This rustic, shingle-sided cottage is one of the last of its kind in Leland. The beach is literally out the back door and Lake Michigan is a constant presence. Nearly all the rooms, including both the dining room and the deck where we take our meals, overlook it. No matter the weather, you'll hear the waves and sometimes the wind in the surrounding pines.
With five bedrooms — three in the main house and two in "the annex" just across the deck from the main house — as many as 8 adults can sleep comfortably. There are two-and-a-half baths, with a clawfoot tub in the main house and a shower in the annex. There are canoes, kayaks and bicycles for your use and we provide linen and towels, so there’s no need to bring those.

We hade another great week, with beautiful balmy weather. Time on the beach, walking into town, the pleasant post-Labor Day time with fewer people in Leland. The cottage is always a great touchstone to return to--authentically summer cottage, the Leland of my childhood.

Leland is great. Lake Michigan is beautiful. And Pineacres is absolutely the best!

We love everything about Pineacres and can’t wait to hopefully return next year. Thank you Mandy and family for sharing this peace of paradise with us.

The most beautiful beach, the best location. So much to do. From Pineacres it's an easy walk to the Village of Leland, where you can get fish from Carlson's fresh off the boat, pick up some M Salt from the Mercantile, and enjoy a Moomers' ice cream cone while you check out the boats at the marina. The trail to Pyramid Point, which offers a spectacular view of Sleeping Bear dunes, the Manitou Islands, and our magnificent Lake Michigan, is only a short drive away. And there's the Mission Peninsula cutting through Grand Traverse Bay, where you can stop at a winery or two and have a fish taco for lunch. Best of all are days at the cottage, on the beach with family and friends, the canoes in the water, stones at the shoreline waiting to be collected, kids splashing in the waves, and the sun slowly sinking in the west. Heaven.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Pine Acres! We hope to be back next year!

Every year, my friends and family vacation together in northern Michigan and this year was our first stay at Mandy's cottage. Leland and the surrounding area are very charming and beautiful. The cottage is uniquely historical, full of lovely antiques and interesting creative art items all about. Creative people have lived here in the past and you can see there have been many good family times had. The location is quite private as it is tucked hidden in the woods yet it still a short walk to downtown Leland, which provides a convenient mixture of experiences. I think my favorite part of staying here was falling asleep to the sound of Lake Michigan waves and tree breezes! So special and totally relaxing.

Another wonderful week at a cottage on Lake Michigan with deep family connections. We look forward every year to this chance to unwind and recenter ourselves. The cottage is a perfect snapshot of life 50+ years ago. Great location and easy access to the beach.

Simply stated, Pineacres is the best kept secret on VRBO!!!

The view from the beach at Pineacres is magical: Lake Michigan in all its moods, Pyramid Point and Sleeping Bear Dunes to the south, North and South Manitou directly west, and the village of Leland to the north. I carry it with me all year long.

It gets better every year, my family says. They are so right! This year was devoted to the lake: learning how to sail the sunfish, canoeing up to Leland for ice cream, taking the little ones out in the rowboat, trying out the kayaks, jumping the waves, and, of course, watching the sunsets and seeing the light slowly fading in the sky until darkness came. A special bonus: Fourth of July fireworks. A complete necessity: walking the beach to find just that perfect stone to add to our collection. We can't wait till next time.

Our family had a wonderful time amidst the precious family heirlooms and pines at the rustic Pineacres cottage. We thoroughly enjoyed canoeing and kayaking mighty Lake MI while searching for Petoskey stones and Leland Blues. A treasure for sure!!

We embraced the quiet that came with no internet or television; and as a result rediscovered the simple pleasures of reading, listening to music or just "being".
It was everything, and so much more, than we had hoped.
Pineacres is a gem, and we are so grateful to Mandy for saying "yes" and retaining all of it's original charm and beauty.

Although we didn't luck out with June weather, we did luck out with this magical cabin on the lake. The views of the lake are incredible, and the beach access is so special (the beach is huge this year!). The cabin itself is rustic and cozy, and you can tell immediately upon walking in how well-loved and what a special place it is. We stayed cozy and warm using the wonderful fireplace, and our kids absolutely loved reading the children's books around the cabin. We hope to return to enjoy more beach time and more deck dinners during better weather. Thank you for sharing your wonderful get-away with our family!

We had extreme wind and rain and dis not see the sun until our last day! Yet the cottage stayed cozy, the two fireplaces burnt wood beautifully and we asked for and got two extra deliveries of wood in the one week we were there! Kitchen was impeccably appointed and we cooked large family meals easily. Lots of extra blankets and comforters, enough to keep us all warm, and the two space heaters provided were perfect.

Have been visiting the Leland area for the past 12 years and have been coming to this home for the past 3 years. The most beautiful property with amazing sunsets - never disappoints. ❤️

Falling asleep to waves crashing in, cuddling under comforters, and making family meals together are good reasons to stay. However, don’t plan on modern day conveniences, but that’s the charm of it. Engage your pioneer spirit and be prepared for cold and warm days and nights depending on the time of year. June and September weather can be iffy, but a good time without lots of tourists in the towns.

