About this house rental
Loads of space, sunshine, beauty and ultra fast wifi - perfect for your pandemic get-away work and study headquarters! Villa Alas Azules is nestled about an hour east from the capital of San Jose, in a gorgeous, picture-perfect hidden Orosi valley, one hour drive north to the Caribbean ocean, and an hour’s drive south to the Pacific. The estate rests at an elevation of about 4000 feet where temperatures couldn't be more lovely year round! Also fiberoptic high speed broadband wifi 200 mbps was installed in December, enough to conduct any work and school requirements needed.
Virtually all of Costa Rica’s rich treasures are within easy reach and under about 20 miles, from zip lining, canopy tours, rafting, rainforest tours, natural hot springs, waterfalls, to bird watching, hiking trails and star gazing. Even some of the country’s most important archeological sites like Guayabo, or the Ujarras ruins, and the still surviving colonial architecture in 10 minutes away small town of Orosi.
This spectacular home is uniquely outfitted on 9 acres with a basketball court, koi pond, Jacuzzi, edible vegetation (lemons, limes, grapefruits, bananas, coffee, eggplants, green beans, cilantro, peppers, tomatoes, etc), views of beautiful waterfall from the long front porch during the green/rainy season, fully stocked kitchen for cooking and serving, a covered gazebo outdoor kitchen with grill overlooking the valley, lots of walking and hiking trails, hammocks, badminton, croquet, Foosball, etc. There is TV with cable and DVD player, and hook up for iPod stereo music. During Easter, New Years or Christmas, there is a 1 week min stay & a $350 sur charge for high season. $35 per pet for the entire stay. $35 access to laundry room for your stay, otherwise its locked.
There’s loads of space for large family groups, or lots of privacy for those who prefer that. Small stores are less than a mile, larger grocery stores are located about 15 minutes away in Paraiso, while mega style stores like Walmart are located about 30 minutes away in Cartago, which you pass on the way from the airport to the property.
Local Costa Rican art is on display throughout the home and within the gardens. Note the hand carved columns at the gazebo, the benches, the stone carvings, etc. The home is handsomely and solidly built with hardwoods, glass brick, tile, concrete and stucco. The blue exterior paint on the lower portion of the house is one of the famous traditional ways of building a Costa Rican homes.
The home acquired its name for 3 reasons: the lower blue on its exterior walls, the two blue feathered peacocks that lived on the property for many years (Fred and Mathilda, who have since joined bird heaven), and the spectacular Blue Morpho butterflies fluttering into view on any given day.
An onsite groundskeeper tends to the gardens, while a cook and housekeeper can be affordably hired each day to make your meals and clean house (about $35 per day). Also available if you hire one of our approved guides to drive is a new in 2022 15 passenger van with large luggage rack on top for $650 per week. We can arrange airport pickup by local staff (email to inquire for prices) and to conduct tours.
Ask us questions, we love to help! We have so many more photos and videos to share.
We have had some problems in the past with 2 people renting the property thinking they could have dozens or hundreds of people to spend the day on the property, and we do not allow this. Each guest or visitor will be charged at the nightly rate, regardless of whether they spend the night. Also please note if there is an area internet outage, that this is beyond our control, and we cannot offer refunds. Note the caretaker has a small white dog, so you may occasionally see its white fur on the cushions of outdoor patio furniture. Additionally this is an older home that frequently hosts volunteers with an NGO doing work nearby; it is thus lived in, not a new hotel, and so its shows signs of frequent use.

Absolutely amazing experience for our family on every level!!! Host Kimberly and caretakers Luis and Federico was wonderful and responsive to deal with. The house was amazing and worth every single dollar for our special life occasion. This property is especially good for large groups, with lots of separate places to gather, though we were hard pressed to get anyone to move from that view on the front porch with all the comfy lounge sofas!. As an aside we especially liked climbing the canyon walls at escalada (sp?) and the hot springs at Chucaras. The nearby restaurant Cassona de Cafetal was spectacular view but service was slow.
We were nervous after reading a review that mentioned scorpions, but either that was an anomaly or was dealt with swiftly. Wifi was not as fast as at home, but in the end that made our whole group focus more on each other than our devices. Other than that, no complaints. Thank you again for the wonderful experience, we will definitely be back!

