Fabulous location for watching magical sunsets
Wish each room had a small bar fridge to put fruit for snacks. Restaurant closed very early so it was a long evening without option of snacks…. Hotel is a bit isolated from restaurants in Mazunte

The place is right on the beach, with a large terrace/restaurant and a decent pool. Rooms are spacious and the private terrace provided a fabulous sea view.
The electricity was sometimes failing and the internet was outright slow.
The restaurant is not recommended. We ordered a simple breakfast, which took more than an hour to serve, with only seven other people in the restaurant who had ordered equally simple items. When finally they served our food, it was already cold.

Las instalaciones, la limpieza, la vista y la tranquilidad del lugar, excelente opción para descansar
Solo sugiero igual en la parte de la
Vista al mar unas amacas o camastros.

No food service after 6

We arrived and it seemed to be going well until…
We had to leave Casa Ofelia after our first night as we were bitten by bedbugs. We each had over 40 bites on our legs. We went to a medical professional and received medical attention as we have had a severe allergic reaction to the bites. The hotel failed to acknowledge that this is what happened and refused to compensate us. Please see below for a full outline to what happened:
1. Casa Ofelia was the first place which we stayed on the Oaxaca coast. Previous to this, we stayed in Mexico City which had a cold climate and none of our group experienced bites previous to staying at Casa Ofelia. We later stayed in alternative accommodation and have had no further bites.
2. When 2 of the 4 guests from our party (staying in separate guest rooms) received medical attention for the bites endured, the doctor was very clear that this was a result of bed bugs as per the areas / pattern in which the bites appeared on the ankles, feet and lower legs of the body.
3. The bites are very distinctive to being a bite of a bed bug (see images) as opposed to mosquito. Furthermore, we did not see or hear any mosquitos when at Casa Ofelia, and in researching what the bites may have been, before we went to the doctor, we understood that this is the low season for mosquitoes in the area.
4. We shared the doctors notes with the management, of which they took copies which had a special note in Spanish to inform the hotel management of the doctors findings.
6. We showed the manager the bites, and he could see that they were a localised area of the body and displayed a form and pattern of bedbugs. The manager acknowledged that the bites were from bed bugs and said that they’d had a problem previously in their other hotel the Alta Mira but never this one.
7. On leaving the hotel, we settled our Food and Beverage bill. The management suggested to off set this against the first room night but we declined as said that we would like a full refund.

Beach front, very friendly staff. Beautiful location. Excellent AC in the rooms, pool is the perfect temperature.
some relaxing music by the pool would just make it perfect. Sunset on the beach and a drumming circle right in front the property.

comfortable room, great pool, very quiet and peaceful location
no fault of the hotel but the beach is too rough at this location to swim in.

Casa Ofelia is one of the most beautiful places I've ever stayed in my life. The rooms are huge and have gorgeous original wood work and mosaic art, beautiful views, and great facilities—hot water and cold AC! The pool is incredible, somehow it stays cool even when it's sweltering outside. It's also incredibly peaceful—I really appreciated the effort to maintain the vibe, which inspires a connection to nature as you can hear the uninterrupted power of the surf. The food is home cooked and so so delicious. Raquel and her staff are so kind and provide the most exceptionally hospitable experience anyone could ask for.
I absolutely love the location as it's away from the noise and parties of the town. But it wouldn't be for everyone, since it's a short walk up a hill from where all the stores are. Raquel is so kind and will make your stay super pleasant if you don't have everything you need when you arrive—she even picked up sunscreen for me! But just something to know so you aren't surprised by it's remoteness. I was more than happy to get my steps in and take the walk when I needed to go into the town, for me it was a totally acceptable exchange for the beauty and peacefulness of this hotel!
Nothing! It was perfect!!!!

The manager, Raquel, was very difficult and she made the stay very unpleasant and stressed. She tricked us, and changed her story constantly, we got ripped off. We paid double the amount we reserved for. Really, stay away from this place. Unless, the owner changes the host, I will tell everyone to stay away from this place.

