We have been vacationing in the Harwich area for well over 30 years, so we know a great vacation spot! The house is situated next to the bike path and across from Brooks Park, which made it so we did not have to get in the car to play tennis and ride to First Crush Winery and Devil's Purse Brewery. The quaint older home provided enough room for our large family and the garage hang-out was the best! We played ping pong every day and the older kids enjoyed the badminton in the spacious yard. It was a very short drive to either Red River Beach or Harwichport. The owners were gracious and communication was excellent! Thank you for sharing your home with us for our vacation.

We had a great family vacation at the Thorndike house! There were 10 of us including 5 adults and 5 kids aged 4-11. The house was a rambling older home with a lot of personality and room for everyone to find space to “get away”. Kitchen was very well-equipped with everything you could possibly need. It happened to be the hottest and most humid week on the Cape of the summer so the upstairs bedrooms that didn’t have AC got quite warm but it was unusual weather for the Cape. Every day was a beach day and our favorites were Sheep Pond, Paine’s Creek and Mayflower beach. Everyone especially enjoyed the Double Deuce garage with the ping pong table and large sitting area for watching a movie at night. The house had plenty of beach and sports equipment for all ages! The owners were very responsive to our questions. All in all my family had a wonderful time at the Thorndike house! Great value!

I’ve been coming to Harwich almost every summer all my life, but never stayed in Harwich Center before. It was amazing! This house is directly across from Brooks Park and on the bike path. It’s a five-minute drive to the beach. We really enjoyed the park (especially the playground, craft fair, & concert at the gazebo!) with our young kids.
The house itself is a huge old home from the 1800s with tons of charm and cool little details everywhere. Plenty of bedrooms for everyone (most with a/c) and the main living area is open, so it worked great for our group (two families with young kids). Note that the upstairs twin bedroom is accessed through one of the queen bedrooms - perfect for us with our kids but something to note for other groups (although there is actually a small 2nd back staircase leading down from that twin bedroom).
The “Double deuce” garage is awesome - it’s basically an extra living/rec room, perfect for when grown ups want to keep hanging out after the kids go to bed and don’t want to worry about waking them up! We really appreciated the garage’s extra fridge and beach supplies. The outdoor shower was lovely. Despite the central location, the large yard was quite private due to the hedges.
The only thing that could be improved would be adding a/c to all bedrooms (although maybe not possible in such an old house?).
Overall, I can’t say enough about this place. We hope to return in a future year!

Older well-loved home that's perfect for families. Great in-town location, with outdoor space and plenty for kids to do/explore -- as my son said, it's clear that the owners enjoy welcoming guests into their home!

My family so enjoyed this house and its quirky back staircase and crow's nest. We played badminton in the yard every day, as well as ping-pong. Then we had a pickleball tournament across the street at the park. It's comfortable and restful. Also, we loved the easy access to the bike path.

You could not raise many windows due to poor condition. Screens were missing. Air conditioning was insufficient. Front door had no screen. There was nowhere to store food due to too many dishes. House was musty and buggy. Ping pong table did provide amusement, as did the large screen TV.

We loved our week here. My family of five adults had plenty of space to spread out and relax. This is a cool old house with a different room to fit every mood. We loved the location right on the rail trail and across the street from the high school and Brooks Park. We had everything we needed. The Double Deuce adds a party-in-the-garage feel that you're not likely to find anywhere else!

I highly recommend the location for a large family gathering. We had up to 14 people stay and it worked out great. There were a ton of amenities and plenty of beds for everyone. Everything was clean and in place when we arrived. Probably the only downside was the in-unit A/C given the high heat we've had this summer - it took a few days to get the temp in the house right for everybody.

This was our 9th year staying here. Everything was clean and neat, and some places were freshly painted. We are always impressed by how well the house is maintained. The location by the park, the bike trail, stores , restaurants, and beaches is ideal. The garage, turned rec room, has a ping pong table, flat screen TV, couches, and chairs. It also holds sporting equipment for use in the spacious yard, or taking to the beach! My family says that our week here is the highlight of the year!

My sister and I have come to Harwichport for our family reunion since 1993. This year was exceptional because my parents had their great grandchildren and many out of state and country, grandchildren coming. We knew that there was going to be a lack of room at the beach house so we started to look for another house and luckily, Carolyn found the 34 Oak St. house. 6 Bedroom's 2 bathrooms and a great out door shower. We chose this home because of the guest capacity and it's location to activities but the Double Deuce was the icing on the cake and the center of attraction for the kids every night. This home has everything that you need for Cape vacation. Just bring linens and towels.Alan and Ellen made the arrangements simple and everything they say on HomeAway is as described and even better. Clean, nice beds, plenty of utensils, nice cookware, washer / dryer and a great location. Thank you so much to the Thorndike's for letting us stay at your awesome home!

We have rented 34 0ak Street for the second half of June every year for the last 10 years. It has lots of bedrooms so we invite family and friends every year and never run out of space. Our grandchildren for a long time thought this was where we lived, because they got so used to seeing us here. We like the Cape Cod vibe, hiking, eating out, exploring the Cape and having our annual family vaction here. Love the big yard and the family badmitten games.
