About this house rental
Built in 1816, Vanderlip Hutchings House is a luxurious, historic home centrally located in the heart of historic Niagara-on-the-Lake, one block from Queen Street and steps to pubs, shops, restaurants, art galleries and the Shaw Theatre. North America’s oldest golf course and the Niagara river waterfront are just five minutes away.
The house, built immediately after the War of 1812, underwent renovations that added two extensions to the original structure. It is presently 3,200 square feet of modern luxurious living space, yet keeps many of the original features and all of its charm.
The main floor’s four original rooms retain the original working fireplaces.
On this level you have the spacious, well-furnished master bedroom, which has a king-size bed and modern en-suite bathroom with glass shower.
The main floor gourmet kitchen is fully equipped for discerning chefs. It also has a large gathering/sitting area for your family or guests.
Immediately adjoining, but separate from the kitchen, is an elegant dining room (formerly the original “parlour”) with seating for eight. It has a gas fireplace.
The “Morning Room” next to the kitchen, is an inviting, light-filled space dominated by south-facing windows and is perfect for reading, relaxing or games. Outside the kitchen is a private outdoor bistro seating area, ideal for enjoying morning coffee and the local paper.
The second floor has two tastefully furnished bedrooms with period antiques and an ultra modern bathroom.
At the far end of the house is the Great Room, a large main-floor open area, with an imposing gas fireplace, generously furnished for entertaining, socializing, or relaxing. The Great Room has a king size (2 separate twins) trundle bed/couch to accommodate one or two additional guests. Adjacent to the Great Room is a brand new 4 piece bathroom.
The house is surrounded by private lush gardens for your own enjoyment.
We know you will enjoy your stay at our beautiful home. Welcome!

Lovely Historical Niagara Home
Our group of 5 had a wonderful stay at the Vanderlip House! The location is perfect; only a block from the downtown area shops and restaurants, easy walking distance to everything, including bike rentals! The home was lovely and full of historical memorabilia that really set the mood for "old town Niagara on the Lake". Jane and Chris were the most gracious hosts ever, from our initial contact via email to greeting us at the house. The gardens were private and we enjoyed the BBQ and making a couple of meals in the well-equipped kitchen. Every detail was thought of, and we would highly recommend this property. We will definitely return in the future!

Lovely Family Gathering
This historic and charming home was perfect for our family gathering. We were four adults who like to spread out, with two more siblings staying nearby. We had a nice dinner in the beautiful dining room with a big fire in the gas fireplace, after cocktails in the family room with another big gas fire. The beds were extremely comfortable. Even though the house is olld the heating and air conditioning both worked great. Chris and Jane were immediately accessible if we needed anything. The location was ideal, one block off the main street yet still quiet. We would definitely like to stay here again when we return to NOTL.

Family vacation in NOTL
We had a wonderful stay in NOTL. The house was full of history and welcoming decor. Just the right size for my family of four. The host was so accommodating the weeks leading up for the stay, I knew we were in for a special home. All the amenities we needed for morning pancakes and coffee and bbqs when we felt like lounging at home. NOTL is a beautiful town and we enjoyed seeing some theater at the Shaw Festival as well as the vineyards. Lots of great memories made!

Exceptional Heritage Home
We had a family reunion trip to Niagara on the Lake and loved this property. Lots of charm and history and close to great shops and restaurants. Groceries very close as well. We enjoyed the sunset views from the lake park and tour wineries. I will definitely return and stay here again!!

Historic charm
Destroyed in the War of 1812, and rebuilt in 1816, this house is full of history and charm. With the newer additions, the house is spacious, large enough for our group of eight guests, and yet feels very cozy. With several common areas in the house and three full bathrooms, we never felt like we were on top of one another. Our favorite room was the one between the kitchen and entry way. The home's garden and courtyard are lovely as well, although we didn't have time to enjoy them as much as we would have liked. I'd 100% recommend this house for family gatherings or groups of responsible adults (being an historic home, there are lots of care instructions). We happened to be there during an intense heat wave so I imagine this isn't a problem most of the time, but the bedrooms upstairs were a little toasty, even with the fans that they have provided.
And while the interiors of the house are well appointed and comfortable, the best part about the house is its proximity to bustling Queen Street. Only one block from the main thoroughfare, we could easily walk everywhere in town.
Jane and Chris were very helpful throughout our stay and clearly proud, dedicated homeowners. Overall, our experience was 5 star!

