The house is situated on the border of the village. You have to leave your car on the main road and walk to the house following a narrower path that has a (illegal?) pile of rubble on it. It is not easy to find a place to park the car on the main road, there is no shadow to park the car. It was difficult to bring all the groceries home, the luggages and in our case, to transfer sleepy children to their bed.
The big gate at the garden is electric and typically for cars. There is no other door. It can be very dangerous: One night, when we were at the house, there was a power failure in the village and the door was not working. It was impossible to open the door, so we couldn't go out. If there is a fire as it is happening right now in another part of Corfu (23 July 2023), this electric door can be dramatic.
The house inside the house is very old, there are two bathrooms, one tiny and one huge with à toilet on the corner. There is no air-conditioning in all the rooms, one bedroom doesn't have it, and the Living room neither. You have to let the bedroom door open and wait for it to cool the living room but it was still warm. The beds were really not comfortable, the mattresses were old and some of them thin.
Overall the house was not very clean. There was a lot of dust on the furniture, lamps etc. We found some insects on the floor when we arrived. Dishes were clean and we were able to find what we needed there.
You usually need at least 45' to reach the beach because of traffic. There are two ways, go in the direction to the south or to the north. The road to paleokastritsa is crowded and the beach itself as well. The beach is crowded and you don't have a place to put your towel on the beach. In the north there is a big beach with very cold water. It took us one hour to get there. The beach was ok.
The owner is à German lady called Ute living in Germany and it is a business for her. The keys were to be retrieved in a village shop, no problem here.

The location, up in the mountains was absolutely charming and being high ip, the views were spectacular.
The villa was lovely with three good sized double rooms and spacious open plan kitchen diner.
Ute was incredible, so friendly informative and helpful thank you Ute. We hope to come back next year.
You will probably need to hire a car which I didnt realise.

We really loved this 'home', I cannot wait to visit again. It has such a special feel and character, the location is amazing in a very quiet village. Try the Sunset Taverna near by, try also the walk 'to the beach' down the hill left at Tomateli taverna, the views are amazing. The whole experience is a dream. We visited with two kids age 4 and 8.

very nice and helpful hosts. comfortable beds, mosquito nets in the windows, dark blinds, so the apartment is not stuffy and the sun does not wake at dawn, a large number of towels available, fully equipped kitchen, dishwasher, paper towels, cleaning products, baby cot. Very good room layout, no stairs. There is no parking in the driveway but this is not a problem (and we were with a disabled person), the car can be left 50 meters away. Quiet area, no cars can be heard. The house is located in the village at the top of the hill. The village is flat, there is no need to climb uphill as in the case of many houses that we passed on the way. In Makrades there are small grocery stores, two very good restaurants - Colombo and Sunset, souvenir shops and local products. you can feel the local vibes not the tourist splendor
The road to this place is driving uphill on winding roads, sometimes swinging traffic and passing the cars by several centimeters. the road to the beach takes 20 minutes by car. One way Paleokastritsa beach and the other way Agios Georgios (I recommend this one). 40 minutes a day is quite a lot, but I think it's worth it....
small amount of internet available. the hosts immediately tried to fix the problem but something still goes wrong. The 7mb we had disappeared in 1-2 days (and we didn't watch movies and we were not sitting at home all the time)
