About this house rental
Live the dream at this oceanfront gem, with wide beach frontage and an inviting courtyard pool that beckons you to experience the ultimate Hawaiian retreat in style. Kick off your shoes and step barefoot off your expansive covered lanai onto a sprawling oceanfront lawn, and soak in the postcard perfect views of the turquoise blue Pacific ocean, framed by swaying palm trees. Relax in the privacy of your Hawaiian “estate”, located at the highly desired end of Puako Beach Drive in one of the most unique beach communities on the Big Island. Puako is an iconic and vibrant seaside enclave that is both in very close proximity to the most acclaimed luxury resorts on the Big Island’s famed “gold coast”--while being nestled away from all the hustle and bustle. Time truly stands still in this dreamy slice of upscale vintage Hawaii charm, offering the opportunity to explore the extensive Puako reef and tidepools just footsteps from your door, swim in some of the best ocean swimming holes of all of the Big Island, or wander along the shoreline trails that easily connect you to Mauna Lani resort, or the nearby Paniau shoreline, a popular and much sought-after surf and dive spot. Puako is also a short and easy drive to Waimea—to experience the very best of cooler climate “upcountry life”, complete with a variety of shopping, dining and popular farmer’s market offerings.
Comfortable and well-appointed, the home is breezy, airy, full of natural light, an open floor plan that encourages interaction, and an oceanfront lanai that can be accessed from all communal living spaces and the master bedroom. Directly opposite of the lanai and through large sliding glass pocket doors that let you “bring the outside in”, one is afforded a view of the courtyard pool, and a lush tropically landscaped environment allows you to simultaneously enjoy the sights and scenery of the ocean, while still being in the midst of all activity within the household. The modern kitchen is spacious and stocked with thoughtful touches that make meal preparation and entertaining a chef’s dream. There are multiple dining area options and seating arrangements throughout the home to create truly special gathering spots for meals, table games, or just general socialization. The open concept living room and dining room feature finely crafted furniture made from exotic tropical woods, a wet bar and wine refrigerator, along with a variety of media options. Bedrooms feature en suite bathrooms and are situated away from central activity areas for maximum privacy and quietude. Two outdoor showers feature copper rain heads and lava rock walls —a distinctly Hawaiian and Big Island feature.
The home is an art lover's delight, showcasing the works of esteemed Hawaiian artists and artisans, an interesting assortment of artifacts, and a wide array of culturally topical books for your reading pleasure. Escape with a favorite book of your own, or simply enjoy the joys of playing in the pool or exploring the vast Puako reef system and tide pools.
Take advantage of this opportunity to share the owner's personal retreat, where care has been taken to enhance your comfort and anticipate your every need. The perfect tropical indoor/outdoor living environment, that's great for sharing with family, favorite friends, or your very special someone.
Stays over a week require an additional interim cleaning and approval from the homeowner.

we had a lovely stay here on puako.
we are avid snorkelers and enjoyed the close proximity (two houses away) to easy water access.
the home is beautifully appointed with an especially well stocked kitchen—you will not want for any cooking utensils.
the layout provided our family of five with plenty of space to come together or have quiet space to yourself.
if you are coming in the summer months, be prepared for the hot weather.
holly, the property manager was close by and readily available for any needs we might have.
all in all, a lovely stay. thank you.

GREAT PROPERTY AND MANAGEMENT
5.0 / 5.0
It was our first time visiting the Big Island. My husband and I loved being away from the major tourist areas like Kona, especially after coming from Maui. The house layout worked great for our family of 5. Our 13yo enjoyed staying in the room detached from the house. Everyone used the 2 outdoor showers bc you have total privacy, even though there are neighbors on each side and people that have access to the rocks/beach behind the house. Even though we visited the bigger/popular beaches, the kids enjoyed the beaches/tide pools right behind the house where we saw many turtles and the waves weren’t too strong to snorkel. The house is stocked with beach toys, bodyboards, chairs, umbrellas, coolers to borrow. It was great to be able to use washer/dryers.
We have stayed at some incredible beach resorts and rentals, but the view and access to the ocean does not compare! Being able to fall asleep and wake up listening to the ocean in your backyard is unbelievable. We didn’t see any whales from the backyard, but we were told you can.
If it was easier to come from Texas, we would love to return to this island and specifically this rental annually. For now we just hope to come back one day!

