white linen. There is plenty of very hot water! The tv and wi-fi work well.
I felt that the ‘welcome’ was a little underwhelming. No one really came to say ‘hello’ or asked if we needed anything during our 3 night stay. There was a pack of butter in the fridge whereas for us a pint of milk would have been a more appreciated gesture after a long journey. Kitchen supplies were running low from the previous guests but extras such as kitchen roll were not stocked. I cook and the selection of pans and utensils are a bit hit and miss - what happened to the humble potato peeler? It is quite expensive to stay at these Cottages and perhaps we expected just that little bit more. In saying that this is a working farm and I appreciate the proprietor has at times other priorities.

the property itself was absolutely beautiful the location was amazing ! we had booked for a wedding within findon village and found this stunner of a property having my little girl with me the outside area was an added bonus where she could run around and let steam off. There was a sheep fair on in the village the day of the wedding which meant the taxi had issues getting to us the lady I believe called Emma gave us a lift down to meet the taxi she went above and beyond to assure we got there. The cottage it beautiful and had absolutely everything we needed.will definitely return soon :)

Stylish, clean, functional, rural, nice walks, close to town
we couldn’t stay longer

We loved the position of the property, Ash Cottage provided us with marvellous views. And we loved being able to visit the piggies. The family pets were just as welcoming :)
I wouldn't describe this as we "didn't like" would prefer this to be seen as some useful feedback. An aspect we found missing (though no big deal) was the lack of shelving in the bathroom to place toiletries, or perhaps a little caddy/basket in the shower area.

The host, the views, the farm. The host’s dogs.

We loved everything, especially the fabulous wildlife, including hares, barn and little owls and red kites

It was a place where we could relax. Just come and go as we pleased. Get our clothes washed ready for the next leg of our travels
Nothing.! Everything was perfect.

Monkey Puzzle Cottage on Gallops Farm is a great place to stay. The views from the sitting room are spectacular and the farm animals in the adjoining field are both entertaining and peaceful to observe. The cottage itself is well equipped and comfortable. There is underfloor heating which I imagine gives the cottage a cozy feel in the cooler months. Not needed by us as the sun shone every day. The towels are large and fluffy. The complimentary eggs, milk and butter were much appreciated. Thank you for providing a cafetière and a teapot - often missing from a kitchen. Parking is excellent and communication with the host Emma was always friendly and efficient. We will be returning!
I don’t think that there is anything that I could add here. If I was really picky I might suggest a small dishwasher but that is just me being lazy!!

Very well designed and more spacious than expected. Good walking in the area. Beautiful Downland.

Excellent property and fiendly hosts. Good location for exploring the area. Everything worked well in the cottage including the wifi, TV, kitchen appliances and shower. Our children loved the holiday. We enjoyed meeting the animals on the farm. We would stay again.
No concerns or dislikes.

Our whole stay in the cottage at Gallops Farm was so nice. It was cosy, warm clean and had a lovely view. Will definitely come again.
There was nothing we didn't like.

Very clean and tidy, nice location and a really helpful host. Everyone we met was friendly.
Great place to stay with an really good location. Loads of local walks without going anywhere near a road.

The property otherwise is greatly kept in an outstanding location with a really good host taking care of the guests.
The property furniture (sofa, mattress and chairs) need better firm cushions on them.
They were all just sinking in unfortunately, so sitting on any of them was not very comfortable.

Everything! The cottage was in a beautiful location. The cottage was clean and well provided with thoughtful touches like butter and eggs in the fridge. The staff were very kind and thoughtful. We left something behind in the cottage and they contacted me about it straight away. We had a lovely holiday. I would definitely recommend to my friends
Would have liked to be told which entrance to use in advance as the satnav took me on the narrow unnamed road instead of the main route, and I'm sure that it's not just on my satnav. The bathroom door was very noisy to close at night. The driveway needs some repairs.

Some of the TV channels kept losing their connection. The neighbouring wall wasn't totally soundproofed. There was no Wifi.

Beautiful views, amazing cottage, Brilliant hosts

Lovely location, tranquil and just what we wanted
Everything was great

The inside of the cottage was lovely, nice and modern with lots of space. The kitchen was well equipped, the bed big and comfy and the shower large and roomy with good water pressure.
The outside area of Silver Birch needs a bit of work - two of the three windows face onto an ugly concrete wall. Something simple, like bamboo screening and we'll maintained tall pot plants could make the area more attractive.
There is also little soundproofing between the cottages. We were fortunate to have quiet neighbours, but this could be an issue for some guests.

The location was great for discovering the local area. My 18month old son loved being on the farm and running around the field, feeding the pigs and seeing the tractors. Accommodation comfortable and just what you need. The hosts were friendly and welcoming.
4.7
some basic essentials were provided which we didn't expect which was a lovely surprise after a long journey.
the standard of decoration was excellent with modern appliances and the standard of cleanliness was superb.
Our hosts couldn't do enough for us, the views were beautiful and calming and on one occasion we walked into the main town in under 30mins
Reception, our host relies on a phone call to receive guests, this took a few mins, and a bit of walking about as we were getting answerphone messages, so a clear sign of where 'reception' amongst the buildings is would be advantageous. That would be my only criticism of our stay, everything else surpassed expectation
4.7
Location superb. Great view from the living room & terrace. Lovely 'goodies' on arrival - local eggs, bread, butter, milk and beautiful flowers. Friendly host very kindly showed visiting grandkids round the farm.
Would have preferred a dishwasher to a washing machine as only stayed a few days, & an extra mug (only 3 there) but that is a minor niggle!
4.7
Probably one of the best places we have stayed
