A perfect place to watch the river

Staff was very attentive to our needs. The temperature as over 100 degrees (41 celsius in Luang Prabang) when we arrived and we were having a hard time dealing with the heat. Day manager Mr. Ping allowed us to change rooms to the ground floor and helped us adjust. The other staff went out of their way to arrange for tours and get us oriented to the town. Breakfast and meals at the river view restaurant across the street was outdoors and the staff were also very ettentive.

The hotel staff were incredibly helpful with anything we asked help for - organising day trips, train tickets, recommendations etc. The rooms were comfortable and the location was excellent - very peaceful on the Mekong River and a short walk to the main shops and restaurants.
The hotel was a little old.

Hotel is in a quiet location and offers nice views of the Mekong.
Breakfast that was included was limited and the coffee could be improved.

Helpful staff
Breakfast was basic and left me hungry, but still just a few guests so maybe that's why.
Bed was pretty soft, for my taste. No tissue in the room so had to use toilet paper to blow my nose.

the location on a quiet stretch of the river front
the urinal in the bathroom (was an unneccessary piece of plumbing and smelly)

The view and property look good and clean.
however, most facilities in the room are not functioning such as hair dryer, cooler, bad smell from drainage outside, also smell of smoking ciggaret. The available service are not worth the price.

the location was nice, the room was quite big and the mattress was surprisingly comfortable. love the fact that this hotel is one of the hotels that come with an actual keycard, made my life more convenient when it comes to unlocking the door.
not sure if it was the hotel's policy or not, but the receptionist didn't greet us with welcome drinks on the day we arrived. plus, there was an insect in the bathroom and the rainshower cover fell off while one of my friends was taking a shower.

Desk staff were friendly and helpful, and spoke pretty good English.
Rooms right on the riverfront are probably a bit compromised by traffic noise, but rooms off on the back alleys are very peaceful.
Traditional construction of the units and the decor (wooden floors, old-fashoined furniture) has charm; and it's great to have a little private balcony to sit out on.
Their open terrace 'Viewpoint Restaurant', just a short walk away on the other side of the road, has one of the best views in the whole town; but I had very mixed experiences of the food and service there. (It's perhaps best avoided for main meals while they're under-staffed during the Covid crisis.)
You don't really get much of a view of the Mekong, as there's a road and a line of trees (and telegraph poles, etc.) and a high riverbank between the river and the hotel. Their restaurant just across the road has a fabulous view, but so-so food.
The cable TV package is terrible for English speakers, the worst I've encountered anywhere in SE Asia. Only having a couple of watchable channels is really very disappointing for a hotel at this price point.
I struggled a lot with mould/dust allergies while I was there, and I suspect that cleaning/replacement of the bed cover had not been done regularly while business was slow in recent months.
The elaborate mechanism for tilting the upper portion of the bed I found irritatingly pointless (and it wasn't even working in my room anyway); and it seems to mean that they can't fit a headboard to the bed - which results in your pillows falling down the back of it on to the floor all the time.
The location isn't great: although it's nice to be in the 'old town', and right on the Mekong, this is at the far eastern tip of the peninsula - so, about a 30-minute walk away from the famous Night Market, and also from most of the bars and restaurants you might want to visit, on either side of Mount Phousi.
As I've mentioned, the quality of the restaurant was rather disappointing; and there seem to be no other facilities - gym, spa, bar - that you might expect from a hotel at this price-point. And the facilities in the room are actually fairly basic (not that much space, no easy chairs...). I'd enjoyed a much more enjoyable stay in a simple family-run guesthouse (bigger balcony, bigger fridge, much better TV) for the two weeks prior for about one-fifth of what they charge here. The Mekong Riverview is comfortable, but far from luxurious - and hence doesn't seem to be very competitively priced.

Very nice room, nice environment of the hotel, and staff was helpful and flexible to work.
