About this house rental
The mansion has been used for dozens of photo and video shoots by Williams Sonoma, Cost Plus, Loews, Gumps, Pottery Barn and others. As all this implies, the property is just beautiful, with grand rooms, and towering ceilings.
We have done a huge amount of redecorating in the past few months, and the Mansion is more spectacular than ever. We can now provide at least 11 bedrooms. There are more in the house, but they may be in the process of decorating. If you need more, please ask if they are available before you book. Also, I only provide the number of bedrooms required, to avoid confusion for the cleaning people as to what rooms they should clean.
Here's an overview of the mansion (again, depending on your needs and redecorating status).
Entry Floor, all definitely available now (entered one flight of stairs from the - Big Kitchen, two dining rooms, two foyers, and living room. Five bedrooms. One bedroom is VERY large, with a King bed, and lots of seating. The other four have queen beds. This floor has two full bathrooms, and they are definitely available. The Kitchen has many pots and pans, blender, plates and bowls, glasses, cutting boards, cutlery, and microwave.
Second Floor (at least 5 bedrooms available NOW) - the main bedroom floor: Nine bedrooms, all with Queen beds. It also has four bathrooms, all with showers.
Top Floor - Five bedrooms, all with Queen beds. And two bathrooms, both with showers. This floor also tons of comfortable lounging space, with at least five couches, PLUS three twin beds.
Outdoors:
There are vast, beautiful outdoor spaces, with several furnished areas, in which to lounge and just enjoy the great many sunny days in Oakland (far sunnier than SF). It is VERY IMPORTANT not to be outside socializing (or otherwise making noise outside) after 9 pm. This is a residential neighborhood and this is required by law.
Interaction with guests
I love helping people have a great time in our beloved Oakland and nearby San Francisco. Please ask me anything you like. At the same time, I know many guests will prefer just having privacy.
Other things to note
Please see additional people charges. Those charges also apply to guests who don't sleep at the mansion. They will be reduced if people will be there for only a few hours.

Beautiful and truly unique place. Owner was very quick and easy with communications. All bathrooms are newly renovated while bedrooms maintain victorian chic. Great for friends/family reunions.

We had the most amazing time at the mansion. I hosted a 1920's murder mystery dinner party for my friend's birthday there and it was absolutely perfect. The house fit everyone super comfortably and the decor/ ambiance was perfect for getting into the theme.
I saw some reviews say the kitchen was small, but i disagree! We had ample space to set up dinner, make cocktails, and roam around to play the game.
I would recommend this to anyone looking for a place to host a larger group or dinner party. Everyone had a spectacular time!! Definitely one of the coolest parties I've ever thrown.
The host EJ was super accommodating and helpful. He let us check out later, which was much needed & appreciated when only staying one night.

Our extended family decided to take this historic place for our annual get together after Christmas, a time all 22 of us can get together. This year we decided to try an urban experience. (We are ranchers in the Central Valley of California.) This was our 20th year going somewhere, usually near the beach.
The rooms in the mansion are amazing, with architectural details everywhere, tall windows that let in the sun on a winter afternoon, with lots of space to spread out . We watched the San Francisco Forty Niner game one night, some played games, our son brought his guitar. The third floor enchanted out granddaughter from Tennessee, with areas to play games or sit around and visit. Beautiful dark beams cover the ceiling, and windows look out to the bay. The bedrooms are large, the beds comfortable.
There were a few negatives. The kitchen is small for a crowd, and has poor lighting in the evening, for slicing up onions or preparing something on the stove. However, we had pizza one night from Philomena, and it was outstanding. The only bathroom on the ground floor was in the middle of a remodel but we managed.
The neighborhood was noisy for two nights around New Years Eve. Lots of firecrackers and the sound of guns going off.
It would help if the owner could put up a hand rail along the steps leading to the entry.
I give it 4 stars because of the few negatives. Over all the house is beautiful and perfect for a reunion or meeting.

The property was perfect for my wedding weekend. The house was large enough to accommodate most of the wedding party - many of which came from out of town. The weekend was very special since everyone was under one roof. Additionally, we took our "first look" pictures inside the house since it's very unique with beautiful features. I highly recommend the house for large gatherings due to its size, beauty and proximity to Lake Merritt.

We took our group of 13 co workers to EJ's mansion in Oakland. The accommodations were perfect for us. Everyone had their own place to sleep and we didn't even use all of the bedrooms!
The mansion is exactly as described and there is tons of room for everyone. There are several living rooms and dining rooms, but we spent most of our time in the main living room where everyone was able to have their own seat where we were able to socialize as a group.
It was very hot during our stay, but the mansion stayed surprisingly cool. There were air conditioners on the top floor that we did use, but really did not need them on any of the other floors.
EJ was great to work with, quickly responding to our many enquiries before we arrived. He even met us on arrival to familiarize ourselves with the place and make sure that we had everything that we needed.
EJ's place is perfect for a corporate retreat and if we ever get a chance to return to San Francisco, EJ will be our first contact

There are some negatives: mold in showers, windows that won’t open and/or close, neighborhood’s sketchy, no outdoor gathering place for a large group to enjoy the beautiful weather, attic/game room took 2 days to cool. BUT if you can overlook the old home shortcomings, this place is cool and easily allows for groups to have a great time together while also having space for privacy.

