Brilliant cottage. Stay again definitely.
Spotless.
Central position and just by the sea.
Owners kindly left a welcome gift of delicious chocolate biscuits and a bottle of red wine!!

The cottage was very quirky but cosy and comfortable. The accommodation was well equipped with a welcome bottle of wine , tea , coffee , milk and biscuits supplied.
I thought this a lovely touch.
Would highly recommend this place to stay.
I will definitely be returning.

Excellent location and beautifully decorated cottage. Two Smart TVs were a welcome addition which most cottages don't have. A welcome pack was much appreciated together with the comprehensive summary of things to see and do within the local area.

Lovely cottage, the lounge, well laid out with two nice comfortable sofa's , coffee tables ,and good dining table ,this was a lovely room to come back to when we had been out ,so relaxing . spacious kitchen well equipped all we needed..
Upstairs bedroom and bathroom all laid out nicely, great views of the sea., Being over 80 we did find the top of the stairs abit tricky but just had to take extra care ., We did enjoy our relaxing stay .

We had a really enjoyable stay in Scrimshaw Cottage. Very comfortable furniture and beds and all very well furnished. The kitchen was modern and very well equipped.
The situation was brilliant, being only a few yards from the sea wall, pubs/restaurants and the main shopping streets. Thank you.

As usual fab holiday in Sherringham & stay in Scrimshaw Cottage - our 4th in this property. The cottage is well positioned for the beach, shops, cafes & pubs and is a great find - good value & really comfy
Unfortunately this will be our last stay in this cottage - the change over day has changed to a Friday & this is totally unsuitable, meaning an extra day of leave as unable to get to Sherringham after work. A real shame as we love this little cottage.

The cottage was perfect for the two of us. It was well equipped and furnished to a high standard. It was warm and welcoming and in an ideal location for all amenities. We enjoyed our stay and would go again and recommend it to others.

Beautiful cottage and ideal location.
Only slight downside are the steep stairs but they were mentioned in the advertisement.

This is our third visit to Scrimshaw Cottage, it is fast becoming our go to place for a few days away. I can't recommend it highly enough, it's spotlessly clean, nicely furnished, a super bathroom and well equipped kitchen. Apart from being right next to the sea, it's handy for the shops, eateries and walks along the promenade.

We chose Scrimshaw Cottage for it's location , beautiful sea views . Perfect for easy access to local pubs, shops etc

Brilliant Cottage
Scrimshaw cottage was an ideal base for a weeks holiday. It's clean, has a very large comfy bed and sofas. Very well equipped throughout. Also very good heating and wi-fi. We were very impressed and will almost certainly return. Thanks!!

Wanted somewhere close to the sea and this cottage was about as near as you could wish for. Easy key pick up. Clean and comfortable. As with many cottages of this type, stairs were steep and windy, with a spacious bathroom upstairs next to the bedroom. A corner bath with shower attachment, but no shower cubicle. Huge bed with lots of storage and an additional TV. Overall impression was very good. Have already booked again for next year.

A perfect holiday
We had a lovely stay at Scrimshaw Cottage, very clean, well equipped and ideal situation making it the perfect holiday and the sun shone all week, could not ask for more.

A lovely seaside cottage . A handrail on the right on the stairs would be helpful.
an Electrical appliance broke down and was replaced within an hour or two. Also an item in the bathroom was quickly replaced at the same time.
I did find the bathroom cold, but that might have been due to the cold August weather.
The bed was very comfortable, and the ability to see the sea from it an added an extra bonus !

Fantastic location
Lovely clean, comfortable and well equipped cottage just a stones through from the sea and the High Street with plenty of shops, pubs and restaurants. This was our second stay here and it didn't disappoint, we did manage to get a week with glorious weather which was a bonus. The only thing that lets it down for us is that we are used to a shower and whilst there is a lovely bath it only has a hand held shower.

Good location, cottage ideal for 2 people and of a reasonable standard. Only issue is parking which can be a problem at busy times and you have to pay, it’s cheaper to buy a weekly pass. The Crown pub can get a bit rowdy as they have outdoor music twice a week but their are lots of choices of pubs and restaurants within walking distance.

Lovely spot, great sea views
Lovely cottage, well situated and full of character. Plenty of shops and entertainment in easy reach.

Extremely lovely and thought out cottage. Would have been nice to have the sun!
Lovely holiday in this warm cottage. Will certainly stay again but with sunshine this time! Be nice to get free parking as my husband is disabled.

The perfect spot
We wanted a base near to shops and amenities, but also from where we could travel to the Broads and other attractions. Scrimshaw Cottage is within yards of the beach, which views of the sea from the its windows. Everything in the cottage was excellent, it was spotlessly clean, we had everything we needed and more, the only exception being a hairdryer. The furnishings were a high standard and I had seven very good night's sleep. Lovely eateries nearby, of which we used several.

