About this cabin rental
Paradise Found is brought to you by the creator of The Dog House and A River Runs Through It, which is located through the woods next door. This home has been lovingly remodeled to be the perfect couples retreat!
The Watauga River begins its 60 mile journey on the northern slopes of Grandfather Mountain and flows generally north and west into Watauga Lake on the North Carolina - Tennessee border. The word "Watauga" is derived from the Cherokee word "Watagi" meaning "beautiful waters" or "whispering waters". This dynamic riparian zone is actually a migration corridor for many varieties of fish, birds and animals and plays a significant
role in preserving biodiversity.
During good weather you can explore the river or try your luck at catching a variety of trout such as brook, brown or rainbow. This section of the Watauga River is now privately stocked and is exceptional for fly fishing! All fishing is single artificial lure, catch and release only. Live or scented baits are not permitted. Fly fishing guide services are available upon request. When it rains, the river rises and the kayakers come out to shoot the rapids.
A Paradise Found and A River Runs Through It are two log cabins that comprise a 2.75 acre complex with the Watauga River running through the center of the property. Both cabins were built of hand-hewn hemlock from Washington State and pine paneling from Watauga County. Access to the property is a tree-lined gravel road that was once a portion of the railroad bed of the Western North Carolina- East Tennessee Railroad.
The cathedral pine ceiling and skylights of Paradise Found create a spacious warm feeling as you walk in. The main level features oak floors, a wood burning fireplace, Bose entertainment system, HDTV with Roku streaming services and SlingTV for regular programming, a well equipped kitchen with both a Keurig and regular coffee maker, and spectacular views of the river. You will also find the large master bedroom with a hand-hewn hemlock beam ceiling, king size bed, flat screen TV and full bath. This cabin is accessorized with fine original art, antiques and old photographs.
Walk onto the screened-in porch and experience hundreds of feet of waterfalls, boulders and pools. Enjoy unique riverfront dining at the granite table with four chairs or relax at the sitting area or in the Hot Springs hot tub. The porch opens onto a large deck with expansive river views, a picnic table and gas grill.
Both cabins are conveniently located near the main artery that connects the ski slopes of Avery County with the exceptional antique shops of Foscoe with the rich history of Valle Crucis with the great dining and entertainment of Boone and Blowing Rock. Several whitewater and fishing guide services are also located nearby.
Guests returning to Paradise Found may have a 10% discount, not to be combined with other discounts to the rent.

Came to Boone on a short fly fishing trip. Didnt catch any at property but we fished successfully at surrounding waters. Very comfortable.

Great location just outside Boone, albeit just across the river from a very busy road. The rapid in front of the cabin drowns out the road noise, though. In Spring or Summer, the leaves on the trees likely block the view of the road. Cabin is nice and roomy for two. The kitchen and bathroom are updated. We had rain during most of our stay but enjoyed relaxing on the screened porch while listening to the roar of the river. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and would come back.

Super cute cabin for a couple to relax in. Love the water right outside the cabin. And screened in porch with a hot tub was fabulous! We will definitely be back!

The cabin was cute perfect size for 2 people. Bed was comfy, kitchen was great , and bathroom was huge. Plenty of closet space also. The screened in back porch was nice . The hot tub could be bigger and roomier. Personally I think there is too much furniture on back porch with a table, 4 chairs , two rockers, and a sofa with table , all that and the hot tub is just way too much. The outside deck area is very nice lots of space , sad that the lights on railing would not work though. The road to it was fine to drive , but be aware it is close to a main road and you can here traffic, but if your okay with that great. It is in a good location to travel to several close towns.
Now on a down side …. Sorry….. there were mice poison out around the house and we brought our two little dogs because it is a pet friendly cabin. There was also mice droppings in bottom draw of oven and the oven was not cleaned when we arrived it was filthy dirty inside. Also something got into some of our Bread on counter , assuming it was mice. The bathroom rugs were dirty and had to be washed also. Who ever is the cleaning company needs to remember to clean under things good also. I understand it’s a cabin but cleanliness should not be a problem especially when you’re paying good money.

We loved the design of the cabin and how peaceful it was. There was a little road noise across the stream but we didn’t mind since we were also close to town. Loved the experience and we plan to return.

Amazing little cabin tucked far enough away to feel private and secluded but only a short drive from town. Paradise found cabin is perfect for a couple’s getaway! Very cozy and rustic with all the amenities of home! We really enjoyed the fireplace and screened in porch with hot tub overlooking the water! 10/10 recommend this place!

The cabin was nice, the location was a little hard to get into and out of with a F250 pickup. Our first night we had and issue with a rat that had enjoyed some of our food. I would suggest maybe some curtains in the bathroom, I was not very excited about that. The creek being outside the cabin was really nice.

