About this apartment rental
AWESOME! 180º UNOBSTRUCTED BEACH, OCEAN, AND SUNSET VIEWS! BEACHFRONT! LIGHT, BRIGHT, AIRY, AND SUPER CLEAN CONDO! NO RESORT FEE*FREE PARKING IN GATED LOT*FREE INTERNET/WiFi POOL-HOT TUB-TENNIS-PICKLE BALL-PING PONG-BBQ
**No central AC--has portable AC in bedroom, but it will not cool other areas. We have ceiling fans, stand fans, and great cross-ventilation along with wonderful trade winds (most of the time--no guarantees on trades). Please let us know that you are OK with the AC status when you request to book.
When we say BEACHFRONT, we mean absolute beachfront! The PRINCESS BUILDING sits smack dab on the beach in the photo! It's the most beautiful beach on Oahu.
A secured 16-story building (2 elevators) with pool, hot tub, tennis, outside BBQ area, Rec Room with ping pong table.
This is a *BEACHFRONT* One-Bedroom/One Bath (tub/shower combo) Condo on a low floor (but NOT the ground floor) of the Hawaiian Princess at Makaha--the Cadillac of the Entire Leeward Coast! It has a lovely lanai with unparalleled 180º beach/ocean/sunset views. Lanai sunshade.
King bedroom and queen-size sleep sofa in living room. Fully furnished full-size kitchen with full-size appliances (fridge has icemaker) and all the necessities. We supply all dishes, pots 'n pans, silverware, toaster, regular drip coffeemaker (we furnish filters), microwave, and a blender for making those onolicious Hawaiian fruit smoothies. We also have a dishwasher, 2 TVs, ceiling fans, stand fans, washer/dryer, iron/board, all linens (including beach towels), hair dryer, beach chairs, mats, boogie boards, snorkeling equipment, beach umbrella, and cooler. The spices in the condo vary—some guests buy new and leave-so we never know exactly what is there—best to check first and then buy accordingly. We even provide binoculars for in-condo use--watch right from your lanai as the whales (in season), dolphins, and giant sea turtles put on a show!
THE PRINCESS IS A SMOKE-FREE/ANIMAL-FREE COMPLEX! Smoking is NOT ALLOWED in the units, on the lanais, in/at the corridors, elevators, pool, rec room, BBQ area, or in the lobby! Smoking is permitted ONLY in designated smoking area with umbrella table and chairs located well away from the building.
Out of respect for our neighbors, some of whom are full-time residents who treasure their peace and quiet, and others are vacationers who want a quiet period of relaxation, we allow no visitors. Only the registered guests may occupy condo.
We require a Rental Agreement with a simple, short basic information form that needs to be filled out, signed, and returned to us before Arrival Info is e-mailed to you. This document will be e-mailed to you immediately after confirmation.
Makaha is on the NON-TOURISTY side of Oahu--very much "OLD" Hawaii--nothing new or fancy here! Our location is out on the beautiful Leeward Coast with its incredible beaches. This is NOT a touristy location, and it is about a 45-minute to an hour's drive, depending entirely on traffic, to Waikiki & Honolulu.
ALL MAJOR ATTRACTIONS ARE A LONG DRIVE FROM CONDOS.
ALL HAWAII BEACHES ARE OPEN TO THE PUBLIC; however, since there is not much public parking in the area, our beach is generally not crowded. The Princess has NO control over who uses this beach. There are homeless camps along the coast island wide, but not on our beach.
Makaha has lots of fast food and ethnic restaurants (be sure to try BEACHHOUSE 604, a guest favorite where you can eat outside by the ocean--watch for the dolphins). Spicy House in Maili has wonderful Thai food, and it not too far from condo.
There is fine dining only 20 minutes away at Ko'Olina and Au'Lani Disney Hotel. Kapolei is about 20-25 minutes away, and has MANY great restaurants and really nice shopping. There is a water park in Kapolei. All drive times are subject to time of day and traffic of course.
World-famous Makaha Surfing Beach (home to international surfing competition) is just a very short hop down the coast from the condo.

We’ve stayed here (at the complex) twice now and will most likely stay again.
The “just about private” beach was what lured us back.
The downside was the drive thru town seeing the homeless population and garbage. Its very disheartening. It looks worse than in 2021 when we first came. There seemed to be more police activity and sirens.

