If you have to stay in touch with the office, don't fret. Hook up to the wireless network high speed internet, plus make unlimited long distance calls within the continental U.S.
OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES GALORE!!!: There are plenty of activities close by including horseback riding, biking, mountain biking, white water rafting, snow skiing and tubing, sledding, ice skating, hiking (including the Appalachian Trail just 15 minutes away), fishing, golfing, shopping/strolling in Boone/Blowing Rock, or sightseeing and other activities at many outdoor parks anywhere from 10 minutes to 45-60 minutes away. Grandfather Mountain, Chimney Rock and the Blue Ridge Parkway are a few of the more well known destinations, but there are plenty more to be discovered. Bring your bikes and ride on Sink Valley Road right in front of Waters Edge, or transport them to biking trails in the area, including one near the Mast General Store outside of Boone, North Carolina and the Virginia Creeper Trail out of Abbingdon, Virginia to the north. And if none of that interests you, just sit back on one of the four decks and take in the beautiful scenery of the lake and mountains. Or turn on your favorite music on the outside speakers.
NOT SO OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES: For those who are not into outdoor activities, there are plenty of other activities. The Butler Museum tells the story of Butler, The Town that Wouldn't Drown! The town used to be at what is now the bottom of Watauga Lake. Old structures, signs and roads are explored by avid scuba divers. In Boone, NC near Appalachian State University and in Blowing Rock, NC, there are plenty of shops with arts, pottery, clothing and collectibles. There are also quite a few excellent restaurants. For bigger city shoppers, Johnson City, TN is not far away. Before you get to Johnson City is Elizabethton which has its own set of smaller town shops, restaurants and even an oldies car show downtown on the weekend nights in the warmer months and a drive-in movie theater!
YOUR VACATION ESCAPE: Escape to Waters Edge for a true retreat in the mountains of Tennessee and nearby North Carolina! The lake and national forest are at your doorstep. This lake home is truly waterfront with its own dock in the backyard. Bring your own boat or rent one nearby. Keep it at the dock which is just steps from the cabin down a winding sidewalk. Join our group of guests who say Waters Edge is the best cabin on Watauga Lake, and keep comin' back!
Fall colors abound around Waters Edge and in the vicinity. Panoramic views are found in any direction you drive.
During the winter, there are 4 ski slopes within a 40 to 50-minute drive. Enjoy the challenge and bustle of the slopes during the day, then escape to your own private mountain lake home. You will easily be able to unwind and relax in front of the home theater system, stone fireplace, Jacuzzi, or fire ring by the lake.
The calendar fills up quickly and well in advance. Make your reservation today and come escape and relax at WATERS EDGE!!!

We have stayed here before, and it suits our family perfect.
Three levels so there is plenty of room to spread out. Two refrigerators will make your day much easier to manage. The cove does not have a current like a lot of them. Swimming off the dock is perfect even with a 25ft pontoon boat attached. We will be back next year!

The property was beautiful and right on the end of a quiet inlet on Wattauga Lake as described.
My husband and I took 90 year old (but mobile) grandma, and son's family with our 4 year-old granddaughter.
The very steep and multiple steps did prove challenging for my mom, so keep that in mind when booking.
The main floor great room was beautiful with a wellstocked kitchen and comfortable furniture. My son and his family really enjoyed the kingsize bed in the master bedroom.
However, the Queen bedroom located off the loft has no bathroom on that floor, and it stayed quite warm up there while we visited, so my husband and I wound up sleeping in the twin beds in the lower level while my 90 year old mom slept in the other lower level bedroom.
The floating dock is wonderful and we were able to bring our boat from a nearby free boatlaunch. Swimming off the dock was lovely.
The provided canoe and kayaks were fun, but one of the sit inside kayaks had a small split in the bottom of the bow, and the sit-on-top kayak was missing a stopper-- which allowed water to get inside. Hopefully these issues will have been fixed by the host, but check before launching.
Overall, we had a wonderful time and the area has lots of outdoor fun things to do.

We had a wonderful time in Butler at this beautiful lake house. The beds were comfortable and we had everything we needed as we were away from home. The lake is amazing, a perfect place to relax, unwind, and reconnect with family.

