This place is amazing! Both the host and the onsite manager were super helpful and easy to communicate with. The internet is much improved since our last visit.

second year in a row our extended family of 13 visited pop's place for a week of fun. weather was fantastic and we felt we knew our way about having stayed last year. the pond had changed a bit. the zip line was taken down, for insurance reasons i'm sure. there were no longer any cat fish in the pond, which disappointed our little fishermen, but they still had great fun bouncing on the tethered trampoline and taking the row boats out. we would highly suggest this wonderful paradise. a chance to get into the country without being too far from home.

We stayed 3 nights in this beautiful home in May of 2024 to host a family celebration. The weather was perfect and the property was gorgeous. The trees & flowers were blooming and everything was a gloriously green. There are two adorable bungalows with their own bathrooms located on the grounds. There’s also a large cottage room that’s connected to the main house with a huge bathroom and walk-in closet. For fun there’s a volleyball court, tennis court, basketball court, a lake you can swim in, not to mention an awesome library! In the evenings we hung out by the firepit, barbecued & enjoyed the beautiful night. It was a magical 3 day weekend with my family and we can’t wait to book another trip next year!! The owner and caretaker were great with communication & were so welcoming. Absolutely love this place, it deserves 5 stars for sure!!

Once you arrive, you never want to leave. This place is close to many things, but it is the location that feels most isolated from the world that we've ever spent time in.

This is an excellent property for a retreat or reunion. 5/5!

Beautiful property. One of my favorite VBRO finds! Celebrated my moms 90th birthday. Place was perfect for us. Would come back again for sure!
Communications with owners and onsite manager were excellent
Only improvement I would make is to add another bathroom in the main house

This was one of the best vacation properties I have had the pleasure of staying at. They literally have everything you need there like a fully decked out kitchen, fire wood, and even recreation supplies.
I truly enjoyed my stay here and would book again.
The property is amazing and the house/ cottages are big and decorated very nicely. I miss it already.

This place was beautiful, words cannot describe it. Communication with property management was great, the sunrise and sunsets were beautiful. Our hike to the stream was so much fun! The fishing pond and fire pit was so much fun! Too much to list, but we will definitely be coming back.

We just had the most wonderful reunion at this same house we had rented 10 years ago to stay at when we got married at Empire Mine. The house is even more amazing than we remembered. The property managers are the kindest sweetest hosts and we had the most beautiful stay. Everything was clean and easy and accessible. The grounds were just lovely. The kids enjoyed the vineyard and apple trees and going to see the horses and donkeys. The hike to the creek was beautiful and the zip line and trampoline and row boats as fun as ever. Thanks for the most wonderful weekend. We will cherish the memories until we can come back and do it all again!

Pat & Kathleen were such gracious hosts! We had a large group for an engagement party! There is so much to do on this property! From fishing to basketball there’s something for everyone. Our group all couldn’t believe how magical the home and property are! The book shelf in the main house is the focal point of the home. The outdoors is where our guests mainly were for much of the day at the pond riding the zip line. If you are considering this place you must go! You won’t have an experience like this place elsewhere!
We will be coming again based on the feedback we will be making this a yearly experience! Thanks so much!

This place was a true dream property. We have a wonderful time with a large group of friends and kids for my husbands 40th birthday. The house was beautiful and immaculate when we got there. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a great vacation. Pricey, yes. But completely worth it. The home has very helpful property caretakers on site if needed as well. Thank you!! We will be back.

This is a stunning house. And it must be noted that the caretakers of this property are simply magical. They are friendly, helpful and anticipate exactly what we needed. How do they do that! They took us down to the river to show us the best swim spots. They helped with any little question. And yet they are unobtrusive and left us to enjoy the house and property on our own. I can't wait to come back!

Nothing about our trip could not have been better. We were a large group, multiple families with kids and adults of all ages.
Before even arriving, the communication with Kathleen, the property manager, was great. She was so friendly and answered all of our questions about the house and was very helpful.
When we arrived, the property was breath taking. Everything exceeded expectations. The house is amazing and well stocked with games, books, linens, full kitchen with all you might need, and plenty of outdoor equipment for the kids and adults to play with. The pictures simply just don’t do this place justice.
Most of all, Kathleen and Patrick are amazing hosts. They were there to greet us upon arrival and show us around. They live on the property but do not invade your privacy during your stay. They are so friendly and helpful if there is anything you need. Patrick showed us some great places for hiking and where the creek was. The pond, zip line and animals on the property kept the kids (and adults) busy throughout the day.
We will definitely be booking a return visit!

