Sunset Suite Unit #1

Looking for a cozy vacation rental on the Oregon Coast? Consider the Sunset Suite at Otter Rock's Alpine Chalets: with space for two guests, this charming retreat offers an unbelievable location and all the comforts of home for a very attractive price.
The suite is a studio, with an open floor plan encompassing a living area, kitchenette, and bedroom nook. The living area has comfortable armchairs and ample west-facing windows!
Of course, you can also sit down for meals at the table as well! The kitchenette includes a fridge, stovetop, microwave, coffeemaker, toaster, and mixer, along with dishes and glassware, so you can enjoy preparing your own snacks and light meals. The picnic areas also offer two barbecues for summertime grilling! And the studio is dog-friendly, so you won't have to leave any family members behind (though a nightly fee per dog and a minimum fee per stay will apply).
Of course, the real draw here at the Alpine Chalets is the location! The studio is one of ten charming retreats perched on a small bluff above Beverly Beach, offering easy access down to the sand via a private trail. The chalets sit on a beautiful parklike setting, with plenty of space to play games, toast marshmallows over one of the fire pits, or enjoy a lovely picnic with the Pacific as your backdrop. From the bluff, you'll be able to see Beverly Beach stretch all the way down to Yaquina Head and its namesake lighthouse.
You'll find plenty of peace and quiet here, but all the shopping, dining, and attractions of Newport are just eight miles to the south.

The location was wonderful. Overlooking the ocean and central to varies towns. The property was well equipped BUT it was definitely not the cleanest. The flooring was very dingy and the furniture well worn. The location and price were so convenient we would want to come back. But the lack of cleanliness made our stay not as relaxing as desired.

The “Sunset Studio” feels thrown together in an odd use of space, lighting fixtures, and furniture. What they did get right was advertising the space for no more than two people. Even then, the mattress is so soft that two people fall into each other, and the slightest move rattles the other person. Neither the light nor the fan above the stove were in working order, and the fridge is smaller than what I had in my college dorm room. Half of the vertical blinds were either broken or missing slats, and there was a peculiarly high number of light switches for such a small space.

Starting with the positives...this group of cottages are located just a walk down a wooded path to a beautiful, large almost deserted beach. The unit I stayed in was clean, the bed was comfortable, and there was a quiet side seating area nice for reading in the afternoon. And it was nice hearing the ocean surf at night. But the cooking facilities were very basic and limited...college dorm size refrigerator/freezer, one bent kitchen knife. I like cooking my own food from fresh ingredients and you can fit very little into the tiny under-counter refrigerator. So if you stay here plan on canned goods (tuna, soups) and foods that don't require refrigeration (mac & cheese boxes) or bring a large good quality cooler. If this were in a town where you could eat at restaurants it wouldn't be much of an issue but Newport is a 15 minute drive away. Interestingly, decent supply of pots and pans but not a lot you can use them for. A few of the electrical outlets could use replacing. One in the kitchen where the toaster is had to be repeatedly reset and one in the bedroom where the nightstand is was so loose that the lamp cord kept falling out.
But like I said, the location just a short walk from one of my favorite beach areas on the Oregon Coast can't be beat.

The ocean is very near. With the sliding door open it is a constant roar. Loved that.

Cozy and situated near the beach with a private trail! Was great for staying with pets and going on walks. Great value for the price.

Mold in the shower/bathroom, fridge/freezer combo didn't work, parking rules are arbitrarily enforced. Suite 1 is a thunderdome if someone is staying above you in suite 2.
The short walk to the beach is really nice. Take the beach walk to the coffee shop, the road is sketchy to walk on and longer.

A fairly good view. Cozy. Quiet. Loved staying here and definitely will visit again!

Clean, has everything you need and just steps (like less than a 5 minute walk) to the beach. Otter Rock is very quiet and a good place to clear your head. It’s less touristy than Newport or Lincoln Beach but you’re conveniently located between the two. You can bring your own groceries, walk to the mini Mo’s or go into town for a restaurant.

My favorite aspect of this property was the location just a very short distance outside of the center of Depoe Bay. This makes the location ideal. All the amenities of Depot Bay are very close and convenient but you get to avoid the noise and congestion of being downtown. Also, access to the beach is PERFECT! A pleasant 1 minute walk from your door with private, grassy areas/picnic tables and BBQ along the way. When you arrive on the beach you are centrally located with miles of wide and open beach both north and south of your location. We look forward to going back. This will be our number one choice for lodging when we do!

