The house was nice but at the same time it needs a lot of upgrades. Like the chairs and charcoal grill needs to be replaced then the back spare room bed and the living room couch were both hard as rocks and need to be replaced. Then the Wi-Fi needs to be upgraded because it barely worked and when you did get it to work it was lagging and then it shuts down all the time.
Also around my 3rd day there a guy showed up and he said he lives in the basement apartment he said he wasn’t the owner or grounds keeper. The house online said entire house for rent there was nothing said about the guy living in the basement. So I had no idea someone would be there and its something that the owner should have told me and I brought my kids with me. Then on the last day or two I caught the man taking photos of me and the kids and he sat out and watched us all day and playing loud music. I’m very disappointed and upset over this.

The host was responsive which made checking in and asking questions no problems. The house is cozy and clean. The kitchen is well stocked if you plan to cook.
The house is on the end of the street and it was very quiet. The downtown area is not far as well as a publix if you need groceries.
The outdoor furniture and canoe was not super clean, so we didn’t want to sit outside. When we did use the canoe, we had to clean it first. The dock really could use a better ladder. Currently there is a wooden ladder that is very slippery from algae. The metal lounge chairs on the dock had no cushions, so you couldn’t really use them. The fire pit was filled with debris, leaves and branches. We didn’t want to clean it out, so we didn’t use that either.
Overall, we found that the house was fine, the beds were comfortable, but for outdoor enjoyment we explored other areas of the lake.

We feel that it should’ve been disclosed that the property manager lives on site under the house. The dock also needs a really good cleaning peppermint oil and water will work wonders on all the spiderwebs and spiders. The lake was beautiful, has friendly neighbors, and the king size bed was comfy

Housekeeping didn’t service the house – a frustrating mistake, but understandable -- it was the host's response after that locked in this negative review. Twisting facts + rude accusations. Keep in mind the check-in instructions had the wrong entry code and it took 30 mins to reach the host due to poor phone coverage. Then the house was in disrepair: gross toilet, broken dishwasher, food in fridge, trash, unmade beds (including used q-tips?!), musty smell throughout, and a sign for guests to empty the humidifier. The host said housekeeping could be there by morning and apologized - messaged us via VRBO to offer a refund for that night. We told the host we were leaving - we had a car full of fresh groceries plus 2 kids and 2 dogs; this totally disrupted our 2-night getaway and wasn’t going to be fixed by a 2-hour housecleaning (IF they came as promised - and you can't clean disrepair). We thanked them for responding and said we understood about the mistake (we’re also hosts). Apparently we were too kind when we said we’d try to stay with friends nearby. The host went from apologizing and offering us a refund to accusing us of breaking our contract because we found a free place to stay. Never mind the time wasted, inconvenience & frustration, $$ of groceries in our car on a summer night and the stress of scrambling to find a place to stay at 9pm (or the 2 hr drive back to Atlanta)!! When we followed up about the refund, the host was rude and made false accusations. The ‘For Sale’ sign at the driveway and outdated check-in instructions should’ve been our first clues – this host doesn’t care and is just trying to profit on a hot rental market. This is our first negative review about a host on any platform. We have photos of the house and our message threads via VRBO (we spoke with a nice representative but they weren't helpful in trying to resolve this, so we followed up with our credit card. We called VRBO back to see if it could be resolved amicably; VRBO asked if we'd speak with the host again (yes); then the host just ranted, said she was at work and couldn't speak, then she sent us a rude message recanting her original refund offer and accusing us again. It was a hassle sandwich with an extra side of rudeness. Renters beware.

Neat little lake property
Really cool, level lake lot. Great for fishing trips or just chilling outside. Was grateful to be able to bring our pups. The home served its purpose but we spent most of our time outside because it’s really beautiful there. Lots of deer, privacy, and quiet. Enjoyed coffee every morning by the dock.

I would rent it again
We just finished staying for a week at this property. It was an older property but very functional. The kitchen was fully furnished and the master bedroom was nice with comfortable bed. The only complaint was that it was misrepresented about having TV's. It had TV's but no cable. The TV in the living room was modern with streaming services but you couldn't watch network TV without using a streaming TV service like YouTube TV or Sling.

Lake house
We arrived at the house we reserved the air conditioner was broke . We called the office and the took immediate action with the maintenance staff, we were moved to another home that was much nicer for our needs. The Hoffie house . We enjoyed our stay on the lake and would return if we are in that area again. Great dock and swimming.

Nice outdoor area - Main family room area - Needs TLC and Updates
This property has a list of Pros and Cons to be considered.
Pros - Lakeside area very nice with a large table for dining and nice chairs with cushions. Fire pit area. Friendly neighbor. Upstairs master is the best room in the house. Comfortable beds upstairs. Nice TVs in each room with cable. Grill was filled with gas and well appointed with tools.
Cons - Main living and dining area is very small. Seating for maybe three or four people. Not enough room for a family to have dinner. This can’t be overcome. One half of the dock is rotted and must be made a priority to finish repairing. Long strip of muddy drainage area should be filled. Many bugs of various types but also may be the wooded lake location. Porch needs pressure washing and cleaning after each guest. Bathrooms need new shower curtains or glass doors installed. Mildew present and very dark while showering. Carpet needs to be replaced. I would not recommend swimming off the dock due to debris (cove location). Very narrow path to try and dock a boat.
Overall enjoyed the stay after first impressions were overcome and thankful for nice weather to stay outside most of the time.