The cabin is great. Perfect for 2 and we had our 2 small dogs. The back enclosed deck and the side deck that has a swinging gate keep dogs safe and entertained. Only a couple of small glitches. First the "hidden" key was hidden. Thought it would be by front door but it's actually mounted on a wooden rail near front door close to front steps. The second was that the info book gives the password but not network name but we guessed right. Blueridge management was very responsive but I'm always more comfortable being able to talk to owner that knows more about property. I had to ask 3 times about the condition of the drive to the property worried that our low-riding Audi might have a problem. The drive into the property is along a ledge road and one lane so if a car comes the opposite direction you need to find some area where one car can pull over to so the other can pass. The actual driveway to the cabin is fairly steep downhill and can't turn around so you have to back out and manuveur a turn around. We found that by backing out then continuing straight until we could turn around in another cabin's drive was safest. The river with beautiful rocks and rushing water was amazing. There are steps that lead down to rocks and pretty easy to get onto rocks for up close and personal on the water. The cabin is equipped with great appliances and enough utensils and good knifes. One concern, for a child, the dishwasher will tip forward if top shelf is pulled out.

The cabin is amazing and the river view is unbelievable. We spend a week here to celebrate our 31st anniversary and to get away from everything and recoup. We did just that! We will surly be back to rent this cabin again…
PS: The road to the cabin was not bad at all as stated in some other reviews. I watched small cars and BMW’s drive up and down that road all week with no issues. Smooth gravel road that is well maintained.

The cabin was beautiful and well updated. The view of the river was amazing. The road leading to the cabin is a disaster. This made it very tough to get in and out of the driveway.

Listing is accurate and house was clean and well kept. The location with the river right outside your door is amazing. Would highly recommend.

Everything is as advertised. Short drive to a lot of attractions. Hot tub overlooking the river was awesome.

Beautiful cozy cabin right next to the Watauga river.
Kitchen newly upgraded. The view from the cabin looking out at the river below is amazing. Love the jacuzzi.
The kitchen needs cooking utensils, butcher block with cooking knives. Nothing to cut vegetables with or cut/carve meat with. Love that new fridge. Water not turned on at control valve to the ice maker. ??
Shower control is governed for a slight warm shower. Simple fix by adjusting the anti-scold fitting inside control knob. Everyone likes a hot shower. Shower curtain rod kept falling down. Again another simple fix, the spring loaded adjustable rod not holding up. I suggest a curtain rod that is resting onto secured shower wall fittings.
Overall, I LOVE this cabin !!
5.0
We loved the property, although there were a few things that could have been improved. The road that leads to the cabin is literally one lane, and it leads past some "interesting" dwellings. But the cabin itself is wonderful. Quaint and charming. The decks are spacious, the hot tub is clean and well-positioned. The only recommendations for the cabin itself are these: 1. Better chairs. We went in the winter for a quiet retreat. No skiing, and it was too cold for hiking. When you spend hours in a cabin, you want more than one place to sit. Other than a sofa, there wasn't a comfortable place to sit. And, oddly enough, every chair in the place was on wheels. On hardwood floors, that made sitting down a bit of an adventure. 2. More firewood would have been nice. We've done winter retreats in this area for years. Usually, a large supply of firewood is provided. This time we only had enough for one day. Still, all told, we would definitely go back.

The cabin has tremendous potential, however here are some things I wish I had known prior to renting. It is very much in need of updating. The dishwasher doesn’t clean therefore we had to wash literally everything before using. Food was stuck to the dishes, utensils, pans etc. the towels were thread bare and very scratchy. The hot tip looked clean but after getting in we discovered that the sides were filthy. The location is perfect. The owner could make a few changes - update kitchen, furniture, towels and make sure the hot tub is thoroughly cleaned and it would be a gem.

The cabin and our 3-day stay in it was, with 3 caveats, wonderful. 1. access to the cabin is via a very narrow gravel road with a steep drop off on one side; this was a tad imposing at night and during a rain storm; 2. the road noise from a highway across the river from the cabin was a bit of an annoyance; 3. the television did not get national networks (CBS, NBC, ABC or FOX). Were it not for these 3 issues, we would have rated this VRBO as 5-star. As it is, we have given it an overall 4-star rating.

The location is beautiful. The water and rocks are the best part. Quick 2 mile drive to town but seems secluded. We really enjoyed our stay.

Great cabin. Location just right and yet private. Easy to get to and in and out. Warm and comfortable Set up with everything you need.
The deck on the Wautaga was amazing.