Fishing trip
Didn't get to fish much because of windy conditions but had a extremely joyful and relaxing time staying at Otter rock cabin.

Homey and comfortable
This was such a nice, clean, comfortable place to come back to each night after our adventures everyday. The trail down to the beach was beautiful and the beach itself was almost private. It was close enough to Newport so if you needed to run into town it wasn’t a whole trip. The suite itself offered more than we needed i,e. cookware. We felt very at home during our stay.

Great Time!
We had a great time at Otter Rock, we stayed in a regular hotel room since we didn't need the extra space in a Chalet. It was a great time the beach is just a small path where you pass by a park area with bunnies! Enjoyed our stay greatly especially having access to a kitchen.

Was perfect for enjoying the ocean, all the amenities you need and friendly management! Thank you:)

Great location/Amenities need updating
Good location for anyone wanting a place away from the crowds but close enough of a drive if you want to check out Newport or Depoe bay.
Only cons I had is the fridge never got cold so all the food we had bought for our stay got spoiled and had to be tossed out so that was waste of $100 in the trash.
The toilet needs replaced, after you flush you have to make sure the seal in the tank closes otherwise the water keeps running I had to lift the lid on the tank to ensured it sealed correctly multiple times.
And just need a bigger tv.
Pros: great location and a great price and also quiet area no drive through traffic.

Great for a couple retreat
Loved that this place was just right for a couple who wanted to enjoy the Oregon coast and Newport. One note, the pictures show the chalets and this unit is not in a chalet, a little disappointed as we wanted a cute a-frame cottage. Also, there could have been a little better cleaning in the shower; there was hair on the shower walls (gross) but I cleaned it before using the shower. Overall the place was comfortable. Oh and there’s radiated heating, we went in December and it was cold, took a while to heat up the place, brr!

Would visit again
Unit 1 isn’t an A-frame, but there’s a little view of the ocean from the bedroom as well as a balcony. There’s a walking path/stairs down to the beach so you don’t have to drive somewhere else to enjoy the ocean. It’s nothing fancy but great for the price and location to Newport and Depoe Bay. Would definitely stay here again!

Ocean view?
We were very disappointed to find that the above Vacasa listing that showed ocean views wastotally overgrown with absolutely no glimpse of the ocean. We took pictures if you would like to see them. We contacted vacasa through their contact and 2 different agents said that they would get back to us right away. A week has passed and we still have had no contact. Perhaps you could follow up on the service they are providing.

we got what we paid for!
The location was lovely. We were lucky that the person staying in the unit above us was quiet. I had made several calls prior to our arrival regarding the concerns expressed in the July review and only heard back the day after our return regarding one of the issues. I called on each of the days our stay to report a safety concern or issue with lights not working properly . No one followed up with us while we were in the location. The unit appears to be '70s decor that has not been well maintained. I would not recommend staying here unless the prior concerns have been addressed and are well documented that they have been resolved.

Beach access is outstanding. Location to sights is outstanding. I love Alpine Chalets but not #1. Choose a different room.

Misleading listing
We thought we rented a chalet type bungalow but we actually got a downstairs apartment. The people above us were really loud but we were gone most of the time. We loved the Oregon coast and had a wonderful vacation. The drapes and blinds should be upgraded to cover the entire window, other than that it was clean and worked for our needs. It would be great if you could open the windows or if there was a screen on the sliding door to air it out and help with humidity.

