About this chalet rental
Looking for a secluded retreat in rural Montana to sit out the Summer. Ask us about special long term rates.
Hi Speed Fibre Internet
Newly fitted out - a partner property to CASA MOONLIGHT (VRBO Listing 374629) and CASA FARELLONES Ski Chalet in the Andes (VRBO Listing #95623)
Luxurious ski out rental home apartment and ski lodge in Big Sky. Full home comforts in a relaxed and spacious ski chalet set in the Rocky Mountains, just one hour drive from Bozeman, Montana.
Located on a warm southern facing slope on the lower slopes of the Big Sky ski area, with panoramic views on three sides, Casa Big Sky is three minutes on skis (on groomed ski trail passing right through our property) from the White Otter lift which accesses the Big Sky base area and the mountain beyond. You can ski back to just below Casa Big Sky (and walk the final 250 yards on the road) from both Big Sky and Moonlight basin ski areas - or take the Cascade lift and then approach the home directly from behind.
Skiing and boarding are the main winter activities. There is ample lift serviced terrain in the 2 resorts, but if you feel the need to venture further, various back country options are available.
Summer activities in Big Sky fall into two main categories. Those organised by the resort, including Lone Peak Expeditions, Adventure Zip-line Tours, Climbing Walls etc and those to be found in the greater South West Montana area including Fishing and Rafting on the Gallatin, Hiking, Mountain Biking, Golf and of course all that Yellowstone Park ( nearest boundary - half an hour away) and West Yellowstone (just over an hour away) have to offer.
Casa Big Sky is a recently built two story private chalet with total built area of approximately 4,000 square feet set in the Cascade subdivision of the Mountain Village of Big Sky , commanding panoramic and unobstructed views of Lone Peak and the Big Sky and Moonlight Basin Ski Area.
The owners, who divide their time between Chile, Thailand and Montana, use the upper floor primarily during the ski season. The lower floor, which can be closed off from the main house as a self contained apartment, is available for rent at most times of the year.
Getting around the mountains (winter)
There are two primary ski areas in the immediate vicinity of Casa Big Sky (Big Sky and Moonlight Basin - now combined into one super resort - the largest in the USA). Connected to Big Sky, there is also a third ski resort, the Yellowstone Club - but this is a private facility and access there is by invitation only.
Big Sky ski area - can be directly accessed from Casa Big Sky. Put your skis on at the front door, take a diagonal traverse across the garden, and pick up on the groomed trail that runs right through the property and will take you down to the Cascade and While Otter ski lifts (about 3 minutes on skis). You can ride this lift in the morning without a ticket if you tell the lifty that you are heading to the ticket office at Big Sky. White Otter takes you across the back of the resort area and drops you just above the Big Sky base area - where the main lifts such as Swift Bear, Ram Charger and Explorer take you up to the Lone Peak and Andesite ski areas.
The other lift close by the house, Cascade is really only a real estate access lift - that you may chose to use when you return to Casa Big Sky, if you want to avoid the three minute walk on the more direct access.
You can return directly to Casa Big Sky from the top of Swift Bear, anywhere on Lone Peak or Challenger - or if you have crossed over to Moonlight, from the top of Six Shooter or Iron Horse.
There are several options on the route home, the two quickest end up at the Rising Bull Trail down to Rising Bull, which you will reach about 250 meters from Casa Big Sky. From there you will have to leave the groomed trail and walk (some do it with skis) the short distance up to the house.
A longer route which involves taking one more lift (Cascade) allows you to approach the home from behind on the ski trail that leads right though our property without the need to walk.
You will find detailed descriptions of these routes in the house - and I would encourage you to discuss the options directly with me when you are here.
If you are a complete ski novice, or are at a very low level of fitness, you might find the relatively gently ski trails (not ski pistes) that access Casa Big Sky more than you are comfortable with. If this proves the case, I recommend taking a three minute drive to the Moonlight Lodge or the deserted Pony Express lift car park (ten steps from car to lift) and starting your day there.
Moonlight Basin - interconnects with Big Sky - and can also be accessed by a three minute drive - either up to the main Moonlight Lodge or from the Madison Lodge (there is a much larger parking area here) - just over the shoulder of the mountain.

Ski access not quite as good as right near major lifts, but not bad. This is not like staying at 5 star resort, but it's comfortable and the hosts are great. If there is anything I could niggle about, it's that the bar stools at the counter are very low for anyone not over 6' tall.

