Mom's first words as we walked up, no joke.
First, the positives: Clean floors/sinks/tubs, great view, interesting history of where the property came from, back patio is lovely to hang out on and great access to the lake. Oh- and the beds were comfortable, just don't unzip the pillow covers (four thick) when you strip the linens... it was disgusting.
Downside: after a long day of traveling, basic necessities were not provided. Example: no coffee or shampoo. Each shower had one tiny Motel-8-style soap round and nothing else. The house, while expected to be rustic and cabin-like, has vastly more items and nicknacks packed into every open spot. The photos show antique decor but not to the level that it currently is at, including the old preserved ham hanging in the kitchen. Beware of touching that oily ham bag! Another nice touch are the thrashed bar-b-que tools hanging as decor on the patio, dripping grease and food residue on the ground. Aprons hung as window curtains could be fun, but these were stained and dirty. Many spices are expired.
In reality, we have friends who own family cabins like this. While it's a treat to be invited to stay at a friend's old family heirloom-filled cabin, it's not the same when you are paying premium pricing on a vacation. The bottom line is, this is obviously a treasured family cabin likely full of ongoing memories for the family who owns it, but it's not to the basic standard of a vacation rental. Absolutely better choices in the area.

We had 3 generations on this trip ages 19 to mid 80s. Everyone had a fantastic time. Rented a boat and was able to pull it right up to the dock. Cook of the family loved the stove! My 6 foot son even slept in the loft. The in laws took lots of wonderful walks around the property. Front yard was perfect for a family corn hole competition. Personally i loved the porch bed! Several nights of playing games as a family and incredible laughs. This cabin took you back in time yes was extremely comfortable and had enough modern touches to make all ages comfortable. The only thing i would recommend is updating the listing here.

We had a wonderful time at this property, it is a very unique property with a lot of history and charm that we really enjoyed. There was plenty of privacy with many wonderful areas to explore. The lake access is easy with a nice dock which easily accommodated our jet skis.
Tara was very responsive to my questions, and I would definitely recommend this property for anyone looking to have a great time at Douglas Lake.

This place has a special place in our hearts; it was our 3rd stay here. We've made so many family memories in the cabin: watching movies, playing games, eating together; and outside: on the deck, in the hot tub, on the lake, in the gorgeous yard. There are many wonderful cabins in the Smokies but none as homey and unique as this one made from log cabins. We will be back, Lord willing!

Just what our family needed for a peaceful stay. My teenager and college student enjoyed themselves as well. Beautiful cabin with treasures around every corner. Loved the serene setting, very peaceful.

We had a wonderful stay. Everything was very relaxing and loved by all. Appreciate that it was stocked with everything we needed! We all felt right at home and enjoyed the love that was definately shown in preparing this vacation rental.
If anyone needed a quiet spot you could find several private cozy places. My only comment would be that the houskkeeping completely clean and remove items out of the refrigerator! I was not happy when we opened the door to put our food in it. Otherwise, we will definitely come back. Thank you for caring about your renters opinions.

Our stay was absolutely perfect and we loved the cabin so much!! It is truly beautiful and the history of it was so interesting to hear . Tara, our host was there to greet us when we arrived and gave us a tour of the property . She was so kind and made us feel very welcome and at home . We enjoyed the lake , went fishing, kayaking, looked for arrowheads and enjoyed the hot tub and the gorgeous scenery. Loved the outdoor kitchen and grill area . Covered porch was great when it rained, so we could stay outside. Beds were super comfortable and the cabin has a layout that worked extremely well for our party of 9. Everyone had plenty of room and privacy. We had a small mishap with running out of propane and Tara went above and beyond to make it right for us!! Definitely will be back to visit again!

This was our third stay at the cabin. We have enjoyed each visit. Everything we need was provided and the location on the lake is wonderful. Hope to return.

We were thrilled to stay on a lake for 3 weeks this summer due to the horrible heat throughout the United States. Douglas Lake is clean and quiet and the dock right at the bottom of the 5 acre property is large enough to sit and enjoy the afternoon and swim.
The house is wonderful - so many memories have been saved and displayed throughout the house - quirky and fun throughout with a wonderful front porch, back porch, covered porch, outdoor shower, and hot tub. Super quiet as it is about 15 minutes from the main drag in Sevierville.
Tons to do with kids in the Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg area (it was our first time).
Tara (owner) was super helpful before and during the visit. Highly recommend!

Totally Relaxing
This place was everything it promised it would be. I had viewed the Pioneer Cabin for almost a year and booked six months out from our recent trip May 28th - June 3rd. It is an authentic cabin, full of history. Everything was clean, the floating deck was our favorite hang out as well as the large Jacuzzi. While we had lots of outings, this place is magical and so relaxing. Our crew ranged from 4 years to 55 and we all loved it! I highly recommend it!!

Unique and Authentic Cabin stay
My brother and I and our families and parents stayed a long weekend to celebrate my mom’s birthday. It’s not your typical cabin rental, it’s actually 2 very old, authentic cabins put together. Decor was authentic and matched the cozy cabin feel. It was great for relaxing and spending time together. We were able to easily run into town to grab food at a restaurant or the grocery store. It was also close to activities for the kids. The kitchen was stocked with all the things needed to prepare meals. The kids absolutely loved the upstairs bedroom nook! As stated the lake is down in the winter so I would also love to come back in the summer or spring to see that view as well. I would definitely recommend this place, especially if you ate looking for something outside of a cookie cutter cabin rental.

We had a fantastic time at the cabin
This is such a unique place. We loved the history, all of the antiques, and the paths outside. We were always finding something new and things that brought back childhood memories.
In many ways it was like stepping back in time, but we had all of the luxuries of a modern cabin. There were so many different areas to stop and relax and unwind, lots of room to explore and for the kids to play. It truly provided something for everyone no matter their age.
Will love bringing my family back again.

Perfect and Unique!
We had a perfect five nights, six day stay at this uniquely decorated and thoughtfully curated cabin. This was our fourth time visiting Douglas Lake, and the Pioneer Trading Post is our favorite cabin/rental so far. The cabin had everything we needed and is very well stocked. So much thought has gone into this place! We had an initial HVAC problem, but the owner arranged a repair quickly and was so helpful and personable. The sleeping porch was a hit, as was the outdoor table on the deck where we ate most meals. The lake is beautiful, but we also enjoyed the landscaping and walking the trail on the property. Thank you for a fabulous time.

Great week at the cabin. Everyone enjoyed themselves, despite the being one of the hottest weeks ever. It was great swimming in the lake. We didn't do to good fishing though. Very nice cabin.

The Pioneer Trading Post
This place was absolutely perfect. The kids loved exploring the property as well as fishing and having room to run and play. It was very peaceful and good for the soul. The owner made sure everything was cleaned well and sanitized for us and took extra precaution due to the virus outbreak. She was very kind and thoughtful. I couldn't ask for a better experience for my family or myself. I would love to come back and stay again.

We found the Pioneer Trading Post to be very private but easy to access from town. We were not able to spend time enjoying the lake, but it looked very inviting. This property is ideal for large family gatherings.
