Casa Cielo is a unique experience that typifies Costa Rica's laidback lifestyle and joy of the environment. We stayed 2 weeks and were awakened every morning by a pair of the local blue jays banging on the windows. We were visited by a troupe of Capuchin monkeys, a bold, red, tufted ear squirrel and a variety of birds.
A gecko and baby iguana were in the bedroom- never caused problems, it was cool.
Any organic food remains (apple cores, banana peels, watermelon rinds) were thrown out the window (as far as you can) for the wildlife.
The view from balcony is magnificent, looking out over the forest and hills.
One thing that took some getting used to was their septic system (same throughout the country, wherever we went) you DO NOT put ANYTHING- including toilet paper in the toilet. There is a small wastebasket provided for all TP, etc.
If you want to get away from hotels and live more in line with the locals (yet still feel a bit special) THIS is the place to do it! Not only would I recommend it to others, I would cheerfully stay there again!

One of the most beautiful places I have ever stayed. The house is rustic and a little rough around the edges but that is all accounted for in the price and clear in the listing. The village of Santa Elena is close by and great for dining and shopping. Just string the hammock up on the porch and relax.

The chalet was brilliant. A great space for the whole family, with amazing views. The hosts communicated brilliantly and we had a great time.
The view is honestly just amazing and waking up to it on the mornings we're beautiful.
Great facilities too with a kitchen stocked with equipment and some coffee and bits provided.
Thanks for a great stay!

This property has the view !! Don't expect a completely bug-free room. All basic necessities are taken care of.
It is not a resort but if you are looking for a simple, peaceful stay with great views, this is it.

Beautiful views alright place
The views are great , place is cool , not as clean as I’d like it, the shower wasn’t clean when I arrived . A lot of cookware wasn’t clean. Hot water wasn’t great, the shower was not the nicest and kind of dark and not much light. I tried to use the tub but couldn’t manage to get much lukewarm water to fill a few inches and gave up. The fridge didn’t really get cold. The view from the balcony is really beautiful. Some improvements could make it really nice. It’s nice for some people, but personally I’d like a little nicer place and feel it was overpriced. It just felt like it needed a really good cleaning. I feel bad being honest and I appreciate the stay but I’d prefer a newer place for my next stay or at least a cleaner one.

What an amazing view!
We had a wonderful stay in Monteverde! The view is truly magnificent. We enjoyed watching the clouds roll in each day, capuchin monkeys playing in the trees nearby, howler monkeys in the distance, and so many birds soaring by. We also got to enjoy a delicious home cooked meal from Giselle.

Million Dollar Views
Unbelievably beautiful views. This cabin has what you need to experience Monteverde. It's a cabin, so be prepared for a bit more rustic accommodations.

Terrific views and privacy
This cabin is quite unique. The open views of this surrounding hills from the porch are remarkable. Very good value considering it has hot water and propane for cooking. It is about a 10 minute drive into Santa Elena or Monteverde. The place is a bit dank and musty, but probably to be expected considering it is in the rainforest.

Cute cabin with incredible views of the stars and the mountains
Such a cute cabin with incredible views of the stars and the mountains! The balcony off the second floor is particularly wonderful, with a place for you to hang a hammock and great views and great opportunities to see birds. It feels like you are all by yourself in the mountains but is only about 8 minutes away from many restaurants and supermarkets. The hosts are incredibly kind and very communicative. We would absolutely recommend!

This is a lovely place to stay, away from the hustle and bustle of Monteverde. It is a relatively simple, but charming, A frame cabin. But honestly, stay here so Giselle can cook for you. Seriously, the BEST Costa Rican food I have ever had. Probably the best food I had on my trip.

A BILLION DOLLAR VIEW!!
I have traveled all over the world and I have never had a view like this ever! Not only are the Host super attentive they are very patient with a guest like me that ask a million questions! It is only 1.8km to Monteverde and extremely quiet. I have never seen sunsets like they have there...you won't believe your luck! The cabin is a high end glamping but has all the comforts you need. Beautifully birds come near the window and the extremely friendly little dogs come to greet you wagging their tails and are respectful and quiet. The house is close to everything and the owners provide a very well layed out map of exactly where everything is so tale a picture of it with your phone while you go on your adventures to find everything easily and be home before sunset if possible to watch the glorious breath taking view! BTW you can even see Golpho De Nicoya from there too if clear. We will be back!! PS...if you do use the the washing machine read the instructions first they are very straight forward but bring a few extra clothes pins to hang your wash outside. Your clothes will smell lovely!! Always remember to turn off the hot water when done and after showering to save energy and consider the environment. CLG