We rented the property to spend 4 nights from dec 29, 201to Jan 2nd our party included 8 adults 4 children between the age of 4 and 10 and a senior citizen aged 80.
We arrived to the property at aroind 6 p.m. and it is indeed a beatiful place the check in was hasle free as the caretaker was on hand to greet us.
The house and premises are nice but musty and humid which is normal for the topical setting.
Upon opening the door we we grewted by a Scorpion which we diaposed of. When we entered the home there was another scorpion inside which we also disposed of. We started to get nervous for our children. We managed to stay the night however early in the morning walking on the gardens adjacent to the patio and on the patio itself we found no fewer than 8 other scorpions some dead some still alive even small ones. Upon realizing that the property was infested with scorpions and very concerned and nervous for the safety of our children we decided to pack and leave the property. We considered it wasnt safe to stay there.
Before leaving we did contact the caretaker which stated he was aware of the scorpions but that hos orders.were just to move them away and not get rid of them.
I also contacted the owner Kimberly regarding the matter and her only reaponse was " Hi Raul, I am quite shocked. Did you show Luis? We have been there for 10 years and never seen one. Federico has been staying there with volunteers every month without a single issue so I am quite confused" which i find confuaing myself as the caretaker being a humble person told us his instructions from said Federico was to not harm the scorpions and to just move them away.
I have not received further communication or at least a note of sympathy as we were unable to.stay in the house due to the Scorpions.
This is a nice comfortable but be advised that if you have concerns about scorpions tuis is not the place for you.

Great home; wonderful weather--perfect temps. Property is clean and well maintained. Wonderful hiking on property itself--several fruit trees where you can pick the fruit and eat it right on the property. Lots to do in the immediate area--zip lining, white water rafting, beautiful waterfall hikes, horse back riding, coffee plantation (Chucaras), swimming holes, ROPES course, neat restaurants--open for lunch only--no dinner (fav restaurants include Bocaditas de Cielo, Casona de Cafetal, and Sanshari). Has many amenities of home--washer/dryer. Would love it if they could add a dishwasher and an outdoor grill.
This rustic home made for a wonderful vacation. It wasn't just a resort--you get a real feel for Costa Rica living. Thank you for a lovely home away from home!

We immediately fell in love with Orosi and the estate the minute we arrived. I was blown away by the constantly changing views in this valley. The house was perfect for our family of 20! We were conecrned about bringing our young kids and would there be enough to do??? Well... my kids had so much fun that they asked if we could live there. I don't know how to explain how amazing this place is... peacocks on the property, cloud forests, every tropical plant and flower you could imagine. And did I mention that the people of Orosi are so kind and welcoming. We will be back!

I've been asked by the owners to tell a little btit about my experience staying there, so here goes! M wife and I had been to Costa Rica several times over the past ten years. We enjoy the Pacific coast for its surfing, but do find teh heat and mosquitos can get to you, then a few years ago we decided to drive through teh central vallle and we were shocked to find this little piece fo Switzerland in Latin America! The house is beautifully crafted in historical style and includes everything we need for a stress free, fun filled stay. For example I really appreciate the fun, pretty, tasteful year round christmas lights hung in teh outdoor kitchen gazebo overhanging the mountain. We;re celebrating 40 years of marriage and have to say thatAlas Azules, this grogeois central valley property, has become an instant favorite of our lifelong travels.I coudl write more, but that sums it all up

Oh MY GOSH! This was such a fantastic experience for us, we will never forget it. It was especially wonderful havig a gorgeous calm view of the world in teh monrings before we all went daringly on the zip line tour, one fo oru favorite activities was takign a dip in the Chucaras hot springs and getting massages at rio Perlas. We all loved Federico and woudl highly recomend him as a guide to arrange things for you, he really seemed to care that we had a good, fun, safe time. We had him pick us up upon arrival since we came in at night and were worried we woudln't be able to find teh property late at night. We learned how to make a variety of costa rican coctails as we sat in the gazebo listening to the birds. Buy Cacique - it goes with lots of drinks. The caretaker Luis picked us limes from the property every day to put in our adult libations. I'd recomend they get more hammocks, as we only saw 4 hung and it is such a pleasant way to read a book and enjoy downtowm. We could have never left the property and been happy. Truly TRULY marvelous and stunning location, relaxing, calm, welcoming, and full of adventure. we visited Nano's waterfalls and i'd say its best to bring hiking boots as some of the rock gets slippery. We watcehd a few of teh movie at night that are in the movie file at night. we loved loved hearing teh drogs cvroackinga nd singing and courting each other at night. WE WILL BE BACK ! ! !

Thank you for making this such an amazing experience for us all. I was amazed that our entire family was equally enchated with the beautiy of the accomodations and that drop dead gorgeous setting! I'll never forget watching our little ones chase butterflies while the older kids went ziplining and the whole group went reafting together. I do wish it could hold perhaps another 10 more so that even more extendd family could have come - plans for the future! The internet access wasn't as fast as at home, but it was enough for us all to get what we needed done. I especially loved dining at Casona de Cafetal and having coctail hour at the Orosi mirador