It was quiet and peaceful.

"Paradise Found" is a cute and cozy cabin with a deck overlooking the gorgeous river. The cabin was very clean and had everything we needed for our 6 night stay. We made good use of the hot tub, fire pit, fireplace, and grill. Much of our time was spent on the deck or down by the river. My husband enjoyed fly fishing (with some success!) while I hopped the river rocks and found a perch for reading.
I cannot review this property without mentioning the busy highway right across the river from the cabin. The traffic noise was pretty constant, competing with the soothing sounds of the flowing river. I'm guessing that this road would be more of a negative in seasons where the leaves are off the trees and the traffic is clearly visible. But...everything is a trade off. Because the cabin is situated close to various roads, nearby towns, restaurants, hiking areas, etc. are readily accessible.
Overall, we very much enjoyed our stay and hope to return.

We loved this cabin ! Had everything we needed to cook
And we loved the hot tub and screen in porch over looking the beautiful river . Hopefully will be back !!

The cabin is perfect for 2-4 people, everything you could need, and the deck is to die for! The view outside the screened in porch is beyond stunning! I would absolutely stay here again.

Location! Location! Location….
Peaceful as it gets!

We visited with our two kids… the River provided days of fun and exploration. We spent our nights by the fire pit.
Close enough that groceries can be delivered on Instacart and dinner delivered with UberEats if you don’t want to cook. Close to top horseback riding locations and gem mining locations. Just great spot.
Only cons:
- the upstairs and the closets/towels were super dusty. I had to wash the blankets and towels from one of the bathrooms before we could use them they were so dusty. Maybe we were the first to rent it in a while? Not sure. But I wished there was a vacuum I could use to dust the curtains and such.
Also, animals kept getting into our garbage while we are there. We cleaned it up a couple times before realizing there is a service that comes and does it for you.

Great for a family!

The best part of this stay was definitely the river right off the back porch. My husband had a great time fishing and caught a few really nice trout. He learned that it is better to wait until the sun dries the rocks off during the morning to avoid slipping on the rocks. The house is definitely 2 bedrooms, not one, with a full bath for each one. Our dog loved it there. We asked for an early check-in and were told to wait for the morning of. when I did that, we got no response, so don't count on that. More explicit directions on how to get current TV would definitely be helpful for the technically challenged, which I admit we are. The house really does have everything you would need. It is very cozy and conveniently located. We definitely enjoyed our stay.
2.5
The location is simply unbeatable if you want to be in nature, but also 10-15 minutes from downtown. It was truly perfect for enjoying the location but also being able to be downtown for a nice dinner — something that can be a challenge in the mountains! I have been vacationing in the area for 10+ years and this was my absolute favorite location to date. The house was perfect for us. Well appointed, clean, and aesthetically pleasing. Absolutely will return.

Awesome spot by the River. Cabin was very clean and perfect for a couple or two couples to spend a weekend at. Hot tub on a screened in porch is a nice addition.

Great cabin on the river
This was such a great trip. We loved the cabin, it was very clean, well stocked and had the most amazing view of the river.

Fantastic Getaway
This cabin was awesome! The only complaint I have is that there is a main road on the other side of the river. It’s far enough away that you can’t really see people from the road. You can’t hear the cars over the waterfall, so it’s totally fine. Overall, the cabin was so wonderful. Everything was clean. The kitchen was well stocked with silverware, plates/bowls and cookware. Everything worked like it was supposed to. The hot tub was clean and warm upon arrival. My husband and I loved our stay and hope to return in the future!

Relaxing Getaway For Two
Paradise Found is a gem. The property manager and employees answered all of our questions and were super helpful. The home is right next to a river which was relaxing to listen to while on the porch or hot tub. Nice and clean and had everything we needed. We will be booking again for sure.

Very comfortable, picturesque and enjoyable
My wife, adult daughter and myself. Daughter (engineer) worked remotely. I loved the cabin. Very comfortable, felt very at home. The listing stated there was only one bedroom, but the pictures showed two. There are indeed two bedrooms. The one upstairs is tight, but not uncomfortable. The fireplace was very usable. (I previously rented an large, expensive cabin in Georgia with a beautiful stone fireplace...that I was informed after arrival that I couldn’t use.) The cabin is a great size. Comfortably cozy but never felt cramped. Wonderful screened in porch and connecting open deck. The River really is as close to the porch as the photographs indicate. I waded and fished. There were no amenities we lacked. It was winter with snow and ice. We did need 4WD a little on the road to the cabin and the drive (drive is short with a significant slope) due to ice and snow. For me, this was the best rental experience I’ve ever had. I’d love to go back.