TL;DR: place is not maintained, has mold and mildew, stay somewhere else!
So the good thing is it’s quiet here, unless you have people staying in the unit above you. Also, the bed is comfortable. Not so much the living room furniture.
This property is advertised as having a private view of the ocean to whale watch, but you can’t see the water from here, much less whales, because the trees and bushes are so overgrown.
There is broken molding throughout the property with nails sticking out, in the bedroom, closet, bathroom, etc.
ALL of the windows have broken blinds. They are missing slats and a couple of them are missing the turning rod to adjust them.
The bathroom window and sliding door do not have screens, so if you choose to open them, you let in the flies, too.
The curtains on the sliding door aren’t quite wide enough for the door, so there’s a few inches on either side or in the middle where they don’t close properly. You don’t have to worry about safety, but if you don’t want the sun shining in, tough.
The carpet is filthy and stained (lol they want you to take your shoes off…not with those stains!) and I found stains on the bedsheets.
There is mold and mildew in this unit. Instead of getting a romantic getaway, we are dealing with my husband having breathing issues because he has asthma and allergies to mold.
The tiny little dresser they provide for your clothes has 3 drawers, and only one drawer works. The middle drawer’s knob pops off when you try to use it and the bottom drawer is warped so it won’t open easily. Also, they only provide 3 hangers in the closet for 2 people for a week stay.
This place is also very dark, not all the lights work and the walls are dark. I could have dealt with just that but it just kept getting worse.
We could have gotten a nicer place for less in Newport or Depoe Bay or Lincoln City and not wound up with health issues.

This property is wonderful for its location, proximity to a beautiful beach, and value. One thing to note is that it does not have an ocean view because the shrubs have grown up to cover the view. We were disappointed by this, given the description here. However, the studio was more like a one-bedroom apartment, and was surprisingly spacious. Although it looks like it hasn't been renovated since the 1970s, it's clean and well-maintained. Definite "vintage" vibe, but I chose it because it is pet friendly. They maintain a beautiful trail down to the ocean with plenty of grassy space, and the trees are beautiful. However, the Expedia description made no mention of the pet fee which is per pet and per night. I wasn't informed of this until I received an email a month after booking, and because the email came from Vrbo and Vacasa, and not Expedia, I assumed it was spam. The pet fee should be made clear instead of simply stating "dogs welcome" and the emails should come from Expedia when booking on Expedia, not another company entirely. Communication was therefore not great, although once I established that the Vacasa emails were indeed legitimate, those people were responsive.

no ocean view but great location
The room was well maintained, spacious, and clean considering that is not renovated and very dated inside. The best thing about the property was its location and easy access to the beach. However, there was no ocean view even though it is advertised this way.

Good location and fair price
Although the property and furniture was older, I was impressed with the cleanliness and presentation. I felt that the price was fair and I liked how the location was not right in Newport but only a short 10 minute drive from there. Overall 8/10 rating.

People above you
I rented this for my birthday cuz it was described as a solo cabin rental on the beach. There is a path to the beach but it ends in stairs and logs. There was people in the room above with yappy dogs and could hear them walking. Not worth the drive in and out of town.
Room was comfy and clean and stayed warm tho. And us close to devils punchbowl

Very Pleasant Stay
Comfortable, cute apartment. Onsite property manager of grounds was very welcoming and helpful. It was well kept up, and quiet. The apartment and other units were off the street, so quiet. There is a private walk to the baech with nice grounds. We had a large group above us that had dogs and were a bit noisy, but they obeyed the noise rules.
The unit has a comfortable bed, with great linens and basics for cooking in the kitchenette. The sofa is old and not comfortable. There is not any view sitting on the balcony and property manager is working on a solution to improving the view. This was a great location for us and beaches with streams for rock hunting.

New Year Getaway
We were pleasantly surprised by location, size and condition of the unit. It was quiet and private. Close to many things. And the walk to the beach was quite quick and easy. We were disappointed by the view - DEFINITELY NOT able to sit in the loveseat or arm chairs and see the ocean. Nor could we see it from the bed. If we stood or sat at the dining table, the view was stunning. Not exactly what was advertised. We also expected more than just two small burners for a stove - difficult to cook on. Many higher dust webs throughout the unit. All that said, we would book again. Just with slightly different expectations. Vacasa checked in with us via email and phone during our stay so customer service was great!

Private and quiet area and cute space.
Love being away from lots of people. Nice trail to great beach.
Clean and plenty of room for two plus our dog. Double bed not to comfortable. It could be replaced with a queen as there is enough room. Only real complaint was the water for showering was only slightly warm and not hot enough for washing dishes. But all in all, a nice get away for a few days. We will be back!

Perfect for us
Loved the easy beach access! This place is just off the beaten path but not too far from Newport. We really enjoyed being able to take a quick trip into town but not having to deal with town. The fact that our dog was welcome was a special treat too.
