We love San Ignacio and this home was perfect for us. Getting around town can be a bit challenging (narrow busy one-way streets) but we figured it out fine. The home itself was really nice, very clean and had everything we needed. Having a washer and dryer downstairs was a huge deal for us. The hosts we very responsive, checking in often to see if we needed anything. Overall fantastic stay, highly recommended.

This house itself was very nice and well maintained but a bit inconvenient. The location is a little too far from the center of town and the roads up to it were steep and full of HUGE potholes. You would definitely want to have a car if staying here. We also felt a bit inconvenienced by having to close and lock the gate every time we left. It gave us a bit of unease about the neighborhood, which did have some dogs that barked well into the night. The price was good, but just know that it is a trade-off for some not so conveniet features.

Great oversized property for our needs but very comfortable and convenient. Elida was available for anything we needed.
Only complaint was the two shower heads which need to be replaced. A true home away from home and if back in San Ignacio, we know where to stay!

All in all an excellent experience. Our only glitch was the refrigerator dying on the last day which was quickly attended to. The house is on a hill above the western highway and near Helen’s grocery store. For any fruits and vegetables you need to go to the San Ignacio open market about a
Mile away. Great restaurants nearby. The support staff were outstanding in resolving our dead refrigerator issue

Close hilltop location
Didn't realize the house was on a hilltop. Not a problem if you have a rental car (or call a taxi). So we got our exercise, not a bad thing just took some preplanning when going out. Master bedroom has a beautiful senic beach scene. Take earplugs, roosters are crowing around 5:30. Lots of birds in the area. Mattresss were not great.

Great place
We loved staying at this house. We had not realised that April was one of the hottest months of the year and the air conditioning was extremely helpful. We also loved having a washer and dryer. The house was very clean and central to so many things we wanted to see. We loved our stay there.

Beautiful resort in St. Ignacio, close to Belizean Maya ruins and other sights.
Very clean & modern; the few problems we had were addressed and fixed quickly (leaking faucet).

Great location in a fun town!
San Ignacio is such a fun place and the Villa Maya is in a great, safe location. The house is large and nicely decorated. Sitting on the deck in the morning and listening to the sounds of the rain forest was my favorite part of the day. The property manager was quick to respond to any concerns we had. The house could use some updated pots and pans, but besides that, the kitchen was large and easy to cook in.

Beautiful home!
We stayed with our family for 3 nights and found this property lovely! It has a beautiful veranda and is very spacious with comfortable beds. Very central location and felt safe and secure. The Vacasa team was very helpful and quick to answer any questions we had! Highly recommend this property!

Nice place to stsy
I’ve stayed here several times already and have booked this home for a future stay. It’s a really nice place to stay in San Ignacio. Huge living room, huge veranda, nice kitchen and two big bedrooms and bathrooms. I love the washer and dryer and the security if the property. The things I think need attention...bath towels are very well used! There’s no hot water in the kitchen for washing dishes. And the openings at the stairs in the house and on the veranda might need safety gates as they are steep! The caretaker is very nice and makes you feel very welcomed upon arrival! Excited about my upcoming stay but a bit anxious as my grand daughter is also coming ...this grandma judt worries about the unprotected stairs!

Return to an Amazing Home
This was our second stay at Villa Maya in San Ignacio, Cayo, Belize...and it won’t be our last, hopefully. The house is located in a nice neighborhood that’s close to downtown, ruins, and great places to eat. The property is well kept and very clean. Villa Maya boasts two stories that can be rented separately or as the entire house. We stayed in the top story which provides two bedrooms and two bathrooms, a spacious and comfortable living area, huge eat-in kitchen, super fast Internet, cable TV, washer and dryer, and serene wrap-around veranda. Villa Maya is cropped by vacant, groomed lots and offers views of woods, and distant mansions. There is an elementary school across the street from the property...but during our July stay, there were no classes. Each morning we enjoyed the chattering of the chachalacas (birds) in the trees. The only suggestions I have for the owners of this lovely rental are...1. If you are offering this home to families of small children, gates would be important at the tops of both staircases..(They would be a great safety measure for all ages as these stairs are quite steep.) 2. The “Belizean” shower head is a bit scary to Westerners! 3. Towel racks in the guest bath need repair as they are not secured to the walls. 4. Possible updates or posted instructions for the fan/light switches! 5. Some light bulbs need replacing...Small things that will help with safety and comfort! Thanks to the owners and caretakers for offering such a nice home at such a reasonable price!

Liked the quite peacefulness. Enjoyed drinking my coffee every morning of the veranda.

