About this house rental
On the very edge of the Garden District with its storied streets and mysterious mansions there is one 1840's grey lady that is both wonderful and Odd above all others. Hidden in plain sight but long forgotten, the manse and its secret gardens loom behind the tall mossy walls. Passing through the the locked iron doors you are greeted to a luxurious hideaway unique to anything outside of the French Quarter.
Once inside the gates, you enter an enormous garden terrace that overlooks the main yard with lots of places to sit and relax as well as an antique outdoor dining table. Here you will find a lovely pool surrounded by old lavender stones with a fountain spouting from the creeping fig covered walls.
Two large antique French doors on the terrace open to the charming Living Room and Dining Room with very high ceilings and terra-cotta floors and a working fireplace. These rooms are decorated with European antiques and also modern sofas for comfort. Passing through an arched door there is a generous kitchen with tall wooden beamed ceilings, a 14' long stone topped island and painted exposed brick walls. The tall French doors in the kitchen provide beautiful light and great access to the pool just outside. The Kitchen is well equipped with a La Cornue range, Subzero refrigerator, large apron sink and Waterworks faucets. There is also a powder room off the kitchen.
Still on the ground floor passing through the Kitchen doorway you enter a lovely bar area which can be closed off and there is an additional truly charming Bedroom on the site of the original Stable at the Lodge. This Downstairs Bedroom also has a sofa and its own private courtyard and entrance...perfect for someone who wants a bit more privacy or a nanny etc.
Upstairs in the main house are the rest of the bedrooms including a generously sized Master Suite with lots of closets and an iron balcony. In the Master Suite the ceilings are 17' tall with multiple 10' windows and wooden shutters for privacy. All of the floors upstairs are antique hardwood. There is a lovely working (gas) fireplace for cooler nights as well. It is furnished as the rest of the house with many details and antiques as well as some smart modern touches. The Master Bathroom is en-suite Art Deco with a large marble soaking tub and separate shower.
The house is unusual in that two of the bedrooms operate as their own private suite area which can really be wonderful when one wants to have privacy. Downstairs is very open and both major rooms open on to the large terrace and create a spectacular openness onto the gardens which, when the weather is good, is really wonderful. In all, you have a true hidden garden hideaway for French alfresco living!

As my grandson said, "5 star experience; this is the best house we ever stayed in!" We had a wonderful time; the location was perfect. The streetcar was easily walkable and restaurants and shopping close by. We stayed 7nights & had 7people & a dog. We never felt crowded; every rm was decorated beautifully and we had room to spread out.
The courtyard was so beautiful and relaxing.Although it was July, the fans on the porch kept it very comfortable. The saltwater pool was a big hit. We had 2 cars with dedicated parking(amazing). William was a wonderful host. He would keep in touch by text and was very helpful. I was so sad to leave. My 6 yo granddaughter gave it a 5 star review and we all agree.

This is a beautiful, very conveniently-located home. It is well taken care of with some really cool features. The patio and pool area are fantastic! The listing pictures don’t do it justice. The owner is very hospitable, easy communication.
Just a couple notes…
1. One of the 4 bedrooms opens to the hallway upstairs with no door to fully separate it. This worked fine for our young kids but something to keep in mind depending on your travel group.
2. We did visit during the hottest time of the year (and it is an older home), but we had difficulty staying cool downstairs and in a couple of the bedrooms.
3. The living room furniture could use some updating, better seating options for the size of home and potential number of guests.
We would absolutely stay here again! Thank you for hosting us!

This place is incredible. It’s walking distance to wonderful options for food, but you’ll be hard pressed to leave the stunning and immaculate home and peaceful garden (with an awesome pool)! Give it no more thought and book it now while you still can.

Really beautiful house and garden. Pool was really nice. Perfect place for meeting up with a group of our friend couples. Host was nice and the neighborhood is amazing. Good restaurants steps away.

The home was just as described - beautifully furnished, clean, great location. We spent much our days walking through the garden district and tasting local foods, swimming in the wonderful pool.
But the best thing about the house was its owner…very available, knowledgeable, whose suggestions from restaurants to walks were greatly appreciated.
We will definitely be back!

