About this cabin rental
Lake Abanakee Camp is more like Lake Abanakee Home than a camp, with brick fireplace, hardwood and nice quarry tile look vinyl flooring, natural wood cabinets and walls, birchbark themed kitchen wallpaper (nice kitchen), and lots of Adirondack touches from rug to artwork to lamp/end table. The 'screened porch' is actually a room off the kitchen with 2 windows that have screens when opened. There is a nice view of the lake across a quiet neighborhood road from all 3 of those rooms. The small wading beach is not ideal for swimming (kids will like it) because the water is shallow at this spot but there is a dock for boating. You will spend many pleasant hours and meals sitting in the chairs by the water. You might see the doe and fawn along the shore to our right as well as at different times duck and 8 tiny ducklings, 6 geese, and loons can be heard throughout.. An active osprey nest is atop a pole in the middle of the causeway. The double lot with the lawned sideyard on one side of the house provides privacy, and the neighbor on the other side never uses their dock or waterfront next to ours, so it gives you more of a feeling of having this section of the lakefront to ourselves. Friendly community (people wave); quiet at night. You might want to climb up Chimney Mt to a fine view from some of the rock formations at the top or kayak/fish on the lake. There is a nice small swimming beach, convenience store, and a few eateries a couple miles away in the town and more trailheads along the road to beautiful Blue Mt Lake with state owned islands, just one of many paddling experiences nearby in addition to miles of exploration in Lake Abanakee itself. Approximately 4 miles long and ½ mile wide, Lake Abanakee winds around islands with nesting osprey and eagles. Both large and small mouth Bass are abundant, as are the more elusive Northern Pike. The plentiful pan-fish population will keep the beginning fisherman interested, while the experienced hand can attempt a larger catch, including Muskie and Walleye. Lake Abanakee is exceptionally quiet. Rare is the loud motor boat, though trolling motors are welcome. Paddle enthusiasts will find hours of leisurely touring. Or, travel up the Indian River and over a wooded portage to experience Indian Lake. NOTE: this is a cabin in the woods, there will be wildlife, maybe a mouse, maybe a moose, one never knows.

Perfect location to many lakes and streams.
We were very happy to have such a comfy "home-base" for our adventures. Thank you!

A lovely stay in the cottage. The lake was beautiful and we had a great time using the kayaks, going for walks and just being at peace. Would 100% recommend!

Lake views, wildlife, scenic sunsets and fall colors. What more? The property was clean , warm in the evenings, has wifi and streaming for the evenings, close to trails in day. Fishing dock and paddle boat available.

Enjoyed our stay. Saw lots of wildlife. Launched kayaks from the dock and fished and caught some big pike and tons of small fish.

House very clean and comfortable and well stocked.Felt “at home” immediately. Amazing quiet location on beautiful lake. Having use of kayaks was great. Difficult lake to fish even with tips from host’s brother, however scenery and wildlife made up for it. Quiet roads to walk and pretty sunsets. Very relaxing. Wonderful responsive host. Would highly recommend it!

My husband and I spent over two weeks here in August. The location is perfect for a visit to the Adirondacks with many hiking trails nearby. The lake is lovely and although we don't do any boating it was relaxing to sit by the lake and enjoy the scenery and wildlife. The cabin (aka camp) has very comfortable beds which is usually an issue for us in rentals. The shower was great. The kitchen is well-equipped. Everything was clean and tidy. The overall feeling of the cabin was cozy and comfortable.
Since this summer had the most rain since numbers were recorded, the white birch trees have absorbed water and many upper sections of the tree trunks have broken off. A trunk top fell and smashed our windshield. It was easily fixed but we learned not to park near a white birch tree.
In Indian Lake there are a few restaurants. We highly recommend The Indian Lake Restaurant which is open for both lunch and dinner but closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. The staff is great and the restaurant is clean. Puterko's Pizzeria was also very good but only open for dinner and closed on Mondays. For local color stop at the Bear Trap.
We would definitely come back here on another visit to the Adirondacks.

The camp was very nice and well equipped. We saw deer in the yard several times and enjoyed seeing the ducks every morning making their rounds. The lake was nice for paddling, but we didn't have much luck fishing. The area is very quiet with a large private yard. Overall, a nice and relaxing stay.

The house was clean, as always, and provides great access to the Lake.

We had a great time here. We would rent again if we go back to that area. Loved all the wildlife around. Supplies are a lot more expensive in this area so try and bring as much stuff with you as you can. Overall we had a fantastic time.

Great home base .

Another great stay. The cabin is always clean and comfortable with a great view of the water.

This home was a lot larger than we expected. It could comfortably sleep 7. It was in an ideal location just outside the hamlet of Indian Falls and had an excellent view of lake Akanabee. We enjoyed daily visits from a doe and her fawn. Our only disappointment was that the instructions inside the house forbade us from using the living room fireplace.

The house was very clean, accommodating and had everything needed for a stay. Location was nice, enjoying our walks along Lake Abanakee, seeing deer, loons and eagles. Very pleasant. Would definitely stay there again.

This is the second time we have rented the cabin. It is in a quiet setting with a beautiful view and close to the Village of Indian Lake. We enjoy the property and look forward to our return in 2023.

