NEVER BEEN TO WATAUGA LAKE?
Watauga Lake is an extremely beautiful and clean recreational lake (3rd cleanest in the country) located in the Cherokee National forest with 105 miles of shoreline. More than half of the lake is mountainous national forest and cannot be developed, so its really naturally beautiful and not crazy overpopulated with boats. This hidden gem is known to be one of the most beautiful lakes on the east coast. Watauga lake is great for boating, jet-skiing, tubing, skiing/wakeboarding, fishing, swimming, kayaking etc.
Downstream of the dam is a very popular whitewater rafting area as most of the local companies in TN and NC bring their patrons here. Hiking is also very popular as the Appalachain trail and a couple of small waterfalls are nearby. This property is also close to attractions in Boone, Banner Elk and Blowing Rock, NC and also attractions in eastern TN.
We have great sunny summers with no mosquitoes and beautiful fall colors when the leaves change. In the winter time, skiing is a popular option at nearby Sugar and Beech Mountain. This is a spectacular mountain and lake getaway.

The property is beautiful but some very steep hills. I wish there was a bit more level land. It appeared to be like a beach with sand in pictures but really couldn't enjoy it like that because of being steep and slick like clay. My husband had recently had knee surgery so we were very cautious with him. We loved having access to kayaks and water mat. The house was very nice. Seating areas are nice as well. It would have been wonderful to have a view of the lake to the left off from the back side of the awesome covered deck. It was not used at all because there wasn't much of a view from there anymore. Possible cut some trees back for a bit of a view.
Overall we had a wonderful time and enjoyed making family memories. Thank you very much.

The house was great and the location on the lake was amazing. Owner communication was prompt with any questions. We plan on returning in the future.

This was a great place. Love being right on the water. We will definately be back.

The house is in really good shape and very clean. There were a lot of useful things in the house like wood, cleaning essentials, games, automatic vacuum cleaners and kitchen supplies. Everything was perfect.

Very private location. No immediate neighbors. Only the birds for noise (saw my 1st Green Heron). N & W water views of small cove and Elk River. Comfortable, well-furnished home. Spent many mornings on porch rocking chairs watching the morning mist burn off the hills and lake water. Good unpaved neighborhood roads for taking daily walks. Stayed 1 month (Sept) and enjoyed all of it.

Great Lake house. Only downside was spotty internet. If you need to work (zoom, emails, make calls) it is not ideal.

Beautiful location! Relaxing and fun!

Excellent house for a family gathering. Well stocked in both the kitchen and for lake activities.

The location of this property was exactly what we were looking for! Private, short distance to the water from the house, great views. The house was well equipped and the double refrigerator was key since there are not many restaurants close by. The lake is so beautiful, we rented a boat for the week and explored everyday and there were no crowds. We were totally comfortable while the kids were tubing and not concerned of other boaters. Just a fantastic time overall!

Loved the place. Just wish we had access to the upstairs bathroom in the middle of the night!

Will not hesitate to stay here again. Truly peaceful and amazing cabin. Host was always available to answer questions. Want to relax and decompress? LOOK NO FURTHER!

Great property with wonderful water views and access. Tons of fish around the dock and boat access area. We also enjoyed not having a lot of other houses around, so the cove was very peaceful. Would definitely visit here again. Take saltine crackers to feed the blue gill at the dock, they will eat for hours.

The property was perfect for all ages in our family (13-80). The porch, the yard and the dock are all relaxing spots for sitting and watching the lake. The cove is peaceful and safe to play/swim in the water with minimal boat traffic. After using the kayaks for a couple of days, we rented a boat for a day from Fish Springs Marina which was close by on land and water. The house was well appointed. As mentioned in the description, the Wi-Fi/internet is patchy but the adults did not mind! We will be back!

Best lake access lot of any home we’ve ever stayed in on Watauga Lake. The dock and kayaks, along with the provided vests, made exploring the lake incredibly easy. Home is a beautiful combination of rustic mountain cabin with modern upgrades. Lot has great privacy and views and the fire pit affords views of the lake on both sides of the peninsula. The whole family and our dogs had an awesome time. It was a great get away!

Very peaceful and quiet area on Watauga Lake. Very comfortable home with plenty of space for people and great that it is pet friendly. Watauga Lake is beautiful and highly recommend renting a pontoon for a day - quite affordable. Lots of outdoor space on deck and easy swimming & kayaking. Note that location of home is remote - 30 minutes to closest restaurant and closest grocery store in Elizabethton so plan accordingly.