The location was great right on the beach. We loved the people. The day person was personable and sweet. She didn't speak English but used her translation program on her phone to make sure we were communicating. The woman in the restaurant was accommodating and makes fantastic margaritas. The room was very nice and the decor was very beautiful with tables and furniture made locally and mosaic wall hangings, the exterior also was very decorative and the pool a relaxing place to spend an afternoon. Setting tathe outside cafe area and having the scenery of the ocean was a definite bonus.
The manager had dogs and they were friendly but at night they barked and howled and kept us awake into early morning. The food at breakfast was passable but not great. We had a friend staying a short distance away and she was not allowed on the property, not even to buy breakfast or a cup of coffee, no exceptions. Beach was a great place to walk, lay in the sand or to get wet by the incoming waves. But it is not a swimming beach as the waves and current are to strong to swim.

The property is beautiful and in a good location.
The stay was extremely disappointing for no good reasons. It could be a perfect stay.
I arrived late (early evening). The staff was confused. Even though a highly 'rated' hotel, there was no food. Lights were out mostly and the hotel looked deserted. There was unfinished construction and things being rebuild around the hotel.
They could not give me directions to walk to centre etc... and once I went for a walk soon after arriving, I got threatened by a guard.
Such mismanagement and unprofessionalism just makes me sad.

The location right at the beach is dreamlike, the room was spacious & clean, the pool area is beautiful.
Without any information given prior the restaurant and bar was closed, neither breakfast nor dinner, and no shops in walking distance. The one staff person staying there was not very helpful in giving us info on where to get food at the night of our arrival. Luckily there was an (amazing yet expensive) restaurant at the far end of the beach we ended up going to every night. Barely any other guests. The place seems like the owners have given up on it a little or maybe it's in the process of being sold? It felt weird to stay here... even though the location and amenities by itself are beautiful.

Location is 50/50... Right on the beach but there is a steep hill to climb everytime you want to go to/come from town

Location is insane but we expected something different. if you enjoy lonely, hidden. natural beaches, you will enjoy it.
Manager could not speak any English. Loud sound from the waves can be a bit scary. Furthermore you should love action, we found a scorpio in my bed. The way to the hotel was destroyed by a hurricane in 2022, so it wasn’t that comfortable to get to the hotel.

We loved that we could walk right from our room door onto the beach. You could hear the waves crashing against the sand 24/7, it was absolute heaven. We also loved how friendly the staff was. From the moment we arrived everyone was kind and welcoming, often making suggestions for good spots to check out in town. The room and restroom was large and spacious and and there was turn-down service even during our short stay.
The road to the hotel was a hot mess. There was a massive gouge dividing the road that made it nearly impossible for our rental car to drive on. We managed to get the car out without getting stuck a day before we had to leave but lugging our carryons barefoot through the mud in the dark to reach the car early the morning we left wasn't exactly relaxing. Had we known the condition of the road was so bad we would have opted for a backpack instead of rolling luggage. The host at the hotel was great and said they were trying to convince the neighbors to allow for the roads to be fixed but it seemed like it was going to be an uphill battle.
Casa Ofelia is about a 10 minute walk to the small nearby town which was actually very enjoyable, except for the muddy road that was really only walkable with bare feet (sandals get stuck and kick up mud everywhere and sneakers soak through - one time we put our sneakered feet into plastic bags and trudged through the mud so we could hike Punta Cometa comfortably. That worked well). Luckily, most of the town was barefooted as well so it wasn't a problem to cruise around shoeless.

EVERYTHING. The room is incredible, with a lovely balcony with a wonderfull seaside view. Also you can enjoy the delicious food from the restaurant or enjoy the great pool all just by the sea side. Staff is excellent, very kind and attentive. It's so calm and relaxing, didn't want to leave. This is a great place for couples or people who just want to relax and forget about life stress.
It's a long walk to the town center, but it's totally worht it for the peace and exclusiveness this place offers.

