About this cottage rental
As a 26 year homeowner on nearby Elbow Cay, I always had a special feeling about Man O War Cay. After selling my Elbow Cay home in 2009, I decided despite advancing age, that I wanted to buy a cottage on MOW. We found one for sale called 'Low Overhead' and it had recently been renovated down to the studs. We figured it had been named 'Low Overhead' to emphasize that it would be inexpensive to maintain. It's pale yellow siding, blue metal roof, and white picket fence captivated us. When we arrived to see it, we were very surprised to find that the ceiling height was 6'2" hence the real 'Low Overhead'. We bought it anyway and re-named it 'Lost and Found' and started renovations with our caretaker, Glenn Albury, doing the work. We took out the second floor, put in beams to stiffen the cottage, and added a tongue and groove ceiling, thus creating a wide open cathedral ceiling. We enlarged a storage room and made it into the master bedroom, a laundry room, and a bathroom with a large tiled shower. We bought all new furniture, mattresses, bedding, linens, and a flat screen smart TV for the living room. All rooms are tiled and have split air conditioning units. We have cable TV with sports channels and good internet service. The kitchen is very well equipped with a dishwasher, microwave oven, coffee maker, blender and refrigerator. The house has its own standby generator. Our caretakers will see that there is fuel in the generator. Since fuel costs $6 a gallon, we ask that you use the generator only when you are at the house. There is a notebook in the TV cabinet that explains how things work in the house, including the generator. We have a Paulie's Island rope hammock under the shade of our beautiful palm tree in the back yard. Cart and boat rentals are available.
ALL ABOUT MOW
A clean and industrious island, we don't even let the garbage stay on the island. Historically the boat building capital of the Bahamas . The harbour front is very interesting with marine businesses and workshops open to the street. The local people are religious, hard working, straight forward, and friendly. The whole atmosphere reminds one of life 50 years ago. After a day or two of exploring, you'll be wishing you lived here. Naturally the biggest attractions are the beaches (1/4 mile from cottage) and the clearest water you will ever see. These beaches run almost the whole length of the island and with their white sand, are drop dead gorgeous. Once out of the village, the roads are sand as you wind your way past beautiful estates, always with a view of the water. This is the King's Highway, barely wide enough for 2 golf carts to pass. Mid island you come to the 'Low Spot' where the island is about 30 yards wide. There is a beautiful beach on the calm side (Sea of Abaco), and the locals have built a gazebo there so that you can get out of the sun or have a picnic. It is highly recommended that you rent a boat and explore the Sea of Abaco which is protected and very interesting.
STORES AND SHOPS---- MOW Grocery on the upper street has a complete stock of groceries and sundries. In addition the store usually has some baked snacks made by the local ladies. Russell's little store sells groceries and an ever changing selection of local baked and cooked foods. Shop at Joe's Studio for hats, T shirts, clothing, books (many Bahamian), household furnishings and gifts. A must see is the Sail Shop on the harbor at the edge of the village. Their canvas luggage, bags, and purses with the MOW logo are fabulous and guaranteed for life. The MOW Marina property is now being rebuilt. The 2 main docks are done and gas and diesel are being sold for boats and golf carts. The buildings are to include a gift shop, restrooms, and restaurant which will be a recreation of the popular "Dock and Dine" It should be open by December 2024.
RESTAURANTS AND FOOD
MOW is a dry island and spirits cannot be purchased here. You can, however, purchase them in Marsh Harbour or on other islands. The very popular Hibiscus Restaurant is closed but we hope it will re-open in the future. Local ladies advertise take away lunches and dinners cooked at home. They bake wonderful Bahamian bread, pies and cinnamon rolls. Charmaine will help you download "MOW Eats" on What's App to see what is available during your stay. There is a coffee shop behind the museum with wonderful pastries and breakfast sandwiches. Russell's little store also cooks things for take away. There is now the Snacky Shack which serves ice cream, sundaes, and milk shakes. They are now serving various foods (hamburgers, hot dogs, conch fritters, etc).
TWO OF OUR FAVORITE THINGS TO DO ON MOW
1. Take your rental boat in the late afternoon or evening, with drinks and snacks of course, and slowly cruise the harbour.
2. After dinner have ice cream at the Snacky Shack. Interesting because many local families come down with kids in tow and its fun to listen and talk.