Staying along the beach at the Princess was amazing. Evening sunsets were incredible. The beach was easy to access and never crowded. Pristine coastline, nature at its best.
As mentioned, condo is not fully air-cooled but our stay was pleasant with the breezes and fans made available. We would stay here again without hesitation.

The property is as described. There are homeless in the area, but they never bothered us. We used the A/C in the bedroom our first night there, but after that, there was always a breeze. The waves at this beach are POWERFUL! We were not comfortable swimming here, although we saw plenty of people in the water. We drove a couple of blocks down to a more kid-friendly beach.

If you are needing some serious beach time, this is the place for you. Our condo was well equipped with an accommodating host on site. We have been visiting this beach for many years and highly recommend this condo.

We had a pleasant stay at the beachfront condo. The beach was in our backyard and our kids enjoyed playing there. We used the sofa bed in addition to the main bed.
Don and Pat were very helpful in answering all our questions. The security folks at the condo were also very helpful. As the description says, there is construction work which can get noisy. And it is also on the west side of the island, which might make it a long drive if you want to spend more time exploring the rest of the island. We enjoyed it there and felt refreshed by the ocean!

The location is great in terms beauty, relative quiet, etc. There are sufficient nearby amenities to stay local, and Honolulu is a manageable drive for dinner or a beach day on Waikiki.
The apartment has all the basics and an unbeatable balcony facing the beach. It's nice being in a place with a full kitchen. They also have chairs, umbrellas, and boogie boards for use, which is very handy.
If you're a picky prince/ss please know that the apartment has not yet received the millennial makeover it so richly deserves.
During our stay I let the hosts know that their kettle was leaking, and it was promptly replaced with a new one.
For me, the presentation of information and communication with the hosts was a bit excessive, but they are clear about what they want you to do, so that's a plus.

Great location. Comfortable bed. Resort is safe and offers a lot of amenities. Condo is well stocked with anything you need. Good communication with owners. We enjoyed our stay and would stay again.
1.0 / 5.0
1. The condo was not ready at the check in time of 4:00pm. We had landed in Honolulu at 11:00am and were actually hoping to arrive a little early.
2. Then the real bad thing is the place had roaches-or something close to those. They were slightly over 2 inches long-BIG. I killed the first one we saw. Then the next night, I almost stepped on one going to the bathroom at night, I tried to smash him, but missed and he ran under the refrigerator.
3. MY WIFE AND I DECEIDED THAT WE DID NOT WANT TO LIVE WITH BUGS OF THIS SIZE, SO WE LEFT THE CONDO AND HAWAII 2 DAYS EARLY. We did inform the owner of our decision, and he said that he was going to have the condo “bombed” to kill the bugs. Now some might not know what that means, but I happened, to have lived in a very old apartment when in college that had roaches and they had to bomb it. You must leave the place for at least 24 hours and when you return you have dead bugs all over the place, and the strong smell of insecticide
4. The contract did say that the AC did not work, however with the trade winds you rarely need the AC. WRONG. We were there in the middle of October and it was still upper 80’s and AC was needed. The bedroom had a window unit, that was supposedly used for sleeping only, but not to used during the day. First, you could not sleep with it on as it 4 feet from the edge of the bed on one side and at bed height, it was noisy and would blow the air right on your head. The AC was not in the process of being repaired.

My wife and I stayed here for a week. It was so nice! Very quiet, felt like a hidden area…which was great.
There are quite a few homeless areas close by, but this beach is a private spot with a perfect view!
Great communication with the owners through email and texting.
We felt safe and enjoyed our time. Can’t wait to come back!

Spectacular view felt like we were on a private beach. That was the a five star view and beach. The condominium was very well stocked. It was clean. A positive for us was out of the hustle and bustle of Waikiki in Honolulu. If you’re looking for a five-star resort, this is not it it’s very dated but very comfortable. We felt safe the whole time during our visit. The only reason I gave it a four-star is there is no AC expect for a small window unit in the bedroom. I would stay again if the AC worked. The couch was awful. July 2023

If I was told I would spend a month in jail for staying here and other month in jail for going to the beach, I would spend 2 months in jail. It is that worth it.

Everything was great, the view was the best of all. We enjoyed our stay. The only thing was lots of homeless people along the beach outside the property down towards town.

