And now back to our property description.
First of all, we are COMMITTED to CLEAN! Before we even describe the home, we know that our guests want to know how CLEAN the premises are. Even before COVID-19 hit our country, our guests praised our home for its cleanliness at check-in (feel free to check out our guest reviews). Here is the protocol we follow, including some enhancements we have made since the pandemic:
• We use cleaners and disinfectants approved by health agencies
• All surfaces are cleaned, mopped, or dusted before sanitizing
• All high-touch surfaces have been cleaned with germicidal wipes
• The remotes are enclosed in sleeves for easy disinfecting
• Each room is cleaned following our detailed checklist
• Cleaning supplies are left out for your use during your stay
• All bedding is washed using bleach. Duvet covers are washed between guests.
• All counter tops and tables are cleaned with germicidal products, and table runners washed
• All furniture is wiped down with germicidal products
• Floors are washed with a bleach solution
• All bathroom surfaces are cleaned with a germicidal solution
• All throws on the couches are washed between guests
• Southwest pillows that are not washable are sprayed with germicidal spray, and sterilized in the sun for several hours (if no sun, then they are put into storage not to be used for several days)
In concert with our cleanliness policy, smoking is strictly prohibited in the house or in close proximity to the house such that smoke could enter the house. If you do wish to smoke, please do so outdoors away from the premises. Please dispose of smoking materials safely in the outdoor garbage bin.
We allow pets with an additional pet fee. Cats are not permitted (guest allergic reactions), and certain dog breeds are not permitted for safety and insurance reasons (e.g. Rottweilers, Pit Bulls, Dobermans, etc.). If you have questions about our pet policy, please contact us.

We're just a short walk to Starbucks, Whole Foods, and a great hamburger spot with a delicious happy hour. There are several great restaurants close by representing many wonderful ethnic cuisines. It's a short drive to shopping, theater complexes, SO MANY restaurants, Albuquerque Old Town, the zoo, the botanical gardens, museums, our fantastic Triple-A ballpark, the Bosque, and other fun places in the city. If you're here for Balloon Fiesta, you're 5 minutes from a park-and-ride and about 10 minutes from Balloon Fiesta Park. If you want to take the scenic train ride into Santa Fe, you're 10 minutes from the Rail Runner. And if you're here for little skiing, use our home as your launching pad to the Sandia Peak Ski Area, Santa Fe Ski Basin, Pajarito Mountain, or the famous Taos Ski Valley.
We're close to major streets and freeways that open up a whole new world of New Mexico adventures, whether you want to drive the Turquoise Trail, visit Santa Fe, explore the nation's oldest continuously inhabited settlement at Acoma Pueblo, walk among the Tent Rocks, try your luck at several casinos or take in their shows, do a little stream fishing, or explore our beautiful Land of Enchantment on your own.

Merv and Brenda were great! They made sure we had what we needed. They were prompt returning messages when we had a question (before and during the trip). The house was spotless when we arrived and had everything we needed. The roof top deck was fabulous! We will stay here again if we are in the area.

We had such a wonderful time here. The home is completely stocked with everything you could need, right down to spices in the cupboard — there’s even a grill in the backyard! It was perfect.

Beautiful home in abq! We were in town for a volleyball tournament weekend and this home was perfect for our team and 2 dogs! Beautiful house in a great location! Can’t wait to return !

I needed a comfortable and well-laid-out home in which to recuperate from hip surgery, and this was the perfect spot! Spotlessly clean, comfortable, quiet, and so well stocked. They even provided a toilet riser and shower chair for me, and checked in to see how my surgery went. The neighborhood is lovely and quiet, there are nice outdoor spaces to enjoy, and we couldn’t have asked for anything more. Thank you, Merv and Brenda!

All we can say is that it was wonderful to return to this property to relax and rejuvenate after long days away. The home is also so convenient to grocery shopping, jogging, and central to getting around Albuquerque.
Brenda and Merv were wonderful hosts and have a well cared for and exceptionally well stocked home. There was not much we needed more than what was provided. It was also exceptionally clean, a huge relief.
The mattress in the master bedroom was exceptionally comfortable, as were the pillows and linens. Also good quality towels were provided.
All in all we would absolutely return here at any point in the future, no question. A plus, they had some Christmas decorations and a tree that just made the home more like home for the holidays...thank you!

