I have stayed in many shukubo in Koyasan but Souji-in is far the best shojin ryori in Koyasan. I love that the shukubo is enclosed, and not open to air and that has its own private toilet, so specially when it's cold (most of the year) you don't have to go out of the room

Very good located, close to the cemetery. Very friendly stuff , the onsen is very nice - the morning zeromony was in parts translated into English. They really were open minded and helpful. Parking was not charged extra.
Totally overpriced! The gried for money doesn’t fit to the Buddhismn idea. That was very disappointing for us.

What an amazing experience! The shrine is just beautiful. The room was very clean, large and has everything needed, including a small Japanese garden. The dinner and breakfast surprised us with the number of foods and the variety of tastes. We joined the morning ceremony that was such a unique experience. The shrine also has a big and beautiful Japanese garden that is very fun for a morning walk.
When we stayed there the shrine had some construction works, so the entrance was not as seen in the pictures but it absolutely had no influence on our great experience.

The staff were nice and most spoke English. The food was good.
It was expensive. The outside portico was being worked on, so it was covered, which detracted from the view of the temple and the garden.

Temple was beautiful. Food was delicious. Hosts were gracious.
Honestly, only the cost. It was prohibitively expensive, and while our stay was wonderful it was difficult to see how to justify the cost.

The temple experience and the ceremony where the monk took plenty of time to answer questions and talk about Buddhism.

Staying at this temple was a very special and memorable experience. The morning prayers are beautiful to observe, and we enjoyed a Q&A with a temple monk (with English translator). The meals were delicious. The grounds, rooms, and baths (onsen) are clean and combine traditional features (e.g. tatami mats) with modern basics.
It is expensive.

Koyasan is a nice location, the back garden was nice, public onsen was comfortable
The futon was very uncomfortable and only provided one small bean bag pillow. The dinner wasn’t very good, monks seemed somewhat annoyed at our presence. Sound travels through the paper thin walls, you can hear everything.

A beautiful space surrounds this amazing accommodation. it was all we thought it would be - and more.
Vegan dining was something new.for a couple of us but was lovely all the same.
Taking part in morning prayers was very special and it was a place of peace and tranquillity.
It is a remote location but if you are looking for peaceful then this is the place

Loved the experience of living at a temple in a traditional Japanese style room. Our room fit 4 adults comfortably with access to a toilet. Two futons could be organized in each room. The futons were comfortable. We used the public bath which was open from 3pm-10pm which worked well with our schedule as we did the night tour. They were accommodating with us having to do the night tour and served dinner to us earlier. Dinner and breakfast was tasty. I liked breakfast more! Both were filling. And it was great to try a different part of Japanese cuisine. Service was excellent and very accommodating to English speaking tourists.
The room smelled like tatami mats which sort of smells like oatmeal but it's quite faint and not noticeable overtime.

adorable staff, great onsen & the dinner was an experience apart. thank you kindly for the service & the wonderful stay.

Amazing food (especially for dinner but the breakfast was also very enjoyable), all vegan (vegetables and tofu many ways). Not being a fan of tofu I was slightly worried but loved every bite.
Very atmospheric throughout. Morning prayer at 6am.

Friendly, warm and comfortable. The dinner and breakfast ( included in the tariff) were excellent. Surprisingly we were able to have alcohol with our dinner which was lovely.
There wasn’t anything I didn’t like

the monastery was beautiful. it’s in a great location walking distance to the big monastery, the daimon gate for hiking and other town stuff. terrific dinner best vegetarian meal in Japan. comfortable rooms w an additional heater. close to bus station.
the staff didn’t know a ton of English. we did not know what was going on in the prayer session but it was beautiful. it was a pricey stay.

Everything. The rooms were comfortable, the service very good but the highlight was the exceptional gourmet diner and breakfast (vegetarian) prepared by the monks
There is a shared onsen (although not a hot spring one) but very convenient to get relaxed after a day walking in the snow
We attended the early morning prayers, that was also a quite interesting experience.
overall there is a special atmosphere in this place, it makes you feel good and mindful
Everything was perfect

Beautiful temple with welcoming and friendly monks. Food tasty and very well presented.
Good location. Clean. Hot bath relaxing and welcoming after the snow outside. It was a priviledge to attend the morning prayer ritual.
All good

Beautiful temple, words cannot properly express the experience. Truly a mystical feeling being there, staff was very helpful and kind. The morning meditation was excellent, food was high quality, and the room was very nice and traditional. Location is also very convenient right next to two large temple complexes. We especially enjoyed being able to walk right across the street to the Danjō-garan complex which is lit up at night and can be explored for free at any time (small fee to enter the large temples during the day.)
Nothing.

The staff were lovely, the food was excellent, the room was clean and the morning prayers were a very interesting experience.
It was rather cold in winter. However, the futon was very warm at night which made up for it.

Modern facilities and nice reception.Food was quite good but a little rich .
Inflexible meal times and early Curfew at 9pm. Monks serving us did not seem friendly and got the impression they were being forced to serve out of obligation . junior monks serving dinner and breakfast which caused me to question whole concept of luxury accom in a buddhist temple -! Did not feel comfortable being there after some reflection eg 5 course meals when they are probably fed far less !srelivous service was ok but not as overwhelming as I had seen in other reviews .