Quiet Location
The neighborhood was great. Very friendly neighbors. House could of used some exterior cleaning. This home served the purpose of a quiet weekend we were looking for relaxing and fishing. The dock is in need of repairs. Home needs a little TLC, but no major complaints.

Lovely, cozy get-away
This is a lovely, cozy home tucked away on a beautiful cove-front lot in a nice area. The house was very clean, beds were comfortable, bathrooms well-appointed, new appliances, rebuilt dock, outdoor seating area with fire pit, kayaks... everything you need for a lake getaway. Owners were good communicators and check-in/check-out was easy.

Quick Get Away
Cute space and place. Just as advertised. We had a stroke of pouring rain for 48 hours so were limited on enjoying the lake front but enjoyed a few walks up through the neighborhood in between showers. We were looking for a departure from the crazy busy city and it is just what we got! Netflix, jigsaw puzzle, and quiet rest!

Perfect little spot for relaxation!
I rented this for my parents and brother during my wedding weekend on Lake Oconee. It was the perfect spot for them to rest and relax just a short drive away from the festivities. The owners were easy to get in touch with and very responsive to our questions. The house was very clean and the perfect size for them. Would definitely recommend!

It’s a lot like a fancy cabin - charming
The experience with the owners was great and you can tell they are trying to put a number of nice touches with the cabin by offering laundry detergent, dish soap, spices, rolled towels etc but it’s a little more run down than I was expecting for lake oconee. The inside needs new paint and new tubs as they are so worn that they don’t look clean. They are clean but they don’t look clean. It is a well equipped kitchen however several pieces must not be used often or were never cleaned thoroughly as some were greasy. All the pots and pans and dishes should be washed and inspected. There are too many decorations in my opinion that leaves little space for cooking. Once we removed many of those to the spare room, we had plenty of space. It’s a good size for 4 people but 6 adults would have been too tight. There would not have been enough seating. The outside desperately needs paint and the patio pressures washed, it was too grimy to sit on the porch but the lot is very pretty and you feel like you’re on an exclusive camp site. The dock was being replaced while we were there so the new part was lovely to sit on. The old part will hopefully be replaced soon. The chairs outside by the dock felt new and were quite lovely to sit and watch the sunset. We did take advantage of the fire pit and that was fun.

Great get away.
This was a nice get away. The house is nestled at the end of its cove. Which for us was great! The kids could splash and pretend to fish without the worry of incoming vessels. We were able easily tie up our jet ski after launching it at the nearby launch. The on property kayaks were fun to try as well. We loved the fact that there were enough trees to give the option of shade someplace all day. We took my parents along and the gentle slope down to the dock was fine for my mom to handle. We enjoyed the dockside table and the girls made sure they enjoyed s’mores in the fire pit most nights. The year round neighbors are kind and will enjoy talking about their latest catch and give suggestions on places to check out.
The house itself could use some TLC. Some water damage noted in the ceilings, smoke alarms missing and hot water was at times fickle. Non of these warranted a call or text to the owners but I’m sure they would have had solutions for a couple of the stated items had I asked. The main floor is charming and the kitchen is well stocked with bowls, pans, plates ect. This was nice since we made most of the meals due to Covid.
One suggestion I would have would be to have a place in each room to to able
to unpack. One room has a nice dresser but the other two rooms did not. The closets hold owners personal items and made it necessary to live out of our suitcases for the week. Honestly if that was my biggest issue of the week I call it a successful vacation!

Nice Quiet Getaway
The house needs some TLC but we had a great time. Enjoyed the water, fire pit and we barbecued. We had a small issue with the kitchen faucet but DJ called me right away and we got it fixed immediately. Stairs to second floor are steep so I chose to use the downstairs bedroom. I recommended a way to get in and out of the lake easier and DJ said she's working on that now. I also had trouble with the TV as I'm not familiar with Hulu and couldn't get any live TV. I didn't get a good first impression so I gave it 4 stars.

Corona getaway
Loved kayaking in the lake. Weather was perfect. Large bedrooms for two adult children and us. Common space not huge but do-able. Nice to have TV in each room for down time.

Wonderfull stay on the lake
We had a nice time at the property, DJ was very responsive to questions. The pictures are representative of the house and lake. We spent most of our time sitting down by the lake, swimming, kayaking and using the fire pit.