The home was as beautiful as advertised. It was clean, comfortable and the kitchen was well stocked - probably more than any other location we've rented. We thoroughly enjoyed the basket of goodies throughout our stay. WOW - what a treat to have those items. We were in Albuquerque for the Balloon Fiesta and this home was in the perfect location! It was truly centrally located to access the park & ride buses, or to go sightseeing around the area. A highlight for us was the rooftop deck that allowed us to view the fireworks from the Fiesta Field, to watch balloon launches on mornings we weren't in the park and the icing on the cake was being able to watch the Annular Eclipse that happened to coincide with the Fiesta!! Absolutely stunning to watch from the rooftop. We were also able to use the bag chairs at the home to sit while enjoying the Music Fiesta on the field. A plus for sure as we were going to have to buy chairs.
It was an absolute pleasure working with Merv and Brenda and we would highly recommend their beautiful home. If we are ever back in the area, we would most certainly rent this home again.

What a perfect home away from home for us to stay in while moving our daughter to Albuquerque! The home is conveniently located and so well stocked with everything you’d need to cook up a good meal and relax a while. We’ll definitely come back to stay here when visiting!

We have stayed in many rental homes, and this was the best! Merv and Brenda were awesome hosts, meeting us at the property and showing us how everything worked. The house was beautiful, well appointed, and was more than we could have asked for…it felt like being at home. The location was perfect, close to stores and centrally located.

We have stayed at this property multiple times now and the property owners are by far the best I have ever dealt with. They’re very accommodating and friendly. Simply put, they are the best! The house is always immaculate and they have seemingly thought of everything for their guests. I cannot recommend this property and owners more. Thank you so much for being a beacon of hope and light.

We have been staying at this property for the last 6 years when we come to Albuquerque and it is always super nice and extremely clean. It is a great neighborhood that is very quiet and conveniently located. The home is spacious and has a fenced yard for our fur baby. Merv and Brenda are wonderful hosts and always available. We love this house and our family loves visiting us there. Plenty of amenities and everything you need here. We plan to continue staying at Rio Hondo once a year when we come to town. Wonderful place to stay with terrific hosts!

I fell in love with the pictures of the house when I saw them online. The pictures didn’t lie. The house was perfect for us. There were 5 of us all together ranging in age from 15-82. There was plenty of room. Everything we needed was there. Kitchen supplies and bathroom supplies, you name it and it was there. Merv and Brenda met us when we arrived and they gave us a walk through to show us where things were. Merv even texted the following morning to see if things were ok and if we had any questions. One morning the fridge didn’t seem right. I texted Merv and he responded right away. He gave us a suggestion and sure enough, the problem was solved. The neighborhood is so quiet and peaceful with stores and restaurants close by. Our vacation and accommodations were FANTASTIC!!!

We spent 6 days and had a great time at the home. Communication with the hosts was excellent. Located in a nice neighborhood, close to grocery and drug stores, it felt very safe. The garage came in handy for parking our rental car.
The home has tons of amenities that you don't get with most short-term rentals. Most everything you could need during your stay is provided. I was especially impressed by the kitchen, since we cooked several meals in. Lots of pots and pans, dishes, utensils, even spices. We also used the nice BBQ grill while there. Also included are laundry supplies and extra toiletries. You can tell that the owners have put a lot of thought and effort into providing most everything their guests might need. Appreciated the late check out (not guaranteed, but they didn't have anyone checking in the same day). Highly recommended!

We had the privilege of staying at Rio Hondo for 4 weeks. Everything, and we mean everything, was better than expected. Merv and Brenda have thought of all the conveniences and creature comforts that make one forget they are not at home. They even had a dog bed for our beloved dog. We have often spent the first day of vacation when staying at other VRBOs shopping for toilet paper, laundry detergent, basic spices, shampoo etc. Rio Hondo has it all and more. The house was immaculate , the roses in the garden were a wonderful treat and the welcome basket was a very nice gesture. Merv and Brenda could teach a Master Class on how to run a VRBO.
We have already booked for the same 4 weeks next year! Thanks Merv and Brenda!

The communication with the hosts is amazing. You get a survey a few days before arriving so they'll know what to put in your gift basket. They met us at the door and showed us how everything worked. They texted the next morning to see if we had any questions. They live nearby so if you have any questions or issues, it'll be easy to address.
The interior is as shown in the pics. Lots of space. The sunroom doesn't really warm up (this was late Mar) till the afternoon but it's a lovely space to have a glass of wine or read.
Every time I thought, oh, I forgot to bring___, I'd look in the cupboard and they'd have it. They've thought of little things like a cluster of charging cables by the bedside.
The house is a block off a major road but except Friday night with some loud motorcycles, we couldn't hear the traffic. It's certainly a convenient location for N ABQ.
There's some exterior work that I know they're working on. They had to take out two trees when a branch smashed the spiral staircase to the roof. The patio areas are expansive and beg for more plants (but I can understand in this situation, they may not want to fuss with landscaping. Maybe they had to remove them while they re-stuccoed the walls.) They're replacing the fans in the mini-splits that were a bit noisy, something they wanted to do a year ago but Covid backlogs have slowed that process. None of this really matters; you're renting, not buying the place. But it does affect the ambiance outside somewhat.