WHAT TO DO NEARBY
Explore the Sea of Abaco in your rental boat. It is about 10 to 15' deep with very few dangers. The clarity of the water will quickly help you pick out shallow areas. Heading north there are many small islands at the edge of the ocean. The last one before Scotland Cay has a natural hot tub. Anchor off the beach at low to mid tide and you will find the pool at the rocks, at the edge of the ocean. At high tide, seawater comes into the sand bottom pool and, as the tide lowers, is captured and heated by the sun. What a wonderful place! Next north is Scotland Cay, a private island. At the north end is a lagoon which looks like the South Seas. Wonderful to anchor and swim. Just trim your motor and glide over the shallow bar. Next is Guana Cay with an interesting village and several restaurants. Guana is home to Nipper's, a very popular oceanfront bar and restaurant with 2 swimming pools, and everyone dances to both American and calypso music. Their Sunday brunch featuring wild boar is well attended. A new addition is the wonderful Grabber's Bar and Grill. Big open air bar, swimming pool, their own docks, music, good food and a happy atmosphere. Near the north end is Baker's Bay, a new resort for the rich and famous. Go around the north end of the island and you will experience the most beautiful beach in the world. Stay between the beach and the reef. On a calm day you can venture to Green Turtle Cay, a most interesting island. Explore the village and then motor around to White Sound and have lunch at the G.T. Club or the Bluff house. There is much to see here and I've just skimmed the surface. A reef runs the whole oceanside of these islands for those who like to snorkel or dive. Also visit Treasure Cay with its fabulous beach and marina with restaurant and swimming pool. Going south from MOW, the next island is Elbow Cay and its village of Hope Town, famous for its red and white striped lighthouse. Very interesting village with restaurants, shops, art galleries, etc. Take your boat right up to your table at Cap'n Jacks. The Hope Town Inn and Marina is wonderful with great atmosphere (marina, swimming pool, handsome bar and restaurant) About 1 mile south of Hope Town is Firefly Resort. Beautiful open air dining. Try their lobster fritters. Down in White Sound is the Abaco Inn with swimming pool on the ocean and good food. Also in White Sound is Sea Spray Resort. Sea Spray suffered hurricane damage but docks have been rebuilt and it should open shortly. South end of island is Tahiti Beach a great spot for a swim. Further south is Lubbers Quarters Cay. Continuing south is Tilloo Cay banks, a shallow area for swimming. Next are the Pelican Cays. Anchor off and you'll think you are in the South Seas. To the west is Sandy Cay, a national underwater park, with an extensive reef within the Sea of Abaco and has moorings. Further south past Lynyard Cay (nice beaches) is Little Harbour, the southern end of the Sea of Abaco. Home of the Johnson family - artists and famous for their sculptures. Proceeded by his father Randy, Pete carries on the family tradition. Have lunch at his wreck of a bar and grill and visit the gallery. These are just the highlights of the Sea of Abaco. A word about the local hotels. You are welcome to visit and feel free to use their pools. They just hope you will buy a drink or have a meal. In my opinion there is no other place like this.
POST DORIAN UPDATE
Lost & Found escaped the hurricane with very little damage. Our wonderful caretakers, Charmaine and Glenn Albury were not so lucky and repaired their house while living in Lost & Found. Now back at their home, Glenn has done the necessary repairs for us. The house exterior has been re-painted. Thankfully, the interior was not damaged at all. Our shed out back flew off to parts unknown and Glenn has built a new shed attached to the back of the house. The boat dock we rented was destroyed and is now rebuilt so you can leave your boat there. The main public dock has been repaired and enlarged and has a gazebo. As far as the island is concerned, the vegetation is green, the sea is still blue, and the weather is great. Terrific progress has been made with all the newly repaired and re-painted buildings. Electricity from Marsh Harbour has been restored and the town now also has it's own large generator. Cable TV and internet is back and as good as ever. The Sail Shop is open so their wonderful bags are available. The Clinic with resident nurse, much better is almost done. All the local churches have been repaired. The iconic gazebo at the Low Spot has been rebuilt and all the roads to the north end have been repaired. Sadly, the MOW Marina and Dock & Dine restaurant were destroyed, but docks are rebuilt and the restaurant is coming soon.. They sell fuel at the dock and in their drive. The very industrious local people rely on their faith and their own hands to restore the island to the place we all love.