This was our first time staying in the Garden District, but not our first time in NOLA. The owner of the house was very communicative and accommodating, even taking care of a minor house issue while we were there. Attention to detail throughout the house adds to its charm. The grounds and patio were immaculate. The pictures really can't capture the beauty of the home.
The location was really great in a walkable area right off Magazine St. with breakfast, lunch, dinner and cocktails all accessible within a very reasonable walking distance. There was parking for 3 cars which was perfect for us and a major coup for the garden district.
The house is well equipped with bedding, blankets, towels, and a very well stocked kitchen. Keurig and drip coffee maker was available and ample refrigerator and freezer space.
One of the bedrooms is downstairs with a sitting area and a private patio. All the rest are upstairs. The master is huge with super high, super cool ceilings, the library and an exquisite bathroom with a wonderful tub. Another of the bedrooms is at the end of the hall and shares a bathroom with the 4th bed. It should be noted, and perhaps it is and we missed it, that the 4th bed upstairs is not private. It does not have a wall separating it from the hallway. Great for kids, but not adults. Despite that, we would probably stay at this house again and again.

Such a wonderful location and fantastic property! We came down with friends and three kids for some Mardi Gras parades and we’re not disappointed. This historic property was a beautiful starting point for our adventure and the hosts were very friendly and accommodating. Can’t wait for our next visit!

Thank you William & Jules for hosting our group for Mardi Gras! The Ancient Odd Fellows House is distinctively New Orleans overflowing with its share of Garden District Charm. The first few days provided beautiful weather and while too chilly to swim, we were able to enjoy coffee in the serene outdoor space. The location allowed us to walk to the parade route, which was a big plus as well as stroll along Magazine Street. Check-in/Check-out was easy and there was more than enough space to enjoy a relaxing time among the revelry. Highly recommend Deanie’s around the corner as they did a great job catering meals. We took a lot of pleasure walking down to French Truck Coffee and snagging some cute Mardi Gras items from the local shops nearby. This is a special property which shines in a city filled with charming architecture.

My family and I had a wonderful last minute stay at Williams home in New Orleans! The house is incredibly special. They've done a wonderful job of maintaining original New Orlean's architecture while bringing in modern touches and cozy bedrooms! Would love to stay here again.

This is our second stay in this exceptional property. Not only is it elegant, but it's just steps from all the stores, restaurants and coffee shops of Magazine Street. Convenient to every point of New Orleans. We will be back!

We decided on a girls weekend to visit our cousin who is a resident at LSU. This is a lovely New Orleans home appointed with antiques and high end bathroom features, a great kitchen for gathering and a beautiful garden with salt water pool. Owner extremely helpful and flexible and knows his restaurants.

What a fabulous place for a family vacation! This was the perfect home for six adults and one 18 month old. The outdoor space is particularly lovely - a great porch, large yard and a swimming pool. When not sightseeing or eating delicious NOLA meals, we spent a lot of time outdoors. The home itself was perfect - three nice bedrooms each with their own bathroom. The neighborhood was wonderful with lots of nearby restaurants and shopping. We contacted the homeowner a couple of times and he was super responsive and very helpful. Great rental!

We rented this house for a weeklong stay for a birthday celebration. It was perfect for 5 of us. The location was terrific within walking distance of shops and restaurants on Magazine Street. The outdoor gardens and patios were fabulous. The owners were super helpful. Highly recommend.

I wish we could give 6 stars to this magical house. Great location, and the house is everything you could want in a New Orleans experience. If you stay here, please be kind to this gem! Thank you to our hosts to be some of the best and most accommodating that we have stayed with.

Great space, indoors and out. Lots of "wow factor" at this place. Secure parking was a nice feature. It was a little too cool for the pool, but we enjoyed sitting outside enjoying the weather while our dogs sniffed around the yard. Plenty of storage and plenty of space. Lots of natural light - so if you are a light sleeper bring an eye mask!

This property could not have been more perfect! We were in town for our sons wedding and our family had the perfect spot to relax and spend time with each other for a few days before the wedding. The decor is amazing! The outside courtyard and porch were beautiful and gave us the perfect setting for a fabulous New Orleans weekend! The owners were so kind and helpful with any questions we had! I can't wait to rent the house again when we return!