The location and the facility were beautiful! It was right on the beach and we could watch the sunset every evening. It provided a nice retreat from the busy tourist scene in Mazunte.
Although close to Mazunte, the drive was difficult to navigate, especially when trying to get back around sunset. The food was good, but there were not many choices. We are vegetarian and most of the entrees were seafood. The plumbing in our room was wonky and some of the plastic pipes were not secured so the sink leaked onto the floor. It was the height of the humid season when we were there and our air conditioning wasn't working the first night. It got much better after they figured out it was a tripped fuse switch.

good place and luxury but they need some single beedroom that are a bit cheaper for solo travelers
you basically have to speak Spanish to be able to communicate which is okay bc we’re in Mexico but one should be aware

Beautiful setting!
Amazing staff! Thank you to Adelina, Amauri & Tony for making us feel at home!
It’s a diamond in the rough!!! So many little details could make this place outstanding…
i.e real curtain rods in the bedroom, outdoor lighting on the street side, better patio furniture to name a few… I wish they offered an communal outdoor kitchen/fridge that guests could use for some of their meals. we would have stayed longer if they did. The restaurant is ok. It would have been nice if they offered more choices.

The location of this hotel is excellent if you are looking for a peaceful escape. The rooms were nice and big and you have a nice view of the beach through the palm trees. You have your own patio or balcony area for some simi-private lounging. Very nice swimming pool and patio area. They have a restraint and their beers and drinks are always ice cold. You can't help as to get a great night of sleep on the comfy king size bed as you fall asleep to the crashing waves.
Although you are on the beach, crashing waves, awesome sunsets, just know that you must take caution if you venture into the water as the waves can be pretty rough.
You are only a short Taxi ride to La Ventanilla, a small community that has two Eco Tourism boat rides through the Mangroves, and you will see Crocodiles as well.
Limited menu, and it's mostly seafood. A great setting for the restaurant, but I just wish they had some other traditional Mexican dishes, or even a nice juicy hamburger. Not that this is a bad thing, but getting to El Centro de Mazunte. You will need a Taxi or simply walk. The walk is not bad, and only about 15-20 minutes. If you are elderly, or in my wife's case, she has a hip issue, you can feel a little stranded, but then again, you are stranded in a bit of paradise. We heard at times the Taxi is late, or does not show up at all. Make sure you have the number to Carlos Ortiz Taxi, he's he best. We did take-out a couple nights, so a Taxi works out great if you are hauling bags of laundry and food and you can grab one fairly quick in town.
The town of Mazunte is different world. It's like you are not even in a sleepy little Mexican town. Real Hippy vib, so just be aware of that. You need to take the good with the bad and just enjoy the best it has to offer as there are some good places to eat.

We booked two rooms as we traveled with my parents. The rooms are large and nicely appointed with huge comfortable beds, excellent wifi, desk in the room if you want to work and big roomy bathrooms with plenty of space to store your things. Mermejita beach is amazing, so quiet and stunning, feels almost private as you may find yourself completely alone. We loved watching the sunset each night, body surfing the waves in the morning and admiring the view all day long and staring at the stars late at night. The free carafes of water in the room is an appreciated touch. The downstairs room facing the ocean is great, excellent value! Overall the property is absolutely lovely, better than expected and we'd stay again in one of the downstairs rooms.
The breakfast was good but very expensive. You get charged for milk for the coffee and for coffee refills which seems a bit stingy considering the price of the hotel room & price of the meal. They only offer french fries & guacamole in the evening. We booked two rooms, one on the ground floor, one upstairs. The upstairs room was more expensive and not worth the cost as the room is hotter than the one downstairs (we stayed in 4 hotels over a month and this room was the only one where we had to put on the a/c). Also the balcony is practically unusable as there's no cover / protection from the sun. The view from the room is pleasant but not remarkable enough to justify the added cost. I'd 100% go back to Casa Ofelia but only for the downstairs rooms.
