We had a fabulous few days at poets retreat we had everything we needed at the cottage.
We had a fabulous few days at poets retreat we had everything we needed at the cottage. The only slight issue was the parking however we must have been lucky as by the time we had drove round the block each time there was a space outside. But of course that is definitely not a negative on the cottage as it was perfect. We would stay here again it was great. Thank you x

An excellent terraced cottage a few minutes walk from the town centre. Usually room to park (free) outside, only once did we have to walk from slightly further away. Amenities all very good and no problems apart from not being able to get in on first day. The owner drove about 30 miles to help and, of course, the key box immediately opened for him! He kept his sense of humour though!

We spent a week here and loved it. The house is bigger than it looks. It is immaculately clean. Comfy bed, excellent kitchen, great shower. Easy check in. Great location and never had a problem parking. There is a book with instructions for every device and for local amenities
We visited the Lakes, the Cumbrian coast (St Bees is a must), Carlisle and Scotland

Poets Retreat had everything we needed for a comfortable stay.
Poets Retreat had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The front room is a cosy space downstairs. I did miss having a washing machine but otherwise it’s very well equipped. The lockable bike store with power supply was ideal for our e-bikes. Information and instructions are clear. Cockermouth is a gem of a town and everyone was so friendly. I consider Poets Retreat very good value.

Poet's Retreat is a lovely Edwardian terraced home which has been redecorated to a high standard in a modern style inside, with the original fireplaces removed. The rooms are spacious though the staircase is on the steep side, common for properties of this age. If you have very young children you'd want a stair gate at the top of the stairs.
The main bathroom is on the ground floor and reached through the kitchen which is a little unusual; children in the front bedroom requiring the toilet at night need either to walk through the other bedroom, or down the stairs and through the kitchen.
We found the property was immaculately cleaned. The kitchen is well equipped, and the owner responds quickly to queries raised (we pointed out a couple of snagging defects which are being rectified). The property doesn't have a washing machine or a dryer . There is a line for drying clothes and a laundry shop (not self service) on the same road. The fish and chip shop further down the road serves good scampi.
We liked the location as it allowed us to drive easily to Crummock Water avoiding driving through the centre of Cockermouth, but it may not be for everyone (look at the map). It's on quite a busy road and because it is at the edge of the controlled parking there is competition for the free parking spaces in front of the house. The furthest we had to park was less than five minutes walk. The walk to the centre of Cockermouth is down a hill, which has some good coffee shops and restaurants. We liked Wordsworth House. Harris Park with children's playground and also two supermarkets can be reached along a level cycle path that follows a disused railway line (start by walking along the main road away from Cockermouth).

This is a lovely clean and comfortable cottage at a good price. I would recommend Cockermouth as a place to stay. Overall we found the cottage lovely and cosy.
Overall we found the cottage lovely and cosy. It was very clean and tidy with good equipment. The cottage could benefit from a couple of inexpensive tweaks to help families staying there namely a couple of stair gates and maybe travel cot. On street parking only was a bit of a pain as you could never guarantee a space outside at any time - everywhere else seemed to be permit only. It was a surprisingly busy thoroughfare too!
The location was ideal for exploring the north western lake district area as well as main towns such as Keswick, Carlisle and beyond. We would highly recommend this place to others for it's all round loveliness despite the few negatives. Thank you for a lovely stay.

Lovely stay over easter weekend.
Lovely stay over easter weekend. Perfect size for 4 adults and in an ideal place for exploring the lakes and Cockermouth. Lots information when we got there available on what to do in the surrounding area. Thank you for a lovely weekend and will hopefully be back!!

A cottage newly refurbished to very high standards.
A cottage newly refurbished to very high standards. Everything one might need, right down to wind up electric torches, and a beautiful cake. The central heating had a mind of its own, at times defaulting to 15 degrees, which could have been a problem in winter, but not in the spring. Parking was a lot easier than I expected, on the roadside adjacent to the cottage. Very handy for Cockermouth centre, just five minutes walk away. Ditto Sainsbury's. Lots of pleasant walks around the town.Take the bus to Keswick rather than the car - luxurious buses every half hour and no parking problem. Strongly recommend the Lakeland Distillery for the bistro.
