Hosts were fantastic.
Quick walk to bus stop for Hakuba 47.
15 min walk to bus stop for Cortina but the bus trip can take 2+ hours if traffic is bad.
Easy 10-15 min walk to Happo One.
Breakfast was appreciated every morning.
Only a 10-15 min walk to main road of restaurants.
Drying room had boot racks to help dry boots properly.
Cozy common room to hang out after a long day on the hill with dinner, drinks and good company available
The shower temperature was difficult to control, usually had to choose between a shower that was way too hot or cold and the water pressure was average. Bathroom was also on the small side but was usable for a story stay

Had a wonderful stay at Hakuba Matata Lodge for first visit to Hakuba Valley in 2024 winter season. The lodge is close by to shuttle bus stop and walking distance to shops in Echoland. The staff were friendly and helpful. Looking forward to returning for 2025 winter season.
Nothing. Hakuba Matata Lodge is a great affordable place to stay in Hakuba. Steep staircase up to lodge bedrooms may be a challenge for young kids but there is a family apartment on the ground floor.

Beautiful forest location, located right by the valley bus stop, amazing lodge hosts and lodge owner who all went out of their way to do things for us
The location is a little out of the Echoland centre so a little walk is necessary to head into town for dinner, particularly with smaller kids. But the trade off for this location is the beautiful forest location. Also the lodge owner allowed us use of an off road pram which made it easier to take the kids into town

very nice staff. super helpful. great bath in our room.
we would like new towels everyday. too bad no laundry service

Location. Short walk from all the nice restaurants along Echoland.

We had the loveliest stay at the lodge. The whole family were incredibly kind, fun and made us feel at home. They helped with any advice we needed, cooked us a delicious breakfast every morning, and brought us along to local yoga classes and pubs, truly went above and beyond. The lodge itself is so cosy and exactly what you want to come home to after a day in the snow. The comfiest, warmest beds and a wonderful common area to hang out in whenever you like. I'm so glad we stayed there and hope we can again in the future! Thank you to you three for being such wonderful hosts.

Cam and the owners were great. super accomodating and helped out, especially when we stuffed up the bus times.
hot taps were bit a bit touchy but I mean, it’s in the snow so what can you really do about it

Cam the lodge manager is an absolute legend!! helped us out getting to and from the lodge to the bus stop - breakfast was 11/10 and would happily pay money for the included breakfast we received, Cafe quality!!

Excellent location with shuttle's back and forth from each of the available resorts. Cameron was a fantastic host who helped us tremendously during our stay.
Bathrooms were outdated but we managed!

The breakfast was very good.
The lounge room was very comfy & convivial.
Very slippery just inside the front door @ impossible to put ski boots on with no seating.
Cameron our host did not give enough info for getting around or finding restaurants we could book into. We were not given assistance or advice on how to get to the Lodge from Bus station.
Onsen that is advised does not exist.

Cam and Susan did a great job of making everyone feel welcome and were very helpful. Breakfast was a great addition and always made a great start to the day. Would definitely come back and stay again.

Had an excellent atmosphere, and close to the shuttle buses.

Hosts make you feel at home. Breakfast is tasty and wholesome; sets you up for a good day on the slopes. The offer to pickup and drop off to make sure you get from/ to your connecting transport is very helpful. The hot tub in Rm.1 is very relaxing.
I've been spoilt by heated toilet seats in Japan. Would be nice if they had one also.

Susan and Cam were lovely, helpful, friendly hosts. The location is great, in-between two bus stops to the slops and walking distance from echoland restaurants. I would recommend staying here to anyone

clean. away from busy central town
free bus service to ski field
great breakfast and coffee, essential if sick of Japanese breakfast
noisy steps , expensive compared to some other hotels ( Shakespeare)

Host’s incredible hospitality. They gave us tips on where to snowboard and how to improve. Amazing people that elevated the stay to the next level.
The bathrooms were very small even by Japanese standards but was not a deal breaker at all

The best host ever. So caring, welcoming. I and my friend went to Hakuba for a sightseeing and hiking over the weekend and worked remotely for a few days. The lodge was comfortable, we felt like we are home. Everything was perfect, liked the tatami area

everything was very good and very well managed. From outside of the property as well as inside, it looks splendid. The room (number 3) was great for a family (2 + 1 baby). All possible items of daily use like small refrigerator, AC, hot kettle, hair blower and other utensils are already there. The size of the bed is also good for one person. USB cable charging slots are available in the room light stand. And most important, breakfast. it was simply delicious.
Well a very few things, like
The bathroom was very small and there was no wash late.
And in the room, the electrical point should be near the mirror or table, but it was far away.
4.5
Great place to stay and enjoy nature. very comfortable beds and great host’s
shower space area is quite small
