The location of the hotel was great, right on the river. Our room had an outdoor bath that was fed by hot spring water, which was lovely.
The room was very small and the futon mats were the thinnest and least comfortable we experienced in Japan. The room and linens also smelled strongly of mothballs, which made the stay a lot less enjoyable.

It’s cozy and located few minutes walk to the train station/bus stops. It’s right next to the river and wish we stayed longer than a day to enjoy the patio where the onsen was with the view and relaxing sounds of the river. The staff are very accomodating. Hotel supplied us with yukata to wear and I enjoyed them and the look for pictures to document our stay.
Didn’t get to find something that we didn’t like as we only stayed for a night. 😅 Price is expensive but competitive for the area. Oh, most if not all surrounding restaurants only accept cash. Not the property’s fault but wish the town adapts to the modern way of paying services. I would have not mind if I didn’t have difficulty obtaining cash from the ATM machine. That was the bummer.

The location was perfectly close to the train station and right on the river. Lovely to listen to the sound of the river at night. The staff were amazing and friendly and funny even when there was a bit of a language barrier - they made it work and made sure we were comfortable. I could tell they had a lot of experience in hospitality.
I wish the open air onsen had better hours for
Men.

This is the third stay at Hakone, each hotel has different experiences. I love how this place has a personal house keeper. It was a wonderful surprise.
All dinner and breakfast are excellent. Hotels private onsen was great. Traditional room is a great experience accompanied with lovely meals.
The internet service was not great in the room.

very convenient location and comfortable environment. Very nice staff.
It will be appreciated if given a choice for the selection of dinner set / breakfast set. Because kids don't eat sashimi.

Location was amazing, an easy 1-2 minute walk to the shops and train station. We had a private onsen in the room and enjoyed the public onsen as well that we reserved. The front desk, housekeeping and breakfast staff were wonderful. The view from the room was beautiful although the sound of the rushing river was loud when using the onsen on the balcony. Fortunately they have thick windows that eliminate the sound when sleeping.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay!

Well located just a few mins walk from the train station.
Loved falling asleep to the sound of the river, which our room also looked out onto.
The breakfast and dinner here felt like eating at a fancy restaurant. I loved being able to eat authentic Japanese food I otherwise wouldn’t have known to seek out. Have an open mind to give every dish a try. We were absolutely stuffed after every meal.
The staff are so friendly and helpful.
We weren’t able to secure a room with an onsen, but there are private ones you can rent out for 50 mins at a time for a reasonable price (220 yen) which was perfect.
It’s a great base from which to have a day trip out to see Mt Fuji.
Such good value given the service and hospitality they provide - especially compared to what you’d get in a hotel in a big city which is mostly self service with minimal interaction.
Staying here was such a unique experience, highly recommend!!!!!!
It’s part of the experience - but our room didn’t have a bed (they roll out and prepare a mattress for you every night) nor your typical western chair/couch/lounge. Instead, embrace sitting and sleeping closer to the ground :)

Wonderful stay. This was our first experience in a ryokan and we felt comfortable and at ease the whole time. The onsen was very relaxing and the dinner was fantastic and allowed us to try a lot of different dishes. The rooms were very beautiful and sleeping in the fouton beds was surely a nice experience. Everything was fantastic!
The room staff didn't speak English, so it was difficult to communicate, but everyone was super nice and we could communicate with gestures.
It's more a ryokan style hotel rather than a traditional ryokan in terms of reception on arrival.

Lovely hotel in a wonderful location.
Small bathroom and we weren’t used to Tatami mat sleeping on the futons.

Wonderful experience if you want to stay in a traditional Ryokan! We were enthusiastic !! Everything was as it should be, in the most traditional Japanese style! The staff spoke English and it was so accommodating! As we were leaving early in the morning, and we couldn't enjoy breakfast, they provided us with Bento boxes for the train ! I cannot recommend this place more!! The little town is also cute, with shops around, just bear in mind they close early , so dont leave your shopping for the late afternoon. We didn't have dinner at the hotel and we regret it, as we struggled to find a place to eat because they were all full booked. Recommend to queue earlier in the afternoon. Convenient store also at walking distance, as the train station.
All perfect, thank you :)

The room itself was nice and equipped with everything we needed, the bath was definitely a plus. The staff was really nice and answered clearly all the questions we had. Dinner and breakfast were both really good !

The room was incredible- traditional tatami mats and decor, and with nice amenities (TV, tea kettle). We booked the dinner and the breakfast option with our room, and we were very pleased with the overall experience. The service of the staff was impeccable, and the food was elegantly served. We also made use of the public open-air baths, which were wonderful and sparkling clean.
While we really enjoyed the dinner and the breakfast, not everything served was a win for western palettes- that said, not a really problem as you're given plenty of options and it's fun to try new fare.

- Short walk from the train station, tucked away from the busy Main Street.
- Food was scrumptious and well prepared. The hotel staff that attended to us was very thoughtful despite speaking limited English.
- Beautiful walk along the canal behind the hotel.
- Onsen was comfortable, clean and stocked well with amenities. The public onsen had a indoor and outdoor section for use.
- Futon kept us warm and cosy through the cold winter night.

Fantastic facilities! There were many onsens to choose from and all were amazing. We also booked a private onsen and it was a breathtaking expereince. The view from our room of the stream just outside was just amazing. Our breakfast and dinner was served to our room which was quite convenient (the dinner especially was special). And on top of it all, the staff were very accomodating! Overall, a fantastic trip thanks to our stay at this Ryokan.
The breakfast was a little disappointing (not many varieties or options). Furthermore, I still can't justify paying the price we did just for one night. I think more than anything it is a luxury rather than a small pleasure, the kind of thing you experience only once so I doubt I will come back.

We paid a little more to get a private onsen bathtub I'm our room and it was well worth the money! It's situated outside but with 3.5 of the walls up and covering you. The last half wall looks out onto a mini river and forest. It was so beautiful and peaceful to sit it the bath and stare out. We went in the middle of December and once you get into the bath you don't feel cold at all! The person that waited on us was amazing. Very attentive and kind. Loved every minute of it and would have stayed another day if I could. The dinner and breakfast come with a lot of variety! It was so much food neither of us could finish the dinner. Although the dinner didn't match our personal tastes we could tell it was cooked extremely well! For the breakfast I loved everything!
Nothing! It was great!