Disappointing Experience
A couple of things to note about the property, which we share primarily for the benefit of those with children like ourselves:
1) House does have two bathrooms but one of the bathrooms has the water heater, washer and dryer inside of it, and 2nd is not located in the master bedroom, its down the hall and shared with another bedroom
2) The house is at the very backside of a cove so there is a lot of debris, dead fish, snakes near the dock and in the water. Neighbor warned my kids about swimming given all the snakes near the property (he killed a copperhead on his path while we were there). So we didn't find it conducive to kids swimming off the dock. The dock is very old and needs to be replaced. It has loose boards and nails sticking out. We were able to take the kayaks out to further up the cove and just swim off of our kayaks in the body of the lake cove
3) House is in need of some love and care - for example, kitchen sink faucet didn't work after a few days, so we had to get water for drinking and cooking from the bathroom. We also found a scorpion in the kitchen!
4) There is a drainage path that goes through the backyard which creates a big area of mud, algae, and still water that we had to keep the kids/dogs away from
5) Lastly, we had a lot of issues when we first got there - trash, broken outdoor furniture, broken fire pit, and dead armadillo in the yard that greeted us upon our arrival. We called owner and she had cleaning crew come out and remedied most of this quickly
We asked for a partial refund, which the owner did not want to provide, but agreed to while we were there. The Owner later refused to issue the refund and kept our security deposit, saying our dogs made a mess of the house. That was not the case--we were very careful to keep the dogs outside or crated when inside.
We found ways to make the best of our stay, but you could definitely find much better options.

Hurricane evacuation
We had to evacuate our county due to a mandatory evacuation from hurricane Dorian. We were very anxious to find a place for my family and are grateful for DJ allowing us to stay at her home. She was very responsive to our needs.

Relaxing stay by the lake
We had a wonderful time at Lake Oconee, the house was vet clean with a very well equipped kitchen. We made use of the kayaks and had many fun hours on the lake. Our dog also spent many hours swimming in the lake, she had a wonderful time.
My only two minor issues with the property were. There was no where to sit and eat outside. Am outdone table would have been great. The other minor issue was having to take trash to the collection point. We had to do a couple of trash runs during our trip which was not ideal, but I realize it is part of being in a fairly secluded area., Overall we had a great time and would be happy to return.

Glorified reviews for a subpar rental.
Let me preface my review- This was our first Father's Day without my husband and I was looking for a nice rental to get away for the weekend with my two children. We live about an hour away from Lake Oconee and wanted somewhere easily accessible for my son to come to after he left work on Friday afternoon. Sunset Cove is called sunset cove for a reason. The sunsets were beautiful- but that is about all.
When my daughter and I first arrived at the rental, we were rather shocked. The driveway and the walkway to the door were both covered in debris from the rain we had had earlier that week. It was everywhere. Wasn't someone supposed to clean before we came? Moving forward, we get the key and walk inside and are hit with a horrible musty smell that makes it very clear that no one has been inside this house in a while. We take a look around before unpacking the car. There were bugs along the shoe molding in the living room along with scatter rugs EVERYWHERE. And not carpet material- shag material. Scatter rugs are a hazard first of all and second.. dirty!
Since the house was far out (we knew this from reviews) we brought all of our food with us. We planned to grill, and did, but the grill had not been cleaned. There were particles of food left on it. We cleaned it with the metal brush that was laying on the ground (darn. we didnt think to bring one of those..the raving reviews had us thinking this wouldn't be a problem) only to figure out the metal bristles fell out of the brush and went all over the grill. We made do, cleaned it off and continued with our plans.
My family is big into Braves baseball- we watch the games every night. As we were preparing dinner Friday night, we went to turn the game on. Much to our surprise, no cable? What? This was advertised as an amenity? I sent a text to DJ and received a text back roughly 3 hours later stating, "No cable...sorry." Bummer. One more thing to add to the list, right?
There are many other things that I could write up about this rental including the leak under the sink, the broken sliding glass door to the back yard, etc but word count won't let me do so.
Bottom line- save your money or find another place. Previous reviews must have come from close family and friends because they were 200% a fluke.
P.S.- If that was too many negatives, one positive would be comfortable beds :)
P.S.S- We were "slightly" miserable so we left a day early.

Nice quiet cove, great for kayaking.
Not a knock against the property, but I would advise you to bring your groceries for your entire stay with you. There's a Citgo station just a few miles away, but they don't have much to choose from for groceries (besides hotdogs). It does have fishing bait (livers, worms, crickets, minnows). The closest grocery store is about 45 mins away. Nice public park 2 miles from the house to launch a boat, and to fish at.

Good time at Sunset Cove
We had a great time. It is far away from many things but that is what we wanted. Very clean. Beds comfortable. Owner responded fast to any questions. Great place.

The house was perfect, the backyard even better!
The house was exactly as described. We didn't want to leave. The backyard feels very private. Perfect location for a family vacation, relaxing, the kayaks were great, and hours were spent swimming and fishing (caught several large catfish) right off the dock. The master bedroom is an oasis, had to force ourselves downstairs in the morning. Thank you for sharing your home. We will be back for sure.
