The room was fantastic and very clean. We enjoyed the view from the 8th floor and experiencing the sunset every evening was an amazing feeling. Breakfast was divine, the choices of dishes was spot on and we had a different cuisine each day. Sri Lankan hoppers and fish curry was my favorite.
I want to take this opportunity to say massive thank you 2 staff. Nishadi Gunawardena who checked on us everyday to make sure we were happy. Honestly we were more than happy!
Also Asanka the Bar manager near the lobby, he was exceptional in his service. we enjoyed going to the bar every evening cos of him before dinner.

We loved our stay. The view was divine (we were on the 9th floor). The room was spacious. The bed was so comfortable. The service and the little details were incredible. We would definitely stay again.
The downsides were the cost of the spa and food. We each had a massage at 50% off which was "normal" international prices, would never have paid the full price. The food was so expensive compared to the rest of Sri Lanka so would recommend eating outside the hotel, there are some really nice cafes nearby.

Everything has been absolutely outstanding. The breakfast selection is exceptional, offering a wide variety of high-quality options that cater to all tastes. The dinner service has been equally impressive, with dishes that are not only beautifully presented but also delicious and thoughtfully prepared. As for the room, it is both spacious and impeccably maintained, providing a perfect balance of comfort and elegance.
We would like to give special recognition to Supun Jayawardana for his outstanding attention to detail and professionalism, which significantly enhanced our experience. Additionally, we extend our sincere gratitude to all the staff, from the front-end team to housekeeping and dining staff, who have worked tirelessly to ensure every aspect of our stay was perfect. Fijne kamers met mooi uitzicht, uitgebreid en goed ontbijt en heel vriendelijk personeel
Het strand waar het hotel aan ligt is niet mooi en de zee ligt helemaal vol met mensen die surfles krijgen 🙂. Voor 8 uur s ochtends zijn alle ligbedden bij het zwembad al ‘gereserveerd’ door hotelgasten die vervolgens gaan ontbijten of anders, waardoor er soms urenlang alleen maar lege bedjes met handdoeken te zien zijn. Kamers zoals gezegd fijn, maar prijs/kwaliteit verhouding niet goed: voor deze prijs kun je op (veel) mooiere plekken zitten.

Excellent staff
As per our package we were entitled to 20 % on F&B. However, we found that we had to request the discount each time and outlets tried to palm off higher bills on us. At each outlet we were also told different discounts applied- 15 %, 20 %, 50 %. We felt cheated by this inconsistency which is not expected from Marriott. The GM refused to meet us as well

The staff were incredibly accomodating to our party. We had a small complication were booking.com was showing double rooms as only 1pax. We had called and confirmed before arriving/booking to which hotel said we were able to book for 3 people. This information was relayed to our booking and so when we were checking in, the staff were able accomodate us anyways.
It was a bit strange that staff would ask if everything is okay and then ask for your room number. This was only a minor thing which made us feel a little watched, but they were super friendly.

We stayed two nights at the Marriott expecting a wonderful experience, representative of a 4-5 star hotel. Unfortunately, we were heavily disappointed.
1. At arrival: When we arrived at the hotel, we were directed to reception and were told to pay upfront which we thought was very unusual. We’ve never experienced this type of payment method before, typically one just pays at the end after they’ve had the chance to experience the hotel. We were then rushed through the hotel facilities and ushered to our room before we had a chance to ask any questions…. Not a great start.
2. Service: During breakfast and dinner we were unable to enjoy our meals in peace; every two minutes we were interrupted by staff who seemed to be asking the same questions rehearsed from a script. Such questions were “Are you finished?”, “Anything else?”, “How is the food?”, “How is your day so far?”, We fully appreciate that attentiveness is nice to have, but this was serious overkill. At one point a member of staff had watched what my partner was looking at on her phone and proceeded to make a comment about it…very unsettling, are we not allowed any privacy on holiday? One could compare their service to the crows found near the outdoor pool, circling your food incessantly whilst you repeatedly try to swat them away. We also thought this was partly due to the large number of staff patrolling the canteen area with little to do. I counted over 15 waiters/waitresses one morning at the breakfast canteen…for an area that has roughly 20 tables inside this is very excessive.
3. Poolside area: The chairs were grimy and several had bird poo or other forms of dirt on them. One even had old gum on it which made me shudder in disbelief. The pool itself was dirty and the water had a funny smell, as if someone had dropped a few red bulls in it.
4. Price: Another unsettling aspect of the hotel is the fact that they advertise everything in USD but then bill everything in Sri Lankan Rupees.

Great staff! They are doing everything to make your stay comfortable and memorable. Always happy and with a smile! Special thank you to restaurant employees. Delicious food and awesome service. The chefs introduced us to delicious local dishes. Special hi and thanks to an Indian chef who used to make for us delicious ‘doosa’ that we miss a lot and thank you so much for the yummy ‘travellers’!!!
It’s 2023 and I think it is a crime for a 5 star resort not to have a proper coffee machine in the room.
The cocktail list was very limited. No Aperol! Very limited champagne/sparkling wine list.
They do offer yoga classes but that’s about it. It would be nice to introduce more engaging activities during the day say like volleyball, aqua aerobics, maybe some cooking classes etc.

We are getting kicked out at 3pm, even though it says late check out. We didn’t check in early. The $15 voucher is meaningless because the treatments are only for 60 minutes plus (100USD). Late check out should be 5-6pm. This is all mis-selling. Very upset. Went to sleep at 3am and “manager” woke us up at 9.30am with a phonecall, which he thinks is OK. No apology. Not a good nights sleep, how can this be a 5 star Marriot?

There isn’t a proper fridge in the rooms. It is a ‘cooler’ which doesn’t keep drinks very cool…
There is tea and coffee facilities in the room, but only given powdered milk. I asked for milk to be sent up so I could make a cup of tea and was told it would cost me $7, which i thought was outrageous. As a result, I didn’t have tea in my room.
Exit on ground floor to pool etc smelled of mould. Not pleasant.

The property, was perfectly located, where you had the beach just a few meters away from your rooms. The food here is amazing, and you can definitely notice that they pay attention to quality. The staff are super friendly, and honestly I haven’t come across attentive staff like this in a while. Weldone
There were areas where you had some bad odor like the Ground floor table tennis area. And the waterfall area. Ventilation on the corridor of each floor is quite poor and stuffy. These were the only things I could fault honestly.

I was ignored by two staff members whilst waiting to be served at the front desk. I’m traveling by myself and the staff preferred to serve a couple before me even tho I’d been waiting there longer. I don’t expect to be treated like this in a 5 star property.

Everything. We had an amazing vacation. The best was the stunning view over the beach from our balcony. The room was very big, loved the rainfall shower. The breakfast selection was the biggest we have ever seen and every single dish was delicious. Dinners were over the top too. We very much enjoyed having the surf spot right in front of the hotel.