Very Nice
The Villa Maya (upstairs appt.) was a beautiful place to stay for our 3 nights in San Ignacio. Furnishings, etc. were very nice (as pictured). Kitchen had a blender which worked great for fresh fruit smoothies, but no spatula for cooking eggs. The wrap-around shaded balcony was wonderful. Security was good, with parking inside the locked gate.
Located in a nice neighborhood away from downtown, so you will want a car or cab to get to town. Cahal Pech Mayan site is an easy walk, though.
A couple very minor issues - ceiling fan light was burned out in one bedroom, but the bedside lamps worked. Same bedroom had an issue with the air conditioner set to 16 Celsius and the remote control would not adjust the temp. Thankfully it was cool enough to rely on the ceiling fan, so we were never really uncomfortable.
Overall, a very nice stay - I would recommend this place to anyone.

Beautiful Home
Although it was a little difficult to find, this home was beautiful and exactly what we wanted. The neighbourhood was safe and quiet. The kitchen, bedrooms, and living room had everything we needed. The care taker was quick to answer all our questions and came over within 10 minutes when we had some difficulty with the personal safe. I would definitely stay here again!

Horribly disappointed!!!!
We had no running water; no showers, no flushing toilets, and no faucet water!!! The beds were uncomfortable and customer service was non-exsistant! Would not recommend this house at all!!!!

Overall Good Experience
It's a bit of a walk to the town center, but villa's manager recommended a taxi which we took for about $1 and they picked us up from the villa. The space is beautiful and spacious. Street dogs can be pretty loud throughout the night if you're a light sleeper (that's anywhere in San Ignacio honestly), but not a deal breaker at all. Overall a good place to stay at. The manager was very attentive and responded to all our WhatsApp messages in a timely manner.

Comfortable
We spent three nights here in December...comfortable, everything worked and the property managers were responsive. It’s a little off the beaten path (not on a “road” really) and the manual gate was a pain in the dark. Also, up high...but no real view. 5 stars if it had an automatic gate and a nicer view!

Great condo apartment in the hills!!
I love the open space of this condo, it was a lot of room, very comfortable, and super nice. It was clean, the staff was super helpful and was gem in San Ignacio, I would reccomend staying, and would book again.

BEWARE & NOTICE no pics of surrounding area for a reason!
5 visits to Belize and this was my WORST stay! This property is a remote location not walking distance from anything and impossible to find, management gave inaccurate directions that left us LOST. You are locked into the gate and the stairwell leading to the flat is gated padlocked. Leaving us feeling locked in, in an unsafe location. The outside light blew out literally less then a minute after we turned it on.
We waited 30 minutes parked for the attendant to lead us in.Once there at 3pm we were told the water was out in the whole town(later learned it had been out since early morning, so we should've been informed before arrival). The water company continued to delay when the water would be on. At 9:30 pm (after we were in bed from a long drive up the mountain on unpaved roads as they are being worked on) The attendant text did I want her to bring water, I woke up at 1 am and saw the text . Water should've been brought without question. Still no water the next morning so we left by 7am.
They refused to refund any money for a 2 night stay offering a 10% discount on next stay. Stating it was beyond their control and I was offered water. Then tried to accuse us of smoking in the property (which we don't do) and in the same sentence stated the maid said it was probably mosquito coils, which is was, as it had been raining for days and there were several bugs in the flat gathering at the lights.
Only $75 total was refunded on a 2 night stay for a property that was uninhabitable before I arrived. And although I totally understand it was beyond their control, if you can't provide alternate options for situations like this such as a pump or giving the option of cancellation before arrival, you shouldn't be renting! And to refuse a refund is BEYOND my comprehension. I wouldn't have stayed the one night if wasn't already dark by the time we realized this would last more then a couple hours. I dared not to attempt those roads at night with all the construction. If I could give this experience a negative 5 I would!

Perfect Villa on the Edge of History
Sitting on the edge of the ancient Mayan ruins of Cahal Pech, Villa Maya offers tranquility and amenities that will make your Belizean stay quite comfortable. The home is immaculate, spacious, and comfortable. A/C in Belizean homes is a rarity, but this home boasts units in bedrooms and the great room. But the greatest part of this home is the huge veranda that catches the breezes and hands guests a peaceful perch close to the jungle. Across the street from Villa Maya is an elementary school, but the only noises coming from the area are the sweet sounds of laughter of the students....and mostly only for about 15 minutes before the bell rings! The villa is a bit tricky to find, but the roads are for the most part pretty good...Even in a downpour, the dirt road never became slippery or muddy! Remember to make a grocery and supply stop before arriving at the house...the owner offers a couple rolls of toilet paper and a roll of paper towels and a container of dish soap...other than that, there are no other supplies. There are dishes (most of the plates are not microwave friendly, so beware!), pots and pans, a washer AND dryer, and very nice furniture adorning the home. The fully-fenced yard is huge...big enough for a very nice pool...hint! hint!