Great unit. Beautiful views. Very clean. It had everything we needed. This is our favorite beach. My only complaint would be the bed as it was uncomfortable. Everything else was wonderful and easy. Very relaxing and quiet.

Wonderful condo and location. Saw my first ever sea turtle and watched more playing in the waves along the rock cliffs. Could not have asked for a better stay!

Amazing sunsets, ocean views and people! Me and my husband stayed there with our 6 and 9 year old and it was perfect. From the pool to the beach to the bbq and beyond this place is great. The location gets you quickly to the beach, food, shopping, shave ice and more. Highly recommend you stay as long as you can. We didn’t want to leave and will definitely be back! Mahalo!

We booked this property for the view/beach and to be away from the busy tourist area of Honolulu. The property managers were excellent to deal with & very informative. The unit is small & a little dated, but was clean. The view from the lanai and the beach were amazing! The area around the condo (street side) is a little loud & kinda shady. Not the best part of the island. In my opinion, you wouldn't venture out or walk around outside of the gated property/beach, but we didn't have any issues with this.

We did get confused with the location, went to the first building we saw instead..read the instructions. View and Beach are great, we saw Turtles swimming in the waves almost every day, we saw dolphins swimming with the tour boats, we saw Hump backs every day we were there. The location is on the West side, there are homeless camps everywhere, ask a local why and they will tell you some stories. There is a homeless camp within view from the room, however we only saw them occasionally. During our stay this beach had LARGE waves and was hard to swim unless you are used to it. It is a 30-50 minute drive to Honolulu but is almost all highway. You can NOT get a better view of the sunset anywhere and from your own room...that was the best part. So many more things to say, it was just a great room at a great price. We did have to leave a full 7 days early due to death in the family, didnt get any money back but that is OK. thanks again !!

The place was perfect. The beach is a little out of the way for most tourist, which keeps it as private as possible for a public beach. At its most busy there was maybe 10 other people out on the beach. The condo was perfect for a couples retreat. The view for sunsets is breathtaking. You can see turtles in the waves from the room and it was quiet during the nights. The bed was a little harder than I prefer, but not bad if you like a firm mattress. And as the listing says there is no central AC, but also as the listing says keep the lanai open with the screen door closed to let the flow in and there is a fan and window unit in the bedroom and that worked perfectly fine keeping the room cool enough to sleep. Overall the place was amazing and perfect for couples or smaller families looking to stay away from the more crowded beaches. Highly recommend and we will be back ourselves for sure.

We have a mixed review of this property. The condo is well stocked, on a beautiful beach , in a clean gated property. However the week we were there it was 87 degrees outside during the day. The Air Conditioner in the unit could not keep up so it was 86 degrees inside during the day and never below 80 degrees inside at night. The renters before us had a similar experience. See their review. We paid extra fee for AC so very disappointed. I did not want to spend my vacation time trying to get AC fixed so did not contact owner during stay. We feel owner was aware prior to our stay based on previous renter review. We spent most of the time not in condo. We did email owner after we got home. Owner was to trouble shoot AC and get back with us. Did not hear back. We wanted to come back next year but not if AC issue hasn’t been resolved.

Property was clean and just big enough for my husband and me. The views from the balcony are so beautiful. There was beach equipment available, chairs, umbrella, boogie boards. There are grocery stores nearby and restaurants. We were able to get to the tourist spots in an hour or so. We had a great time and send our thank to Don and Pat. Hope to get to enjoy again. What can I say, this place made my first trip to Hawaii perfect. Gorgeous views to wake up to and relax before starting our day exploring the island. Then returning after our adventures to enjoy the amazing sunsets in the most peaceful setting. Had everything we needed to enjoy our vacation. Excellent communication with the host as well. Thank you! Would definitely recommend this condo. Mahalo!

This property was just right for what we were looking for: remote (away from the tourism), private with beautiful views and crashing waves to lull us asleep at night. There was excellent communication from the property owners. We had a really nice stay!

