About this house rental
A labour of love this 2 bedroom apartment is located in the city of Sydney. This home is over 200 years old, renovated from the basement to the roof and other than a few bumps in the night, guests have not encountered too many ghosts . We are well stocked with several varieties of gourmet coffee/teas. There is a large back yard with lounging chairs and a swing. It is a very clean comfortable and warm space. ( air conditioner in the summer and heat pump in the winter) I offer breakfasts during your stay, so please inform me of your choice of eggs & toast or cereal or oatmeal. The space is for 4 and has a comfortable futon that will fold down to accommodate another 2 persons. There is free wifi Netflix and parking is included. Guests are free to snack on any foods items.
I keep an open communication going from the time my guests book. I am available whenever you need any information or have any questions. If the guest wishes to share a chat and a cup of coffee I'm quite open to it. If the guest prefers their privacy that is respected also.

It's a good location for exploring Cape Breton and Sydney.

We stayed coming to a family reunion and only were there to sleep and shower. The place was clean but unfinished in the main bedroom with primer on the walls only and paint on carpets. The other room was finished. Kitchen had countertop unattached I nearly knocked down. Shower is a sit down only as described. Im 5’4 and had to kneel. Great for 8 yr olds to stand to shower. Our bed in the main bedroom was broken and was at a 30 degree angle with a mattress on top of mattress. Bed frame was the wrong size for mattress and broken underneath as we discovered trying to fix it in the middle of the night. The floor was more comfortable. Host provided breakfast items and clean towels and linens. Location is Whitney Pier which should be in the ad.

Excellent accommodation, but the mattress in the main bed is simply unsleepahble for two people because it has far too little support.

We were travelling with 6 well-behaved cats and one dog due to family deathand attempted to book a “pet friendly” location with this host. She contacted us and said that the location we tried to book was not available but offered a different location—a 2700 square-foot home. We asked if it was pet friendly and she told us that there was a dog allergy and that it would be no problem as long as the dog stayed in the “foyer.” When we arrived she told us that her son was allergic to all animals and that they would all have to stay in the foyer. She then told us that her son would have to have access to the foyer all night because he was staying in an RV outside and needed access to the breaker box inside the foyer. There was no lock on the door between foyer and rest of the residence. We were worried about the animals getting out if her son came in through the outside door to the foyer during the night and suggested that he use the patio door, come in through the residence, and access the foyer that way. She refused. We asked if the cats could stay in cement floor bedroom that was beside the entryway/foyer if my daughter used her own bedding. She refused. My daughter slept in the car with the cats because she was worried that they would be let out in the middle of the night. Despite claims of severe allergies, there was a cat play structure in the residence, pet food dishes on the balconies, and cat treats in the kitchen. We carefully cleaned the bedroom and entryway before we left, leaving no trace of any of the animals.
Several days after we left she posted a message in the chat claiming that the animals had urinated and defecated on the the floor and that there were paw prints all over the house. Neither was true. The cats are all litter-box trained and the dog is completely house-trained. The soiled litter and the dog “poop bags” were all disposed of appropriately. Her dishes were not used to feed animals. She billed us an additional large amount for “pet cleanup” even though the cats had spent the night sleeping in the car with my daughter and I had cleaned and washed the floors and wiped down 2 rooms because we were worried about her son’s allergy.
She also made comments on the chat and in person about activities happening inside the entryway/bedroom that she could only have known if she had seen inside. We thought that she must have looked through the windows, however there is a real estate listing for the location listing security cameras

First and foremost, the owner is kind and pleasent to deal with (true Cape Brettoner). This is a lovely little home in the Whitney Pier area of Sydney, a few minutes drive to city center. As we were traveling the extended area it was a perfect starting point each day. If you are looking to walk around Sydney you may want to look downtown (expect to pay a much more), however it wasn't that far to drive and park when we did go to the pier and casino. Again this upper section of the house is a great place to end your day and relax, perfect for 3-4 people as it is not large but comfortable.
The not so good... expect to have a bath as the shower is next to the slope of the roof, though I did shower while kneeling a couple of times. That was all I could complain about, it really was perfect for our needs and the price was right!

Belle accueil, il y avait tout le nécessaire pour le dejeuner dans le frigo à notre arrivée.Petit bémol ; il est difficile de prendre notre douche, car le plafond est très bas et en pente.

If you are simply looking for a comfortable bed in Spartan surroundings, in an old neighborhood, you will find this crash pad to be quite adequate. And it was certainly affordable. The futon in the living room can serve to sleep maybe one or two adults, but I think that overall, the space is adequate for 2 adults.
This apartment has a lot of potential, once the remodeling is completed. We were able to prepare simple meals in the kitchen, which was equipped with the very basics and had a lovely view of Sydney harbor. Downtown Sydney is very quaint, and not too far from this location. Elizabeth is delightful to work with.

Stayed for a few nights and had a great time. The owner was very helpful and kind. Overall the apartment was great, very clean and comfortable. There were a couple of small things that bring this to a four star review, like a lack of head room in the shower (you are better off just having a bath), and a door at the top of the stairs to the apartment would be nice. Otherwise no complaints, and would definitely stay again if we are back in the area!