Our family of four stayed at this home for a week. Everything about the property is lovely! Amazing location, terrific kitchen to cook, great area to lounge. Puako is a delightful neighborhood.
This home is clean and spacious and the hosts are easy to get a hold of if you need them. We did not want to leave and we would definitely return.

My family and I (husband and 3 kids) had a wonderful stay. It was so peaceful and beautiful. We did lots while doing nothing. The neighborhood is quiet and peaceful. There is a small general store in the same road, which was convenient. There are multiple public access points to the ocean, if you want sand. We got to see sea turtles multiple times right off the back yard, which was a dream come true. Definitely recommend staying here.

We have three teenagers from 13 to 18 years old. The two youngest bunked together in the office bedroom and the oldest in the attached queen room (with its own entrance and AC). We had the master, and everyone was happy. The pool and outdoor showers were also crucial to everyone’s happiness—we swam daily, several times a day. Even in beach days. Especially on beach days!
The house is as well appointed as it gets. Everything is labeled, and the management is super responsive without being intrusive.
In short, we had the best time and definitely hope to return.

The house, the property, and the view of the ocean were all stunning. Absolute paradise. Pictures can't truly capture how beautiful this location actually is.

It was a wonderful stay! First and foremost, the property was great. Atmosphere was also Amazing! Even with the strong wind and waves, we could feel the breath of nature.
We said hello to the turtles every day and they came to say goodbye to us in front of our house when we left.
The rocky beach was a little dangerous and hard to swim in, but it was wonderful.
The nearby hotels are great, especially the Mauna Lani. You can also walk to the Fairmont Hotel on a nice beach trail.
I also enjoyed manta ray snorkeling and watching manta rays from the garden of the Mauna Kea Hotel.
Also, I would like to say to the Japanese guests that there are Japanese items such as chopsticks and a rice cooker.
On a negative note, some light bulbs don't work, but that is not a problem.
However, the life jackets was a little dirty with blood and should be replaced. Perhaps someone had a minor injury on the rocks.
We would highly recommend this property and would definitely come back again!

This is a nice property. We enjoyed a very relaxing week.
It’s just too bad they don’t allow kids under 12. Our daughter would have liked to have joined us with her young son but it was not permitted.

My family and I really enjoyed the home. The owner was very responsive, the check in process was easy and we appreciated all of the extra info about fun things to do around the island when we checked in. The location right on the water made for some magical sunset views and our kids went out to the tidepools beyond the yard every day to see what was there. The tide pools did not disappoint - we frequently saw sea turtles, eels and whales off the coast. We would definitely come back. The unit did not have air conditioning but this was not a problem for us because there are a ton of windows that let in great breezes day and night and listening to the sound of the ocean was amazing.

This property has everything you need for the perfect vacation. Sunsets like you've never seen. Sea Turtles just steps from the back door. The kitchen is fully stocked with pots, pans, utensils, servingware, etc. Such a comfortable property with friendly property managers just a text away. We will be back next year.

Lovely well designed home in a great location. This was our second time staying at this beautiful family home that has great energy and beautiful art. We cooked (appreciated the very well-appointed kitchen), and enjoyed Thanksgiving here with three generations of family. We made daily trips to Hapuna (short drive) for boogie boarding and always love the snorkeling, tide pooling right out front. Thank you for sharing this lovely spot!

