4.5
It was a lovely experience staying the night here, in this beautiful historic building. We had a really special meal at the restaurant, a 9-course tasting menu!

The atmosphere was absolutely incredible from the second you walked in the door. You will wake up to breathtaking views all around.
We did have to switch rooms upon arrival due to a glitch in the booking.com website. The room we were switched to was a slight downgrade and due to the glitch they couldn't refund us the difference. Despite all of this we absolutely loved our stay and would go back in a heartbeat.
4.5
Modern creature comforts and amenities and traditional charm. The cooking at the restaurant was near-Michelin star quality.
Breakfast is 23 GBP/person extra which was not evident at the time of booking (but it was very good).

Location, peaceful

Very clean and staff friendly
Waaaaay too expensive and food drinks etc too expensive too. £23 for breakfast pp is ridiculous on top of the price already paid. Cocktails £14 and dinner £70pp. Too expensive in my opinion

This property is in a great location and the room was exceptionally clean
The restaurant looked absolutely fantastic, however they only seemed to offer a tasting menu for £105

Great location, beautiful hotel, restaurant was a not-to-miss experience. After walking for 8 days, was a welcome splurge, complete with fast and convenient laundry services.
Was a little hot at night without air conditioning.

Hotel is good. Good location.
Their child policy isn't as per booking.com standards. All other hotels will allow kids as per their child policy. The manager (Lady) on duty REFUCED us entry since we had not mentioned children in the booking. All other hotels have allowed us. We were forced into booking an extra room, which we didn't use.
Very unsatisfactory customer experience.
Kindly please update the child policy to avoid unsatisfactory customer experiences.

Great and charming hotel, beautiful lobby with chimney, great staff, amazing restaurant, comfi room, parking with EV chargers
breakfast, my salmon pouched egg was delicious, and i could order more, but i simply missed a rich buffet feeling.

Location
Dining room was closed both days of our stay which was disappointing.

Fantastic hotel [more like a b&b] with terrific staff. We arrived after a full 24 hours of traveling from the States then driving from Inverness and were exhausted and they let us check in early which was heavenly[Thanks Lou]. The room was bright, clean and comfy and the breakfasts were perfect with wonderful pastries and delicious cooked food too. Highly, highly recommend.
Nothing. Great place

I stayed at numerous 5 star hotels and this hotel had by far the best breakfast and service, the lady at reception very helpful and service was superb and all of them are so friendly , they go the extra mile, the sourdough bread toast , porridge with apple, smoke salmon all ingredients top quality and well cooked, , room very clean, with fresh milk and excellent tea and coffee , all the other hotels we stayed at which were 5 star give you long life .

Beautiful hotel and great location
We were in room 20 - temp was very warm & hard to cool off. Restaurant was quite expensive - recommend you go off premise for food

Food fantastic, staff lovely and really helpful....wonderful stay

Food was delicious, the view from our room was lovely. The location is perfect for what we were looking for (centrally located for Highland day trips, but not a large city) and the town itself is just perfect. We will absolutely be back the next time we're in the Highlands.
Having ala carte options at breakfast would be much preferred. A Prix Fixe menu for breakfast is not something we enjoyed.

The property is immaculately kept, wonderfully decorated, yet still very cosy and warm. Absolutely lovely facilities!

Breakfast - I have worked for hotels that are part of Relais and Chateaux but this was one of the best breakfast experience that I have had the pleasure of.
The room was lovely - peaceful, lovely view, loved the underfloor heating in the bathroom and Tim loved the tv in the bathroom - he couldn't believe his luck !
3.5
Restaurant staff were very friendly and informative.
Taster menu was interesting for me; not quite up to my wife's satisfaction.
Location of Fort Augustus was fine for access to Loch Ness, Isle of Skye and then down West Coast via Oban.
Will never use Booking.com again. Firstly, we thought we were negaged with hotel. We weren't!
Mis-information (e.g. breakfast not included) and I declined to pay £23 plus Service per head for breakfast.
Pricing between Booking.com and The Lovat all over the place. Sometimes one was cheaper; sometimes the other.
On arrival, the Spanish(?) receptionist didn't give us a particularly warm welcome, given the huge amount of money we were paying for 2 nights.
That there is no A La Carte option, only the two Taster Menus is an unwelcome restriction.
Repeated inaccurate information emails from Booking.com regarding the Taster Menu (3 course vs 5 courses).
Multiple and pointless emails from Booking.com even after we had checked out of the property.
We will:
a) Avoid school holidays when prices go sky high.
b) Ensure we book DIRECTLY with any property.