Relax at waters edge, paddle to middle for swim-paddle further for adventure. Rooms quite small, but didn’t deter from our stay. Cabin was sufficient for our week-kitchen had everything, lots of room in living room/yard, plenty of hot water for showering. Donna was easy to reach & quick to answer our questions. Friendly, quiet neighborhood. Couldn’t have been happier.

House is just right for a small family and hanging out on the lake.

My husband and I and our adult son spent a very enjoyable week at this camp. The weather was wonderful with a nice breeze off the water. We were less than successful fishing but enjoyed the kayaks. The camp was very comfortable. We brought our ROKU and watched a movie every night after we returned from dinner. We found some wonderful places to eat as none of us cook while on vacation. Very well stocked kitchen if you do want to though. I highly recommend this place. It's quiet, scenic, and a bargain

Our family of 4 stayed here for a week in July and we had a wonderful time. The home was perfect for our family with plenty of indoor and outdoor space. We loved the little beach and dock. My son spent hours fishing and catching small pan fish. Excellent kayaking and hiking in the area! The home is in a nice residential street for going for walks with amazing views of Lake Abanakee. We enjoyed nights by the fire listening to loons! We would definitely stay here again :)

We had a great time at this little home on the water. Lots of great paddling, crying loons, swooping osprey, and quiet nights. Quaint, clean, and feels like home… you won’t regret staying here!

Very peaceful and beautiful area

Simple cabin with all necessary items to have a good stay. Enjoyed our time outside on the lake and hiking trails nearby. One rainy day is the only down side I can mention, but nevertheless we had fun staying inside and playing board games and watching TV.
If you have time, visit natural stone cave ~30 miles away - great activity for kids

Everything you need to get away. The lake was beautiful as well as the drive to the cabin. Would love to stay here again.

Stumbling into near peak fall colors in the ADK was the icing on the cake for our stay at this well cared for cabin. A lovely lake view right out your front window, a full kitchen with plenty of space and cozy accommodations set the stage for a great stay. A large side yard with a campfire pit and great stargazing as well as access to the lake makes this home feel like your camping far from civilization. The nearby Hamlet business center offers warm and welcoming pub fare and restaurant meals that will not leave you dissapointed along with gas, a convenience , local shops and adventure guides that complete your needs. Top that with the fact that you are literally only minutes from the trails and anglers delights that draw so many to the region and its hard to ask for more.We had a wonderful stay and do highly recommend this spot for anyone who loves the ADK like we do. Just wonderful!

We enjoyed the area tremendously. The location was a good option for many destinations. The house was well stocked and the area was quiet. We did most of our own cooking,
Planning ahead with that will be beneficial. The general store has most basic needs location is a short drive to town. I recommend Adventure Sports Rafting for a white water experience the boat captins/guides are safe, excellent and knowledgeable of area. Our Hawaii dream vacation was canceled due to covid and I'm so happy we chose Indian River,NY We will be back!

Bedrooms small but comfortable. Loved kayaking the lake, so peaceful and calm.

This was probably the best vacation my family had. It ended up raining a few days and we had to spend time in the house. It was great, we cooked, watched TV and had a fabulous amount of family time. We will 100% stay here again. The location is great with hikes, the lake is right there and plenty or outdoor space.

We had a fabulous experience! Both the house and location were great. There were numerous excellent hiking trails nearby. We also enjoyed kayaking and campfires. The house matched its description. Of particular nite, the kitchen was very well equipped for a VRBO, and the internet worked well. We highly recommend this property!

We really enjoyed our week! It was truly a relaxing getaway and Donna was a great host! Check in and out process was super easy. We had plenty of space to relax inside. We enjoyed grilling and using the fire pit, as well as kayaking around the lake. My husband took our 11yo out fishing with the row boat and she caught her first fish ever - a great memory! Thanks again for a truly memorable vacation!

There are tons of things to do in the area. Indian lake has a 10 hike challenge you can find online. We enjoyed lots of kayaking and floating. There are lots of lily pads so we had go kinda far out but enjoyed every minute.
4.8
Great hosts, no issues at all. House is well represented in the pictures, super quiet neighborhood. We enjoyed the lake and the proximity to local attractions, public beach, Gore Mt., Blue Mountain/Blue Mountain Lake. Good way into the Adirondack region without crowds.

This place was great. Though some might find the cabin somewhat dated, it was perfect for me and my fishing buddies. The cabin sits on a large, fairly secluded, wooded lot with very little traffic. A loon’s nest on the lake is visible from the dock. Fishing in the lake (Lake Abanakee) wasn’t great, though perch are abundant. We had much better luck on nearby Lewey Lake and Lake Durant, both of which were loaded with bass. We certainly would stay here again. It was a great place to unwind and share some laughs.
4.8
Cabin was clean and comfortable. We love paddling Abanakee because each direction there are multiple streams and islands and so few motor boats. Made some new friends with the resident loons and ducks (from a respectful distance of course) and had the good fortune to catch Willie’s Barbecue open one of the days for lunch. Would stay here again.

This house is the perfect getaway. There's so much to do outdoors nearby or just paddling the lake for incredible views. The fishing wasn't good, but we forgot all about it just enjoying the cozy home, great yard, & amazing outdoor activities nearby. Would highly recommend this property to anyone.