Best Place to Stay to Visit NOTL
This home is beautifully appointed and very comfortable. It has an excellent location for exploring the town and countryside. The owners of the home, Chris and Jane, were warm and welcoming and answered all our questions about the fascinating history of this historic house and about the area and it’s attractions. I stayed there recently with 6 friends and there was lots of room for everyone. I highly recommend this home as a wonderful place to stay in NOTL.

Perfect in Every Way
My husband and I stayed (along with another couple) in this property as a part of his 60th birthday celebration. We were there in June, and the gardens were in full bloom and absolutely spectacular. This house is first class, charming and full of historical character. In addition, we had a snafu with VRBO in our booking, and the owners were accommodating and gracious in helping us resolve our issue. The location is perfect and walking distance to everything in the downtown area.

Wonderful historic home. The owner Jane stopped by to bring something we requested and graciously shared the history if this beautiful home with us. Fabulous location - easy walking distance to town. Took maybe 2 minutes . Very quiet beautiful neighborhood. All the gardens, especially at this home are gorgeous. I can’t recommend thus vacation hime more highly than absolutely the best. Very comfortable home with lots of room to spread out if you choose to do so. Isll 6 of us would definitely return and stay here. 20 stars fir Jane and Chris snd their beautiful home.

Large, comfortable, & close to downtown.
This house is perfect for our group of seven. We come primarily to see plays at the Shaw Festival, and the location is a short walk to any of the venues. And of course, just 2 blocks to the main street, so most stores & restaurants are also close.
The house is spacious and comfortable, and the 3 bathrooms are especially welcome! There is a lovely patio area which we used a couple of times. The house is well-furnished and welcoming.
The wifi is pretty much only available in the downstairs, and it would have been convenient if it could be used upstairs as well. I am not sure about the patio area as I never tried it there. That was the only drawback, and overall not very important.
We hope to stay here again next year!

Lovely home in the perfect location
Spent a wonderful holiday exploring the area. Then were able to relax and unwind at this absolutely charming home. Mixes the character and history of the area with modern conveniences. We found all the comforts of home. Can't wait to return to Niagara on the Lake!

This was our group of 5 ladies’ second visit to NOTL. We love it here and this house was fabulous!
Oldest home in town and cozy and charming with lots of room to spread out and enjoy. Owners are absolutely wonderful to deal with. We are already talking about our return visit.

Dream home for a dream vacation. Meets every expectation one could hope for in a rental home.
Where do I begin! Jane and Chris are the most attentitive hosts! They made sure our visit was carefully set up to maintain all the comforts of feeling at home.
The house is so beautiful, with all the character of a heritage home in which we felt honoured to stay in. Truly amazed at how the home has all the conveniences of a modern home in keeping with the feel of an old character home. We were a family of 7, and never felt crowded in this amazingly well laid out home. As beautiful as all the rooms are, we spent a majority of our time in the conversation/kitchen area and in the morning room. You know what they say, the company always gravitates to the kitchen , well having a comfortable seating area off the kitchen made this our hub of daily conversations. Bedrooms beautifully decorated, fresh crisp linens on the most comfortable beds made for a great nights sleep after busy days spent in town and the local wineries. The gardens are so beautiful and emculately maintained, wish we had more time to spend outside , but we went when a heat wave hit the region.
The location of the house is perfect. One block away from Queen Street , so very accessible to all our favourite gelato, restaurants and shops in which we visited daily.
I am truly blessed to have stayed in this home. I know we will return again to stay at the Vanderlip Hutchings Home, even if we travel with fewer numbers I will always stay here. You can not put a price tag on the visit, as the home made me feel I was at home which surrounded me with so much history and beauty . Truly an amazing experience in which has left a lasting impression with our family.
Thank you Jane and Chris for a most wonderful experience and for opening your home to strangers. You made everything from checking in to checking out so very easy. You are wonderful hosts.

