Loved the cozy and spacious house, perfect for groups and families. Retro vibe with modern comfort, great location for beach and trails. Well-equipped kitchen and responsive management.

The place is clean and the neighborhood is quiet. The provided access to the private beach is awesome.

We like to experience Tahoe as if it were not a world class destination with all the trappings of luxury lifestyle but rather as the cozy local getaway it was known for years ago, and to a smaller extent, presently. The Tahoma, Homewood and West Shore areas generally maintain that old Tahoe vibe and we appreciate that this rental is right in the mix of it.
Homewood ski resort (Keep it Local!) is a short 5 minute walk, as is the beautiful waterfront, piers, general store and dining options. We loved our stay, and felt the home was perfect for our group.
Kitchen was spacious and communal with everything you would need. Sleeping rooms were comfortable and clean. I only wish we had more time, but maybe next time we visit.

We go up to Tahoe every summer, but this was our first summer at Retro Home. We were beyond pleased. It was a lovely lay out, plenty of room, several reading nooks, well appointed, super comfortable living room, kitchen table to linger at, even following the meals, all around 5 star experience. Thank you!

We had two families and with young kids sharing this home and it was a lot of fun. The house is well set up and in a great location next to the woods and not too far from the lake. Kitchen, bathrooms & back porch looked recently remodelled which was really nice. I had to talk with the Tahoe Rental Company a couple of times and they were a pleasure to work with. The cleaning service is letting the side down - dishes have been put away dirty and floors not completely clean. Towels & sheets need to be replaced, they are old & thin. The house is that great though, that even with these issiues I'd rent again.

Reviewer Comments:
We have owned or stayed in Chambers or Tahoma for 50 years. When we arrived at this property, my 36 year old son reminded me that we rented this place 29 years ago. Nothing has changed, which is "not a good thing" to quote Martha Stewart. The sheets and towels are worn out. There is too much clutter in the home. One can lose stuff amongst all the doodads. The drapes were falling of the rods in the living room. The kitchen, glassware, dinnerware and tools are old and disorganized. Lots of old spices, salts and herbs left in the cupboards way past their due date. That said, this rental is not cheap, and guests probably expect something better. The retro vibe is fine, but the place needs to be cleaned up. The management company is great and we will use again.

Birthday weekend
Me and my family had an amazing time here. The kids love it in the house very spacious. Got to see a little bear walk passed the back yard. Great place to spend a weekend with family and friends.

We loved this house .It had everything we needed and the property management was great to work with.We had a bear hang around every night and morning and he just hung around so I named him gumpy. We would highly recommend this house.

Spacious and comfortable!
This house was very spacious and located in a quiet neighborhood. Our dog loved running in the small backyard with a fresh foot of snow. We stayed for a weekend wedding held at the West Lake Cafe. It was a great weekend and close walk to the lake.

Nice location
The location of the property was easy to get to, and was also close by to any local shops if we needed something

It was great to stay with friends for a weekend there, just feel like home.

Lumpy beds. Bring TP
Everything was great except for 2 things: the beds were lumpy and they provided only 6 small rolls of TP. For 8 adults for 2 nights, it was not enough!

Reviewer Comments:
Great location and adequately equipped kitchen. The upstairs bedrooms are poorly ventilated and miserably hot. One bed in the upstairs dormitory had a broken slat which made sleeping on it uncomfortable. The carpets were quite dirty. Nice deck recently renewed. Several of us got splinters in our hands from the poorly maintained wooden patio table. BBQ worked. A pile of automotive tires and rims was in the driveway that we had to move for access. Nice large space in the backyard however the lawn was allowed to die and it is now dusty. A minor issue was the Cable TV went bad. Most remotes had no batteries. We didn't fix it.

Quick family get away
Very nice and comfy property close to the beach and hiking trails. Had a great time, home was very spacious, and even had quite an experience with a bear guest as well.

cottage feeling home/ close to the lakes
PROS: location is great, close distance from the lakes, the house gives you a cottage feel, away from the busy city and the house provides plenty of space. The rooms were clean comfortable.
Communication with the rental property was great, very communicative, and checked on you a few times.
Cons: We encounter quite a bit of branches that made it hard to be in the front of the house. The house had an odor that required the doors to be open for some time to let the smell out almost like an enclosed odor. A fee for cleaning is in the price but we had to do laundry before we left which was odd to me since the fee is in place for this.