Nice alternative to a hotel
The property was very nice, the kitchen was well stocked, and the hot tub was excellent. Our kid loved the bunk beds. The construction nearby made things slightly less serene during weekday work hours. Wi-Fi was spotty during some thunderstorms; but otherwise fine.

We Loved Casa Big Sky
We took our young adult kids with us to Big Sky and had the best time! The rental was wonderful. We loved the jacuzzi. The location was lovely with a view of Lone Peak. We saw deer and chipmunks on the property, and there were wildflowers everywhere. The kitchen was small and arranged for very tall people, but very functional for short stay, and it had all the kitchenware we needed. Beds were comfortable and bathrooms were nice. Very clean. We would recommend it highly!!

This place is for you. Quiet, clean and simply a great place for R&R. 1 hour from West Yellowstone, which if you get up early, and you should anyway, is a nice morning drive. If you’re coming to ski you’ll avoid crowed parking lots and will have a great view of skiers across the way from either the patio or hot tub.

Week Getaway
This property is even nicer in real life than on the pictures. The views are absolutely amazing and everything was very neat and organized. William is an excellent host with great attention to detail. Will definitely be visiting again!

Casa Big Sky - A Little Oasis On A Huge Mountain
Couldn't of been happier with our stay at Casa Big Sky. The size, layout and amenities were all well suited for our family of four. The hot tub was always an enjoyable end to a day full of skiing.

William was great. He took time explaining how to ski out and get back in. Everything worked well and the apartment was well equipped. Nice place for our family.

Great Place to stay for ski vacation
Family of 4 stayed here for a week and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The highlights are the hot tub just steps outside and the garage parking - no scraping windows or warming up the car to go out. Skiing to the lift was fairly easy and only required a little poling. Getting home requires walking about 300 yards so consider that if your kids are really young. Our 11 year old had no problem with the walk.

Good location, needs some maintenance
We enjoyed staying at the property on the whole. The condo is clean and comfortable, and the location is great.
However, there are a few things that just didn't quite work:
1) The refrigerator was making obnoxious clicking noises at random times, loud enough to wake us up at night and to hear over the TV during the day. We tried turning off the ice maker, but that didn't help.
2) The hot tub's heating element turns off when the jets are on causing the tub to cool rapidly. It took us a few days to figure this one out. Even with the jets off the heating element sometimes randomly turns off. The workaround there is to power-cycle the tub by flipping the fuse off and on in the fuse box. By the time you've noticed, you've already lost a few degrees of heat, which is the difference between a hot tub and a warm tub.
3) The fireplace starts making a loud jet-like noise after being on for about an hour. Probably the fan, but we didn't care enough to investigate. Just stopped using the fireplace after day 2.
4) The master bed is on a metal frame which makes loud creaking noises when you move around.
On the whole I'd recommend this place at the price we paid (early season) if you don't plan on using the hot tub too much and aren't concerned with noises. At peak season pricing, I'd expect these things fixed.

First snow of the season.
It snowed the day before we arrived and a little the day after. That really made the scene beautiful. Slopes weren't open but sure looked nice. Place was perfect.

Awesome Location and Amazing Views!
William's Casa Big Sky was a great place, super clean, and had lots of amenities for our week long stay. We preferred to cook our meals, everything we needed was in the kitchen, even a compact dishwasher. It was great to have two bathrooms, both with big tiled showers, and the washer/dryer was convenient to have. We loved the hot tub outside the front door, and a grill to cook our brats. We were impressed with the heat coming under the floors, making the tile nice and warm. Having a garage for our car was a real plus. We were even greeted by a buck and a deer grazing near the front porch when we returned one evening!!!

Relaxing WFH & hiking stay in late summer
We enjoyed our stay alone in the property and were only visited by a bear intent of licking the grill in and out one night under our window- good anecdote and plenty of videos for our kids! -(I suggest having always bear spray handy, and always while hiking) and by deer in the evenings. Checking in and out was a breeze and the housekeeper was always responsive, instructions about everything very clear. The house was as described and was perfect for us two (the second bedroom is more suited for little kids or preteens, a bit dark and small) also a bit dark inside but being summer, we were outside as much as possible, and dining was especially beautiful watching the Lone Montain Peak at sunset. The hot tub is pristine and good for sore muscles after long hikes. Wifi worked well for our needs (did not use TV)
Coming down from Glacer Natl Park, initially we had planned to be there mostly as base camp for visiting Yellowstone. But we went there less as the trip is longer than we thought, also considering traffic and distances to attractions inside the park. And because we discovered so many nice hiking possibilities in Big Sky! proud to have climbed the Lone Peak up and down (since tram was not operating) from the base of the village, harder than we imagined! Also enjoyed the classic Beehive Basin trail and a hike to the top of the Cinnamon Mountain close by. The new supermarket is very well stocked, and we liked the Beehive Basin brewery where you could have your beers outside and "social distance" as much as you wanted. This lodging felt special and was a very good find.

