This experience exceeded my expectations! I could not find too much information about the resort when booking initially, but went with it. The exntire experience was absolutely wonderful. Check in was done in room, which was an extremely large and private room with private onsen. Both Japanese dinner and breakfast were exceptional, high quality, and quite private. The entire environment was serene and peaceful, perfect for our stay. We have stayed in other resorts in Hakone, and this one was our favorite. All the staff were extremely welcoming and helpful. The resort grounds were also lovely, with cafe area (free coffee & teas made fresh), and nice to walk around.
I'd recommend driving a car to visit!

The property is
Well designed and the provided amenities were great. The staff members were very accommodating, and we truly felt like we were taken care of from the start of the check in process to the end of our stay. Even when we wanted to change our initial elections for our breakfast, the staff accommodated. We highly recommend Hakone Retreat and would like to stay again in the future.

The setting of the villas in the middle of a forest was tranquil and a refreshing change as we had just come from Tokyo.
The two bedroom villa we stayed in was beautifully designed to be both stylish and welcoming. We particularly loved the private consent bath on the balcony.
The staff were all very helpful and polite and there were so many extra little touches such as free hot drinks in the cafe.
One of the highlights was our dinner at the formal Japanese restaurant. The food was so amazingly presented with seasonal ingredients. Our kids loved their childrens' meals which still included sashimi, miso and wagyu beef.
It was hard to get there on public transport. Would have been nice to be offered a transfer service.

Loved the onsen. Loved the Japanese dinner.
Wish there was a laundry facility.

It’s a beautiful retreat tucked in hills and abundant greenery! We love the daily traditional Japanese dinner and breakfast in our own private room! Service was wonderful! The room itself was spacious with an outdoor spa.We enjoyed sitting in the spa under the starry sky among the trees and wind. It’s very relaxing!

We stayed at a villa that was further away from the construction site (they are currently building new cabins/ villas), so we didn't experience any noise at all. And the hotel informed us about the construction that's underway at the time of booking as well as in several follow emails. The private Onsen experience is top-notch and very relaxing. Villas are providing expansive room for 2 adults. The place is extremely clean and well-maintained.
During our recent stay at the Villa, we experienced both conveniences and challenges that are worth noting. Firstly, the hotel enforces a strict check-in time of 3 PM and a check-out time of 11 AM. For travelers who prefer a more relaxed schedule, this is an important consideration.
The hotel is located about 30 minutes north of Yumato Station, accessible via public bus or taxi. Unfortunately, there were no clear instructions provided on how to navigate to the property, which led to some initial confusion. Future guests would benefit from detailed directions being included in the booking confirmation.
Communication posed a significant challenge during our stay. The staff’s limited proficiency in English made it difficult for us to check in smoothly, interact with restaurant personnel, and store our luggage at check-out. Additionally, finding information on how to explore the local area was a struggle, though we did enjoy the onsite Onsen, which became a highlight of our visit.
Dining options at the Villa cater primarily to fans of traditional Japanese cuisine, specifically kaiseki meals. If this isn't to your taste, options are limited both onsite and in the vicinity. Although we had read that in-room breakfast was possible, our request was declined—possibly due to a misunderstanding caused by the language barrier.
Overall, while the Villa offers a unique experience reflective of its locale, better communication and guest support could enhance the stay tremendously. This destination is ideal for those looking to immerse themselves in local culture and cuisine, and who are prepared for a rustic adventure rather than a conventional tourist experience.

Villa, private onsen, pick up and drop off service via car, very nice staff
Room was very hot. Staff found our requests to top sheet and some questions difficult to understand. They tried hard.
Not enough food options for breakfast.
It was very expensive. I expected more for the price but it was still lovely

As a cabin crew, I'm used to travel and go to different hôtels around the world 20 nights per months.. From 1 to 5 stars, so far this one is one of the best I went to.
Staff are respectful and kind, making you feel peaceful and at home. They immediately do the task when you ask so you don't have to wait to have the onsen at a higher temperature for exemple. In 1 min it's done and someone is coming. This is very appreciable.
They come to pick you up at the bus station.
You have a welcoming drink of your choice.
Place is amazing, in the forest. You really feel like a peaceful atmosphère.
There are everything you need in the room like dyson hairdryer, scrunchie, face cream and cleaning...
Plus Staff are so dedicated that pyjamas and shoes for outside and inside are also choose in your size. (Depending female and male). I like the detail-oriented and this hôtel is very good in it.
The appartement is comfy and cosy.
4 stars hôtel so far.
Depending on your plans for the day, only the bus is available near the hotel. So if you want to explore or go to different restaurants, it takes a little bit longer. But the bus does the job. It takes you to more major places to visit. However, if its to rest, it's ok.
Also the check out is at 11am.. and not 1min more. For occidental people who likes to take their time it's a little bit confusing when someone is knocking at your door to tell you its time. But I think it's just a question of a different culture and that Japanese are maybe more respectful of the rules in this side.

Incredibly beautiful accommodation, very relaxing and needed after a crazy few days in Tokyo!

Where do we even start? The villa was spacious and quiet, with everything we would need. If I had to nitpick, the wifi could be better, but as we were in the mountains and wanted to relax, It did not bother us much. The in-room onsen was fabulous. We used it every day. The morning coffee in the cafe. Great for a quiet morning with a book and a nice latte. The kaiseki in Ryotei Tawaraishi was sublime. Both experiences were very different but thoroughly enjoyable. We would book this again when we come back to Hakone.Four thumbs up!

A gorgeous wood architecture, country house wonderfully merged with a body & mind relieving onsen. The washoku breakfast, property amenities, and staff were first-rate. Cannot recommend this stay enough.

The choice of this hotel was a small accident, because the surrounding high-end hot spring hotel that was originally planned to stay for several days happened to have no rooms on Saturday, and I chose this hotel through search, but I did not expect to get an unexpected surprise. Japanese hot spring hotels have always been unique through a stable level of service, and the combination of hot springs, food, and scenery is one of the foundations. The most special feature of this hotel is a combination that retains the dining, scenery and hot springs elements of a traditional Japanese hot spring inn, but combines the style with the modern industrial design of the Nordic series, which can appeal to a wider audience, especially the younger group. At the same time, the co-existence of multi-storey houses and villa areas is adopted, retaining two options below one type, and the on-site café bar is very modern and stylish, and also harmoniously coexists with the surrounding scenery.

Amazing surroundings. Villa was super cute spacious with a private onsen and even a fireplace. Super comfy beds,
Bluetooth speakers, excellent food and incredible staff.
The only shortcoming is getting to and from the resort to some of the sights without a car- taxis are readily available however