Great place - great location
This place was like walking into a time capsule. Nostalgia abounds from the shag carpet to the wood panel walls. Like I walked into my grandma's house in 1988. If you're after modern shiny, this ain't it. If you want a cozy house in a great location that's perfect for families, book this place immediately and get away from it all. You'll be happy you did.

Before we scheduled the rental we checked the reviews and a lot of them referred to the perfect "grandma's" house...and they were right. Definitely a retro stay but the house had everything you'd need and plenty more. Games for the kiddos, plenty of space for everyone and internet (spotty at times). We had a great vacation and it was nice coming home to Grandma's house after a good day of skiing.

Perfect location with everything you need!
This property exceeded our expectations. We will definitely be back. It was clean, well stocked and had literally everything we needed. Some properties are missing details like a hand mixer or muffin pans. We had everything. We also didn’t realize that there’s a second entrance to Homewood, so next time we will walk with our kids. We were two quarantine pod families with 4 kids ages 6-11. My only suggestion for people coming needing wifi- bring a Verizon hot spot with you. We had 4 kids on Zoom school and 2 parents on laptops and the wifi bandwidth wasn’t enough (as expected). The Verizon hotspots worked but not the AT&T.

We first booked Retro home for the location but couldn't be more impressed by the property itself and the service of Cindy and her company! The house is wonderful, the pictures don't do it justice and it is much more spacious than we expected. The bedding has been updated since the pics. The front of the house is also a beautiful new blue (even though we also liked the sunny yellow!) We LOVED the trails that are a 2 min walk from the house. We appreciated the privacy of the yard as described. A pleasant surprise was also how stocked the house was - kitchen supplies, sleds, DVDs, books, games, & puzzles. We hadn't put together a puzzle in years and there was something nostalgic about working on a puzzle by the fireplace while it was snowing outside. I'm sure the wagon was meant for summer gear but our 4-year old loved the quick "ride" down to the lake. Lastly, the service from this rental company is unparalleled. Over the years, I've rented 25+ properties around Tahoe, including the weekend we got married here. This is in my top 3 as far as giving me confidence that our family will be taken care of. We felt "at home" and look forward to returning here AND checking out other properties managed by Tahoe Rental Company in the future.

Old house with old stuff. Why did we like it? It’s big so there’s room to spread out, we have dogs, and there’s hiking trails right at the end of the street. When searching for a place we noticed that most living rooms had 1 couch and no other seating which makes no sense for groups. This house has lots of seating. Plus it’s a blast from the past we laughed a lot. The artwork! 😂 The wood deck furniture needs to be tossed it’s so dried out it’s a splinter danger and the cookware should be upgraded.

Great Location
Loved the location and house was cozy. However, refrigerator didn’t work when we arrived and took over 24 hours to get going and cold. Washer/Dryer also didn’t work. Property manager was extremely rude when called to address these issues. Would recommend for a group of friends for a couple nights but don’t expect any of the modern amenities. Beach access was a plus.

Our check in process was fast and easy. The neighborhood and area we stayed was wonderful, it had nice views of the lake. The house comes with beach access to the lake, keep in mind you have to drive to get to the beach access. The house itself was pretty outdated, which we didn’t have a problem with. What we did have issues with was, there were dead flies in the carpet, we killed a small tarantula by the bathroom on the main floor. One of the rooms had three lamps but only one worked, so the room was pretty dark. Overall I would not rent that house again.

Returned this summer for another fantastic week. The house is roomy, comfortable, and well equipped. Easy walk to Homewood and perfect starting point for biking to Sunnyside and Tahoe City. Chamberlands Beach and Chambers Landing Bar/Restaurant did an excellent job of accomodating social distancing, much better than the scary photos we saw of other too-crowded locations.

Rustic and functional home in quiet neighbourhood.
This was the second time I rented this home for a family reunion in early September. It is a large, functional home in a quiet neighbourhood. The back deck had been replaced since last year, which was a plus. We enjoyed the comfort and spaciousness of the home and would certainly rent it again.

I stayed at this house for over 2 weeks. This house is very retro Tahoe which means it’s like grandma’s house from the 60’s. When you walk in, the aroma will remind you of grandma. The interior is classic woody with shag carpet. The deck is great and the yard is brown. There is a wooden swing that last worked on the 80’s. The kitchen is well stocked and sometimes rusty but not organized. Access to Chamberlands Beach was a nice change and good place to get outside. Stay here and you’ll really appreciate your future rentals.