Lake Getaway
We had a great time. Love the property. Lots of memories made. Swimming, fishing, the fire pit.

Spring Break Relaxation
Fun for the whole family… furry friends included! We had a great time utilizing the outdoor space with trying our hand at fishing, roasting s’mores and painting rocks/hiding them for future guests! Very clean and great open concept main floor for everyone to be in one place together. Loved the beds! So comfortable!

Best getaway EVER!
This property is absolutely magical! We stayed for an extended weekend leading in to, and through the New Year and it was so peaceful and relaxing. The home itself was clean and inviting.. We traveled with our 2 dogs and they enjoyed exploring the property. The fire pit was used for evening smores as the sun set behind the mountainside. The history of Watuga lake was not lost on us... (Google and you'll be just as engraved as we were). The local hiking in the area is absolutely breathtaking! We had a new place to hike almost every single day... Waterfalls galore! We look forward to coming back during the summer months and enjoying some of the amenities that the lake has to offer.. Don't hesitate this place is a hidden gem!

Tennessee Retreat
Our stay at the Lakefront Peninsula house was fantastic. Its private and secluded location provided for a fantastic retreat with friend and family to celebrate my birthday. A little off the beaten path but that definitely lent to the sense of adventure. Just a short drive to nearby towns for necessities and also close to the Cherokee National Forest and Appalachian Trail for hiking opportunities. We certainly got plenty of use out of the fire pit...we enjoyed sitting by the fire and roasting marshmallows nearly every evening. The views of the lake and nearby mountain ranges were very picturesque. We would definitely return.

A beautiful location and plenty of space
We had a great stay at Sugar Hollow! We spent Thanksgiving weekend there with our boys (ages 19 and 21) and we had tons of room, lots of towels, kitchen was well stocked with supplies and you can’t beat the view. The location on the lake was awesome. Host was very responsive as well.

Great House - Great View
Jenelle (Property Mgmt), was amazing throughout the entire process. She was on top of things from start to finish and we had no issues whatsoever.
Property is right on the lake and is as described on VRBO. Cabin is nicely furnished and has all the basics that you’ll need for the stay. We will definitely come back!

Very Relaxing
My family and I had a fantastic time at the cabin. The little things were very nice touches. We fished, explored and spent some much needed quality time together. There was plenty of space for the 5 of us. Already on list to possibly go back soon. Thank you for the hospitality!

We had family coming from Florida as well as tri city area. We didn't want to leave during the day to go anywhere, just relax on the porch and fish on the dock. After dinner movie night in the family room and relax with a glass of wine on the patio with fireplace. Awesome!

Family fun in a great home!
We had such a wonderful time at the Sugar Hollow home! Clean home throughout, comfy beds, great location, well-equipped kitchen, fishing , kayaking, campfire, what more could you want? Like other guests, we brought all our food and were glad we did. Restaurants are nowhere nearby. You could happily entertain yourself on the property, but if you want to venture out, we highly recommend Sycamore Shoals State Park and Off the Grid Mountain Adventure (ziplining and an awesome giant swing, go carts too!) Don't hesitate to rent this lovely home!

First off, check in and check out were flawless! Much appreciated. The home is wonderful. We went kayaking, did a bunch of fishing, and enjoyed the peace and quiet and great views while sitting around the outdoor fire pit.
The beds are extremely comfortable, the decor is terrific and everything worked as it should from plumbing to appliances to air conditioning. Water pressure in the shower was good and the water gets hot quick and stays that way for awhile. Internet worked 95% of the time and one of us actually had phone service at times. The fridge and freezer hold a ton of food too...I know, because we brought a TON!
Definitely would recommend this to anyone looking to get away from it all and enjoy some peace and quiet and tranquility in beautiful Tennessee!

Perfect getaway
The property and location was the perfect getaway our family needed. It was quiet, beautiful and had lots to offer for activities during our stay. We literally brought everything we needed and never left for the week. I was sad to leave. Jenelle was super easy and friendly to work with. Will recommend to others and will return in the future.

Peaceful and a blast
The VRBO listing did not do this house or setting justice. It is a wonderful retreat, and the owners thought of so many lovely details. Coming from Washington DC, we could not believe how QUIET this part of the lake is. We enjoyed kayaking every day in the peace and quiet, swimming, exploring the property, and hiking in the nearby Cherokee National Forest.

Clean, comfortable, peaceful. Quite a few upgrades since we last stayed there, a few years ago. And it was great then, so it was even better now. We love being on this little peninsula with water on both sides.