Beautiful home in a gorgeous location.
Wonderful ocean views. Great outdoor Lanai with tons of living space and lots of furniture. Ate all of our meals outside.
Great spot to listen to the ocean and watch the sunset.
A couple of great outdoor showers. We didn’t shower inside all week.
Kitchen is well appointed and has everything one could need.
Hapuna Beach is a short distance away and is great for snorkeling/swimming. The house has plenty of beach towels, beach furniture, floats, snorkel gear, etc.
We walked down to the Fairmont Orchid a few times for lunch and dinner.
Don’t miss the night snorkel with Manta Rays, truly amazing.
A few small critiques. It was very hot the week we were there. The Ohana bedroom has A/C but the rest of the house does not. We had many nights where the overnight temps were quite high and there was little breeze. Too hot for our liking. We slept in the Ohana most nights. Not an issue for anyone that doesn’t mind some heat at night but it was pretty sticky. So be aware if you like it cool at night.
There are parts of the home that could use some maintenance. Nothing major. Quite a few outdoor lights and pathway lights burned out. Obvious water damage in the guest bathroom. A ceiling fan in the kitchen was not working. Parts of the home are showing their age. Nothing that detracted from the experience and wouldn’t hesitate to visit again. Great home is a wonderful location.

The property was wonderful and had all the extras to make it an easy stay. Such an incredible view, access to the ocean and tide pools to discover right at the edge of the lawn. The house itself was very comfortable and plenty of space to hang out inside or out. Big kitchen with everything you could need and an amazing lanai to enjoy dinners watching the sunset. It is a truly special place, we cannot wait to go back.

What a great stay!
Beautiful home, outstanding view, great location in Puako. Well appointed home and very well supplied and furnished. Good snorkeling and easy entry into the water very close to the house. We were lucky enough to have turtles sunning themselves each afternoon of our stay on the rocks right in front of the house. We met the caretaker and the booking agent during our stay and they were both very kind and filled with the aloha spirit. We would definitely stay here again!

Perfect beach house
I highly recommend this property. Great customer service and communication throughout the booking and check-in process. The house was perfect for our family of 4. While you are close to Mauna Lani, grocery stores, Mauna Kea, etc., it feels very remote and private. The highlight was by far the sunsets each day from the lanai. We ate most of our dinners in so we could sit there and experience that each day. Truly beautiful.

We couldn’t have been more pleased with this property. It’s accommodations and location are perfect. It was a lovely site and private. Highly recommend it.

Nothing Finer
Prop. Manager, location, house, ocean access, amenities, beds, etc all A+++. You'll be in the kitchen, on the lanai, and in the yard the entire time that you're not in the water. Walk the beach path south to see those stuck in the tourist zoos, then return to the home and relax in privacy. You get what you spend and this is worth every dollar.

Peaceful Retreat
Beautiful home, excellent location, terrific communication w/the host and overall, a lovely stay in Puako. Great snorkeling access (just a few minutes walk down the road at the beach park), easy walk to the Orchid/Mauna Lani for cocktails, and a beautiful lani to hang out and enjoy the ocean view. We loved our time here and hope to return someday!

Wonderful in Every Way
Our stay started off well and never faltered.
After catching a 6:00 am flight and traveling for 15 hours, we were ready to settle in to the vacation. But, we had to spend another 3 hours waiting for our rental car - instead of getting to the house before 5:00 pm, it was close to 8:00 pm. I mention this only because Holly, one of the caretakers of the house, was still available to meet with us on our eventual arrival and took the time to show us around the property and to ensure that we were comfortable with the house and could find everything. She was great throughout the trip - non-intrusive, but available.
The house itself was perfect for our needs. Its layout was generous and spacious - we could be close as a family when we wanted, but there was ample space available to spread out as well. Further, there was no shortage of kitchen utensils, plates, cups and cooking gear for our family of 4. There were plenty of washcloths and towels and beach towels. We never felt the need for any such supplies.
The house has no AC and was warm, but every room has a fan and we were never uncomfortable. The temp "feel" on the lanai was always spot on and always a great place to be. The views from the back of the house out over the Pacific were simply amazing.
The house's location was also great. It is located just a few doors down from a large access point to a public beach, but seldom did anyone venture down the beach path in front of the house. On the other hand, we used the path frequently for the 15 minute walk over to the Fairmont Orchid where we had several dinners. This also gives you some level of access to those resort activities.
As to activities, the house was centrally located to tons of activities: with a 10 minute drive we connected with 2 snorkeling sessions, with a 15 minute walk you could be at the Fairmont Orchid, with a 20 minute drive you could be at at least 5 golf courses, within an hour drive we went on an equestrian ride, zip-lining and a helicopter tour.
In short, the only thing the property left us wanting more of was more time. We were very grateful for our time there.

