About this house rental
Oranjehuis can be separated into two, self contained, luxury apartments.
Shortlisted in the Design category for the 2018 HomeAway Holiday Rental Awards - architect designed and inspired by modernist Dutch aesthetics - Oranjehuis is a sophisticated and luxurious beach house located at Aldinga Beach, just 10 meters from a secluded beach and overlooking the Aldinga Reef Aquatic Reserve.
Oranjehuis is a perfect synthesis of minimalist sensibility and contemporary design featuring open flowing spaces, extensive use of glass, natural materials and Australian coastal light.
De Huis (The House):
De Huis’ luxury amenities include under-floor heating, Travertine marble flooring, reverse cycle air-conditioning and high spec kitchen and bathrooms. These are complemented by a large sweeping balcony which takes in spectacular ocean and coastal views. High ceilings and floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors circulate the air and natural light throughout the space.
Dutch modernism extends to the interior design of the house – the aesthetic is sophisticated, yet relaxed and comfortable. The simplicity of the interior colours and architectural lines ensure a neutral backdrop to the spectacular seascape captured in every window and against which the collection of Australian, Dutch and American original art, and Dutch designer furniture and lighting, can be fully enjoyed.
De Appartment (The Apartment):
The beautiful lower level of OranjeHuis, De Appartment, echoes the modernist design and aesthetics of the upper level, and can be rented separately.
Contemporary and sophisticated, De Appartment features luxury amenities that include under-floor heating, Travertine marble flooring, reverse cycle air-conditioning, high spec kitchen and bathrooms. The kitchen and living areas open out to a sweeping lawn and extensive ocean and coastal views.
De Appartment’s floor-to-ceiling glass doors circulate the sea air and natural light throughout the space, which features contemporary Australian and American modernist artworks, complemented by Dutch and Scandinavian designer furniture and lighting.
DE PRECINCT (The Precinct)
Wild cliff scenery and a long, pristine stretch of sand are the hallmarks of Aldinga Beach. This fabulous expanse of coast boasts a collection of cafes, restaurants, and a cycling and walking trail stretching from Sellicks Beach to Maslin Beach.
The beach is particularly wide and is one of the few in the state that allow vehicles, with a beach pass, to be driven onto certain sections of sand. Fishing, surfing and swimming are other popular pursuits at Aldinga Beach, which is patrolled by surf lifesavers between November and March. Oranjehuis beach house also over looks the Aldinga Reef Aquatic Reserve and the aspect of the house faces north west not looking directly into the sun.
Take a walk along the boardwalk to the lookout where you will see the Aldinga Scrub Conservation Park or go morning horse riding along the beach with experienced riders. Aldinga Beach is an area of significant importance to the local Kaurna people, especially the Washpool, a wetland on the coastal strip south of the Aldinga Scrub Conservation Park, which is where the Indigenous people pegged out animal hides to dry and dug for fresh water. There is much evidence of well-trodden Indigenous walking paths throughout this area.
Established in 1857, Aldinga has a distinct history, launched by a farming boom in the 1850s and followed by rapid growth, soon gaining a church, hotel, blacksmith, post office and bank. The town is epitomised today by these historic buildings that were constructed using local paddock limestone rock.
A quick turn off Main South Road will take you into the heart of the old township where you’ll find bakeries, cafes, restaurants and a hotel bottle shop that stocks local and regional wines.
Aldinga is a fantastic location to access a huge range of experiences in the Fleurieu Peninsula. Whether it be sampling the amazing food and wine of the region, exploring the beaches, or discovering your adventurous side, The Fleurieu never ceases to impress. Situated only a short drive to Cape Jarvis and the ferry to Kangaroo Island is yet another reason to stop off and enjoy this unique landscape.
SANTOS TOUR DOWN UNDER
International bike racing event - Santos Tour Down Under - is a prime attraction in Aldinga on the Australia Day weeekend with the race going directly past Oranjehuis (3 times!).
WINE REGION
With famous wine region McLaren Vale literally on your door stop, why not stop off and sample some of Australia's most famous wines and cellar doors, including Coriole, D’Arenberg Estate, Penny’s Hill, Primo Estate, Alpha Box and Dice, Hugh Hamilton Wines, Hardy's Tintara and Battle of Bosworth.
LOCAL TRAILS
Walking trails exist between Aldinga and Sellicks beach – or Aldinga and Maslin Beach. The trails are bike friendly and offer breathtaking views of the unique limestone coastline. Why not stop off at The Victory Hotel at Sellicks Beach for a drink or bite to eat before your return?
ADVENTURE
A huge range of adventure activities are easily accessible from Oranjehuis. Snorkelling, abseiling, kayaking, diving, hot air ballooning, paint balling, horse riding, scenic flights and hang-gliding are just to name a few!
FOOD FOR THOUGHT
If you are an avid foodie, or someone who just enjoys spoiling themselves occasionally, then the food on offer in the precinct is a huge talking point. Artisan bakeries, fine dining restaurants, winery restauraunts, cafes and specialty shops are abundant. Some of our more relaxed favourites include The Salopian Inn at McLaren Vale, Homegrain Bakery and Maxwell's Organic at Aldinga, La Terre Restaurant, Golden Fleece Cafe and Russell's Pizza in Willunga.
SOMETHING SPECIAL
If you are after something a bit more special for your evening out, we suggest the Star of Greece on the waterfront at Port Willunga, Penny’s Hill Restaraunt or d’Arys Verandah. Coriole also provides a gorgeous spot for lunch or dinner, or try McLaren Vale local hot spot, The Elbow Room.

