Great stay at camp JOAL. We used the canoes to paddle out to lake clear, where there's a nice swimming spot right at the entry of the lake. The bike trail to Saranac Lake and beyond to Lake Placid just opened, it's fantastic, you can hop on the trail right from the house and bike to Saranac Lake (for ice cream!). So bring your bikes! Great hikes in the vicinity, we did 3 mountains. We paddled the seven carries, shout-out to MAC Canoe Livery less than half mile from the house. What a great vacation place!

This home is in a great location for exploring the Saranac lakes and high peaks areas. The home is very comfortable and very well equipped for a relaxing family vacation. Having canoes and kayaks available is especially nice. We enjoy the easy access to either Lake Clear or the Mill Pond. We have now stayed here three different times. Hopefully that speaks for itself -- we really like this home!

Beautiful spot on Lake Clear Outlet. The 20 month old loved the child’s rocker & the older kids participated in kayak races. We all had a lovely time.

This was our second time staying at this property. We love the quiet location, the paddling and fishing on the outlet, and the beautiful house. Our family enjoyed the fire pit and the large screened porch. The house is very clean and well-stocked with anything you might need. The towns of Tupper Lake and Saranac Lake are nearby and we went into both for dinner and to shop. We'll probably book again as we like it so much.

Thank you to Camp JoAl for having us during our stay!! The camp was absolutely beautiful and well stocked with everything we needed. The furniture was so nice and the screened in porch was the perfect place to enjoy the evenings. The location is wonderful - a short kayak ride takes you to a small beach opening on Lake Clear. You are very close to Saranac Lake (which our family preferred over Lake Placid because of the better restaurant scene). But still extremely secluded and peaceful. The layout of the house is perfect and bedrooms are separated so no one felt on top of one another. We couldn’t have asked for a better experience!!

The setting is private and peaceful. The outlet is calm and ideal for paddling and fishing. We loved relaxing on the large, enclosed porch and having campfires at night.

This is a terrific property in my family's favorite part of the Adirondacks. This was our second time staying in the house, and we enjoyed it every bit as much this year as we did last year.

This was such a great cabin we could not think of much to improve on. In fact this might be the cabin we now compare others to! There was lots of space (so many beds to choose from and spread out), ultimate privacy from other camps, everything we could possibly need to cook, play and just enjoy time together. Hiked and explored by day, paddled (loved not having to rent small craft or bring our own) to the sand bar on Lake Clear and swam in the evening, fire pit memories (nicely seasoned wood), wonderful screen porch (can not say enough) best place ever to sleep, owner and caregivers took care of needs that arose due to unforeseen circumstances from weather without missing a beat. Beds were super comfortable, lots of box fans for warm days, ample parking was also a plus. Visited Lake Clear Beach, The Wild, Whiteface, Saranac Lake and several Mt and Lake/Pond Trails without spending alot of travel time to do it. Great Location! We would love to come back. This is a true gem!

The cottage, lakes, and sports equipment were all exactly as pictured/described. We stayed one week and saw very few people on the water. My husband and son fished and caught northern pike, perch, and large mouth bass. We saw lots of turtles, including a monster snapping turtle, muskrat, deer, a family of wild turkeys, lots of hummingbirds, kingfisher, and loons. The scenery while on the water is gorgeous! The house has everything you need for cooking and lots of games and books. We found the WiFi to be very reliable, which was a surprise since the house feels so remote. We made a few trips to explore the area. We enjoyed the Fish Hatchery; Paul Smith's VIC; the Wild Center; and seeing a movie, having dinner at Well Dressed Food, and desert at Skyline Ice Cream in Tupper Lake. JoAnne's cottage is a great place to find peace on the water!

The home was spectacular and very well equipped for our group of four. We spend most of our time on the water and hanging out on the enormous screened in porch! Canoeing and kayaking are the best here, with access on a very shallow passage to Clear lake and back into the flowage by the house. It was enormously private and very clean.

The owner made sure that the place was stocked with everything we needed. It's a located in a private and beautiful area near Lake Clear. Beside the terrible weather, my only complaint is with the absolutely terrible water pressure. Seriously, the worst pressure you can imagine for showers or rinsing off dishes.