Above, we really enjoyed meeting the local folks. Location right by the island grocery and coffee shop—also ice cream shop and hardware store nearby. We enjoyed the coral reefs, snorkeling, spear fishing and finding conch shells. Three nice churches on the island. The beds were comfortable and we loved the amazing kitchen, preparing fish every evening.

This was the perfect home for what we needed! My wife, sister and her husband all stayed at the home and it was the perfect amount of space for 4 adults. The pictures and description are spot on! We had friends in other homes on MOW that we also spent time with. We will be back!

We wanted a very quiet and comfortable accommodation for a couple of weeks . We have visited Man of War three times before and are quite familiar with the island and with your cottage. It was comfortable and quite adequate for our needs . My only comment negatively would be the lack of lounges or fold up lawn chairs that can be taken to the beach and a good interior clean up including cupboards.

The cottage is very comfortable and the kitchen is well stocked with pans and dishes. The VRBO pics tell an accurate story of what the cottage looks like.
Our hosts - Charmaine and Glenn - were very fun and helpful during our stay and they made getting to know the island easy. The location of the cottage is in the heart of the Man o War settlement, which makes walking around a breeze. Don't miss the museum and coffee shop, and Russells for some very good baked goods and meals. Thanks to all on Man o War - especially Charmaine and Glenn. You made our stay so special.

Our stay was amazing even with a couple of rainy days (funny how things always seem to work out, especially on MOW). Our hosts were quite gracious, kind, and very helpful. We appreciate all they did for us. The waters around MOW are truly WOW. Lost and Found is exactly what we needed and the owner was right, we weren’t there long enough. We look forward to a return visit.

Close to everything in settlement. Everything was as described and we easily used generator when island had rolling blackouts during 2 days of our stay. If both bedrooms had Queen beds it would be great for 2 couples. We got golf cart and were able to go all over the island with our friends he. Would love to build deck so you could have cocktails looking over harbor otherwise not much of a view . Great 7 day intro to MOW.

Man O War Cay is a very unique community. People are friendly and helpful. All the beaches are lovely and practically deserted. We did not rent a golf cart which is the mode of transportation on the cay and just walked everywhere. We did rent a boat to explore the other cays.
Lost and Found is ideally located in the settlement. The cottage was as presented online and met our expectations. We enjoyed the fully equipped kitchen (no main restaurant on this cay) , cleanliness, and overall condition.

We had a great stay! The cottage was clean, comfortable and the AC was nice and cold. SUPER convenient to the grocery store, hardware store and boat dock. Would not hesitate to return. Thanks Richard!

We took the G and L ferry to MOW and were greeted by are Charmaine and Glen, our caretakers. Lost and Found was just how we remembered it. The AC is cold, the beds are comfortable, the kitchen is well equipped and the grocery store is next door. Glenn showed us how to use the whole home generator in case the power went off. The owner let us use his slip for our rental boat and it was just a short walk to the dock. We went on our daily adventures and was pleased to see that the people of the Abacos are hard at work rebuilding. We had a great time and as usual the people are very friendly. The Albury Sail shop is up and running, the grocery store is well stocked, and the power grid is stable, so go to Man O War Cay and visit your old friends or make some new ones!!