Beautiful beach house by the sea, perfect for a family.

Beautiful property, great location & owners greeted us with wine chocolate & some handy essentials.

Property was booked for a group of 9 adults, and suited us well. The house is well equipped and comfortable- the living areas are well suited to a larger group.
We were reliant on cars more than we hoped, due to distance from amenities and availability of other transport options. We were unable to find any decent restaurants/cafes within easy walking distance, but the nearest supermarket is approx 15 minute walk.

We had our annual sibling weekend at Oranjehuis and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. From Melinda’s beautiful home to her hospitality and recommendations A very special time was experienced at this great location. A beautiful part of our amazing country!!!

Six buddies from NSW had a wonderful time marvelling at the wonders of McLaren Vale with Aldinga Beach as our base for the first our our really significant birthdays. These three nights, followed by two days at Adelaide Writers Festival, sets a high bar for the rest of us!
Oranjehuis offers sunrises and sunsets across the road, with well equipped spaces, in a modern home, very different (and well priced) from other offerings in the district or other Adelaide wine regions.
Thank you for your responsiveness and for offering us the chance to experience this wonderful part of South Australia.

We enjoyed a relaxing family (3 couples and three children) get-together at Oranjehous. We had plenty of room for all, great views over the beach, nice big balcony, easy access to beach walks over the road.
Plenty of equipment and nice paths for riding bikes etc. The owner was keen for us to enjoy our time and provided a lot of helpful information.

This is the wow property that you wish you could call home.
Positioned absolute beach front each room fully respects and takes advantage of the show stopping view and surroundings.
The property is spacious and fitted with exceptional fittings and furniture. You cant help but admire the thought and love that has gone into each and every room. Stunning art adorns the walls - you will be taking notes when it comes to furnishing your own beachside abode! The kitchen is extremely well equipped and of very high standards.
Melinda's communication and information pre-arrival is exceptional. We took full advantage of all the ammenities and enjoyed family games of soccer on the lawn in the morning and table tennis tournaments at night!
There is so much to do in this beautiful area - incredible beaches, fresh food markets, amazing restaurants, walks and world class wineries/cellar doors right at your doorstop. The only thing left for us to do when we got home was check our diaries to book our next stay at Oranjehuis.
Thank you Melinda for sharing your piece of paradise with us.