The house was wonderful. It was so well stocked with all essentials plus so many extras. My granddaughter loved all the toys they had for her to play with. The house location was perfect for getting anywhere in the city. We had a wonderful stay and would recommend this house to anyone.

My husband and I enjoyed a long weekend stay at this immaculate, perfectly stocked and thoughtfully appointed property in a very nice, extremely quiet neighborhood in NW Albuquerque. The property owners met us at the property to show us a few details (lights, locks, etc.) at check-in amd made.themselves availble if we needed anything, had questions, etc. Very nice, accommodating folks! We loved staying at Rio Hondo with our dogs and hope to be back soon!

We came to Albuquerque to spend time with family. Merv & Brenda’s place was the perfect spot and they went above and beyond to make us feel right at home. The house is fully appointed with everything from extra pillows, cozy beds, and an extra toothbrush and razor if you forget. Before we arrived, we received a survey to complete so our hosts could provide us with snacks and beverages to have on hand! During our stay, Merv checked in but was not intrusive at all. We highly recommend Merv and Brenda’s place for your next trip to Albuquerque.

Our stay started with lots of helpful info via email, an easy check in and a generous personalized gift basket that we thoroughly enjoyed. Our hosts were incredibly responsive, thoughtful and knowledgeable about the area and gave us great tips to enhance our stay. It’s clear they approach their role as hosts with a lot of care. The home itself was spacious, sparkling clean, beautifully decorated, and well located. We couldn’t decide which part of the house we enjoyed more, tho I particularly appreciated having a cup of tea in the sunroom. We were sad to leave and definitely want to come back! In fact, if our hosts owned VRBO’s in other cities we would definitely want to check those out :)

Merv and Brenda thought of everything you could want in a vacation property. Everything was cared for from the welcome snacks to camp chairs to take to the Balloon Fiesta to bathroom cups! We’ve never stayed in a more completely furnished property and we’ve stayed in plenty. We’ll be sure to stay here on our next trip to Albuquerque. Thanks Merv and Brenda!

This was our second stay in Brenda and Merv's home. It is just as pictured but what you do not see in pictures is all of the attention to detail. They have stocked the house with everything that a guest might need. They are thoughtful hosts and sincerely interested in your guest experience.

Marvelous experience from start to finish. We have stayed in multiple VRBO’s. While we are fortunate to have had good experiences at every property, this stay was the BEST! The home is clean, comfortable, exceptionally well stocked and the Host & Hostess are a pleasure to work with. We highly recommend this VRBO, plz just don’t rent it when we want to return ;) Deb & Jim

Thoughtful and Welcoming Vacation Home
We had a delightful stay at Bear Canyon! The owners, Merv and Brenda, have clearly thought carefully about how to care for and spoil their guests. The house was spotlessly clean, there are multiple living areas - two inside, an enclosed porch, and several outside, including the amazing rooftop patio that was pleasant and breezy in the evenings, even in the midst of summer. And the view of the mountains from the roof was lovely. The kitchen had everything we could need to prepare meals and there were multiple coffee options, the beds and pillows were soft and comfortable, there were informative magazines about Albuquerque and things to do in town, and toys and books for kids as well. And - icing on the cake - they provided a wonderful basket of treats, including fresh fruit and beverages for us, with a personal note of thanks. SO thoughtful! They send out a form prior to your arrival to ask about your snack preferences. Definitely fill that out because they cater it to your requests! The home itself is in a quiet neighborhood with easy access to shopping and restaurants. We highly recommend Bear Creek to any travelers to ABQ. We can't wait to stay there again!

The perfect rental!
Loved everything about this home! Easy check in, super clean, comfy beds, plenty of linens, well stocked kitchen, washer & dryer w/ provided soap- the owners have literally thought of everything to make this rental the perfect home away from home. The welcome snacks, cold water in the fridge and coffee was much appreciated after our long day traveling. AC worked great and kept us cool & comfortable. We didn’t use the outdoor area but it was well equipped w a nice bbq, table, fire pit & rooftop lookout. Highly recommend this home- we wouldn’t hesitate to rent again.