Enjoyed the lost and found
Very close to the public dock,
Directly behind the grocery store, so able to get groceries easily.
Could easily not use a golf cart if you don’t need to go elsewhere on the island.
AC was very cold.
Would stay here agai.

Location, location, location!
Great stay for 1 1/2 weeks. Cottage is perfect for me, mom & dad. Great central location near the boat dock which we utilized for 6 days. Also a close walk to the G&L ferry. Groceries and wonderful coffee shop right up the block. MOW is our favorite island in the Abacos - just our cup of tea - easy, quiet, quaint and of course beautiful. Miss the “low place” already.

Relaxing and Beautiful
This is the best place to lay back, leave your fancy clothes home, and enjoy yourself. This adorable cottage is well located so that it is easy to enjoy this quaint island town. The cottage is well equipped with everything you need. We loved having the grocery store and coffee shop right by us. We ordered a lemon meringue pie from Russell's. So good!! We did rent a golf cart to go to our favorite swimming place but you can easily walk it. We enjoyed getting to know the people and joined them at church several times. This is our second stay at Lost and Found and hope to visit again. The host was very good at communicating and the on island caretakers, Charmaine and Glenn, we very attentive. Thanks to everyone that may our stay at Man O War wonderful!!!

Man O War Loyalist Cottage
What a great place to visit!! Lost and Found is a very comfortable, clean, and easy place to stay. The location, right in the heart of the settlement, makes boating, groceries, beaches, and the fascinating history of Man O War right next door. The local residents are kind, very helpful, and patient. Man O War has made a remarkable recovery from Dorian, and the future will bring even more amenities to the island as they continue to rebuild. Thanks to Dick, Glenn and Charmaine, Dave and Micah from Conch Pearl boat rentals, and especially to the ladies from MOW Grocery for taking care of me!!

Great stay, great rental.
Our group of 3 adults loved our stay at Lost and Found. We were met at the new MOW G&L Ferry dock by the very personable caretaker, Charmaine. Charmaine helped get us settled in and throughout our stay, was available when we had additional questions. We also had a chance to meet Glenn when the island had a little electrical outage but the generator at Lost and Found was easily started and kept everything running as usual (power was restored within a couple of hours). All 3 of us enjoyed our stay and would stay again. The house feels homey and the central location on a side road is great. Thanks Charmaine, Glenn and Dick for a wonderful trip!

Perfect
This is the second year in a row we have booked here, and hope to for many more years ahead.
We are a family of four with two children, and it suited us perfectly. It is interesting that such a small space feels so spacious. The house is so well designed that even after 8 days, we did not feel cramped or crowded. It’s clear the house is meant to be lived in as it has all the random things you need on a daily basis but never think to pack, much less find in a vacation home (an umbrella, the one off kitchen utensil you have in the drawer at home, that one weird pan that is the perfect size for what you needed). The location is incredibly convenient- it’s like living in the center of downtown, if there was a down town, because everything is a two minute walk away, and the only traffic noise you hear is the one or two golf carts cruising the island at 8 pm.
It’s clean, not just tidy (there is a difference). And somehow, I have never seen a bug inside the house. This is no mean feat in the islands, and it is especially important if you have ever had the misfortune to run across a palmetto bug. (Do not look it up if you are from the North. Trust me)
Overall, it is our dream house. If you book this property, which honestly, you just should, please just make sure to leave a week open sometime in summer so our family can book there in 2020.

Our family of 4 loved this cottage. Very welcoming & comfortable. It had everything we needed and we looked forward to returning to it each night after boating. The use of the golf cart allowed us to explore the island and was very convenient!

A perfect stay in a perfect little house.
This house has everything, is spotless, and is close to all the important sites on Man O War Cay! The beds are comfortsble and the linens crisp. There's a clothesline for drying your swimsuits and towels. The kitchen is very well equipped and there is a Weber charcoal grill for your use. The house is sunny and warm and the AC units are in good working order. There is a generator which starts with a simple push of a button, if needed.
The owner is responsive and very helpful. The caretakers of the property know the building very well and are also available at any time of the day or night (thankfully we didn't need them) as they live nearby. This is a wonderfully renovated cottage with a lot of character. Highly recommended!