Perfect Location Summer (and I am sure winter too)
My sister and our two best friends stayed here for an extended weekend ladies-getaway. The property was perfect. I hope that I can return for a winter ski trip sometime. If you are looking for a Big Sky location, hot tub, and a clean well stocked (pans, plates, etc) kitchen, this is your place. I highly recommend it.

Excellent apartment in the midst of Big Sky
We stayed at William’s unit for a week in July 2020. The apartment itself is as described: it’s an upscale rental with two outstanding bathrooms and bedrooms and if the kitchen is somewhat small, it has all needed appliances from top brands. The jacuzzi and the view from the terrace is amazing, we had dinners there with visitors like deers and rabbits. William and his wife are lovely and answered our questions promptly. We did a lot of hiking in the area, from 3,5 to 9 hours, the area is gorgeous. Yellowstone is an hour away , the valley to get there is beautiful. We also rode horses for 3 hours, it was the cherry on the cake. We can only dream of returning in this apartment for skiing as the chalet has quick access to slopes, no need to take the car!

We had easy access to the mountain village (we chose to Drive), the house was very well equipped and the size was perfect for our family of four! I highly recommend it. Our host William was very nice and professional and made sure we got all our requests answered.

I attended a ski event at Big sky and stayed at Casa Big sky. It was perfect for what me and my buddy needed. It would have held another guy or our wives perfectly. We did not take advantage of the ski in ski out because we needed to meet our group at the base before the lifts open, but I could see it was possible to do. Hot tub was the highlight of the property. William was a great communicator.

Good location
Came to Big Sky for work and to ski! And we were not disappointed. The location of the rental was close to everything at Big Sky. Directions were accurate and rental info was well organized. It was well furnished with everything you need to relax and unwind. We had three adults in our party and the rental was comfortable and accommodating. We did do some laundry in the combo washer/dryer unit and appreciated the drying racks as the process takes a little longer and items come out damp. A Heated garage fits a midsize SUV or smaller and was icing on the cake in the snowy weather. There was a larger amount of snowfall which made the ski in/out almost impossible, but the drive to the hill was just minutes away and convenient. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and look forward to next year! Thank you Casa Big Sky!

Ski trip
The property (and the skiing) far exceeded our expectations. Perfect location close to the main village but just far enough way to have your own private getaway. The garage and hot tub were the heroes of our 5 day ski trip - couldn’t have been happier. Thanks for sharing your place with us, William.

Great place!
Such a great cute place!! We are a family of four and we were very comfortable!!! I cook almost every night when we are on a ski trip and the kitchen was great.
We did not use the ski in/ski out option, we drove to the Madison base and that was so easy and empty!!
Thank you for a great stay! See you next time!

Apt review in big sky
The apartment is cozy and in a nice location. I was very glad that no one was occupying the main house above us the week I was there. The only negative is the washer/dryer all-in-one unit. The wash and dry cycle takes 3.5 hours and everything comes out very damp😐. When it’s raining outside, your only choice is to hang your clothes in a rather small living space.

Well equipped, cosy basement apartment in a stunning location, 6 miles outside Big Sky.
Perfect for a family of 4, or 5 and close to Yellowstone Park, hiking, mountain-biking and white water rafting.
Fabulous food in Big Sky. Recommend The Rocks, By Word of Mouth, Horn and Cantle and Toast for lunch.

Week of 4th of July in Big Sky
Wonderful place to unwind after summer activities. Great place to hang out if there are people in your group who want to stay in. This lower level apartment would be best suited to a family of 4 or 5 (2 adults and 2/3 children)

Awesome property
We loved our stay at Casa Big Sky! We stayed in the downstairs apartment which was very well appointed with 2 bedrooms, 2 large baths, a kitchen and living/dining area. We found it easy and convenient to ski in/ski out, however if you are a beginner skier, you may have some difficulty with some flat areas. Nevertheless, it is a very short drive to the lift. Highly recommend this lovely property.