This was the perfect family vacation site. As grandparents we wanted ti create fond memori s at a place that offered a peaceful, scenic, safe, and comfortable environment. We found this and more staying at the Waters Edge. Watauga lake is beautiful and we spent hours swimming, kayaking, and lounging on the decks. Our grandchildren dubbed one of the two walkways down to the water as Candy land. There are a lot of steps but we managed just fine by always having an adult or two with a child to ensure safety in navigating the steps and water. The home is equipped with everything you could possibly need. We truly enjoyed our stay and plan to return next year. The highlight of our trip was a furry visitor at 2:00 AM on the last evening of our stay. The outside garbage bins are built and organized well to prevent these creatures from breaking in. He or she ran away when we turned the front porch light on!

We had a great and relaxing time. Never had an issue with anything! I would highly recommend this place.

The cabin and location are absolutely beautiful! The pictures don’t due it justice. We traveled with 5 adults and 5 children and had more than enough room to enjoy each other without being on top of one another. The floor plan is set up to accommodate multiple families who want to vacation together. Also Scott was a wonderful host. The cabin was exactly as promised and the communication with Scott couldn’t have been better. We absolutely plan on vacationing there again and making even more amazing memories together!

This place has everything you need and the host is very responsive. Beautiful view of the lake and great water access. The stairs down to the water are steep and there are a lot of them, so if you have limited mobility, this would be an issue, but it wasn't a problem for our group. I would definitely recommend this place and would stay here again!

This house is beautiful, and there is plenty of room for everyone to spread out and do their own thing. It is an open concept, but one night we had adults watching a movie on the main level and teens watching a movie on the lower level, and we were surprisingly not able to hear eachother's movies. It was colder and rainier than we were hoping for during the week we were there, but we still took some water toys out on the warmest day and had a blast. The house is closer to the road than I anticipated, but the area is so remote that there really wasn't any traffic and there are no other homes nearby, so it was still very secluded and private. Everything was very well stocked and clean, and the scenery was gorgeous. The only slightly annoying thing that we experienced was that the phone kept ringing at all hours, and when we would answer someone would just keep saying "hello?" We ended up unplugging the phones for the duration of our visit. The driveway could be a little tricky if you were hauling a trailer- it's either going to be a tight turn to get in or a tight turn to get out, and it was difficult to see when leaving the driveway, but there was almost never another car and it was really not a problem for us since we only brought one car and didn't pull a trailer. Overall it was a relaxing, wonderful stay in a beautiful place and I would absolutely go there again.

Our stay at this Waters Edge home was amazing! The home was even more beautiful than the pictures had shown, so very clean and the view from this waterfront property was absolutely breathtaking! We have all agreed this will be a new annual family tradition- the perfect location to bring us all together for a family vacation! We even rented a pontoon boat from a local marina and spent Sunday afternoon viewing the fall colors on the mountain from the lake- beautiful! Thank you, Scott, for sharing this little slice of paradise with our family!

This was wonderful. The home was beautiful, clean, well equipped and the views were breathtaking! We loved the canoes and kayaks, fishing, pool table, the water, the fire ring .... everything was fantastic. The most peaceful relaxing & fun vacation we've had in years!

Of all the homes we've rented this was by far the best. The location, the house, was everything we hoped it would be. The house is beautiful, better than the pictures show! The beds are comfortable, except for the downstairs pull out. The kitchen is well stocked and even has room to store your food. Our family of seven all agree we'd like to come back.
The Lake is fantastic...although you can get lost out there! We didn't see any bear but had deer come for a visit.
The two 75 year old's managed the stairs pretty well.

Picture perfect, serene and tranquil! All of the amenities you need. Time spent mostly swimming in the lake with perfect water temps. The cabin is very large and spacious with lots of stair climbing between the floors! You’ll get your exercise for sure! Just didn’t want to leave! Thank you Scott and Michele for sharing your beautiful cabin. We had the best family vacation.

Overall property was great. I’d say anyone with any sort of knee or hip issues would have problems negotiating the slope down to dock which is quite severe. Beautiful lake and beautiful location.

We just spent a great week at this lovely house. Quiet location on the lake. Everyone had a great time and plenty of space. Really the only gripe I heard from all staying with us was that the pool table is slightly unlevel otherwise, A+!

