About this house rental
This rambling farmhouse has a balanced mix of meticulous restoration with an eccentric flair. Undermountain Farm is a home carefully designed with warmth and spirit. It also has a unique collection of fascinating antiques and collectibles.
Enjoy cooking in the state-of-the-art kitchen, your only dilemma being where to eat. You can choose the solarium, surrounded by exotic plants and the sun streaming through the glass, or the patio, where you might hear the roar of the waterfall which tumbles down the mountain behind the house after a rainfall. Or you could try the formal dining room which still has the original Dutch oven from the 18th century. The veranda is a good choice for afternoon tea and a view of the Highland Cattle in the meadows. Yet another option is the informal breakfast/farm table on the stone floor near the entrance to the house. Lastly, there are the two stool chairs at the eat-in kitchen counter with a view of the luminous kitchen delicately accented with orchids. The hand-crafted cabinetry in the kitchen was all made from one maple tree from the property. We recently had a large dinner party for forty people in the breakfast sitting room after we removed the couch and chairs. Tis was the very max I would like to say. With all the downstairs rooms we were able to have hors d'oeuvres in the dinning room, a bar in the green house, and dancing, complete with a disco ball, in the stable.
Suffice it to say, this farmhouse has many rooms to enjoy. If you like a large space, then the former stables might suit you with its high vaulted ceilings and original beams it boasts a magnificent stone fireplace and huge windows that offer a pastoral view of the surrounding meadows. If you prefer a cosy room, then the den is ideal with its antique wood paneling and big comfy leather chairs. Its soothing, ambient feeling will make you want to curl up with a good book in front of the wood stove and forget about the outside world. The formal living or 'sitting' room has views of the big willow tree and a telescope to view the night sky. The informal living area adjoining the kitchen is an easy and friendly gathering place. Our home has three fireplaces and two wood stoves to keep you warm, and there’s also a fire cauldron and grill on the back stone patio.
If you’re staying with friends, you will have to draw straws for the huge master bedroom where the rising sun illuminates the artfully plastered walls creating a deep, orange, radiant light in the morning. Besides the beautiful tinted plaster, the added bonus in the master bathroom is the shower and its floor of river stones, and the jacuzzi where you can gaze over the meadows to the grazing Highland Cows. Those who drew the shorter straws will be happy in the other three bedrooms which have lovely outlooks over the Berkshire Hills and offer a quiet respite for a restful sleep; including the soothing sounds of a seasonal babbling brook. Two of these rooms are also upstairs and share a full bath. The last is on the main floor and is directly next to the downstairs full bath. All beds are Queen size except the downstairs which is an antique frame and special mattress bigger than a Double, but just shy of a Queen. In addition, both convertible sofas are Queen size. We have three single couches which can be utilized.
Walking, hiking, and cross country skiing abound and can start right from the back door. As Nature Conservancy land abuts the house there are no visible neighbors, and so lots of privacy. Up at the top of the ridge next to Bear Rock Falls is the Appalachian Trail - just behind the house!
A unique House, all hand-plastered, with a long history, old foundations on the property, a midden. A simple, and calming stay, gentle Highland Cows and Belted Galloways included...

We had 15 people stay for three nights for a family reunion - 9 adults and 6 kids. The house worked well, as all had reasonably private spaces. The countryside is beautiful.
Visits to a lake for swimming and several local waterfalls worked well for all.

Place was very interesting and eclectic! Beautiful home with many rooms and many things to look at and admire! Lots of books, Knick knacks etc.
It worked out well for the 8 of us in town for a family wedding in Sheffield. The owner, Robin was a really interesting guy and fun to talk to.

We have 20 years experience renting homes for family gatherings and this is the most interesting and amazing property. Gardens galore, plenty of space to congregate or go off by yourself, fully appointed kitchen, and comfortable space. We were a party of ten and everyone loved the experience.

There were 6 adults and 2 infants in our party, we were in town for our 25 year high school reunion. The house was incredible and the host went above and beyond to make sure we were well taken care of. This place is a hidden gem and deserves all of the praise.

Beautifully renovated old farmhouse in Sheffield, MA. Very well cared for, very clean and very comfortable. We were a party of 8 adults, one child, plus two dogs. Great kitchen for cooking. Plenty of space and rooms to get away from the crowd to find some peace and quiet. It is a large property but does not feel that way. Just lovely. We arrived on a very cold day, and Robin, the owner, had fired up the wood stove to welcome us. Robin is very responsive but laid back at the same time. In other words, the perfect host. Cannot wait to go back!

Beautiful setting in the Berkshires at Undermountain Farm surrounded by cows on either side of the property.

A large, rambling farmhouse with many things in it. The kitchen was well-appointed. There were not so many comfortable places to sit either indoors or outdoors. The owner was very responsive. The beds could use updating. Very bucolic!

My extended family very much enjoyed our month at the farmhouse. The environs are beautiful, the farmhouse itself is well appointed and comfortable - and it and can comfortably sleep a very large number of guests. Robin was an attentive and engaging host who gave us quite a bit of local insider information which made our stay more enjoyable (for example we had a 2 1/2 year old and robin arranged for us to get a pass to local lake beach - which was a life saver on the days it was hot). In summary we throughly enjoyed our stay at the farmhouse and very much enjoyed the hospitality of the berkshires.

More than expected
The photos don’t do this place justice. There is plenty of space to spread out, both inside and out. Numerous comfortable rooms to hang out in alone or with others. We attended a family reunion 5 minutes away for 3 days and Robin’s place was so wonderful to come back to and decompress or simply visit in a quieter atmosphere. Because it is obviously lived in there is nothing sterile about it and one is easily able to relax. Every thing was clean, beds comfortable, each bedroom had good privacy. Would stay again without hesitation, in fact, would look for an excuse to do so. Thank you so much Robin!