Good time.
The view from the condo was awesome and deserves a 5 star rating. The listing detail and pictures were accurate. The unit is a bit outdated but clean. It had nice towels, which I liked.
We knew going in that it would be a drive to get to places, but it was a bit more than we thought. The beach was away from the tourist area and that’s what we wanted, but wished we had stayed a little closer to the major highway.
We also knew going in that the AC was not ice cold but assumed that if it was called an AC that it would actually cool a little bit. I imagine, as many have said, that during most of the year the trade wind keeps the unit at a comfortable temperature, but I guess in July, this is not the case. During the day, the condo was 82-86 degrees with the doors open, and when we tried the AC, it actually got warmer. Fortunately there is a portable AC in the bedroom that we could use during the night, otherwise it would’ve been difficult to sleep.
The other issue that we had was that because we had to keep the doors open and the condo is on the second floor, we heard everyone on the beach below. One day a family set up right below the balcony and blared music and there was no way to shut out the noise. It was just one day, but still annoying. We weren’t at the condo much during the day as we were exploring the island.
Otherwise, we had a nice stay. The owner/manager was responsive and communicated well the details about the condo.

Everything I Hoped For
Picture this - walking out on your lanai 7am in 80° weather and looking at the most beautiful view of the sand and waves.. just out of a picture book! This place is literally on the beach just as the photo shows. It feels like a private beach.. the most people at one time I ever saw was about 8 - small groups gathered one day to see “rogue waves”. We chose this location specifically for this. Seriously, having breakfast on the lanai, with the whole beach to yourself, the sound of the waves, the gentle morning breeze… it puts you in the zone.
We ventured all over the island for different events - Parasailing, Zip lining, shark cage diving and a luau. And then we get to come back to the peace and tranquility that this little gem offered - this was just what we needed.
One person mentioned the condo was dated, and I suppose it is. But it’s charming, and in my opinion a bargain. This place is a little oasis.
I definitely recommend my friends and family. And anyone who reads this 😉

Awesome Beachfront Property
Property as advertised and photos were accurate. Pat and Don were very detailed from start to finish. Communication was very clear. The place was perfect for our stay, my children loved sleeping in the pull out couch. You can see the sunrise and sunset from the unit and you feel like you are being rocked to sleep by the relaxing waves and waking up to the sound is the best. Awesome view from the lanai and beach access was a few steps away. It had everything my family and I needed, beach chairs, towels, cooler etc. Property was gated and tenants were friendly and pleasant. Close to stores and good restaurants to check out. We plan to book again on our next visit. Thanks Pat and Don!

Sets the Standard for Beach and Ocean Views
This condo has all the comforts of home and everything you need, well away from the hassles and hustles of Honolulu and Waikiki. The owners have thought of everything! The view of the beach outside and the sunsets every night will set the standard by which you'll judge every other beach vacation you've ever had or will ever take. Makaha is a ways away from everything. This is the perfect spot if you just want to spend a week on a beautiful, uncrowded, and pristine beach just off the deck. Hit Costco on the the way in and then Longs Drugs just down the street for the rest (including small food items). If you want to visit other parts of the island, know that it will pretty much be a long drive to just about anywhere. Homeless camps on public beaches take away from the beauty along the coast which can keep one from exploring locally more or from walking the neighborhoods for exercise, but the property itself is gated, very clean and and very safe with 24/7 security.

Wonderful first trip to Hawaii!
The property was exactly as described, and is located on a wonderful beach that is not overcrowded. The bed was comfortable & the lanai was great! We were able to do a little snorkeling right in from of the condo. We rented a car, and saw a lot of other attractions on Oahu, but due to the mountains in the middle of the island, the driving took up a lot of time. Everyone we bumped into at the condo was friendly & offered us some great tips! The homeowners were very strict about the 4pm check-in time even though the condo was cleaned & ready before that. We had a very long day of travel, so it would have been nice to get in a little early. All in all, a great experience!

Great Sunsets and Ocean Views
The Hawaiian Princess is an older property which is dated and in need of upgrading. Our condo offered a spectacular ocean view and the large beach was quiet and secluded.
Our condo was sufficient for our needs but was also dated and in need of upgrades which we have brought to the host's attention. We did not feel we got the best value for the price of the condo. After communication with other residents living in similar accommodation, we realized that we grossly overpaid.

Perfect little out of the way space
It was perfect for my husband and I. It has everything you need and it's great that you don't have to worry about bringing everything from lawn chair to towels. They made the whole process as easy as it can be. We were looking for something quite and not a lot of people. This is what that was! The only thing I would say is that the bathroom could use a refresh but it is completely functional!
