Stunning and Beautiful.
There was nothing we didn’t like.

To look at, a very handsome old Castle with lovely grounds, in a beautiful setting. Large bedroom with a small shower room. Just off the A1 so a good stop over point for B&B for us. Value for money £106 night including a good full English breakfast.
Bedroom needed updating and didn’t reflect with the beautiful outside of the building, maybe hence the price which was fair in comparison.

Interesting historical property in lovely grounds. Surroundings very quiet and peaceful. Parking satisfactory. Breakfast was good. Bed very comfortable.
Could easily hear occupants of room above talking, thumping around and even toileting - as well as their toilet flushing!! (At least the headboard didn't rattle all night!)
Room and en-suite were basic and tired (Four star it wasn't!). Shower was not much more than a trickle.

Beautiful hotel in a lovely location. Very accommodating staff
Room was a bit basic and a little tired. Bed was slightly springy / soft

Lovely restoration of an old castle.
Spa closed as they had a wedding on, exclusively for wedding guests use only, we weren’t told before we had booked.

Beautiful hotel, friendly professional staff, lovely room. All very good

Breakfast
The fact that no-one was on reception or visible in the hotel when I arrived.

Room was excellent, very comfy king bed and cooked breakfast
All the stairs. To get to breakfast down a flight up another flight and down a third flight. My husband has recently had a knee replacement and I have torn the lining of my hip. On checking in we carried our suitcases up the steep stone steps to reception only to discover we had to carry them back down again to go to our room. Commenting on all the steps to a male staff at breakfast he replied “what do you expect it’s a castle”

location & food were very good
The Standard Double room was very small. Bed was only double and although well presented was cramped. The bedroom was not much bigger than the bathroom

The Castle and its grounds are beautiful and well presented, looked spectacular at night when floodlit. The interior public spaces are impressive and full of character. We had afternoon tea in the Library which was delicious. The evening meal was a little disappointing in comparison, breakfast was good.
The rooms are clean and modern, we were staying in the "annex" part of the Castle, which had the advantage of direct access to the grounds and courtyard.
Overall, we had a really good stay.
The evening meal was so-so. The best option we had was fish but one of our party had chicken which had spent a little too long on the hotplate. However, it was rapidly switched without any argument and another fish provided.

wonderful location. The house was steep in history
The breakfast was very disappointing as some of the buffet style cooked items were rather tough.

Beautiful venue and location
Afternoon tea was terrible and restaurant overpriced for quality of food

beautiful historical castle, set in a great location in-between York and Leeds.
Rude staff when checking in and out.
The basic rooms are very small and uncomfortable.
There was no turndown service.

Staff were excellent. Helpful, accommodating and chatty. The castle is in a beautiful setting. However, the place is a little "tired", the heating and water temperature were ridiculous and we just wonder at how much money you could save by sorting it out....the place was boiling hot! Our room was fine, but when you can't put the kettle on a surface to use (the lead was too short) it makes us wonder if anyone tries staying in these rooms? Sometimes less is more, do you really need a big bulky wardrobe in a small room for example? Just our normal moans at dated hotels really - we have stayed in lots of more modern places lately and think Hazlewood would benefit from a bit of modernity whilst keeping the charm of the old!
The breakfast buffet was very well presented and staff excellent, but again bring your menu up to date and improve the quality of food you offer. Sort the heating out and spend the money saved on some clever updates. Bring in local producers to upgrade the food on offer and you have a winner!!!

Very helpful staff, lovely relaxed atmosphere and great food.
Loved it all.

Staff all super efficient and very cheery
Room very comfortable
Buildings impressive
Historic library with fun 'secret' door
Food good and reasonably priced
No hairdryer on 1st night
Shower far too hot, dangerously hot. Staff were most responsive and arranged a room change. The shower in the new room was still too hot even on the lowest setting. We just about managed to shower.

The atmosphere was really nice
There was a power cut in the evening lasting through the night which prevented any lighting or water flowing. Not the hotels fault but did prevent breakfast or the ability to have a wash as thisnalso stopped water.. Staff remained calm and professional.

We loved the location of the castle since it is approachable but pieceful the same time.We also been offered a room upgrade which was not mentioned but I found it our later. All the staff was more than friendly. The food was nice and the spa experience great.
The bathroom was unacceptable for a 4 star hotel. The curtain was mould and the soap place was full of rust. The shower unit seemed ready to come off and once you opened the water the water was going everywhere due the hard water. The toilet was not operating since it wouldn't flash all the ......
It should be not a bathroom for a 4 star hotel

Beautiful building and grounds. Breakfast was good with lots of choice.
The room was basic and very small for the price.
the spa was very disappointing. I paid for a 60 minute rainfall massage and received a very basic massage which lasted 30 minutes! i did make a complaint which has been ignored!

I arrived late and the hotel reception made me a cheese sandwich....something so simple and yet the gesture has ensured that I will return