Gorgeous property, wonderful family time
My family stayed here over the Labor Day weekend, and had the most wonderful time. The house is beautiful, and much bigger than it looked in the pictures. Everything was very clean, and the home had lots of historic character. It's also centrally located in very short walking distance to the NOTL shops and restaurants. This was the perfect place to stay for a group of adults who want to vacation together. Not a single complaint!

RESTFUL RETREAT IN A BEAUTIFUL HISTORICAL HOME
We searched on HomeAway.com for the perfect home for my sisters and spouses to have an entire house for our restful retreat. We enjoyed playing cards, enjoyed Sonny's piano recitals and leading our exercise classes, and snacking. We felt right at home, so relaxed. Everything in Jane and Chris' home was immaculate, elaborate as well as comfy all at the same time. For our shopping and eating adventures one block to Queen Street was so convenient. Definitely highly recommend to all. We had a wonderful time. Thank you Jane and Chris for sharing your beautiful home with us.

Wonderful meeting house for friends and family
Property is somewhat historic, but very modern and comfortable.
We met 2 friends from different locations and we all had a bedroom and bathroom. There are eating areas in the house and outside (where we had our breakfasts).
Parking was easy as the driveway was roomy enough for three cars (one car behind the other two).
There were numerous sitting areas inside and out. A charming home.
Willow Cakes a nice bakery is a walk away as are the numerous shops on Queen Street, a block south. We walked to the theaters.
A very convenient location.

The house is beautiful and the owners are wonderful hosts. There is plenty of seating and room for everyone to have a private space to read and relax. We enjoyed eating outside at the table. The gardens are beautiful and well kept. The only thing that keeps me from giving 5 stars is that the upstairs bedrooms were very warm. The weather was hot and humid during our stay and the air conditioning didn't seem to cool the upstairs. Otherwise our stay was great.

We were 5 mature ladies travelling together to celebrate a retirement and birthday. The house is huge and extremely well located to walk to most of the attractions in Niagara-on-the-Lake. Our hosts Chris and Jane made the rental process and access to the house very easy. Our only concerns were that the kitchen was not very well cleaned by the cleaning staff and they only left us two dishwasher pucks for our 5 day stay. Chris soon remedied this. There could have been more towels but this is minor concern. The house had great space for everyone to be able to get away if they wished. The large living room was a fine gathering place and the gas fireplace was a bonus for chilly evenings. Provided good ambiance. We used the patio for al fresco dining both morning and evening before theatre. Lovely! Thank you Chris and Jane for your hospitality.

This is an awesome house, with a great location right off the main street, close to a grocery store, and with a fabulous ambience. We were three couples, with one teenager, staying to enjoy the plays in NOTL. This house was almost perfection.
Just to get a few quibbles out of the way first. The master bedroom and ensuite is beautiful and spacious. But the upstairs rooms are not as luxurious. So, we drew lots and we were the lucky couple, enjoying the master suite. I think the other couples were not as pleased with their accommodation. The other issue is that the linens are not as advertised. Clearly the owner uses a laundry service, and some of the sheets were not of high quality.
But let me speak to the positives. What a wonderful place! The peaceful garden for breakfast and dinner - the BBQ steak, the perfect weather and the comfortable evenings in the great room! The generously sized dining room was enjoyed by all. One of the party sat there one night, just admiring "her" dining room, a space we could all dream of owning. The lovely modern bathrooms, everything in order. The good wifi. It makes all those tiny quibbles pale in comparison! Highly recommended.

My husband and I and our grown children had a wonderful 3 day adventure in Niagara-on-the-Lake. The house was beyond adorable with plenty of room, beds, baths and amenities to accommodate all 7 of us. The yard was lovely with a big table to grill and eat outdoors. The location, so close to the adorable downtown area and Lake Ontario, made it perfect. We hit several wineries, rented bikes, kayaked in the lake and had a wonderful time. Jane even ordered us perfect weather!