This is a amazing home and location. Lots of peace and quiet and amazing sunsets.
This is not a home or location for kids! My youngest is 17 and we like to get away from people when we travel and she is happy with quiet locations. this is an amazing location for those that are looking to get away from people and enjoy the island. the pool is surrounded with gardenia and plumerias cooling off in the pool is so enjoyable. You won't be disappointed renting here. FYI If you like all the offerings of a resort then this is not for you this is for those that want downtime and quiet. this was an unforgettable family getaway for us!
Thanks for sharing such a wonderful home!!

Wonderful home in paradise
The home is lovely with beautiful art and furniture and a well-appointed kitchen. The beds were comfortable and with 3.5 bathrooms and two outdoor showers, it was great with 3 couples. The home is very private and has stunning views of the ocean looking west. Spectacular sunsets every night! The hosts were very responsive and hospitable! Everything went beautifully - I only wished that we had planned to stay longer! We will be back!

Absolutely wonderful property
My husband & I stayed here for almost a week with my 2 teenagers & my mother-in-law. First, the entire property is absolutely beautiful - even better than the photos, both inside & out. It has supplies for anything you could need. The house is located in a quiet neighborhood, but is only a short distance to any amenity you could want or need. The views (& sunsets) are incredible. Cannot say enough nice things about the hosts - so helpful & easy to work with.
The house is does not have A/C (except in 1 bedroom) but with the winds blowing in from the water & the fans, it was really not uncomfortable. Totally worth it to get the privacy & amazing location.
So peaceful & relaxing, we weren't ready to leave. Would definitely stay here again!
Thank you for an amazing vacation!

Delightful in all ways - definitely want to come back
We loved our stay at this beautiful Puako house and definitely hope to come back. Quiet, residential neighborhood, sprawling house with pool in the front, large yard in the back (looking out at the ocean), and great tidepools right in front of the house. Our routine was to get up and go running on the trails along the coast down past the Fairmont (1 mile) and Mauna Lani (2ish miles) away. Then we'd pack a lunch, get in the car and go to Hapuna Beach 10 minutes away to go boogie boarding. Then back to the house where we'd bring the lawn chairs and snorkel gear (that all come with the house) down to the lava rocks. Set them up there to read right over the water as the tidepools filled. We could watch a turtle swimming right through the totally clear water. Snorkeling is solid right off the front of the house (bring acqua shoes or wear the ones in the garage so you don't cut your feet). Scuba diving is really big there if you can go out a bit further. The best thing about the house is the indoor/outdoor feel of it. Entire living room opens up and you can close it with massive sliding screen doors if you want. Fall asleep to sound of the waves. Very safe neighborhood. Fully stocked kitchen. Had 4 boogie boards we could use. Really just fantastic. Property managers are terrific and host to let you in the house lives right across the street. Really hope to get back there!

Best vacation ever!
We celebrated our 40 wedding anniversary and this was the perfect house and location. Best VRBO house we have ever rented. It was just the two of us so we enjoyed everything being on one floor. The house was gorgeous the only thing that would have made it any better is if we owned it ourselves!!!!! The house was beautiful inside and out, and the kitchen was so much fun to cook in, we never ate out. We set outside most to the time and just admired the incredible view. You can't get closer to the ocean. The landscaping was just perfection, a personal tropical paradise. It was walking distance from the Fairmont, but you could walk back and have this place all to yourselves. The location is ideal to anything you will want to visit. We can't wait to come back and will only come when this house is available. Thank you so very much.