Down on the farm.
The propety worked well for three adult couples, plus 5 chidren from 9 to 1. We were able to take advantage of the Berkshires, plus made use of the grounds. The young children loved the cows. We had a great time individually and as a group.

What a wonderful time!
Our family had an amazing time. The place is gorgeous and well kept. The rooms beautiful and spacious. Sitting in the front porch with our tea and coffee looking out to the pasture was so relaxing. There’s a lot to do in the area. Some went to Catamount mountain for the ropes course, others went horseback riding and another group fished on the Twin Lakes! Great location!! Robin, thank you so much for opening up your home to us!!! It was a pleasure meeting you!!!

Antique lovers will adore this home!
Perfect location for a family wedding in the area. Home offered plenty of room to spread out and cozy nooks to visit and catch-up. One important note: air conditioning is by window units in the bedrooms and one unit in the living/kitchen area, not central air.

Magical!
Robin is an incredible host and we absolutely loved his property. He was patient with us (two families with children and a dog) and his property is absolutely delightful. Robin has thought of all the details and makes guests comfortable during their stay. The house feels like a home, and the sunsets are absolutely beautiful.. Robin even left us feed so the children could feed the cows. I could see this being a wonderful place to visit year round and I just fell in love with the area. I hope to return soon.

Wonderful house, as advertised. Robin was very responsive.

Great house with great cows.
Robin's farmhouse is really a great property, somehow both sprawling and cozy, with lots of different nooks for folks to hide away in and big open spaces for everyone to gather in. One note for travelers: As of this visit, none of the windows in any of the bedrooms have shades or blinds – the headlights of passing cars come through at night, and when the sun comes up, it comes right up in your room whether you're ready or not! But Robin is a great host, and the cows are a wonderful calming sight from the windows of this lovingly refurbished home.

Great Berkshires Getaway
Great renewed farmhouse in a bucolic setting among farms and cows. Very peaceful, and close enough to some of the small Berkshire downtowns. Robin (the owner) couldn't have made us feel more at home.

Great country house
The house is fully restored, spacious, comfortable and well equipped. The owner, who restored the house and whose craftsmanship is apparent throughout, met us at the door and took the time to show us around the house and all its features. It is located hear hiking trails and Great Barrington, and is a thoroughly relaxing place to hang out and spend time with family and friends.

Comfortable, refined atmosphere
We loved our stay at Robin’s farm. Communication was clear from the start, Robin was easy to communicate with and the home and property were beyond our expectations. True English style- colorful, interesting, elegant. The home is filled with antiques, books, collections and interesting pieces and details throughout. Honestly, we felt at home immediately and did not want to leave. This is a home that stays with you. We look forward to returning and recommend this property without reservation.

Beautifully restored farmhouse with lots of room
We loved our stay at this beautifully restored farmhouse. Every thing was just so nice about this place- the size ( it’s huge and has three separate areas to eat), a great room w piano and TV, outdoor area with firepit, solarium where we had morning coffee. Trapeze rings hanging from the beams ( which was our kid’s favorite thing to do).
The kitchen is stunning with a huge subzero fridge and a great gas range. Fully stocked ( with three different kinds of coffee making options which we appreciate), a proper kettle to have a nice cup of tea, and really nice quality pans.
There also is spices, salt etc oil.
There are four bedrooms, the master suite being huge with a very interesting and enjoyable shower with multiple shower jets. And a large jacuzzi tub. Beds were comfortable. Two other bedrooms had a queen and the last room had a smaller bed more like a double. The master has no window blinds so bring an eye mask if you don’t want to wake up at sunrise!
Three full bathrooms, and very nice and spacious.
A playground which we used and they met the neighbor’s kid ( a family loves over the garage) who was very nice and offered her trampoline to them.
Cows in the field, very pretty and peaceful spot. Highly recommend. Good for a large group too we didn’t even use all the rooms. About 25 minutes to Great Barrington and close to
Some nice hikes.

Wonderful long stay on great property
We - 4 adults, 2 toddlers - spent 6 weeks at this property in August, and had a wonderful time. The grounds are lovely, with apple and peach trees, a luscious garden, and a trampoline (not shown in listing). We used the fire pit multiple times a week, and the kids loved visiting and feeding the wild cows. It was an amazing property for the kids to run around and explore.
The house itself is large, very comfortable, beautifully built, and unique - with antiques and nicknacks throughout. Robin installed air conditions for us in each bedroom and the living room, which was critical given the heat wave we experienced this summer. The house does not have air conditioning otherwise.
The large living room is a great space for kids to play and everyone to congregate. It has two exercise rings hanging from a beam, which was a surprise but that the kids loved. Note: TV doesn't really work - relies on Wifi which isn't strong in that room.
One surprise to us was that Robin's employee and his family live in the apartment over the garage. This wasn't in the listing information. It was completely fine - we had to be socially distanced from them, but they are truly lovely people and our kids even became "friends" from afar.
Robin was very responsive, including during a tropical storm that knocked out local power, wifi, and water for a few days.

A true gem in the Berkshires
The house is lovely. We were impressed with the fact that nothing creaked despite it being old - it has been completely refurbished and lovingly decorated. It makes you feel at home right away - from the large kitchen, multiple family rooms and solarium. The property is beautifully located beneath the mountain. The cows next door are great to look at. I intend to go back!
