Great location and wonderful grounds. Small resort, but on an incredible beach in Guanacaste.
The staff in the restaurant were kind of aloof - slow service, forgetful sometimes.
The bugs in Guanacaste are always the worst than anywhere else in Costa Rica. Not really a problem with the hotel, but just the region. We spent a week in the deep Osa Peninsula and had less bug bites than 2 nights here.

Bahia del sol is perfect for couple or family getaway. The service from Taco and Carlos was amazing and over the top! We booked last minute and wished we could stay longer! Everything was clean and close by. The town has a great brewery as well we met a ton of American expats.
It was perfect- we hated that we had to leave.

The food is really good
The rooms need remodeling as urgent

The place was fine, but based on the price, I was expecting a lot more.
The property was nice, but the room left a lot to be desired. It felt very basic for something almost $200/night.

The location and views were the only good thing about this place.
Bugs, mold, and leak. We stayed in three different rooms. The first room smelled of mold. I contacted the front office and they dismissed my concerns. I found a black moldy wall and contacted the front office again. they changed our room. the next room had grubs coming from the wall in the restroom. I contacted them and they cleaned it out but the bugs kept coming out. we changed rooms again. the third room had a leak. once we were on the top floor we noticed that our previous rooms had a metal patch which explains the grubs and mold on the walls. the security was also an issue since the sliding doors would not latch correctly. the locks had been changed out incorrectly leaving a gap on the latch. costumer service was lacking. to top it off we all got sick from their breakfast. Don’t stay here.

close to the beach and secure
There wasn’t anything I didn’t like

It was right on the beach, and close to other beaches to travel visit. The food at the restaurant was delicious, and the pool area was comfortable. We enjoyed the live entertainment (couple from Brazil) one night. Our room was well done and the bed was very comfortable. The staff were exceptional. The sunset one night was amazing, I think the best I’ve ever witnessed. We had a wonderful stay.

It was an absolutely exceptional stay! Everything was amazing. The staff was incredible and did everything in their power to make our stay the best. It was better service than places I've paid twice as much for and are considered 5 star resorts. I can't wait to go back!
Nothing. It was amazing.

Nothing, it's a great place to stay

The staff. Jessina and Angie at the front desk were so great to work with. All of the waiters and Joel and Luis were so gracious. The drinks and dinner were great.
The junior suites are badly in need of renovations. The beach is not great. Stay at Bahia but go to Playa Conchal beach.

Very friendly staff and great location for a restful vacation. The restaurants offer good food. The spa is also good.
My only problem was the bed was too soft for me.

not kept up, gardens and pool needed attention

The people were amazing. I love when the staff is there every day and remembers your names! We loved the greenery and the ease of using the beach and pool. it was the prefect size for the kids to go back to the room alone and navigate safely.
The included breakfast was delicious.
Comfortable chairs with ocean view seemed to be readily available.
(big yoga group that spent a lot of time up doing yoga so not sure if without them, the chairs would be more in demand.
Walkable to several restaurants, bars and the brewery and supermarket.
The pool could have been cleaned better.

We drove 300 km to complete disappointment, only the tuna steak was perfect.

Our hotel room was nice an spacious with 2 bedrooms and 2 baths. The size of the facility was perfect. It offered everything we expected, with a nice garden, a pool and direct beach access as well as beautiful sun sets. The hotel restaurant offered delicious food at reasonable prices.
The staff could have been a little more attentive, however service was all in all good. Sometimes there were to many sources of music playing all at once.

The beach was beautiful with Goldilock waves; not too big, not too small. The staff was very attentive and friendly with great English, but willing to let me practice my Spanish. They were available, but not pestering. My son loved the Dutch style bunk beds and wants the same in his room at home now. The pool was clean and inviting at the perfect temperature.
We didn't stay for more nights. We found out about the horseback riding down the beach too late in our stay (we hadn't inquired either).

Nothing
The pictures have nothing to do with the appearance of the hotel. The worst beach I have ever seen in my life, there is no sand, no stones, only mud. The breakfast is so terrible that it's a shame to call it breakfast. The road to the hotel is so tragic that you think you are in a horror movie. In order to get to the hotel, we had to cross the river by car, that's not even in the movies. My well-intentioned recommendation is to run anywhere, just don't go to this hotel. People, I have no words to describe this shame from the hotel. The website says that the hotel has 4 stars, but believe me, this is not a hotel for any stars. Big scam from the hotel

great location - beautiful grounds & very accommodating. rooms were very nice.
housekeeping was great
we had an outdoor spa tub in the back of our room & I turned it on while sitting in it to be blasted by an ant nest (they nested in the pipes) .
I guess it’s the jungle but it would have been nice to get a bit of a different reaction besides the shoulder shrugging. it was really gross and traumatic.

We enjoyed the breakfast very much and loved the beach towel service. Very clean and smelled wonderful!
The toilet didn't flush very well even after being repaired.

The location, directly on the beach, is perfect to watch the best sunset of all Costa Rica. The pool, really beautiful. The food: this is the best place to eat in the area.

The property was on a nice, quiet beach. On my daughter's birthday the provided a cake and sung happy birthday.
Terrible mosquitoes and flies during meals. I made a spa appointment and waited my whole trip for this spa appointment. When I checked in they said the reservation department never told them and nothing was available. We checked out early after our 3rd night. There was a putrid smell in our room that was making us gag and almost vomit. We called maintenance and they said it was fine.... just a zorro. We tried go to sleep but starting getting a headache and stomach ache. We told maintenance again and did some research...apparently a raccoon had urinated on our roof and on the a/c and the smell had overtaken our room. We couldn't breathe in the room. We called maintenance again and then they came in a sprayed a ton of Lysol and heavy air freshener. Then we really couldn't breathe. We requested a new room. When I went to check the new room the raccoon growled at me and followed me to the new room which also smelled like the skunk/zorro/ raccoon urine. We were scared to bring the kids out of the room because of angry raccoon. We barricaded ourselves in our smelly room until sunrise. Then we checked out of the room and went to the W. We had to request a credit and no one reached out to resolve it. It was literally the worst night I've ever spent in a hotel room and I can still taste and smell the zorro/fox/ skunk/ raccoon urine. This was room 302.
The first night we were in 201 and the door didn't close all the way and it room smelled like mold.