Relax - no worries, no hurries.
The cottage is beautiful. Man O War is for people who want to get away and just relax. Everything you need is provided.
The cottage is in the center of the settlement, the grocery is next door, get the local eggs. The golf cart provided gets you to the beach at The Narrows - the best place to view the sunset. (Probably the sunrise as well, but we were on vacation — slept in. )
We rented a boat one day and did a little island hopping.
You’ll feel at home. Kitchen is well equipped, cable TV (if you need a break from the beach) and washer/dryer (so, you don’t have to pack much).
Go to the large grocery (and liquor store, if your so inclined) in Marsh Harbour before you ferry over to Man O War. The MOW grocery has the things you forgot.
If you don’t want to cook, there are restaurants on MOW. We went to both of them. Unhurried service, pricey with average food.
I recommend this cottage.

Great Little Cottage
Key to this place is location, location, location. In the middle of Man-O-War. No it is not on a beach. But beaches are a short walk away. It is behind the grocery store. Near The Hibiscus Cafe (a must-frequent-many-times restaurant). Around the corner (I mean maybe 200ft) from the museum where morning coffee and cinnamon rolls are a must. A golf cart is available, but we hardly ever used it, because we walked almost everywhere.
The cottage itself was very well equipped and served us very. It comes with a backup generator that we used for less than an hour (to heat up our Hibuscus leftovers) when there was an Abocos-wide power outage.
The owner was very helpful with answering questions before we got there. Once there, the caretakers, Charmaine and Glenn, were very helpful and sociable.
This served the two us so very well. Exactly what we needed for a brief (too brief) getaway.

Perfect spot for a true Bahamian experience!
Clean, safe, fully equipped kitchen, in the middle of everything and great care-takers too! Wi-Fi worked perfectly. It was nice to have the two rooms on opposite sides of the cottage, separated by the kitchen and living area. You can walk to everything that you need but the golf cart is a nice extra to have in order to venture to the “The Low Place.” I left my heart in MOW. Thanks for having us! I can’t wait to return!

So beautiful and so clean.
This house is set up so nicely. Great privacy with the bedrooms being on separate ends of the house. Beautiful decore and super clean. And the golf cart is included in the price! Man-O-War is the prettiest island in the Abacos.

Awesome people. Very well stocked, great dock, golf cart made it easy to go to north side beaches.
Great “care takers”. Picked us up from ferry and left us golf cart. All as advertised. Kitchen well equipted, washer dryer, dock, golf cart, ac all excellent.

Cozy, Well Equipped, Golf Cart a PLUS
Modern, updated, CLEAN, and comfortable. Had everything needed for a stay - well equipped kitchen, all bedding, towels, etc. Only thing we had to supply was food, disposables and ourselves. Charcoal grill makes a mean crawfish and steak dinner. Freezer has lots of ice.
Char and Glen are fantastic. Explained all info and were there when you need them. They even explained how to "survive" on the island (places to eat, where to have fun, etc).
Be open on your visit and greet every person you meet with a smile and you will be amazed at what it yields. Could not have asked for a better vacation. Thanks so much Dick for designing such a fantastic retreat.

House was clean and well appointed. Right next to the grocery store and close to 2 Great Churches
We really liked our stay at lost and found. The fact that there were two bedrooms with two bathrooms and a washer and dryer plus us a golf cart to use made this a wonderful choice for me and my wife and two daughters. After our stay I can see why this property gets such good reviews. I want to also mention that Man O War Cay is populated by genuinely kind, helpful and loving people. We all really enjoyed our house but most importantly we really loved the people of Man O War Cay ! This wonderful house is on a special little island and I highly recommend it !