We loved our stay here. This is our second time in this home and it is a great venue for our staff retreat workshop. Easy to get to restaurants, tons of street parking, lots of space inside the house to spread out and the kitchen is fully stocked for all of your cooking needs. The owner responds very quickly and the home is so beautiful. We plan to stay here again next year!

This house is amazing. It's gigantic and very cool. It's almost too big where it was a little creepy, but that just added to the fun! We had fun talking about ghosts! ha ha! The neighborhood is a little sketchy, but the house was worth it!

We stayed at the mansion during our wedding weekend. It was great for the family and wedding party. It is very spacious on the inside. There are a lot of beds. The check in was smooth and communications with the owner EJ is smooth. Location is quite convenient (albeit not an upscale neighborhood in general) The guests were all very satisfied . Thanks EJ!

Only was here for quick stay, but the place was amazing and it is even more impressive in person. EJ was great and I would definitely rent this place again.

This is a beautiful Victorian home with a long history. The space is gorgeous inside and out and very easily accommodated our group. EJ was a pleasure to correspond with and was extremely fast with his responses to our questions and very accommodating to our needs (we were able to arrange an earlier check in and a very late check out). The home is clean, has beautiful touches like double stained glass doors, original hardwood floors and paned glass windows.
Our group of ten (though we had anticipated for twelve) truly enjoyed the three level home with a large kitchen, huge attic game room socialization space, double dining rooms, comfortable bedrooms (9!) and very useful common areas. Our group was doing a department offsite, and needed a place where we could congregate in the same room, strategize and discuss work, and then just simply hang out. The living room with the half circle couch and two additional couches served as our base and we were able to work, talk and even later just relax. That is ten people very comfortably seated and could prob take a couple more. The home is located within a 9 min car ride to Piedmont where we had a lovely dinner before heading back to the house and up to the third floor for some air hockey and card games.
I would 100% stay here again for another offsite, or even have a reunion with some friends!

We fully enjoyed our stay. The home is breathtaking and EJ was great communicator and provided all details we needed for stay. We held our annual sales meeting here and was great venue with meeting rooms, kitchen, dinning rooms and plenty of bedrooms.

The house is fantastic. The kids claimed the third floor as their own, and we texted them when we wanted them downstairs. The living room was large enough for everyone to gather to open gifts on Christmas morning, and there were plenty of quiet corners to sit and read or visit. The large dining room seated 10 comfortably, the smaller dining room seated 8 comfortably, and the third dining room was our puzzle/game room. The runners ran to and around Lake Merritt (5 miles?) in the morning. Beds are comfortable, there were plenty of bath towels, shampoo, soap, paper towels, etc. If you want dish towels, washcloths, bar soap bring your own. Our only regret was that it was too cold to enjoy all the lovely outdoor sitting areas.

The house could use some updating, but it’s functional, and as long as you know what to expect it’s so fun (and big)!

This house is amazing! It’s spacious, clean & comfortable. It’s close to the airport & shopping. The neighborhood is quiet and parking was not an issue. The owner is pleasant and accommodating. I will rent this house again for sure!

My team had our retreat at this home and they were in love upon our arrival to the house. There are so many beds in the house (all of which are very comfortable) and the kitchen was amazing. The location was perfect as we spent most of our time in Oakland and then left on Thursday morning to head to San Francisco (which was a decent drive). EJ was amazing with coming by to help shut the windows and promptly answering any questions we may have during our time. My team has mentioned that if we do another team retreat in Oakland we would definitely want to come back to the house.

We had a wonderful time, everything was provided for us and was absolutely immaculate. Thank you!

We hosted 14 high school cross country runners and 5 adults at this mansion. Everyone absolutely loved and enjoyed their time here! The location was perfect! It is close to the Oakland airport, Oracle Arena, and the interstate to San Francisco, where we spent most of our time. The owner, EJ was accessible, patient, helpful, and very accommodating from booking to check-out. We couldn't ask for a better experience. Thank you so much, EJ!

This house was beyond our expectations! The rooms were way larger than we expected and decorated beautifully. The property had a secured gate which made us feel very safe. My biggest regret was not being able to stay longer. I loved the architectural detail preserved in the home, but would love to see some layers of paint removed from the moldings. Honestly, that's the only thing about the house I would change. Everything was above and beyond awesome. EJ was very flexible with booking and our needs. I really hope we get an opportunity for stay for longer in the future. I will definitely recommend this property to anyone I know staying in the Oakland area! BEAUTIFUL HOME!!!!!
