The location of the hotel is wonderful, set in beautiful countryside, but not too far from towns.
Rooms are quite large, comfortable and clean (if a little tired).
The breakfast had a large selection and was a mix of buffet and cooked-to-order dishes.
The rooms looked a little tired on the inside, and it was quite dark in the room.
Reception staff was good but in the restaurant the experience was more mixed (some good, some poor staff).
Dinner was ok, but nothing memorable

Lovely location, rooms ok and clean just old fashioned. We attended a wedding the food was lovely.
Rooms need a little updating
Bar needed more staff
We only wanted hot breakfast and it took 30 minutes before a staff member took our order and another 30 minutes for it to arrive so sitting waiting for an hour was bad service. The breakfast was nice once it arrived.

We had a midweek overnight stay for a wedding vow renewal. The hotel is set in a beautiful location. The hotel is very nice, staff were pleasant and helpful. The meals served were absolutely delicious. The breakfast was excellent, not often you see kippers on the menu, delicious.
The weather

We attended a wedding here before, but never stayed. Our room was directly opposite the door from the stairs, other than some rowdy people around 11.30pm it was very quiet. We had a four poster bed in the rom which was very creaky, every time we turned over but the room was large, had everything we needed and a fab Coffee Machine.
The bathroom was in need of a freshen up. Some wood panelling was a bit warped and the silicone around the edges had gone black. The bath taps and plugs were very old. A good update would have made the stay a little better, but it was all clean.

Debbie at breakfast was very friendly and helpful. Other guests liked her too.
Large airy room
Old building
Countryside
Cobwebs on light fittings
Cold not fresh croissants
Shower control very stiff

The location and the fact you could park outside your room. No need to carry your bags too far
The English breakfast didn’t have alternative if you didn’t want any of the items on the pre set menu

needs a refresh. room had all cobwebs on the curtains and carpet wasn’t fitted properly.

Very nice location, good restaurant, good value and staff was friendly and very helpful.
Some basic amenities were lacking in my room - no tissues, no hand soap, carpet had a large tear in it, decor was lacking, toilet needed flushing on arrival (!!!) and all left the room itself feeling unfriendly. Price was not “budget” to the point of justifying these issues existing.

staff, food, main rooms.
our room was a bit ‘tired’ and some cleaning had been missed

Staff were friendly and courteous. Location is lovely as are the views. Gardens pretty.
Breakfast was good, with a great selection. Bed was comfortable.
The decor is outdated, the room was gloomy, dusty curtains, mildew on blinds. The cleaning was not up to standard and the bathroom door was falling apart. The handle came off in my hand and it was difficult to open and close for the remainder of our stay.

Lovely breakfast and booked a main meal which was also lovely. Lovely location
Bathroom could do with the tiles being grouted in some places

Staff were very friendly, our friends rooms were lovely and updated. Good breakfast
I had messaged the hotel 2 weeks prior to staying to arrange a travel cot for our 6 month old baby to which they said they would arrange and there would be a £5 charge. I also added on breakfast through an email which had an offer on. when my husband and friends husband checked in whilst I stayed at the wedding we were all at, the receptionist had no idea about us needing a cot or having booked breakfast. We were also in a very tired and dated room. She said she would arrange it all and my husband and other guest came back to the wedding. When we all arrived back in the evening, we were very tired and just wanted to put the baby to bed, however the cot was actually a playpen with two pillows put in as a mattress. I did not have the energy to complain, but did not dare put our daughter to sleep in the play pen in case she suffocated in between the pillows, so she slept in our bed. I also did not speak to anyone the following morning as all of our friends had lovely modern rooms and had a lovely stay. I have photos of the ‘cot’ as I actually can’t believe it!

Polite staff

Convenient location for this occasion, food was OK and staff were friendly.
Very rundown decor and carpeting. Disappointing drop in overall standard over the years. Television didn't work and the replacement one the receptionist brought would only work on 1 channel. Several light bulbs were not working.

Nice looking building from the outside in a superb location.
Sadly in need of some real tlc.
Poorly appointed room with historic furniture and the smallest bathroom in the world.

You will either like or dislike the fact that it is out of town, and a little remote.
The weather!
