This was our 2nd visit. Enjoy Beaufort for the mix of good restaurants, history, friendly people, and things to do. This house is a very good location - quite in the evenings, easy walk to Beaufort proper, or to bike rentals which expand your range. The house is well equipped and hosts Allen and Dawn or great hosts.

A wonderful place to stay while visiting the area. The freedman’s cottage is very comfortable and well designed. The new parts of the cottage are equipped with the best of everything. The historic areas are well maintained. It is easy to slip away to a simpler time sitting on the porch with an iced tea. Very convenient to the best shops and restaurants. Excellent location!

The cottage was just as described and even exceeded our expectations ! The owners have done a beautiful job restoring on old cottage while maintaining it’s original character. Even though it is only 2 bedrooms the home feels very spacious and is so cozy!
It is so convenient to all that downtown Beufort has to offer. We walked downtown and explored the many shops and boutiques and tried several restaurants all of which did not disappoint!

Road trip from Kansas with friends. Amazing place close to local attractions. The house was very clean and spacious for two couples. We had a great time visiting the downtown area shops and restaurants. The pizza at Hearth Wood Fired Pizza was delicious. Also ate at Dockside and Luther’s for dinner, both were just as good. Breakfast at Blackstone Cafe is a must, make sure you are there before 8:00 for the Pledge of Allegiance. We did a boat tour with Dolphin Adventures and our captain John had so much interesting information and made sure we got to see several dolphins.
I would definitely recommend stay at this VRBO, the host and home were excellent.

So often rentals have cheesy/skimpy/hodgepodge decor and furnishings which are clearly leftover relics and cast offs but not at King Street Cottage. Allan gives his wife credit with the decorating and she has nailed it. The cottage is light and bright and tastefully decorated. She has thought of everything right down to strategically placed night lights. She has cleverly created a soothing and cozy atmosphere while simultaneously providing ample space for stowing your belongings; she even has a locking cabinet in the master bedroom closet for valuables. She provides quality linens & towels, complete sets of dishware, utensils, glasses and cookware (again, it's not a mishmash of cast offs) and all the essentials/necessities for your stay. The bed and furniture are very comfortable. It's spotlessly clean, not a spec of mildew in the bathrooms which no small feat in the South. The cottage is a block from Bay Street and we walked to downtown along the water. We enjoyed wandering through the neighborhoods, old churches and cemeteries as well as the waterfront park. The US Marine Corp Air Station is three miles away and we watched with fascination (and ear plugs LOL) as one fighter jet after another came in to land...we could practically reach up and touch them. It was a unique experience. I love history and appreciate The Brooker's TLC restoration and preservation of this home built in 1900. If we return to Beaufort, I won't stay anywhere else--this is definitely a home I would like to stay in again.

Nice place to stay in Beaufort….walkable to restaurants & safe to walk @ night to see all the churches & houses. Would suggest bringing eye shades for sleeping given the bright lights nearby.

We loved everything about this cottage!!!

This was the perfect place to stay for 3 days sandwiched in between visits to Charleston and Savannah. The cottage was low country perfection. It is modern with the perfect homage to its roots,( which you can read all about the extensive restoration and updates that were done in the welcome/information book). I would have been fine just spending time in the lovely, book and antique filled living room or on the swing and rocker filled covered front porch (one evening we did just that, sitting out there with a glass of wine listening to the rain and thunder…heaven!) However, the cottage’s location makes it too easy to venture out on day trips to nearby Hunting Island (must do!) and Hilton Head Island. You can walk to charming downtown Beaufort and a great little breakfast/coffee spot (Herban Market) is steps away. Also steps away is the waterfront and a great walk to view antebellum homes. The cottage has everything you could need or want and the owners are gracious and accommodating and I am so appreciative that they shared their lovely home with us.
Definitely hope to return again. (And again and again)