This was the site fir this year’s family reunion. Year 8! This location offered us privacy yet fabulous accessibility to all things Adirondack! With the outlet in our frontyard, we paddled in each direction each day. There was great fishing, daily heron sightings and trips to the State beach. Yes, we paddled a couple of times to the sandbar! Oh and 3 trips to Donnelly’s for their flavor of the day, yum!
Weather cooperated (tho’ we were looking forward to rain & games on the amazing screened porch.
Fabulous week, totally relaxing!

Second time is a charm!
This is our second time staying at this property, this time for two weeks because we liked it so much last year! One of the things we love about the house is it is secluded but yet conveniently located to many hiking trails. The house is fully stocked and the screened in back porch is huge. We loved listening to the loons in the evening.
Kayaking on the lake was so peaceful! A really special place.

Perfect house for canoeing
The house was just what we wanted.
It was well equipped, cozy, wooded, private and with canoe access.
We loved spending time outdoors grilling and at the fire pit.
Beds were comfortable even the one in the screened in porch.
We would love to return soon.

Fabulous Lake House
We had a lovely visit at this beautiful lake house. The house is even better than the pictures. It is decorated tastefully in true Adirondack style and was lovely. We loved the very large screened-in porch and ate most of our meals out there as well as relaxed on the very comfy furniture. We never got around to having a fire but they had a very inviting fire pit space with plenty of chairs for a large group to sit around. Our favorite activity was kayaking and canoeing and fishing.
We went out several times each day either to Mill Pond( smaller) or Lake Clear ( larger) both equally beautiful places to explore. We saw and heard loons on Lake Clear each time we visited! The coolest thing we did was to load up the canoe with happy hour drinks and snacks and chairs and went to a tiny beach that is just to the right as you enter Lake Clear from the outlet. There is a sand bar there so you have to go out into the lake a bit and go around to the other side of the beach and come back in so as not to beach the canoe on the sandbar. It was not warm enough to go swimming but would have been a fun place to wade and swim. There is also a swimming beach at the top of Lake Clear that you can get to from Rt 30. It was not marked as the sign must have fallen down but it is an NYS beach and is quite beautiful and large. A must-visit place if you like to hike is the Paul Smiths VIC land about 10 minutes away. The hiking trails are beautiful and well marked and the views are amazing. You can get a map in the Interpretive Center. We had the best vacation at Joal Camp and can't wait to return!

Amazing!
We had a wonderful time! Perfect location and lots of privacy! The canoes, paddle board, kayaks and pedal board enabled us to all be on the water together. Loved the screened in porch. Hope to be back next summer!

Awesome Vacation
We stayed at this camp in late June. It was fabulous. The house is very comfortable, clean and supplied including spices, beach towels and a great collection of good books. The open floor plan is welcoming and the large screened in porch is where we spent much of our time. It is like an outdoor living room with a collection of fun bird print pillows on the comfortable sofa and chairs. We enjoyed morning coffee watching the birds and looking at the trees and water. We ate dinner and played several games of monopoly at the large table. You really feel like you are outside. We really enjoyed using the kayak and canoe to paddle to the beach on Lake Clear. The water and sandy bottom is refreshing and beautiful. We drove around to another beach on the other side of the lake several times. It is also close to Paul Smith conservation center which we went hiking on their lovely trails several time. Enjoyed being in the quiet but near amenities in Saranac Lake. A highly recommended rental.

Home away from home
Camp Joal is a beautiful vacation home with all of the amenities and comforts of home. The house and linens were immaculate. There is enough space to separate and retreat from the group and enough space for all to gather together to eat or socialize. The kitchen has everything you need to prepare a gourmet meal (we made prime rib one night). It was so handy to have a washer and dryer right there as well. The caregiver lives down the road and was very helpful with any questions we had. There are kayaks and canoes to go out on the water which is beautiful. You can not really swim right there at the property but there is a lovely beach 8 minutes away with sand and sun or shade to choose lounging around in. 8 minutes in the other direction is Upper Saranac Lake which has a fantastic boat launch that we brought our Jetboat to several times and still didn't see the whole thing! We had a rainy forecast for the week but we made the most of every day. There is a seasonal greatroom that is screened in which was beautiful to sit out in when the rain did come. It would be hard not to enjoy your stay here!