Nice stay in San Ignacio
My wife and I just returned from our stay at Villa Maya. The house itself was great. We stayed in the upstairs suite. We loved the large wraparound balcony. Very neat and well kept. The appliances were all very modern and in good condition. AC worked very well and was happy with the local Cable system ( all NFL games were available to watch). Felt very secure in the house. Good location very close to town and for making day trips. Was a great value for the price. Only problem we had was finding the place. Even with the GPS coordinates we couldn’t find the place for over an hour. You should put up a sign on the edge of the trail leading to the house. Also you can mention it is across the way from the school. Overall we were very happy and would stay again.

A Beautiful Villa on the Edge of History
Sitting on the edge of the ancient ruins of Cahal Pech, Villa Maya offers parallels the serenity of a home sitting in the middle of a rainforest; however, this home is on the outskirts of San Ignacio Town and in the same neighborhood as the home of Belize's Prime Minister. Directly across the "street" from the home is an elementary school. (No noise from this school except for the laughter of children before classes begin!) Villa Maya sits on more of a trail than a street, but even in heavy rains, we had no problem driving in and out of the property and neighborhood. Inside the house, guests are greeted by gorgeous mahoganey wood-work throughout the home. We stayed in the top level...which I highly recommend because of the huge wrap-around verandas! Sitting on the veranda, guests can not only enjoy a view but also the morning and evening breezes Belize has to offer! The kitchen is stocked with appliances, dishes, and cookware...be careful...most of the plates are NOT microwave friendly! There isn't much in the line of paper goods like paper towels and toilet paper, so be prepared to stop at a grocery store during your visit...You'll also need to pick up laundry supplies (There's a great washer and dryer downstairs!) and any bath/shower items you might need...as in most VRBO/AIRBNB homes, this villa does not offer items such as shampoo, conditioner, etc. Guests have loads of privacy, even if only renting one floor. We'll definitely stay in Villa Maya again...only thing that would make this haven even better...a pool! (The yard is definitely big enough for one!!)

This is a spacious and private 2B/2Ba place perfect for couples or a group of friends looking to explore the amazing jungles of Belize and town of San Ignacio! It’s very safe, double gated (one to enter the premise and one before the stairs) with a lockbox that will keep your keys safe during the day. It is important to note that the location is secluded and thus difficult to describe/find for anyone who isn’t a local. We were only able to arrive on time after we had been met with a shuttle driver previously booked, who was a SI local who happened to have some time to check out the location prior to picking us up. From there, it’s about a 15-20 minute walk to town (downhill) and a 25-30 minute walk back (up a steep hill and through some back roads). Taxi rides both ways are around 5 minutes and 5 Belizean $ (though getting a taxi outside the town limits is difficult and need to be arranged through the concierge). Plan ahead depending on your itinerary and modes of transportation available! Otherwise, effective communication, clean and well accommodated place with a great perimeter balcony. It’s surrounded by dirt roads and there is parking available both within the main gate and outside of it. There is also a supermarket right down the hill where you can grab groceries and basic supplies. There are washers and dryers available in the basement as well. Recommended for those interested in taking local tours from the town of San Ignacio and have means to get around.

Villa Maya review
Three of us stayed at Villa Maya for 4 days. Had a wonderful time. Did three tours with River rats from this home. The downstairs was vacant. The yard and house were well maintained. It was lovely to wake up and hear birds singing and have a coffee on the patio. There is lots of towels, the air conditioning worked well and the TV was very good. What was missing was any pantry items including basics like salt and pepper. The fridge needed maintenance and was very loud at times. A local phone would have been nice as we did not have a cell phone for taxis. There is a local school right by so if you are going, please take some school supplies to help them out

We absolutely loved this place. Esmerelda was great and there when we arrived. It is exactly as described and we wish we could have stayed longer. The only thing that would have made it better would have been a pool! LOL Great location!

Google maps did not tell us there was a new bridge and very nice highway near San Ignacio, but we found the property. We were met by Esmeralda who was charming and helpful with getting us settled in. She also helped us with planning zipline and tubing excursions. A grocery store is not far away and the home was very comfortable, clean, and cozy.
5.0 / 10.0
This is a beautiful house surrounded by lush vegetation. The kitchen and living areas are spacious and comfortable, and coffee on the deck in the mornings listening to the many kinds of birds singing is especially relaxing. The property manager and cleaner are very friendly and helpful, and made us feel at home.
Just a couple of things to expect:
If you've stayed at VRBO's before, you may expect some things in the kitchen such as aluminum foil, spices, etc. There are none of that type of thing here, so just be prepared to bring your own if you're planning on cooking. Otherwise the kitchen is wonderful, with great appliances and cookware, etc.
Like many places in San Ignacio, this house might be a little hard to find the first time. The roads on all sides are dirt and can get kind of muddy if it rains. Again, this is typical of the region. 4 wheel drive is highly recommended if you're planning on driving in the area. Just be patient, though, and you'll eventually see the house.
If we are ever back in this area, we would definitely stay here again!

Perfect house for a base camp to explore the area. Great price and comfortable home. A little out of the way need GPS coordinates for finding it and for tour pick-ups.