This was our second time visiting Pop’s Place and it did not disappoint! We love our time on the ranch and utilized all of the amenities. The house and casitas were spotlessly clean and inviting. We can’t wait to go back!

We celebrated my mother’s 90th birthday with a family gathering on Saturday and a smaller group of us staying the full weekend.
The kids loved the pond with the floating trampoline, zip line, and boats.
We all had fun with tennis, croquet, volleyball, and board games.
The kitchen is really well supplied for meal preparation and we used the outdoor BBQ as well.
The managers were very friendly and helpful when we needed, but otherwise very quiet and respected our space.
Comfortable beds everywhere and the cabins have lovely verandas for early morning or evening peaceful sky and valley views.
A wonderful stay - we recommend!

This property is incredible and serene. The private pond was such a great hang out spot with the family. Will definitely be coming back.

We spent 5 days with our grown kids and grandkids at this amazing property. The pictures do not do it justice. All ages had a great time. The pond was well used, although if we go again we would ask that it be skimmed well before we arrive from the plant that grows profusely in the water.
It was recommended for us to take a 25 minute hike to a river that is on the property. Some went swimming and discovered leeches in the river. It is also not shallow enough for a toddler. None of us enjoyed that activity.
The kids enjoyed fishing off the dock and using the zip line and visiting the donkeys.
As other reviews have mentioned, there is only one bathroom in the main house which can be a problem with a lot of kids. Even though the adjoining cottage and bungalows have their own bathroom, it is inconvenient to leave the main house to use another bathroom, especially for children.
The adjoining cottage is beautiful and large and the bungalows, although small, are perfect for a couple. All in all we had a wonderful time bonding as a family.

We spent a week at Pop’s place. It was amazing! It had everything we needed. Tons of dishes and serve ware for large groups, so many sleep options and the grazing cows on property are a bonus.
Pat and Kathleen are great hosts and available to help at any time.

Perfect spot for a 2 night stay with 7 couples. We had most meals on the property and enjoyed playing pickle ball for the first time. Beautiful property and we enjoyed a fun mile hike down to the river. Great get away!

The pictures didn't lie one bit! Our executive team was very pleased with the property, the accommodations and the amenities! Thank you to our wonderful hosts for being so responsive to all of our pre-visit questions and for making us feel so welcome during our stay. 10/10 for sure! We'll be booking again very soon!

Our group of 13 had a wonderful time at the property. We had a ton of space for everyone and the surroundings were beautiful. The only caveat is the main house only has 1 bathroom and the adjacent cottage has 1 bathroom so if want more bathrooms or room privacy rent the additional casitas with the property.
The property is beautiful and full of trails, a river you can walk to and even horses you can visit while they graze in the pasture. Very peaceful.
The property managers were lovely and made us feel so welcome. Everything was ready for us when we arrived and we had no issues at all with the house, the property, the amenities, etc. Overall everything was wonderful and exceeded our expectations. We will be back!

Thanks for a great stay! Our young kids enjoyed exploring the trails and seeing the animals. Everything was wonderful.

This home is large and very welcoming. We had a family gathering with 12 people and we were all comfortable and the setting is just about perfect.

The property was absolutely beautiful and the house was amazing. The property managers were very nice and attentive but gave us our privacy which we really appreciated. Everything was in perfect working order and very well equipped for a large group of people. The only thing that I would recommend for large groups that plan on enjoying wine/champagne is to bring your own glasses. The house does not stock stemmed wine glasses.
I definitely plan on coming back to this property, it's perfect for a wonderful family vacation!

Being able to stay at the Ranch for a few days is like being in paradise. The beauty of the Sierra Nevada foothills in the fall is spectacular, with the tree leaves turning bright yellow, deep red and tawny brown. This was our sixth year at the Ranch over the long Thanksgiving weekend and we still gasp at the livability of the Ranch house, easily accommodating our extended family group this year of 11 people, and the magnificent grounds with a rich variety and abundance of flora.
The creation of an active creek flow over rocks and under the existing weathered wooden bridge is a great addition to the house garden. We loved hearing the trickle of water as it tumbled its way into the pond. The larches on the creek slopes were in their red fall finery like guards to the palace, when we were there.
The new caretakers, Kathleen and Pat, warmly welcomed us and made every effort to ensure our wonderful stay. They are an asset to the ambiance of the place. Thank you…and, fingers crossed, for many more good times for us at the Ranch. Tonia and Herb and family

We really loved the area and all this property had to offer. The kids absolutely loved it and there were no worries about where or what they were doing! The caretakers were great and treated us like family.