Peaceful Get Away
This was is an amazing property!! It’s so serene and peaceful; no neighbors nearby or across the lake. We took many kayak rides around the lake which provided beautiful mountain views. The house was immaculate when we arrived and fully stocked!! We spent most of our time in the beautiful, huge screened in porch reading and relaxing. Hiking at the VIK, Moose Pond, Black Pond and Baker Mountain was beautiful. We loved it here and have already booked two weeks for next year!! Thank you JoAnn for a lovely visit.

Fantastic stay!
We could not have been more pleased with our stay. The house and backyard are simply beautiful. It was so nice and easy to be able to use the kayaks, canoes and paddleboard on the inlet and go out to the lake. We loved waking up and viewing the lake right outside the back. The house was really comfortable for us - a couple and our two daughters in their twenties. Joanne was perfectly lovely to communicate with and resolved whatever question we had both before and after arrival. There was so much varied hiking in the area and we had plenty to do even with many things not open during Covid. It was a perfect kind of vacation for this time period as we didn't have to interact with many people. We swam at the nearby beach and loved canoeing to another spot on the lake to take a dip. We even loved the day it poured all day and night during a hurricane as it was lovely to read all day in the large screened porch under blankets. The kids enjoyed the natural beauty and we played games every night at the dining room table. The kitchen was easy to use and well stocked so we ate in nearly every night. I'd love to come back and stay longer!

The house was more than we expected. We appreciated all of the outdoor water equipment. The kitchen was fully stocked and clean. Bedrooms were comfortable and beds were abundant. The towels and linens readily available. The first impression upon entering the house is that a great deal of time was spent cleaning. We would definitely be interested in renting the property again.

Really nice
If you value privacy and quiet with a great base camp to explore all the area waterways (and other sights), this is the place. The big! screen room was comfortable and a nice place to relax. I’m sure when the construction work on the front of the house is finished it will add even more to the place. I recommend it.

Fantastic, homey getaway
This was the perfect location for a family getaway. It provides all the comforts and amenities in a secluded yet accessible setting. The porch is amazing (and voted "best nap location" by the entire family). The listing and pictures don't do the decor and comfort justice (but please don't book when we want to go again!). Tremendous value for money - you can tell Joanne and family love the place and it is very special that they share it with others.

Great family retreat
Wow! This was the perfect spot for our family to reconnect. The spacious porch, large dinning table and lake access made this a "stay and play" location. The water was surprisingly warm for the area and made swimming everyday a treat. Thank you! We felt like we were on our own private Oasis.

Lovely getaway!
This cabin is nicely furnished (a comfortable and large screened in porch make peaceful relaxing possible without bugs), beds are good and the kitchen is very well appointed. The grounds include a fire pit and large lean to for those who are looking for a rustic experience. Boats (kayaks and canoes) are available. Location is somewhat remote, but that is actually a plus for those in search of escape. Good WiFi and cable available. The owner is friendly and available for help if needed. Would stay here again!

Adirondack Vacation
This is wonderful property rights off of Clear Lake—good location, well-appointed, and family friendly. The property owner was very attentive, calling after check-in to make sure everything was going well. The screened in porch is especially nice, and provided a great space to enjoy the outdoors and spend family time.

