Just loved the property and our hosts were exceptional and very entertaining

Beautiful historic property, lovely linens and presentation, friendly hosts and a 5-star breakfast. Delightful.
Would be challenging for someone who finds steps difficult as the bedrooms are upstairs. Otherwise perfection.

Excellent breakfast.home cooked and plenty of it.

lovely old style home , within easy walk of shops & restaurant. Fabulously superb, cooked breakfast.
Hubby would have liked a TV but I found it nice not to have TV, so much more relaxing

It is a charming and special place, a house with antiques, porcelain crockery, large garden and in fact a private nature reserve with a stream where eels are swimming. It is very peaceful and quiet.
John the owner was very nice and helpful. He and his wife made for us a superb full, big and tasty English breakfast, served elegantly. They really did their best.
The location is perfect: it is within a short walking distance from restaurants etc.
The village is very safe. No crime. The owner left his key in the lock...
The charm of the place more than compensates for small technical shortcomings.
Parking was at the gate.
We could have done with some more shelf space in the bathroom.

The host was very nice and hospitable, giving us a home feel. The breakfast was excellent.

Adored this place. Fantastic hosts, beautiful historic house and had everything you could need in room and bathroom and tea available anytime. Breakfast was lovely. Felt like being at home being able to walk in the house and garden with stream and wood. Loved the cat and the white doves! Highly recommend.
Nothing, loved it!

Blythcliffe is a lovely heritage property that sits beautifully in its surroundings. it’s very close to all the wonderful restaurants and cafes.
The gardens are lovely, with lots of doves living in the trees, there are chickens (great eggs), and a very old deaf cat.
The breakfast is exceptional- always fresh and very tasty. They went the extra mile to ensure my husbands dietary requirements were met (coeliac).
Hopefully we will get back there one day.
The wi-fi was patchy, but it’s a great opportunity to get away from devices!!

A very great experience!
John and Lesley's place is full of art, and the furnishings and paintings inside the house make you feel instantly transported back in time.
The ecology of the place is also fantastic, the yard is full of flowers and the doves often hang out in the front yard, so just walking around is a pleasure.
John and Lesley are so warm and helpful. I accidentally hurt my knee before my trip and Lesley was kind enough to say that we would look after you and John helped me carry my suitcase upstairs. I am very grateful for their care.
Breakfast was the highlight of the day, with a great variety of choice. The homemade Croissant and scrambled eggs with salmon were very satisfying.
All in all, I really enjoyed my stay here. If I have the opportunity to visit Akaroa again, I would definitely choose this place again.

Great location, beautiful older property with gorgeous grounds and spectacular views. John, our host was a fount of knowledge and served an excellent breakfast. There's a large balcony, with outdoor furniture, a great place to sit with ( or without) a glass of lovely NZ wine.
We had some rain one afternoon, couldn't sit on the balcony!

The whole stay was fabulous. Can't recommend Blycliffe enough

Lovely hosts, excellent breakfasts, really comfortable bed, and a beautiful house and garden, with furnishings in keeping with the house, resident chickens & doves (and apparently there would normally be eels in the river, but the recent floods seemed to have sent them elsewhere for now).
The wifi in the stables was a bit patchy, but frankly this was a minor issue and did not detract from our stay.

This is a 1857 property and there are significant plans to upgrade all aspects of the property.
it is in need of this upgrade although it was still a comfortable stay

Breakfast was fantastic. Fantastic area loads to do and see. An amazing weekend. We stayed in the stable, above expectations.

The breakfast was excellent with fresh eggs from the hens on the premises and local produce. Our hosts were very friendly and helpful with information about the history of the house and suggestions for the local environment.
The Stables was very comfortable and spacious although the heating was not adequate for the very cold, winter nights.
4.7
The breakfast selection was excellent, great cooked breakfast and not rushed.
The room was cold when we arrived. It is Winter but would have been nice to have some heating on ready for our arrival.

Blythcliffe is one of the oldest homesteads in NZ set in a gorgeous mature garden.
We were upgraded to the Stables which was really spacious and warm .
Lovely furniture and great to have the bath to relax in on a cold winter night.
John and Leslie are very warm and friendly hosts .
It was really interesting to learn about the history of the house.
The breakfast was wonderful with many choices.
It was great to be transported back to another time what a lovely escape so peaceful .
We walked to all our Cafe and Restaurant choices just down the road.

Excellent continental breakfast with fresh croissants! Full cooked breakfast available too. Bonus EV charging as well.
4.7
Lovely room in a lovely house, brilliant hosts and very flexible with different breakfast options! Walking distance to eateries and great comms from them offering suggestions and helpful tips on where to go etc. Also a beautiful old puss to keep you company if you like cats!
No real negatives. Only thing would be to be prepared to lug your suitcase up some steep stairs if you stay in the main house :-)
4.7
it has beautiful surroundings as well as being a lovely large house. The host was extremely welcoming and the breakfast was amazing. The room was very comfortable and warm. An amazing job has been done in refurbishment.
Everything was great.