Our group of 14 had one of the best vacations ever in this fabulous, amazing property. I can’t find the words to truly describe how wonderful it was. It was like being in a fantasy playground…the pond with the zip line and trampoline provided recreation for everyone in our group…ages 2-72. The water was warm and inviting. I don’t really enjoy being in a pool, but I didn’t want to get out of the pond. If we weren’t in it we were around it…sitting on the dock while the kids played in the sand on the little beach or rowing in the two boats provided. There was also a hot tub. The house was amazing too…it was huge with various sleeping arrangements…lots of bunk beds for the kids. After dinner every night we sat out by the fire pit and made S’mores The kids loved the freedom that came along with such a vast expanse of outdoor space. We were all sad to leave…the little ones cried and are already asking to come back again. We loved loved loved this property!!!!!

Like having your own private summer camp!
This place was so awesome! Plenty of room for the families, 13 adults and three children. We enjoyed swimming, playing corn hole on the lawn and relaxing by the fire pit. Don the property manager was great and so helpful. I highly recommend this property!

Impressive property
There was so much to do on the property! The host was great and immediately helped with anything we needed. The house itself was clean and very comfortable. It's far enough away to feel like you're completely secluded in nature but close enough to civilization in case you forgot something from the grocery store. The private hiking trails and beautiful creek nearby were huge perks. It was also really nice surprise to find an herb garden right by the kitchen door. My whole group had a fantastic time!

Perfect and complete
This property is a complete package. you can relax at the pond with a book, or you may go for a hike to a nearby creek, or you may want to put on camp fire and have dinner with your loved ones. We, a group of family and friends, enjoyed every moment of our stay. Kids and toddlers were part of our group, and they had equal fun at the pond playing with sand, running around the property, petting horses/donkeys.
Don was very helpful and responsive. He made sure our stay was comfortable.

Perfect, peaceful, and fun property!
My group of 15 adults had an amazing time here. There’s no shortage of fun things to do - hot tubbing, cold plunge into the pond, and cozying up by the fire. The kitchen is great for cooking for a big crowd. Don, the property manager, was extremely communicative, helpful, and friendly! My favorite part was feeding carrots and petting the sweet horses and miniature donkeys. We had fun hiking on the trails around the property and exploring the book collection. We didn’t bring any kids but it would definitely be perfect for families. We are already trying to figure out when we can come back!

Fabulous Thanksgiving at the Ranch
We feel lucky to have once again experienced this magical place. We have run out of superlatives to describe staying at the Ranch. Everything we have said in the previous four years still stands. Its setting in the Gold country of the Sierra foothills, the peacefulness of its isolated 200 acres, the magnificent, beautifully crafted farmhouse, the abundance of activities available (hot tubbing, zip lining, fishing, hiking, cozying by the fireplace—to name but a few), the cows in the meadow and horses and donkeys, the spectacular sunsets and the kindness and responsiveness of Don, the steward of the enterprise—all contribute immensely to our stay. This was our fifth year of gathering as a family (grandparents, kids and grandchildren), from near and far to celebrate Thanksgiving together. Thanks, but many thanks for allowing us this extraordinary pleasure. Tonia and Herb

Great place, felt somewhat unwelcome
Agree with many that the property is fantastic, like having a summer camp all to yourself. The swimming hole zipline was a highlight for our crew, as were the beautiful grounds. Unfortunately as at least one other review said, this rental is not totally welcoming to a group of adults- caretaker Don seemed nice but as soon as he found out there weren’t any kids in our group we were under suspicion and I’m not sure what we could have done to get out from under that. Unannounced visits and insinuation that we would damage the property (or that our behavior would require calling the sheriff) marred our stay, and our damage coverage was ultimately charged for the replacement of a broken picture frame, an incident we had no knowledge of. Overall we enjoyed our time at the ranch, but wish that communication had gone more smoothly.

Vacation paradise!
The Ranch is as good as advertised. Ranch Manager, Don, gave us a welcome tour explaining important details and was within yelling distance if we needed anything.
Main house and cottages are nicely decorated and have good quality furnishings, bedding and linens. All 14 of us fit at the dining table which made meal time extra fun. Landscaping is well maintained and felt like a park. Trees provide shade for lounging by the pond or relaxing with a book. The children loved the zip line; we all loved the pond. Entire family agreed this is the best place we ever stayed. Heartily recommend.