Beautiful view, excellent location for Monte Verde
We loved our three night stay at La Lindora. The view from this cabin is amazing morning, noon and night. The kitchen is adequately stocked and there are good restaurants nearby. Monte Verde is a short drive away. We loved just being at the place and looking out over the expanse of the valley, and watching birds come and go from the porch. We had dinner prepared and delivered from Giselle, as soon as we arrived ( ordered ahead of time) which was so heartwarming and delicious to start our trip. Highly recommend this and any outings provided by Stuart !! Thank you Stuart for being our friend and guide. Absolutely not to miss is a tortilla making and coffee tour with Stuart! Our guide in Monte Verde was so knowledgeable and we enjoyed the tour very much. Do pay attention to what is falling around you when looking high in the trees at howler monkeys! We would absolutely come here again when we have the chance. I recommend a head light or something for navigating from the parking spot down to the house. We loved our stay.

Do NOT pass up the chance to get breakfast from Giselle. We will dearly miss her cooking. And Stuart was inCREDIBLY helpful.

Incredible views. Great communication. Very private. Casa Cielo is a soulful cabin that is lovingly built and carefully maintained. Luxurious it is not, but we were perfectly comfortable there. Take advantage of the meal offerings and tour of the Sustainability Center.

Amazing Experience!
Our family had an amazing experience at Casa Cielo! The views were absolutely breathtaking and the sunsets from the balcony were beautiful! We saw many birds including toucans and hummingbirds daily. The restaurants in Santa Elena and Monteverde were all delicious and we look forward to returning! Veronica and Stuart were great! If your looking for a quiet, peaceful, relaxing and genuine Costa Rican experience in the mountains of Monteverde we highly recommend Casa Cielo! An amazing experience!

Best sunset views ever
If you are prepared for a touch of glamping and a few insect intruders, Casa Cielo is a delight. We arrived just at dark on our first day and had arranged to have a hearty and delicious home-cooked meal delivered by the caretaker, Giselle. The Casa is a small two-story cabin with the most glorious views from the upstairs balcony. We stayed three nights and made sure to return before dark each day to watch the spectacular sunsets, and we also enjoyed watching the cloud formations move through the sky throughout the day as well as the occasional bird flying right by our window, including a flock of parrots and even a glimpse of a toucan. It’s good to know that the toilet is on the first floor and the stairs to the upstairs bedroom are a bit steep, which can make navigating in the middle night difficult. Also the upstairs bed is a full (double) and was not big enough for my 6’5” husband and I to comfortably share. But the location is great if you have a car - the town of Santa Elena is just 10 minutes up the road with good restaurants and a grocery store, and there are lots of good hiking and attractions not far beyond. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

We really enjoyed our stay in Casa Cielo. The house was cozy and totally met our needs. We enjoyed our hikes on the trails on the property and the view of the mountains throughout the day. It was a great home base for touring the Monteverde area. The home was cleaned and well kept, but it is located in the mountains, so expect insects (especially ants) to be able to find their way in.We especially loved the meals from Giselle. It was amazing and delicious to experience real Costa Rican cooking, and our kids loved the visits from her dogs. The hosts were very responsive to our needs and the few questions we had while we were there. Directions and check-in details were easy to follow, and everything went smoothly when we arrived. We also had to reschedule our stay twice due to COVID, and they were more than accommodating to our changes. The kitchen was well-stocked with appliances, but didn't have a large number of dishes, although this seemed appropriate for the size of the house. There is no microwave.Overall, we really enjoyed our stay and would stay again if we are ever back in the area.

Could've Stayed a Lifetime!
This place is incredible. My husband and I spent three nights here and we were very impressed! The house and the views off of the balcony are even more beautiful than the photos listed. We did explore the area quite a bit, but made it a point to be back to the house for the sunset every night (you don't want to miss it!) We also enjoyed all of the toucan and other bird sightings. The town of Santa Elena is just up the road, so groceries, restaurants, and things to do are just minutes away. The Horseback ride to the Hot Springs was only 0.7 kilometers away, and we would highly recommend that too, if you end up staying here. If you're looking for a gorgeous, very private, dreamy place to enjoy nature and the beauty of the cloud forest, this is the place for you! The only complaint I can think of is that it was hard to leave when it was time to go home. 10/10 recommend!

