Wonderful place
The staff was the best of Cambodia
The food was good for a good price.
Kayaking on the mangrove was amazing with the sunset

The staff were exceptional. Very attentive and kind when one of us was ill, giving us lots of ginger honey tea and fresh fruit. They even sent us off with a tub of biscuits and some mangos. Can’t recommend them enough.
Amazing place with free kayaks for use. Sits on part of the river where you can do a 1 hour kayak loop, or kayak out to the main river where you can stop in for a beer! And a nice friendly cat.
Nothing it was all perfect.

Alles was super. Vriendelijk welkom met een bakje vers fruit. Bed was prettig.

What a gorgeous place to stay! Staff were so friendly, the communal area was so comfy and the food served was delicious and reasonably priced. They even let my friend from another hotel come on the kayak with me for free. They were really hospitable. I only stayed for 2 nights but would have been very happy there staying for a few nights more.
NB it's a 10 minute tuktuk from town but only 2$ so not an issue. It's a good place to relax away from the dust of town!

DANKE!
Alles perfekt. Es gab noch nicht mal eine Stechmücke 😉

The staff was amazing, the facilities were great and calm and the activities provided by the resort were fabulous ! We did kayaking for free just next to our bungalow and it was amazing ! I recommend it a lot.

great staff, beautiful scenery, you see that they put a lot of effort in that place
it’s a little outside of town but if you get a scooter it’s not a problem (10min ride)

Super friendly stuff, amazing vakue for money and great guesthouse. The staff brought us snacks and drinks every afternoon for free. You can take the kayak for a roundtrip around the green loop which is very beautiful (you also pass by some very cute bars). The guesthouse itself is very pretty, with its wooden walls, little lights in the evening, hammocks and lounge chairs. If you want to get around you can rent a scooter.
The location is slightly outside but perfectly next to the green loop. So if you want to stay in the city center, it might not be your choice.

nice place, noce atmosfere and very welcoming staff
Impossible to sleep, many noises of all
kinds (music, roosters, boat engines, people talking at 6 am while having breakfast, dogs barking…you name it)

Relaxing spot away from the main town. Hut was clean, comfortable and came with a large mosquito net. The balcony outside was lovely to sit out on in the day and evening. It came with a two big chairs and a hammock! The food at the restaurant was lovely, we ate for breakfast and dinner there - both good. We used the free kayaks to go down the river which was a good afternoon activity. The staff were really friendly and they arranged a Tuk Tuk driver to take us to the Pepper Plantation.
Our room was next door to a bar but it didn’t bother us too much as they weren’t too busy and loud.

Monika and girls working together there was just amazing! They treat me like a part of family not like a guest. Beautiful place with beautiful people!
Everything was perfect

it was very peaceful and relaxing. I requested a room on the river. tiny river with foliage so not much a view, but still peaceful and I liked people watching those that passed by on it some times.
location might not be good depending on what you’re looking for. I knew I wanted to stay and relax here and only do kayaking. so it was perfect for me but if you’re looking to go downtown you’ll need a ride each time.
wanted to kayak and one of the women were so kind and said she would come with me before I said anything else. she was worried I’d get lost. it is a huge system with turn offs so that was kind. I wanted to stay out for sunset but felt too bad asking her as I didn’t want her to feel obligated to stay out after she said we’re going back.
oh and mosquito nets included!

we can only spend good words for Retro. we stayed there twice in the span of six months and will keep coming back whenever in Kampot. the original owner, Alain, set the ground for a magical setting which is now run buy Monika and her lovely family staff. Monika doesn’t just accommodate any of your needs —she anticipates them. she is the most welcoming, caring, fun host you’ll ever get to meet. everyone here works hard to always make sure you have access to all you can possibly wish for: delicious home-cooked food, daily room service, motorbikes, bicycles, kayaks… and big smiles.

We stayed 2 nights in the double room with en-suite bathroom and AC at Retro Kampot. The room is above the restaurant in the main building and has a shared balcony. The shared living area and restaurant just downstairs is convenient as we never had to wear our shoes around the place! There are also a few standalone bungalows with private balconies and neighbouring rooms with shared bathroom. The design is rustic shabby chic french colonial charming. The walls are thin and the room is a wooden structure, not sealed/insulated so the AC works but only to an extent. There are gaps in the wooden slats, so if you are comfortable living amongst the river jungle nature, this is a great experience. We had a giant (larger than adult hand) Huntsman spider and a little frog living in our bathroom, both eat cockroaches and mosquitos. We never saw any cockroaches but there were a lot of Mosquitoes, so we were thankful for a large sized mosquito net in the room (we also brought our own mosquito plug ins and coils which helped). The owner Alain and manager Monica were friendly and generous, offering fresh fruit & crispy sweet donut-type snacks with our drinks, & serving generous dinner portions. There was hot water in the shower and plenty of hanging space for clothes. The property is located right on the river, with access to kayak for a $3/ hour fee. A tuk tuk to the hotel from kampot town is $2-2.50 (about 10-15 minutes away). Good food (generous portions) and beers were great on site, and there is also another bar next door, as well as a couple other river front bars about 5 minute walk away.
it was great value & a unique experience for a short stay, so just a couple points to make it even more comfortable. We would have liked a better sealed room so the AC could work a bit better. The shower and sink waste water flowed into a hole in the corner of the bathroom, so sometimes this could over flow a little and bring up some dirt.

We staid two nights at Retro Kampot Guesthouse and we had an amazing stay !
- Although not located in the center of Kampot, the guesthouse is easy to reach by rickshaw or by motorbike ! It is possible to rent a motorbike directly at the guesthouse
- Monika, Alain and the staff were all adorable (I asked if it was possible to have a small candle for my boyfriend’s birthday and they kindly prepared a beautiful cake :) )
- You can go on a kayak tour (for free) on the nearby river, which is very beautiful !!
- The common area and the rooms are very well decorated and cozy (very comfortable mattress and hot water)
Thank you for the great stay :) !!

Monika and staff are very kind and helpful. Quite nice close to the river. Nice trip with the kayak. Good food.
We booked 3 bungalows with river view but only got one that was close to the river. One was close to the neighbours and they were noisy.

The property offered free Kayaks, which we took full advantage of and spent over an hour exploring the river and surroundings. The seating outside our room was super comfortable and was very relaxing to chill out and read our books. It was only a short Tuk Tuk ride in to the city which was easy to arrange and very cheap. There was a very nice restaurant next door to the property which we had a few meals at but the food that they had at the property was also very devious. This is not a luxury get away but a fantastic rustic stop over.

Our best guesthouse in Cambodia, Monica is the nicest person and her staff really dedicated. The food is excellent, and you're offered a delicious fruit salad when you arrive. The bungalows are very cute and located next to a river. You can borrow kayaks from the guesthouse which we loved, and rent scooters for a good price.
It is 10 min away from the centre in tuk tuk/motorbikes, but this allows you to be in a more authentic environment
Not always very quiet at night but mostly the sounds of nature so it was not a big problem for us either