Our family loved Waters Edge. It is in a quiet cove good for swimming and boating. We enjoyed the canoe and kayaks. The cabin has everything you need and it’s easier to get to the dock than most Wautauga rentals. Note: if you are sleeping on the bottom floor 2 bedrooms you do hear all movements of the main floor above. The beds are comfortable and everything you need is provided for a fun stay. We hope to come back!

This place was awesome! The walkway and stairs coming back up from the docks were steep and not enjoyable but that was the only negative thing about the experience. If your looking for peace and quiet, it’s a great place to visit!

went for a weekend with friends from college and really enjoyed the house!

The beautiful photos that you can see of the cabin do not compare to that moment when you open the door and you see the first impression of what awaits you inside. Three beautiful levels with a fully equipped kitchen, you literally just need to take your clothes and a cooler if you plan to spend the whole day on the lake. Scott, who is an excellent host, has taken care of every single detail to made us feel like we were really at home. 100% it will be in our checklist for future vacations.

This home is well kept. Home is equipped for a nice weekend on the lake shore. Everything you would need to entertain your family from young to old. Be prepared for a lot of stairs to the lake. We are grateful that we selected this waters edge to enjoy our youngest graduation weekend.

We rented Waters Edge for Thanksgiving. It was quiet, lovely, and perfect for reconnecting as a family.

The home and location were perfect for our family. You get plenty of exercise visiting the dock and water, but it is worth it. We would stay there again and highly recommend.

The cabin was everything as described and more. Scott, the owner was a pleasure to deal with. I would highly recommend this rental.

Property had all amenities needed and the check in and check out process was seamless. Owner called the day before to ensure we had all of the info required. Would highly recommend.

A wonderful tranquil home. Perfect for the whole family and friends. The layout of the home was great, the kitchen amazing and well supplied with platters, dishes and glassware for our family and lots of great sunsets!!

This home is very spacious and offers alot of sleeping spaces. It is nicely appointed. The cove location is perfect for exploring by kayak and for just relaxing on a float. Although it is a steep incline to the home the way the steps are arranged makes it doable compared to other properties on the lake. Very enjoyable and would definately return again.

The house is great, one of the nicer ones around the lake. Plenty of space. Living rooms on each floor. Full kitchen on the main floor, mini kitchen on the bottom floor. We enjoyed the pool table. Lots of deck space. Great fire pit and patio. Nice dock with plenty of room for the pontoon we rented and space to fish or just hang out. Nice laundry room and three (2.5) bathrooms. The four bedrooms are spacious. The outdoor shower is a nice touch and worked great for dog bathing. The owners have very specific rules, and small signs posted throughout the house. They were easy to follow - mostly common sense. And that is one thing that keeps the place so nice, with so many great amenities for the next visitors. You’ll build up your leg muscles going up the deck stairs. Most houses on Watauga Lake have steep sloping yards and this one is no exception. But this is closer to the water than many. Great kayak and canoe collection. We thought we would use them but didn’t. Nice to have though. No complaints about the property. It is remote. Didn’t have cell service (Verizon) but the Wi-Fi worked great. There’s so much to do in the area - we hiked, rafted, shopped. Expect to drive 30 minutes or more to do any of that. Otherwise, we spent a lot of time on the lake. It’s a beautiful lake!

Awesome cabin
Love that it’s right on the lake- having a dock is a must! The canoes and kayaks were great. Can had everything we needed. The only issue is the upstairs bed was SUPER firm and uncomfortable. Whole family enjoyed our week here in June.

The property was clean and tranquil. The steps on the house were exhausting to climb. The rope railing on the wooden walkway to the dock was perfect for the kids but low for an adult. The last step on the wooden walkway was hard to see and some fluorescent tape at each step or something might be a good idea to avoid an injury.
We had a great time!!!

Trip was amazing. We couldn't have asked for a better place to stay for an awesome family-get-together with very close friends. The cabin is very nice, well-maintained, and equipped with all the essentials and more. Plenty of space to hang out both inside and outside with breathtaking views. We had endless activities from fishing on the dock, swimming, boat riding, kayaking, grilling, lounging on the decks, games, and playing pool. Highly recommended for a fun-filled experience.