Beautiful view
We enjoyed our stay immensely even though we had some difficulties with hot water, and ran out of propane. Veronica was responsive when we let her know about these problems, which were remedied once we were able to contact her, which was difficult without internet or phone (there were apparently some problems due to recently severed power lines); she and her husband are exceptionally nice people, and are doing important work for Costa Rica with the proceeds from this rental. We saw Tucans from the upper balcony and about the prettiest sunset we have ever seen.

Wonderful!
We truly enjoyed our stay at this beautiful property - the views were gorgeous, the house had all the amenities we needed and helpful notes to explain the property. A true gem in Monteverde. Veronica was a terrific host and we loved that this helped support local social justice and sustainability causes!

Au naturale cabin
We had a wonderful stay at Casa Cielo. The best thing about the property was its beautiful natural surroundings and amazing views. Every morning you are greeted by a beautiful sunrise overlooking the cloud forest. You hear so many different birds and wild life. Such a welcome change from a city environment.
Staying at the property also means supporting the sustainability center, which is doing great work in environmental conservation and cooperation.
The location provided easy access to monte verde and surrounding towns.

Monteverde is magical
I wish we had more time to spend there, but what a nice oasis to come home to after trekking the hills all day! The view rivals all the expensive hotels in the area. I was glad to know that staying there might help in some small way support the efforts to preserve habitat in the area. Definitely use the GPS coordinates to find it. Even though it is close to the road, we never would have found it without them.

Veronica and her sustainability center are doing great things for the community! We showed up to a free salsa lesson, and our kids joined in immediately. Happy that our stay supports a great cause! The location is close to everything and the view is unmatched!

Breathtaking location, out of the beaten path, reconnect with nature
As all of the area between Santa Elena and Guacimal further South, the view is spectacular, almost knee weakening!! The house is perched on a cliff, from where you can see miles around. We arrived later than expected at this location so we barely made it before Sunset. We were there during a very windy period, so at first, we were a little worried. But the house is solid. Built on two storeys, we had room to accomodate all 5 of us. My teenager slept on the living room/kitchen futon, and my two youngest, my husband and myself on the second floor, as there was a queen size bed and an extra queen size mattress which we settled on the floor. It is well equiped, although not enough bowls for all 5. Everyting was clean. Lots of daylight coming in, and plenty of lights in the evening. It was super cozy, with warm blankets. Lots of little help notes everywhere, which were super practical. And although you feel like you are miles from civilisation, internet worked perfectly. You also have a phone line, which was very useful to contact the owner, Veronica. She was extremely helpful, attentive and generous. It never seemed like we were bothering her, although she is such a busy person. Unfortunately, we did not have the opportunity to eat a home cooked meal by the nexdoor neighbour as she was away during our stay. But we had everything we needed to cook, pots and pans, gas stove and fridge. Grocery store in Santa Elena was a short 7 minutes drive. We were even able to wash our clothes, although the spinner was broken. We still managed. My kids loved that there were games to play with, and we loved the fact that there was no TV. Lots of hot water for the shower, and a little less hot for the tub, but my kids enjoyed it anyway. We even got to make a little lemonade with a citrus fruit we picked right from the trails below. I recommend you bring eco-friendly soaps and shampoo, to preserve Veronica's environment. We loved making our coffee from the traditional coffee maker. The only downside for us was the fact that one of my sons got sick during the night from tourista/stomach flu, so we were busy cleaning up after him, and had a hard time sleeping because of the Wind. Good thing we had a washer! On our last day, we visited the sustainability center where the owner works. She graciously showed us around and explained to us the purpose of her work. We really enjoyed it and we were also invited to visit her ranch, and swim in the river below. Great CRexperience

Lovely spot with great views and very helpful hosts
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Casa Cielo. The house is in a beautiful location and we loved waking up to the sound of howler monkeys, seeing toucans from the balcony, and watching the sunset. Veronica was extremely helpful with arranging tours and telling us which places were best to visit since we had only a few days. We also enjoyed having a traditional Costa Rican breakfast cooked for us by the neighbor Gisele on our first morning there. I will say the house was challenging to find. We were arriving in the dark, which I do not recommend, but even had it been daylight I think a sign that is visible from the road with the name of the house on it would be a really great addition. Again, we loved our time here and the house was clean and in a good location. Thank you Veronica for a great stay in Monteverde!