Pineacres is a piece of magic from the past—a simple summer cottage whose authenticity has been preserved over the last century. The smell of pines, the sound of waves on the beach. It is a great place to re-center and spend time with family.

Our family--three generations--was lucky enough to spend another week at Pineacres this summer. It was wonderful to be back at "our" cottage, for our grandchildren to go out in the rowboat or canoes with their aunt and uncle, to walk on the beach to Leland for ice cream, to treat ourselves to fresh lake trout from Carlson's, to hear the wind in the pines and the waves on the lake, to see one sunset after another, to play cribbage, read books, and build sand castles. Heaven. We are already looking forward to being together next year. In fact, I wish I were there now!

Another beautiful, relaxing week at Pineacres!! Such a great spot—close to town and right on the beach! The sunsets are to die for and we love the old fashioned charm! Thanks again sharing your piece of Heaven!

We have vacationed at Pine Acres for quite a few summers. The view and sunset are absolutely breathtaking!! The path to the beach is clear because of the owners installing wood steps all the way down to the beach. You can see the sunset from the bedroom windows. It is truly a magical place!

Step back in time with this 120 historic cottage on the shores of Lake Michigan. Come prepared for both cold and hot weather, in Michigan it can change on a dime. Up North Michigan is always beautiful no matter what the weather. The location is perfect, a short walk to town or down the steps to the lake.

Our family of 9 (7 kids ranging from 20-12) enjoyed a wonderful week at this quaint historic cottage. We slowed way down enjoyed walking to Leland, playing on the beach, games at night and beautiful sunsets .
Thank you for sharing this piece of heaven with our family .

Turning onto the two-track driveway takes you immediately back to a time when folks spent their whole summers away from the city. You can't see your neighbors - you are surrounded by pine trees to the north, south, and east, and Lake Michigan to the west. The beach is wonderful, and a favorite haunt for rock hounds. The cottage is filled with games, books, and recreational equipment that does not require an electric or ethernet connection. Much recommended for those longing for the simpler days. The story of this 100+ year old home is wonderfully told in a book created by one of the owners - a great read.

We’ve been visiting Pineacres for over 64 years and it never disappoints. The smell of the pines, crashing of waves and old worldliness of the rustic cottage can not compare to anywhere else we’ve been.. The memories of our family gatherings linger in every room as we share this magical place with our younger generations. Thank you for allowing us to relive our family memories and make new ones there over and over.

Pineacres is very, very special to us. Our stays here are always just right! The home is a rustic summer cabin with charm and nostalgia. Everything is always clean and comfortable. This beach makes the place extra special for us. There are no other views that we have found in any home from our travels north. Mandy is extremely prompt and accommodating. We love walking in to Fishtown to grab a drink or a Cheese Shanty sandwich. Hunting for Petosky and sea glass is also a favorite thing to do. There is barely any cell service. It takes a day for our teenagers to adjust - but after that - they unplug for the week and enjoy our family time.

What a wonderful way to spend a week and disconnect from every day life. The sound of the waves as an alarm clock, walks on the beach to Fishtown, and sunsets over North Manitou Island. Highly recommend!

From the moment we drove down Pineacres wooded driveway we were whisked back to a simpler and more relaxing time. This cozy and rustic cabin was the perfect setting for our group of couples. With its unbeatable lake front views and private beach we enjoyed early morning walks hunting for Petoskey stones, browsing the rare book collection in the living room of the main house, eating meals on the deck overlooking lake, kayaking, hiking, biking and walking into town. At the conclusion of each busy day we headed down the the cabin's 6 perfectly placed sunset chairs to take in the breathtaking views with a cocktail in hand. Mandy and her sister we wonderful hosts. They were easy to get ahold of and quick with their responses. Scott the handyman was just a call away when we ran out of firewood for the large living room fireplace. Pineacres is steeped in the history of the Leelanau Peninsula. It was a pleasure to explore and enjoy. We will certainly be back to visit!

If you are looking for a cottage entirely - and gorgeously - stopped in time, this is it. The location is perfect and the beach is sublime. It is a bit rustic, so don’t expect a dishwasher or even a fitted kitchen. But for our family, it was perfect.

Pinecrest is certainly a step back in time. My family truly appreciates a vintage cottage, and we were looking forward to unplugging, unwinding, and enjoying the rustic charm of the property. The old-fashioned stone polishing wheel was a fun surprise, and we found the most amazing Petoskey stones and "Leland Blues" along the shore. The beach was spectacular! It was so easy to access (not a hundred stairs like so many other properties), and offered privacy and gorgeous views. You can spot the Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes to the South. Even our elderly pug pups had an easy time navigating the property and throughly enjoyed the beach time too!
The sunsets were gorgeous and not to be missed! For these reasons, we look forward to returning to Pinecrest. However, we do think the cleaning crew could stand to do a thorough, deep-clean of the property, and if a few updates were made to the house and annex, Pinecrest could be a gem for many more decades to come!