We celebrated milestone BD here. House and hosts were amazing - the pictures do not do it justice and our hosts were incredibly gracious and supportive. We are foodies and the kitchen is wonderful and more than capable for handling a catered dinner. The garden is exquisite and the perfect retreat from colder climates up north. We look forward to coming back very soon.

This home is so much more than what meets the eye. Having been a real estate broker in many cities ( NYC, San Francisco, D. C. Etc) I’ve seen my share of great properties. This one is special. I got inspired by the kitchen and courtyard for my current remodel at home! William was so friendly and always there for us. Location was terrific. We walked to restaurants and looked at all the beautiful homes on the way. We were there for my husband’s birthday and the house accommodated 3 adult couples very well. Each of us had our own space. I actually took a day just to sit in that backyard by the pool and read a book… it felt magical out there. The Master bedroom is just Grand. I would make a special trip to Nola just to go back to the Oddfellow again! Book it… you won’t regret it!

We loved our stay! The location is fantastic with some of New Orleans best restaurants, bars, and shops along Magazine street. The rooms are restored and updated to modern luxury standards and the upstairs master and bathroom are five Diamond quality. We loved the home layout, the gardens and the well appointed kitchen. I can’t image there’s a better replace to stay in NOLA at anything close to the moderately priced nightly rate. Don’t miss stopping in at District Donuts across the street for a casual breakfast, lunch and amazing donuts.

Had an amazing time. Even though it was freezing outside, the house was always comfortable and the fireplace downstairs was so nice to have. Peaceful neighborhood within walking distance to lots of great shops and eateries. Wonderful communication with property owner made our stay even better than we expected. Would love to return!

The pictures don’t do the house justice. It’s a beautiful home with an amazing old style you feel like you just walked into a different era. It was spectacular to stay there during Halloween. and it was in a great location where it wasn’t too far from all the fun.

Only suggestion would be to have an electric water kettle.

We stayed at this magnificent property for our wedding. It exceeded expectations. Both bridal parties got ready in the house including hair and makeup. It was perfect for the morning of the wedding. I felt so special! Highly recommend for special occasions. Wonderful place to share with family and friends.

We were in Nola for my wife’s 60th. The house was wonderful and sets the mood for being in NO. It is appointed with period antiques and also modern amenities. The owner is very responsive and very helpful with details of the city. We can’t wait to return to the beautiful old lady on Phillip.

Wedding Week
We rented this lovely property for the week of my daughters wedding. What an absolutely amazing home! The grounds and pool were beautiful and the interior is so well done. A great example of NOLA charm in the peaceful and gracious Garden District. It’s just off Magazine St. and is close by good food, drinks and shopping. Perfect to have friends over to celebrate!
A definite re-do for our family. We loved it!

A Magical home
If you like new and perfect, keep looking.
If you love grandeur, quirkiness, and historical then book now. This home is magical. Every room has something special and even after a week we continued to find more details to delight.
The pool is saltwater and extremely refreshing.
The garden is an oasis.
The home has nooks and crannies for everyone to find privacy.
The kitchen is very well equipped. A full fridge in the kitchen. A full freezer in the pantry. A fridge/freezer combo in the back hall. Which was helpful because during grad weekend, we cooked dinners at the home. But many breakfasts and lunches were picked up around the corner at Molly’s Rise and Shine, Stein’s Deli, or District. (We did not use the BBQ, there is one but we did not feel like cleaning it)
The bedrooms all have private baths. The primary bedroom is huge. The back upstairs bedroom is well sized (although not sure that is it queen size bed, however there is an air mattress in the closet). The washer and drying is also located in this room.
The downstairs bedroom has a small living space. Everyone raved about this shower.
The dining room table expands and we had 12 one night. The living room seated several comfortably to watch the warriors games.
But for me, the prize jewel is the porch. I could sit there day and night (until the mosquitos come out about 6pm). It was our favorite place for breakfast, lunch, and early cocktails.
I cannot recommend this house strongly enough for those that prefer aged grandeur (and all the imperfections that comes with) over new or modern.