Second Stay
This is a lovely cottage in a brilliant location. It is really close to the town with its many restaurants, pubs and shops. It is a lovely place to stay for a couple and has wonderful views of the sea. The walks along the promenade filled many a happy hour. As a bonus, we were blessed with fantastic sunny weather, which made this even more special

Relaxing break
*Large cottage for two people
*Bed extremely comfortable
*Good kitchen facilities
*Beautiful bathroom
*Excellent location - but the location is a busy seaside town

Scrimshaw cottage
The cottage was in an ideal location, close to the beach and local amenities. Every window had a sea view which was spectacular. Scrimshaw was a lovely cottage full of character and charm. There was a bit of noise from the car park and pub but that was to be expected. A over head shower would of been a nice touch in the bathroom. The courtyard outside was ideal to sit and enjoy the sun and sea air.

Our lovely short break
Restful within sight and sound of the sea.A calm and relaxing little cottage which we hope to visit again at the end of August.

excellent location for stunning walks by the sea!
The cottage is in the most amazing location, a stones throw from the sea. bed too soft ! stairs very steep with a low ceiling that my partner kept hitting his head on! great views from the bedroom, well stocked kitchen although could do with an extra frying pan and possibly a washing machine if you are there for more than a week! parking should be part of the deal too, quite a pain looking for free parking as the car park by the cottage very expensive!

Perfect for an agile couple.
We have no reservations at all about the location, the standards of comfort and the service we received.
Just mind those stairs. The treads are narrower than most and we quickly discovered that on descent it felt safe to take a firm hold on the top of the rail and do the first three steps sideways.
There's a lot to do and see in and around Sheringham.
Eating out is pricy, but we found the Thai restaurant, a couple of minutes from the cottage, to be absolutely excellent.
A word about parking: the little car park next to the cottage has a nightmare machine that doesn't take coins, won't work with alternative methods suggested, and seems to exist to wind everyone up. (We sat and watched a flow of potential parkers each go through a routine that ended in them driving away or shrugging and walking off.) There are free spaces at the top of the cliff five minutes walk to the west.

Lovely week at Scrimshaw Cottage
My wife and I - both retired - spent a really fantastic week at Scrimshaw Cottage, our first holiday since lockdown.
I very much hope this review provides some useful insights into what to expect in having such a lovely time.
We'd seen the photos of the cottage on the Keys site and are delighted to report that it was as gorgeous as we'd hoped from those pictures, whilst the wine and milk was an added bonus: many thanks!!
We also knew from the pics that there wasn't a shower: the bath was lovely, but we felt a shower would have made the cottage idyllic for a couple.
We have already been recommending Scrimshaw to our friends!!!
As for the location, it is equally idyllic for anyone like us wanting both a sea view, and to be part of a bustling town.
Despite some blustery weather we were out and about every day. This included a bus to and lunch in Cromer then a walk back along the beach (NB at low tide), with a detour at West Runton so as to go along the cliffs and up to the lovely views of The Beeston Bump. Another day we got the train to Norwich and explored the Cathedral and quaint backstreets, as well as the town and lanes - plenty to do!! We also spent a long morning on a particularly windy and at times rainy day on the eastern coast, and witnessed the jaw-dropping impact of nature on the coastline around Happisburgh. Also very memorable was a day's boat hire on the Norfolk Broads from Wroxham:- both relaxing and (navigating the boat) exciting! (Note to self: find out how to reverse in a straight line!!!)
Our favourite trips, though, were westwards: Cley, Blakeney, Wells particularly, and Burnham: some lovely walks, and delighful drives through charming villages. We ventured as far as Hunstanton (to see The Wash) ...but were less impressed with this venue.
Sheringham itself we found to be a lovely town: always busy with tourists during the day, with some charming 'traditional' seaside shops, and the steam railway: just a shame Covid means only one party per carriage - at a cost of £35 - which was a bit too much for us, and, it appeared, to others too. Also wished we could have got a platform ticket so as to see the train close-up, but that didn't appear to be an option on offer.
With 4 pubs within 50 yards, and another just up the High Street, what was there not to like?!! We would also heartily recommend both the Thai and Nepalese restaurants in the town.
We'd researched parking before we arrived, and bought a 7-day ticket from the station car park on our way in to collect the keys. A previous call to North Norfolk District Council confirmed that this ticket could be used in any NNDC car park. However they advised that long-stay parking (>3 hours) could only be done in long-stay car parks, so whilst wardens were only on duty from 8am to 6pm, if we parked overnight in a short-stay park (incl 'Chequers' outside the cottage) we should look to have moved away by before 11am.
They also pointed out that we would still have to pay if we parked in non-NNDC car parks.
We could see no sign to say that Chequers was only short-term parking, but in the absence of seeing a warden to ask, we only parked overnight outside the cottage when we knew we'd be off in the car by 11am. We found East Cliff Long-Stay to be easy to park in, with a lovely short stroll along the front to our cottage.
[If anyone knows that a 7-day ticket is allowable for long stays at Chequers, please add a note to this effect!]
If you are a couple looking to holiday in North Norfolk, you need look no further than Sheringham Cottage: a delightful cottage in a delightful location.