Clean and well stocked
We stayed 8 days at Joal. JoAnne is wonderful and was very helpful throughout the process. The house is very clean and the pics are exactly the way it looks. Everything was perfect with the house and location. The only complaint that we had was there neighbors the Norton’s. They were a little to intrusive. Upon arrival I took my ATV off my trailer and rode it down the dirt road and came back to the house. I was on it for all of 3 mins. I went back inside to help my wife unpack and 30 seconds after I came in a strange man walked right into the house yelling hello. Totally Unacceptable! He scared my wife and made us both a little uneasy. He very aggressively told me not to ride on his property and not to mess up his road which is the road that leads to the house. I turned around in an open field where the power lines ran. I am still not positive if he owns that land where the power lines are but he might. I let it go because I could of been wrong about the property lines. We requested extreme privacy and were told we wouldn’t be bothered unless we engaged with the neighbors first. After that confrontation my wife was nervous to be alone in the house without me. I sometimes go out on our boat fishing alone and she stays back. He kind of ruined the whole mood that we wanted there. So we tried to move forward and forget about it but that couldn't happen! We were on our way back from breakfast one morning. We got out of the car and were shocked to hear very loud rap music. We had no idea where it was coming from so I walked to the dock to find it coming from the neighbors house the Norton’s. The same man who walked into our kitchen. The music went on for a long time. We decided we couldn’t take it anymore so we got ready to leave the house for the day. My wife just got out of the showers and was ironing her clothes in a shirt and her underwear next thing we know the back door opens and another strange man walks into the house. My wife got very scared and ran into the bedroom. This man had a beer in his hand tattoos all over and stunk of alcohol. It was the Norton’s son Jason. The son of the first man. After several mins of me being cold to him he left. He came to introduce himself. I did not like this at all. What if my wife was alone in the house. He also woke us up at 950am one morning to collect our garbage. We love the house but not the neighbors. We recommend this house if you don’t mind nosy neighbors. The house has everything u need!

Utterly beautiful ,surrounded by woods and the water access was brillant.
My family and I were up for a week, we were so happy with the privacy, the house was so comfortable it felt like we were home. The canoes and kayaks were great and tons of life jackets in all sizes were available. We had wonderful fires every night and the wood supply was plentiful. Beautiful screened porch as well, we sat there every day.We had such a relaxing week , we would love to return.

Wonderful home in a wooded beautiful location.
Our family of five found Camp JOAL To be a perfect getaway. The house is set in the woods, very private, yet a close drive to Saranac Lake and other Adirondack towns. The home was very clean and well equipped with everything a family should need. The large screened in porch was amazing for family time. We enjoyed sitting in the Adirondack chairs by the large fire pit as well. All fire wood provided!! Our favorite memories were listening to the Loons by the water on the private dock and kayaking into Lake Clear. Thank you for sharing your home JoAnne and Alan. Anyone who stays on your lovely property will have found a new home away from home!!!

Wonderful
This is simply a wonderful place if you are looking to experience the Adirondacks. The house was wonderful for me, my wife and 2 young boys. The place is all updated and very clean. The porch is amazing and ideal for family meals and game nights. We fished everyday and caught something every time we went out (be ready for pike if fishing lures). The location is great for visits to Saranac Lake, Lake Placid and Tupper Lake. Lake Clear had a nice public beach that we canoed to one day (takes about an hour). Overall, I can’t say enough good things. Clearly, the cottage is designed for family fun and it did not disappoint. Thanks!

Wonderful stay at the outlet.
We had a wonderful week visiting with our adult children at Lake Clear. The cabin is on the outlet a short paddle from Lake clear. We swam every day at the beach near where the out let enters the lake. The cabin is close proximity to some great hiking. My husband and I hiked haystack while the kids went and did a few high peaks. We also hiked little Baker Mt. in Saranac lake. There is also some amazing paddling near by. We enjoyed the paddle from church pond to Osgood pond through the canal. Another day we paddled on saint Regis to bog pond and then to bear pond. The portages were short and there are loads of pitcher plants and sundews to see.
There is so much to do and see near by! The cabin has a well equipped kitchen, and a wonderful screened porch. The bed rooms are comfortable and every thing was beautifully clean. There is a really great fire pit outside for evening camp fires. We brought our own boats but had to try the SUP. the camp also provided a canoe and 2 kayaks and a paddle boat. I would recommend this spot its out of the way but near by so much!

Peaceful and Well Situated
My husband and I spent a week at this lovely home/cottage in the woods. It was peaceful, serene, the fishing was terrific, and the birding was even better. The cottage was very clean, welcoming, and well outfitted for outdoor fun and lovely evenings on the back porch. We highly recommend the property if you seek solitude, natural beauty and the outdoors, but enjoy the comforts of home.
The property is well located/situated to nearby town of Saranac, and excellent hiking options and opportunites. It is also convenient to the "VIC" at Paul Smith College, which provides ample opportunities to explore the varied ecosystems that make up the Adirondack region. We highly recommend any and all of the hiking at the VIC.
A truly peaceful and rewarding get-away. Enjoy! We did!
